Nostalgic Saturday & Happy Birthday Bus Man!

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to wish my bus man a.k.a Matthew a very happy 41st birthday!

Both Matthew, and I were born in 1967, the summer of love, and Canada's 100th birthday. I am the older by a few months during, which time between are birthdays he call me a cougar...I think of myself more a puma, but I digress.....:p

Birthdays growing up in our Brady Bunch-like neighbourhood during the 70's were always such grand affairs. My parents would set up a huge table, and folding chair in our family rec room, and we would chow down on pizza or hot-dogs, with cake, and ice cream.

We always had party games from the standard pin the tail on the donkey to twister, and my parents would hand out prizes. One year my Mom decided on a Mexican theme, and the highlight was a piñata that took multiple bashings from a baton to break.

My Dad would always take a ton of photos, many that I still have to go through, and sort.

The presents were always very cool, but to be honest I forget a lot of what those were with the exception of my beloved Nancy Drew books. One thing I do remember is how much fun it was to help my mother put together loot bags for all the kids we had invited.

The 70's were good for birthday parties! At least they were in my family. I was a very lucky kid! :D

Cheers!
Sue

Happy Birthday Mathew!

Ah, Sue you gave me flashbacks then...except Pizza was unheard of in Australia in the 70's, well in my family anyway..lol

I absolutely love Nancy Drew. I collected them and my sister had Trixie Belden.. hours were spent reading them, then we would have to wait for the next one to come... Life seemed so much simpler then...

You had awesome parties, I cant remember celebrating them in my family although I think we must of...

Great memories and thanks for joining in... Abz

Hi Sue (and Happy Birthday to Matthew}

Remember childhood birthdays as usually with the next door neighbours (3/4 mile away)as guests -there eldest daughter and my sister were born a couple of hours apart, and there twin son and daughter are only a few months younger than me - + usually some of the closer rellies as well
Books were usually a part of the presents - TV was just starting to become available - and the odd Tonka toy etc, and grew up on a diet of Enid Blyton, R L Stevenson, Daniel Defoe etc.

What a beautiful post. Birthday parties as a child were always fun - even if it wasn't your birthday lol

And to add layers onto the memories you in Nancy Drew. I was a Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Trixie Belden nut when I was growing up ... well still am actually.

Great to meet you :-)

Pearl
