H.O.T Tales Of The Awful Place

TAILS - Tell about your job or one you've had

Over the past year, and one half I have been for the most part a stay-at-home Mom again as far as full-time employment goes. I also still do a lot of volunteer work via PSICAN, which I am a co-founder. I do some consulting work with the media (usually around Halloween) and I write up sponsored postings on occasion to supplement our household income, the latter being on occasion quite lucrative and equivalent to a part-time job with the added benefit of being at home in my PJ's. I am also working on one home-based business idea I hope to get off the ground.

I hate the rat race. I left my last full-time job, which I called the "awful place" under doctor's orders due to stress related health issues that were a result of my job, and the incredible demands put on me because of it. I went from low-normal blood pressure to high in under one year! After 5 years my health was ruined, and I was no farther ahead in my career than when I had started. Aside from missing some of my work mates, leaving has been very positive for me.

I do genuinely enjoy working hard, and will put in very long hours, but I now do it on my own terms, and thankfully have a very supportive, and loving partner who has allowed me to do this. :D

I have learned one thing about myself, and employment especially since being diagnosed with Graves disease, and that is that health is far more important than money. And I will gladly take a hit in the pocket book even if that means down sizing (we have) doing without luxuries (we on occasion do) if it means keeping my sanity, and my good health, which does tie in greatly with the well being, and happiness of my hubby, and my kids. :D

Happy H.O.T. day and thanks so much for stopping by :)

Toot Toot Beep Beep!

This week's Blog Talkers questions are:

Write about your car. What do you drive? Show us a picture of your car. What do you WISH you were driving? How long have you been driving your car? Do you like to drive overall? Are you a good driver? Are you a passive driver? Or are you rather aggressive? How has increasing gas prices affected your lifestyle? How has it affected your budget? How many miles do you drive on a given day?

I do not drive. I ride "The Rocket" Toronto's nickname for our public transport. Since we live in the heart of a major urban center there is no need for us to own a car, and in fact would be a very hefty expense in regards to parking, fuel etc if we did.

Now if we lived in suburbia or moved to the country it would be different, and in that case my primary dream vehicle would still be helping out my own bus man.

Life in the Urban Zoo

The Zoo Keeper

Coming to you live from the dreaded Didier-Darroch compound somewhere in the heart of the city of Toronto, Canada this is my blog about life in the Urban Zoo our "pet name" if you will for the compound. This blog will relate far too much information on life in the city in general, raising kids, frightful teenagers, and even more frightful adult children, ageing parents, our numerous pets, dogs, cats, birds, and other assorted critters. Welcome, and be forewarned we do not suffer fools gladly!
