Photo Hunters - share ANY photo

In keeping with the upcoming Mother's Day I thought I would share this photo with you.

Ida Schmidtke age 16 and her brother Theodore age 14. Circa 1928; Vohlynia, Ukraine.

Ida was my grandmother. Her brother Theo who she is pictured with above died during WWII. Their mother died in childbirth, and from a very young age Ida took over the Mother role for her little brother.

My Oma as we called her passed away at the age of 92 here in Toronto. Her dying words were to call out for Theo who had passed on so long ago, and across the world, but who she said she could see from her bed in the nursing facility that she called home in the last couple of years of her life. This is something that profoundly affected myself, and my Mom, Ida's daughter.

Happy Photo Hunting, and to all the Mom's out there I hope your Day is a wonderful one. :D

Cheers!

The Stone Angel

I am soooo looking forward to seeing this film, which is based on The Stone Angel, click the linky to check out my review of this outstanding piece of Canadian literature. My daughter sent me the link to the YouTube trailer knowing how happy this was going to make me. :D

Normally I do not hold out much hope that a film could be as good as the original book. Years of not so great film adaptations have jaded me I suppose, but this looks like it may just be a very good movie, and so far all of the advance reviews sound very positive.

I LOVE the Hagar character, and I think we as women can learn a lot from her. If you are not familiar than please do read the book, and consider seeing this film :)

Cheers!

Identity Theft Freaks Me Out

It is not exactly a new crime, but identity theft has become very easy for certain types of criminals to pull off in my opinion, and according to the tons news reports out there.

Perhaps I am a bit jaded because in the past year my Sister had her banking information ripped off at a chain store in her local mall. It was not the type of place you would figure using Interac would be a problem. Her bank account was cleaned out, and it it took a couple of weeks to straighten out before the financial institution reinstated her money.

Not only that, but two years previous a dear friend had her identity completely ripped off, but I promised her a long time ago that I would not blog the details as she is still very traumatised by what happened.

So yes, I would be lying if I did not say identity theft freaks me out, and I have become uber security conscious with my id, passwords, etc.

Have you heard of lifelock services before? Do you use this type of service? Lifelock is a company that provides clients with a peace of mind against identity theft, and I had the opportunity to check out their website a little earlier. The work by protecting all of your ID, and by being your advocate.

Definitely something to look into considering the stats are now over 9 million victims of identity theft in the USA each year!

Cheers!
