Thursday Thirteen #27 - Silly Laws

Thirteen Silly Laws

This coming week "the lawyer" aka our middle kid is going to check out a handful of different Universities to which she hopes to attend one during her academic pursuit of becoming a lawyer. In honour of her adventures in finding the Law School/s she wishes to apply to, I have decided to do a list of 13 silly laws. Enjoy! :D

1. In Canada, 1 out of every 5 songs on the radio must be sung by a Canadian

2. In Alberta a released convict is entitled to a gun and a horse to ride out of town on.

3. In British Columbia it is illegal to kill a Sasquatch or Bigfoot if one is ever found. (I agree with this one!)

4. In London, England, it is illegal to use a camera tripod, throw a stick for your dog or use an offensive powder like pepper on your jacket potato in any park.

5. In Australia it is illegal to smoke cannabis in any part of the country except for Canberra.

6. In Switzerland it is against the law for men to urinate standing up after 10pm which is the same time that it is illegal to flush the toilet!

7. In the Lebanon men are allowed to have sex with any other animal just as long as it is a female. If a man is caught having sex with a male animal then the penalty is death.

8. In Minnesota, USA, it is still against the law to hang male and female underwear together on the same washing line.

9. In England, in 1837, a law was passed that entitled a woman to bite off a man's nose if he kissed her against her will!

10. In Arizona, USA, it is illegal to hunt camels. (I had no idea they had a problem with this!)

11. In Alexandria, Minneapolis, USA, it is against the law for a man to make love to a woman with the smell of sardines on his breath.

12. North Carolina has a law to ban people from swearing in front of cadavers. The law also sets out guidelines transporting the recently deceased after one funeral firm was caught piling stiffs onto the back of a pick-up truck. It outlaws 'profanity, indecent or obscene language in the presence of a dead human body' making it technically illegal to say the 'f' word in front of a hearse!

13. In Birmingham, England, it is illegal for a man and a woman to have sex on church steps after sundown. (Again, something I had no idea they had a problem with). 88|

These gems all came from a site devoted to Stupid Laws, and believe me this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Happy TT!

Computers & Kids

I can tell ya, as a parent I have a lot of concerns in regards to computers, and kids. As great as a learning tool the internet can be for instance, it can also be a very dangerous, and scary place.

SafeEyes Parental Control provides content filtering software that gives complete parental control over what our children are seeing when they access the net. How cool is that! And definitely worth the peace of mind it provides! B)

Check it out by clicking on the linky I have added in above. SafeEyes has been featured in major media like the NY Times, and CNN as child safety on the net is a hot button topic for any family that has a child or children using a computer.

Today is a big day for the kiddo as it is her 12th birthday meaning one more year until she becomes a dreaded teenager - something she is very much looking forward to, and I kinda sorta nervous about. :)

My Christmas Wish List

I know, I know, we just finished up Halloween, and here I go bringing up the holidays with you guys. Lets face it though, before you know it they will be here, and it is a wise shopper who starts getting their lists together right now!

My own Christmas wish list is usually pretty easy for my family to cope with. I enjoy receiving books, DVDs etc. Their wish lists especially my Bus man's list are usually more tricky to deal with.

Ideally if I had one big gift I would love to get the family this year it would be a vacation that i booked using Travelocity deals that you can obtain through Coupon Chief.

I always use coupons when I make purchases if they are available. This is something I picked up from my Mom who is the queen of coupon clipping. :D

With Coupon Chief you can find coupon codes for all the popular online merchants, and 1,000s more. For instance I love books as I mentioned above. I can get Amazon coupon codes from Coupon Chief, and save on shipping costs, etc. It's really cool, and I definitely recommend you check it out while getting your holiday purchases together.
