It Is A Sad Day For Canadian Manufacturing

It is a sad end to the work week in my opinion as General Motors has reaffirmed their decision to close the Oshawa, Ontario truck plants. This is going to mean 2,600 job losses, and will severely hurt the local economy as all businesses from convenience stores to local eateries will suffer because of this.

While I do understand that consumers no longer wish gas guzzling vehicles (who the heck can afford them) GM could have committed to perhaps switching the plant to making fuel efficient, or smaller cars.

All I can say is shame on the Big 3 North American Auto-makers of late in particular GM.

Here is a news snippet from 680 News:

General Motors told its Canadian union, Friday, that it won't change its mind about closing the truck plant in Oshawa.

Canadian Auto Workers president Buzz Hargrove met with GM's chief executive Rick Wagoner in Detroit to plead the case for the plant, which employs 2,600 people.

Hargrove said he's disappointed and the union will now assess its options in the fight to stop the closure.

He said the union may now look at challenging GM through the Canadian Labour Board or may ask for arbitration.

The CAW said GM violated a two-week-old collective agreement by announcing the truck plant closure and workers are protesting at its Canadian headquarters.

GM has said it is simply responding to dropping demand for pickup trucks made at the plant.

A sad day indeed!

Speaking Of The Heat

.....I have got a really hot online source for custom t-shirts that my peeps might be interested in checking out!

The Blue Cotton online design studio makes creating fun, and eye catching designs to be printed, or embroidered on t-shirts a snap!

Not only is their website very easy to use, they also offer a lot of support with design ideas, and through their blog, and interactive message forums.

One of the feature benefits offered to customers through their website is that you can create different designs, and save them to your own personal account. How cool is that!

They also offer online order tracking, "rush orders" free shipping on all orders with standard delivery, (the continental US only). To top that off their pricing is very competitive, and they offer a money back guarantee to boot! B)

Happy Shopping!

It Is Going To Be A Heat Wave

I used to love hot summer temps when I was younger, in fact it could be like a sauna year round, and I would have been very happy. However, these days I am find myself more, and more heat intolerant...a sign of middle age I am sure.

I had planned to do some thrift shopping this coming weekend, and blog a bit about it here if I found any noteworthy treasure, but after hearing the weather forecast I think I'm going to literally try to chill at home.

40+ C with smog, and humidex warnings is not conducive to fun shopping trips. If only we had a swimming permitted beach nearby.....

Beautiful Grandfather Clocks

There is nothing more majestic in a home then the look, and sounds of a grandfather clock in my own humble opinion. My Mother owns a newer grandfather clock, which she treasures, and one day I too hope to have one like the stunning Howard Miller type grace my own foyer. Sigh.....

If you own a grandfather clock, are considering purchasing one, or just simply love these types of time keepers you will definitely want to surf on over to this grandfather clocks blog that offers readers a wealth of information on these beauties.

The blog is set-up very well in my opinion, and is updated very frequently. The articles are well written, and cover a number of topics that are of course related to grandfather clocks.

With Father's Day around the corner, and this being a shopping blog I was immediately drawn to the article entitled Grandfather Clocks: Gift Giving Across The Miles. This well written entry covers the topic of purchasing a grandfather clock online, and safely shipping it.

Overall I would rate this blog excellent! And have bookmarked it. :D

Happy Surfing!
