Custom Window Treatments Online

Nothing finishes off a room in my opinion like custom window treatments. If your drapery is shabby it really does show, no matter how well done the rest of the room may be. Drapes should compliment a room, and not overwhelm it in my opinion, and that can be very difficult to achieve unless you order custom treatments.

FabricWorkroom.com

Purchasing custom window treatments online is easy, and very affordable through FabricWorkroom.com. The screen capture above is taken from their main page, and I can tell you first hand it is easy to spend time on their site. Not only do they carry high quality fabrics, and gorgeous design options made perfect for your needs, but they are quite affordable too! Go have a look at the outstanding selection of over 1,200 fabrics to choose from for your custom valances.

Swags, and valances can also be ordered semi-custom, and honestly they look gorgeous!

Currently FabricWorkroom.com is having a 10% off Waverly fabric sale until the end of August. You can obtain further details and grab your coupon code from the main page of their website. All major credit cards accepted, and a big plus ++++ for me is that they also accept PayPal. :D

Time For A New Watch

Yes that is me. The photo you see was taken a couple of weeks ago when I was on a mini vacation at Sauble Beach.

Also in the pic is my trusty Iron Man watch and I say trusty because it has literally lasted me almost an entire decade! And I have put it through a lot of punishment over the years including swimming with it on, and dropping it from a 6ft loading dock onto cement...and it still works!

Much as I love this watch especially for its outstanding performance I do think it may just be time to enter the 21st century with a new one so to speak. I have been looking at these Nike sports watches and they seem to be quite attractive in my opinion, plus priced reasonably to boot! At least this is what I found through the ShopWiki watch buying guides, which I found to be helpful.

I am also looking at these Ladies Luminox Dive watches because as I have already mentioned above I do enjoy swimming on a very regular basis and do not want to worry about my watch.

Any suggestions on brands that you have found to be exceptional would be most welcome. :D

Hocks - A Review

Good Monday Morning My Peeps,

I am coming briefly out of hiatus (while I work on another project) to bring to you a very important review of an online supplier of colostomy and ostomy products.

Screen shot of Hocks.com

This is a subject that is actually near and dear to my heart as my former landlady had to have a colostomy done, and she was told it would be temporary. In fact she now has to deal with it for life. Colostomy and ostomy supplies certainly can be pricey, and it is really worth your time to comparison shop. With that in mind I thought it worth while to introduce you my peeps to Hocks.com which are providers of complete lines such as Convatec, and Hollister merchandise at big savings. $$$$

You can also save a lot of time, and money on your colostomy, and ostomy skin care needs by purchasing these through Hocks, which have built a solid reputation for safe internet shopping since 1997. You can check out their website by using one of these links, and you will see that their website is well designed, and very easy to use.

Bus Rage Ads To Be Removed

After the tragic death of a young man last week on a Greyhound bus the company has had to remove a series of ads that stated " There's A Reason You Have Never Heard Of Bus Rage." The timing of this campaign to this bizarre and very rare attack on a bus line is very unfortunate, and I believe they have made a very wise move by removing them.

For further reading on the decision to pull the ads and what is next for the bus line have a look at CBC's coverage here.

Some Information On Breast Form Boutique

Good morning my peeps!

I am still nursing a hangover from the beach. No not an alcohol induced one, but a sun, and surf one, and I do miss it. :|

Today, I would like to talk to you a bit about Breast Form Boutique that is a company that serves primarily the transvestite, transsexual, and cross dressing community. The company was first started in 1969, and has a good, solid almost forty year old reputation for providing quality products to their clientèle. These products include a full range of cross dressing wear such as enhancement forms, breast enhancers, silicone breasts, breast prosthesis, wigs and much more.

The website itself offers a very discreet main page. I found it overall to be very well designed, and easy to use. Breast Form Boutique also offers prompt, but discreet customer service via a telephone line or through the mail. They also guarantee very private shipping practices so you do not have to worry that other people will violate your privacy by checking out the packaging of your order.

Breast Form Boutique also offers its customers a safe, and secured online shopping experience. Its founder Michael Salem may be recognized as the person behind the best selling video How To Impersonate A Woman, and has been seen on many talk shows.

This is a completely USA operated business. :D

More Airport Woes.....

...And just when you thought it was safe to travel again...BAM! Apparently roving gangs of thieves have been plaguing Canadian airports, stealing people's wallets, luggage, etc. Usually these creeps use the distraction technique of getting a weary travellers attention focused on them whilst their buddy grabs the goods.

This has been a problem in Europe, and the USA as well, but apparently it is getting worse here.

To read more check out this article on 680 News website Theft concerns at Pearson airport which gives details on what has been happening around the country's airports.

Credit Card Fraud At The Airport

Credit card fraud is a growing problem everywhere, but I wanted to warn people coming through Pearson International Airport in the Greater Toronto area to be very wary of the "do it yourself" check-in kiosks.

Here is a snippet from 680 News that gives greater detail:

Stricter security may be needed for the "do it yourself" check-in kiosks at Pearson International Airport following reports of credit card fraud.

The investigation will focus on about 150 self check-in stations at Pearson, where passengers enter in information to identify themselves.

The Globe and Mail reported credit card companies have been noticing isolated fraud patterns, tracing back to the kiosks -- where passengers use passports and credit cards to check in.

While it's not known whether any information has been stolen, the financial industry is worried because 31-million passengers travel through Pearson a year.

Complete article here

I have never used one of these types of kiosks before. Have you? Will you be more wary of them now?

Newspaper Classifieds

Newspaper classified whether hard copy or electronic are a great way to find sales, and events in your local area.

Each Friday morning in our neck of the woods I check the classified for weekend sales. Last weekend I really scored when I found out our local theatre group was giving tours, and selling off costumes, and props from last years season.

I purchased a crystal decanter, and hand-made Norwegian plate, had the satisfaction of supporting my local arts, plus got to see backstage! How cool is that. :)

Get The Facts On Sudden Cardiac Arrest

My hubby's Dad passed on at the age of 50 because of cardiac arrest, and as he gets closer, and closer to that age himself I have to admit I worry.

Hubby is being looked after by our doctor who is very well aware of his family history, but I have still made it a point to learn everything I can about risk factors for sudden cardiac arrest and you should too, no matter what your own family health history. Just click on the link.

Did you know that over 900 people die each day from sudden cardiac arrest? That stat should get us all interested in taking better care of ourselves, and learning about our heart.

Inside Cardiac Arrest.com has tons of good heart health information via articles, and videos which are designed to be easy to understand. It has actually made me feel much better about the subject because I am now armed with good information that has been presented by St. Jude Medical, and may save my hubby's or even my own life one day. 50 Cent Sues Taco Bell Over 99 Cent Promo

Wow...now that headline is a mouthful...I dare ya to say that three times fast ;)

It is true though, Rapper 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson)is suing Taco Bell because the fast-food restaurant chain is using his name without permission in advertising that asks him to call himself either 79 Cent, 89 Cent, or finally 99 Cent.

A lawyer for the Rap artist said his client is seeking $4 million in damages.

Taco Bell Corp. spokesman Rob Poetsch issued a statement saying: "We made a good faith, charitable offer to 50 Cent to change his name to either 79, 89 or 99 Cent for one day by rapping his order at a Taco Bell, and we would have been very pleased to make the $10,000 donation to the charity of his choice."

Today, I've spent the morning checking out this new source for hybrid parts and accessories and it is jam-packed with info on fuel saving, and innovative new products.

There are several sub-sections to this website including information on electric only products for Prius that provide detailed info, and great bargain prices that will save you big bux $$$$.

They even carry a complete line of eco-friendly car cleaning products. Now how cool is that?!

The website is very well designed, and I found it easy to use. For those of us who are keenly interested in hybrid vehicles, and like to save money this site is perfect! Did I mention they accept PayPal along with all the other major credit cards????

Toy Car Collectibles Go On Auction

One of the world's biggest collections of matchbox toys is being auctioned in the English city of Middlesbrough. The toys - owned by an American collector - are expected to raise about $2m (£1m).

I would love to be able to take part in this auction. Matchbox have an ageless appeal, and I think they would be so much fun to collect. :D

Do you collect toys, bubblegum cards, figurines etc? Did you give away a collection as a kid that you now regret? I did have a vintage set of Dawn dolls that I gave away in the late 70's and they are worth quite a bit of money now. :(

Cross Border Shopping Canada - USA

I have some European friends who are routinely taking advantage of the weak US dollar by taking trips into the USA specifically for shopping. I'm not kidding....they are not just ordering US products online, but are taking shopping vacations so to speak.

Here in Canada, I also know quite a few people in the Golden Horseshoe area that will drive down to New York, or Michigan to go shopping.

Do you cross border shop? If you do are you really saving that much cash? Do you just like road tripping?

I wonder because with the crazy high gas prices are people really saving all that much......

The Godfrey Group

Lately my hubby has been involved with some trade shows in the medical equipment field. These types of conventions can be a lot of fun, and a great way for any company to garner some attention. Today I had the opportunity to check out the website of The Godfrey Group that are providers of everything you need to pull of a successful exhibit including tradeshow booth options, promo items, info centers, portable displays, and permanent display options that would be perfect for a retail environment.

Forewarning! Their website is extensive, and you will get caught up in checking out their great product lines, and services that can be completely customised to your specifications. This includes eco-friendly displays!

Have a look at what they are offering, and don't forget to order their free resource book! It has 120 pages of different ideas, and suggestions to make sure your display is an attention grabber. :)

Times Are Getting Tough In Canada

According to recently released stats retail sales in Canada rose a lackadaisical "0.4 per cent in May - off from the previous month's 0.6 per cent gain - coinciding with the steep climb in gasoline from just over $1 a litre at the beginning of the year to about $1.30 in May."

And the times do not seem to be getting better. I think it is more then just high gas, and oil prices that are taking sales down. In our grocery store bread, rice, and particularly potatoes have almost doubled in price.

Now more than ever it is time to be a wise consumer, comparison shop, and save when, and where we can.

I spent today getting to learn a lot more, and specifically learning more about the BuyMMOAccounts.com website, and what is involved in obtaining a wow account.

Firstly I found the BuyMMOAccounts.com website to be very well laid out, and easy for people to use. Here is a screen shot of the main page to give you a taste of what it looks like.

Screen shot of the BuyMMOAccounts.com website

As you can see from above they do offer a 100% guarantee on the accounts that they are selling. This way you are completely protected from obtaining an account that might be disabled or reclaimed.

They also offer something unique in regards to World of Warcraft sellers, and that feature is full telephone customer support, meaning you will have the opportunity to speak to an actual person. how cool is that!

They have definitely whet my appetite! If you would like further information then surf on over to the site via the linky I have added in for you.

Tracking Your Loved Ones Literally

Would you use GPS Tracking technology to track your loved ones? This subject was brought up on a friend of ours blog a few weeks back, and I thought I would address it here. My first, and gut reaction to the idea of keeping tabs on human beings with GPS Tracking tools is NO!!!!!!!

I feel this is the ultimate invasion of privacy, and can, and will be abused by creepy spouses, or lovers who have trust issues. And in my own opinion if you cannot trust the person you are with or feel you must resort to stalking them, then perhaps you need a good attorney, or moving truck, and not a GPS Tracking device.

Where I do see some benefits in using this type of technology provided fail safes are put into place to prevent abuse is with the elderly who are suffering dementia, or for other persons with severe mental deficiencies where becoming lost is a strong possibility.

Here in Toronto a couple of years back a young man with Downs Syndrome drowned in a river just outside of the nursing facility he was living in. Two days were spent looking for him before his body was found. In a case such as this I have to wonder if this type of thing may have saved his life?

LittleBigPlanet Will Be Hottest New Game

The E3 Game Conference has now ended, however excitement is building around MediaMolecule's new hot title LittleBigPlanet according to the BBC report on this event.

"Due out in October, the title is being heralded as the tipping point for user generated content in gaming. A platform title with bags of character and humour, gamers are given simple tools to build rich complex levels and then share them online."

Hubby tells me this was already tried in a PC format, but as far as I know this is a first for a game console like PlayStation. It sounds very intriguing, and I would love to check it out. I think this is something the kiddos will enjoy as well.

Home Maintenance Buying Guides

I had the opportunity to spend some time checking out the ShopWiki's buying guides for home maintenance products yesterday. Shopwiki's guides are different then others because they include al sources, and not just ads that have been paid for to get preferential treatment.

Say you are looking to get a good deal on a new high tech washing machine you just surf on over to the ShopWiki buying guide for washing machines.

If you do a search for best model irons you will also come up with a great how-to buying guide that includes links to reviews of irons and product recommendations. Did you know that in some cases the most expensive irons are no better than the cheapest! That is just one of the interesting things I learned while over at ShopWiki regarding just one product type!

The item that I am currently in the market for is a good cheap sewing machine and again I am now loaded with enough good shopping tips that when I am ready to make my purchase I will be making an informed choice, and hopefully getting the perfect one for me, at the best price. B)

The 2008 Constellation Awards!

Sadly, we only just got the press release this morning (we're a bit slow,) but we'd love to do a "double pimp" with this post.

The first to our family's favourite television series, (the new) Doctor Who which is a joint production of the BBC and our own CBC. The show is excellent family viewing without being boring or "old hat", which is a rare and wonderful thing.

The next is the fine folks at the TCON Promotional Society for putting on a fine celebration of the "gaining new ground in popularity thanks to things like Doctor Who" science fiction genre in Toronto called Polaris...

...and it was at Polaris that they gave out 2008 Constellation Awards for excellence in science fiction and fantasy.

The big winners were Will Smith for I Am Legend, Emma Watson for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix & the movie Transformers

...but we were very happy to read, in the press release for the awards...

CBC's co-production "Doctor Who" swept the television categories, picking up three trophies including "Best Science Fiction Television Series of 2007". The show's lead actor David Tennant won "Best Male Performance in a Science Fiction Television Episode" for the second year in a row, beating out nominees from "Heroes", "Supernatural", and "Chuck". Meanwhile, British actress Carey Mulligan was a surprise winner in the "Best Actress" category for her guest appearance in "Doctor Who", beating out popular lead actresses from "Battlestar Galactica", "Heroes", "Stargate SG-1", and other series.

We are thrilled that our favourite doctor (yes, he's our favourite... Tom Baker is a CLOSE second,) and "Sally Sparrow" (a character we hope they will revisit and do something with as she is much beloved by fans,) actress Carey Mulligan won these awards... and that this brilliant television series has been recognized for it's excellence!

Congratulations to all the winners of The Constellation Awards... and especially to our favourite, the folks who work on Doctor Who!

Cheers!

They Don't Make Them Like They Used To

My little nephew's 8th birthday is coming up this August, and I was stuck for some cool gift ideas. They just do not seem to make children's toys the way they used to or so I thought.

I was searching around ShopWiki's Classic Kids Toys shopping guides, and came up with a few good ideas based on some of the products that they are featuring. Not only are Classic and Retro Toys still available like the Radio Flyer, LEGO, and pedal cars, they are also still as durable, and fun, and reasonably priced as they were way back then.

Remember the Twister game that we used to play in the 70's? Can you believe this game is still available! If you check out the ShopWiki page they have a listing of several places you can purchase it from, and the best part is they are not listed because they paid for a spot on the site.

ShopWiki lists all the best buying sources! B)

I think I'll go for a model train set for the nephew as that is a classic toy that can turn into a lifetime hobby. :D

A Change In Plans

Good Sunday Morning My Peeps,

So last week the kid (teenager) wanted to dye her hair blue, then it was black hair that she just had to have, yesterday after buying a bottle of natural black hair dye she said forget she prefers her own dark brown hair colour...

Have I mentioned lately what fun, and games it is to live with an indecisive teenager who is a bundle of anxiety one minute and then laughing away without a care in the world next.....I personally would not want to be a teen again for any reason......

When I was a teen I struggled with acne as do many others at that awkward stage in life, even adults, and in those days there were no effective treatments like murad acne kits that you may have already heard about through various media. If you have not heard of them, and you have an acne problem or are perhaps the parent of someone who does you should really have a look at the murad acne complex website.

The website explains in detail the acne complex product line, and include simply amazing before, and after images of real people who are using it. You may also obtain online purchasing info directly from their site.

Thankfully the kid does not have acne problems, but if she did I would definitely make sure she was receiving effective treatment, and did not have to suffer in anyway because of it.

Angelina Jolie Has A Boy And A Girl

Don't ya think Angie Jolie would make the worlds best baby product spokes-model??? The American actress has reportedly given birth to her twins a boy, and a girl Knox Leon and the girl, Vivienne Marcheline named after Angelina's mother who passed away last year.

Dr Michel Sussmann told the Associated Press that Ms Jolie and the babies were "doing marvellously well".

Dr Sussman, who delivered the twins, said the birth had been moved forward "for medical reasons" but did not give further details.

Congratulations Brad, and Angelina!

Art Movers

Have you ever wondered what happens when fine art has to be moved to a different location either from a private person's collection or from an art gallery or a museum? I have, and to be completely honest I would not be overly trusting with my own not-so-fine artwork with just any regular mover that can be found in the back of a newspaper's classified section. I would be devastated if anything from my own collection was ruined, lost, or broken in any way. I can only imagine the concern with rare, and/or highly valuable art pieces.

Art Moving
in my opinion really should be left to the professionals only, and a company that has expertise in moving fine, and valuable art pieces.

If this is a subject that is of interest to you personally or you will be in need of an art moving service in the near future then please do take a moment to have a look at this website I was reading over earlier today.

Art moving and shipping is the expertise of Imagine Minds Eye.com, and should be the first online stop for any art collector or curator that needs these services in my own opinion. Have a look at the services they are offering by clicking on the link or give them a call at 1-800-428-9800.

My thanks to Imagine Minds Eye.com

Blue Hair Dye Need Advice

Kate Hudson Looking Hot In Blue

Ok I admit I need some help here. I have never tried dying my hair any funky colours, which is too bad because now that I am older I don't think it would be a good idea.

Now here is where I need your advice. The kid (teenager) wants to dye her hair blue, and I figured hey while she is young why not! B)

However, I have no experience in this, nor does her older sisters. So can anyone recommend a good at-home product (could not find any online) or should I just take her to the salon?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed :)

Torontonians Line Up For iPhone

The Apple iPhone 3G has gone on sale this morning here in Toronto, and despite the fact that it is literally thunder storming as I type people are actually lined up outside of the Rogers Plus at Yonge and Dundas in order to get their hot little hands on this piece of technology.

No, I am not one of the 100s estimated to be braving the torrential rain. To be honest I don't really care too much for Apple products, but to each their own. :p

Do you own one of these phones? Would you or did you line up for one? Was it worth it?

They Are Off And Running!

....well they are off, and running virtually so to speak :p

Tug River Princess - Photo by Clive Cohen

Here in Canada the Ontario Harness Horse Racing Association have put together a fun, animated, horse race game that you can play online => just give that link some clicky lovin' :D

I was excited to check out the game over at this new horse race website because can you believe it....I have never been to an actual racetrack despite having a long lineage of high rollers in my family. My mom once won $11.00 bux on a two dollar bet at the famous, and historic Miami area racetrack named Hialeah. I wrote all about it on our history blog in an entry entitled They Are Off And Running At Hialeah last year, but I digress....:p

I have always felt rather weird about online gambling, and virtual gaming websites, but this site is home grown, and put together by legitimate Canadian business, so I thought I would give it a chance.

Last night after the kiddo went to sleep I surfed on over to GetSulky.com and had a look around the place. Right now they are offering a chance at winning a cool $10K prize, and you can learn more about that through some unique animated characters such as the Dawg...

Heheheh.....yeah I could not resist giving some big phat pimpin' props to this character... B)

I learned quite a few things over at the website that I had not known of before in regards to harness racing, and placing bets. Apparently things have not changed too much since my Mom's day visiting the track as the basic minimum bet here in Ontario is still only two dollars. I also bookmarked their page on the history of harness racing, which I may use to reference a future article for the history blog I write for, and mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago....

Now I'm off and running as a grumpy teenager yells at me from the kitchen that the coffee pot is empty...ahhh the joys of summer break, and a teen that still has to get up early in the morning...:p

Urban Clothing - Streetwear Apparel

Yesterday I had an early morning appointment with the hospital, and afterwards the kiddo, and I decided to do a bit of thrift store shopping. WE stopped into our local Goodwill shop, and were pleasantly surprised to see that a local manufacturer had donated a bunch of seconds, slightly damaged, and end of the line urban wear.

My daughter picked up a bunch of items including a very cute corduroy jacket for $1.99 each. All of these were brand new, never before worn, and the only thing wrong with the jacket was a slight imperfection in the fabric of its lining...who cares....:D

All in all a fun and very inexpensive shopping experience :)

Mexican Honeymoon

Last year some good friends of the hubby, and myself were fortunate enough to spend their honeymoon in the lovely tropical Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and it sounds just heavenly. :D

I would love to vacation in this hot spot myself one day in the very near future, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Playa de Carmen condo rentals can actually be found at fairly reasonable rates no matter what time of year you are planning on going.

Not only are the condos affordable, but I have also found some great pricing on Playa de Carmen villas for those who might be travelling with family or a larger group. These accommodations are simply gorgeous, and would make for a dream trip!

If I have intrigued you with this post, and gorgeous photo above, and you might be considering a Mexican holiday or would just like some further information on a Playa de Carmen vacation rental please do give some clicky love to the links I have added in for you. :D

Trying To Keep It Cool

I am going to turn the tables a bit here, and hope that someone who might be able to point me in the right direction will read this. I am looking to purchase an air conditioner that is energy saving, and requires very few amps to get the compressor working.

I live in an 80+ year old home, and if I try to run a standard window air conditioning unit I cannot run anything else. No, I'm not kidding. :-/

Since rewiring is not an option perhaps some out there has an idea or knows of a god product, and can point me to its specs.

Any ideas would be appreciated. :)

House Music TV Is Hot!

Good Afternoon My Peeps,

While it continues to sizzle here in Toronto I have been enjoying house music DJs online from the comforts of my own home office. B)

If you LOVE the house music scene you have got to check out House Music TV which has got to be one of the best sites on the web for House music all over the world that I have personally ever come across! It is too cool!

The website is very well set-up, and easy to use. Instead of just a resource for music only, House Music TV puts you in touch with all of the hottest House DJs from all over the place, and all of the hottest nightclubs in Miami, Las Vegas, New York, you name it. If you are into the music you will definitely appreciate the videos that they have uploaded for your viewing pleasure. :D

Check out House Music TV for a listing of clubs, and events, which is a very handy way of knowing what is going on, and where. Another feature that you might just be interested in is their message boards where you can participate in some online discussion, and meet other House Music TV users.

All this, and free downloadable music too! Check it out :)

Too Hot For Anything But Playing The Game

The last few days here in Toronto it has been what hubby calls uber hot! Since I am definitely more of a winter person I have been staying indoors and catching up on my Nintendo game play, which is where I will be remaining until thunder showers help to get rid of this oppressive heat.

We are still using our Nintendo GameCube, however I am hoping to upgrade to the latest gaming system the Nintendo Wii that was all the rage last Christmas. I have taken a look at ShopWiki's pages for the Nintendo Wii Game Console and hopefully will be able to get a fairly good deal on one in the very near future.

One of the things that I will also definitely be needing to have a look at is all of those cool Wii Games my daughter's friends are talking about like something called the (Wii Hula Hoops I believe that is the right name) that really does sound like a lot of fun, and a super way to keep yourself in shape. B)

If you are also looking to upgrade have a look at ShopWiki's buying guides. I've linked to them above.

Goya Sketches Fetch Millions!

Recently discovered sketches by master artist Goya were auctioned off to a total of $8 million bux! The sketches were first auctioned off in Paris, France in 1877. The sketches were presumed lost until a private Swiss collector contacted the Christies London auction house about them.

Goya himself died in 1828, and one wonders how boggled his mind would be to know that his drawings could fetch such a princely sum!

The Best Digital Camera

Ok can anybody tell me, which is the best ultra compact digital camera available for purchase over the internet?

Well????

Canon PowerShot A570 IS

I do not believe that there is just one single choice that can be named the absolute best digital camera that one can buy, simply because there are so many different types, and models of camera currently available that it really comes down to what type of camera is best suited to your own needs, and of course your own budget.

The above image is of the Canon PowerShot A570 IS, which is I believe one of the best travel digital camera that can be bought online. However, I may just change my mind about that after checking out the BestInClass.com website, and look up digital camera expert recommendations.

BestInClass.com provides reviews that are written by experts within their field or of specific product types, and work on providing articles that will best fit with differing shoppers needs.

The website makes shopping online a snap, and they provide an excellent way for consumers to comparison shop, and find the perfect product for their needs. Have a look by clicking on one of the links I have added in for you. :)

The Magic Bullet

A few weeks back Hubby, and I caved in, and bought The Magic Bullet. In case you are wondering, no....it is nothing naughty! It is a blender that comes with 20 assorted pieces of stuff to go with it.

My youngest daughter had been bugging us to buy one for some time, and I was naturally hesitant. Most tech junk you see late at night on the tv is just that........junk....or a fad...and ends up collecting dust while taking up valuable cupboard space. Who needs more of that?!

You may have seen the late night infomercial for this gadget, and if so I have found that it is much cheaper to purchase at a local hardware/appliance shop, and that is exactly what we did. We saved almost half off of the advertised price if you factor in shipping.

Happy with the savings, we did start using The Magic Bullet pretty much immediately, and I am even more happy to report haven't stopped since. We have found that the Magic Bullet actually works better than the regular variety of blender, and is easy to care for. We know enjoy daily fruit smoothies for breakfast!!!

I do recommend anyone who wishes to try it out to purchase it, but again be wary of online prices, and check local stores first for comparison in pricing.

Gotta Love A Geek

I had the opportunity to check out the Web Hosting Geeks website earlier this morning. Just love their eye-catching logo eh!

For those of you unfamiliar with it Web Hosting Geeks offers reviews of all the top webhosting companies in an easy to check out format. Each company comes with a listing that includes rank, benefits & features, and the ability for the users of the site to review their own webhosting service if listed.

After all of the issues that I have had with my previous webhosting service (long-time readers may recall) I cannot stress enough the importance of having good, reliable webhosting. Web Hosting Geeks makes it possible for users to compare different services in on one handy page, and hopefully find the company that will work best for you.

Tesla Roadster

For me what makes this car a hot product is that it is eco-friendly, and will hopefully come down in price from its current $100,000 US.

For those interested in more family oriented vehicles Tesla Motors has announced that it will start production on the Model S a four-door, five-passenger sedan.

The Model S is slated to be available in 2010, with a price tag of about $60,000.

Shopping For Police Gear Online

Hey My Peeps!

I first started shopping online when I was working full-time and the kid was much younger. I found this method of shopping to be very convenient, and more fitting with my busy lifestyle. I still do the majority of my shopping online, including groceries!

When it comes to very demanding lifestyles I imagine that being a pollice officer or serving in the military would rank very high. If you add into that mix family, and friends who wants or has the time to spend shopping.

This is where LA Police Gear comes in! They have got everything you need to be kitted out including tactical pants, shirts, footwear, watches, holsters, eye-wear, and a heck of a lot more. I was very impressed by the various selection they are offering.

The LA Police Gear.com website is easy to use, offers quality merchandise, and the pricing is very good!

Right now they are having an Independence Day sale where you can get 15% off your total, just check the site for further details, and to grab your coupon code. B)

Oil & Gas Prices Will Continue To Rise

Yesterday while carpooling on a rather long road trip with a friend I confided to her how happy I was to no longer own a car. Yes, I am being quite serious with you!

The main reason of not wanting to deal with the hassle of car ownership is of course the ridiculous price for oil. Are we really running out? Or is someone trying to amass an even greater fortune through promoting fear? Hmmmmm.......

Either way the price of oil is set to continue to rise in part due to this statement made by the Saudis:

"Saudi Arabia's oil minister suggested his country doesn't plan to boost production."

So far oil prices have risen more than 50 percent this year, and the experts are predicting an even further price hike.

Surfs Up!!!

I have always wanted to yell out those words "Surf's Up" perhaps because I was a huge sucker for all those 1960's surf flicks when I was a kid, and perhaps because I have always been a beach bum at heart despite being born a Canadian girl!

No that is not me! I wish!

So how hard would it be for a Canadian such as myself to indulge in a little dream, and take in some surfing lessons? Apparently not hard at all! I was checking out a website that offers surf camps for those who want to learn how to surf in a fun, and very safety oriented environment. These surf schools are appropriate for kids, teens, and yes even people like myself => slightly over the hill adults. B)

One of the services that I personally really appreciated is that they offer women-only classes, which I would be more comfortable with to be honest, especially because my surfing experience thus far is nil.

If you have been looking into summer camps that offer surfing than look no more, just click on that linky I have added in for you above, and check out the site, including video for further details. :D

As I was checking out the site I thought to myself what an absolutely fun way to spend a summer holiday, learn a new skill or sharpen up an old one, and stay in shape!

Information On Facial Plastic Surgery

I had the opportunity this morning to spend some time looking at an online resource for the topic of facial plastic surgery, which also happens to be the website of a top Minnesota plastic surgeon as selected in 2007. The surgeon is Dr. Szachowicz, and his website is very well designed, and meant to be highly user friendly.

Screen shot of Homepage

The very nature of facial plastic surgery is a highly sensitive topic for most. I believe Dr. Szachowicz's website has been put together with that in mind, as it offers easy to understand information, that is worded to extend compassion, and caring. I truly had the sense that I was dealing with those who were highly experienced, and knowledgeable, which put me immediately at ease while reading through the website, and that is a very good thing! :D

Dr. Szachowicz's website not only describes both surgical, and non-surgical techniques, it also provides information on who may or may not be a good candidate for each. I also had a look through the website's photo gallery, which is fairly extensive, and provides good examples of before, and after images to give potential patients a good idea on what results may be achieved.

I would highly recommend that anyone seeking some online information on the topic of facial plastic surgery have a read through of Dr. Szachowicz's website.

A Consumer Advocacy Website

Good Morning My Peeps,

I have spent the early morning hours looking into a consumer advocacy website that provides its users with up-to-date information, and news on all sorts of different financial products.

If you are in need of information on mortgages, or personal loans, or even banking services in general this online resource should be of interest to you. Aside form the articles, news items, and financial tips they also provide their users with a handy online mortgage calculator that I tried out, and found very easy to use.

The SimplyFinance.co.uk website is well designed in my own opinion, and I had no trouble at all find the info that I was personally looking for via the site. The language, and terminology used within the articles is also easy for the average consumer to understand, and provides a great way to not only learn more, but to compare different financial products too.

Surf on over to the site if you are looking for financial info, and you will see what I'm talking about first-hand. You will most likely want to bookmark the site as well so that you can refer to it when needed.

The Burden Of Crushing Debt

Yeah, I know. The economy is being flushed down the loo, and you dear reader are stressed because your debt load just seems to be getting bigger, and bigger. Been there done that, and hope to never ever get into so much financial trouble again.

In the early 1990's I faced a lot of credit problems, and was hounded by creditors, and collection agencies. Not only does that cause a tremendous amount of stress, but it also can be very financially draining as penalties, and late payment interest charges keep on ballooning, and just adding to the primary debt.

I did have a light at the end of the tunnel though, and I will tell you about it.

Debt Consolidation
from my own credit trouble experiences is the only way to go in order to manage your finances, and get back on track to hopefully one day being debt free.

If you are currently going through credit, and financial crisis do yourself, and your family if you have got one, a big favour and surf on over to the debtfree24.com website, and check out how they might be able to help you through debt consolidation. Their website is easy to use, and full of practical information. You can have a look at it for yourself by clicking that link I have added in for you.

There is no shame in being financially burdened, for the most part we all are at some point in our life. Thankfully these days with the internet we can get the info we need, and the help to credit recovery quickly through sites such as the one I have reviewed for you today.

Domain Names Are Going To Be Changing

According to a news report that I heard on 680 News this morning domains names are about to greatly expand beyond the dot-com, and the dot-org so to speak. Son there will be dot-hotel, and perhaps even dot-sex to contend with if the people who govern domain names have their way.

Here is a snippet from the news item:

Get ready for an Internet gold rush, as the group that overseas Internet domain names will be considering a plan, Thursday, to relax the rules regarding the naming of websites.

Internet domain names are approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

The board of ICANN will be voting on two key proposals that could reshape the Web.

The first is a plan to allow domains that use letters other than Latin characters, specifically Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic letters.

It'll also consider a plan to free-up choices for the dot-com suffix -- from the standard dot-com, dot-org, dot-ca -- to such as things like dot-hotel or dot-sex.

I Love My Blinds

As I sit here at my desk feeling the first pains of what could turn out to be a brutal headache (I suffer migraines) I am thinking I am so glad for the heavy duty black Roman blinds that I purchased for our bedroom. I have classic migraines meaning I become very nauseated, and light intolerant when they strike. My only course of action when it gets that bad is to take my prescription meds, and lie down in my very dark bedroom thanks to my blinds that are maximum light blocking.

If you dear reader suffer from similar ailments you may just want to check out some of the great blinds that are featured at BlindsExpress.com. They have excellent examples of what I'm talking about. Just do a quick search on Roman blinds, and you'll see what I am talking about.

Not only do they carry all the hot brand names like Hunter Douglas, Levolor, and Bali Blinds to name just three, they also provide hot deals, and coupons to save you the big bux on these high quality items.

Enjoy!

Now I think I'm going to take a few moments to turn down the blinds, and hope this headache passes without too much issue.....

Cheers!

Nintendo Not Very Green According To Green Peace

Nintendo is not very eco-friendly according to a survey that was released by the environmental watch dog group Green Peace. Nintendo has countered this claim however by stating it never participated in the Green Peace survey in the first place. Here is a snippet from the BBC news report in regards:

Games firm Nintendo has come bottom of a ranking of the world's most eco-friendly electronics firms.

The quarterly Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics ranks 18 electronics firms by how green their production processes and products are.

In the latest guide most firms have seen their ranking plummet as the charity introduced new, stricter guidelines for evaluating companies.

Nintendo said its scored low because it had not provided data for the survey.

"Greenpeace chose to conduct a survey and produce a report, which graded companies upon the voluntary submission of information," the firm said in a statement.

"Nintendo decided not to take part in the survey and were therefore 'ungraded' in the resulting report.

But Greenpeace countered the company's statement and insisted it had been graded.

Full Article Here

Are you a green consumer? Do you pay attention to these type of survey results? Would you consider buying a different game console because of these findings?

I tend to buy green, BUT I do love Nintendo so I am personally very disappointed. :(

Shopping For Women's Clothing Online

This one is especially for the ladies :)

You know what a hassle it can be to shop for womens fashions online right? I certainly find it difficult to find online shops that cater to my own particular needs. I have however just discovered a hot shopping site that will take a lot of the hassles away!

The site is called ShopWiki, and it is too cool! Check this out...

ShopWiki screen shot

Above you will see a screen shot I have taken of my search for Clothing For Women on the ShopWiki website. What you are looking at is just the top of my browser, the page goes on, and on with a ton of great info. All of this information is put together in an easy to read, and highly organised format. I found the site to be very user friendly. :D

My first stop on the site was the Summer Style Guide. This seasonal category highlights all the newest summer trends especially for women. I was quite nicely impressed with how detailed it is.

I then got very specific with my search, and looked for my own fashion fave for this year's hot looks the Bubble Skirt, and they look so great in my opinion! I was able to narrow my search terms by brands, prices, even colours! Now how cool is that! B)

If the gents who happen along this page are feeling left out, why not surf on over and do a Mens Clothing search. ;)

ShopWiki is a handy shopping tool in my opinion. :)

Baby Bunny

Yep, that is our bunny, "Baby" I was playing around with some imaging software, and decided that I would share her pic with you. :D

Over the last three years that I have been blogging on a regular basis I have found that images really do enhance blog entries, and when I do use them people are more likely to read the post than when I do not. I'm not sure if that reflects on me as a writer though...or the masses as blog surfers....hmmmm....:p

Admissions Essay Help

It has been quite a few years now since I attended a formal school, and unfortunately I was unable at that time to finish a post secondary education. However, I still do remember how tough it could be at times to write a good essay, at least one that stood out, and would get noticed above the others that were being turned in.

When it comes to the top business schools around the country did you know that each year they only accept "less than 12% of their highly qualified applicants?" I actually just learned that statistic myself, but it is a sobering number, and a bit nerve racking I would think for those students that hope to pursue an MBA.

Now if this were my own educational path, and goal I would most definitely consider using an MBA admission essay drafting, and guidance service. I would want to have that extra little bit of help to guarantee my success.

Admissions Essays.com provide just those types of essay development services that could help to insure you get picked by the school of your choice. In my own humble opinion they are at least worth going to check out, and you can do so by clicking on that linky that I have added in for you. Have a look at their samples, and success stories, and see if they can give you that peace of mind of knowing you will have a terrific admissions essay. :D

Convention & Trade Show Exhibits

I have written on this blog about how back in the day when I was still working full-time in the print industry I was often involved in helping set-up our company's trade show exhibits, and how fun those times could be on occasion.

I was reminded of that point within my own career today when I was checking out the Godfrey Group's website. The Godfrey Group provides all sorts of displays, booths, graphics, and other accessories at very reasonable pricing. I can tell you that I found their pages to be quite eye-catching and was eager to learn more.

They provide a large assortment of display options, and specialise in custom orders. They even will provide you with set-up, and knock down of your exhibit. How cool is that!

You can surf on over to their website to see what I'm talking about for yourself or if you would like you can give a quick call to one of their project managers via their toll-free line at (800) 789-9394. And do not forget to ask for details about their Exhibit Marketing & Sales Promotion Tool Book, which is free!

Hot Shopping Tip For Shoes

Hey My Peeps!

My daughter just rang me up on her lunch break to tell me she was heading over to Payless Shoes as not only have they got some great sales on summer shoes, but they have also apparently just started up another great BOGO event!

BOGO stands for Buy One Get One 1/2 off, and it is so worth it!

I think I may just head on over there tomorrow as the youngest kiddo needs some new sandals, and water shoes to take up to the cottage later this week.

Help For Infertility

Many of my regular readers would already know this, but just in case you are new around here I will tell you that aside from being a blogger, and shopping critic so to speak I am also the proud Mom of three young women.

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you my readers something that I have never shared online through this blog before, and that is that during the early 1980's when I was a young woman I was told by my G.P. that I may have difficulty having children of my own. This never thankfully came to pass as with the exception of one my pregnancies each were fairly easy to conceive. I do remember the devastating feelings I had at the time my doctor told me I may never have children, and therefore can greatly empathise with couples who are or have had difficulty in conceiving a child.

That of course as they say was then, and this is now. Medical science has come a very long way since those days, and today there is real, and positive help for couples who are having issues with infertility. :D

I had the opportunity to visit the website of Chicago infertility expert Dr. Randy Morris, and was very impressed with what I saw. Dr. Morris' website is very well designed, and user friendly. People can easily find the information that they are seeking. And there is quite a bit of info that can be found on everything you need to know about both male, and female infertility.

When I was starting out my family there was no internet, so of course no websites such as this where I could easily access information that could have given me some peace of mind through the knowledge that real help exists for those of us that may need it :)

Cheers!

Rest In Peace George

It was with much sadness that I learned of the passing of one of my favourite comedians George Carlin this morning via the radio program I have my alarm set to. While I can say I am not overly shocked at his passing, (he battled drugs and drink most of his life) I am still very sad that the world has lost such a creative genius, and a person who was not afraid to tell it exactly as it is.

RIP George Carlin, you will be very much missed.

Free Blood Glucose Meter

Good Afternoon My Peeps,

As some of my readers may already know my Mother was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of years ago. It was with her in mind that I had the opportunity to check out Hocks Pharmacy, and their generous offer of a free blood glucose monitor with certain purchases.

If you have not heard of Hocks Pharmacy before you might just want to check them out. They provide their customers with fast shipping, and great prices on diabetic supplies, which you can purchase right from the comfort of your own home computer or from the office. How cool, and handy is that!

The Hocks Pharmacy website in my humble opinion is very well designed, and easy for online shoppers to use. They also offer online customer support live from their site, and a 1-800 phone line.

For further details please do check out their website via one of the links I have added into this entry for your convenience above or through the image. There is a commonly asked questions page, which is especially helpful for new customers.

What Is A Lifetime Worth?

This is the question that at least one eBay seller is trying to find out, at least in a monetary sense.

According to a BBC news item Ian Usher, has decided to auction off everything in his life due to a divorce. He is selling off his house, friends and job on the internet auction site eBay.

Here is a snippet from the BBC report:

The 44-year-old said he hoped to earn about £185,000 for his Perth lifestyle.

Just over five hours after bidding opened on Sunday, the highest offer was just over £314,000.

Up for auction is his three-bedroom home in the western Australian city and everything inside it, including his car, motorcycle, jet ski and parachuting gear.

He is also selling an introduction to his friends and a trial run at his job.

Mr Usher said: "Everything that I have - the furniture in the house - all has memories attached to it. It's time to shed the old, and in with the new.

"On the day it's all sold and settled, I intend to walk out of my front door with my wallet in one pocket and my passport in the other, nothing else at all.

Full BBC Article Here

When I read this report I thought to myself what an interesting idea! I wish Mr Usher well, and will post a follow-up to this story if/when possible.

Reviewing A Review Generator

Today I have had the opportunity to check out a website that is offering a Blog Review Generator for a fairly reasonable price in my opinion.

Have you ever had your blog reviewed? The Nuttin' But Pimp blogged has been fortunate enough to have reviews of it done a few times, and I can tell ya it really does make a blogger feel goodly to know that their writing is appreciated by somebody else. Heck, I have even given a couple of those reviews permanent linky love over on my sidebar. Check them out!

Getting back to the site I have mentioned above I thought to myself what a useful product for anyone that might be thinking of starting up their own blog or website review site. For a nominal fee you can download the review generator, and it will produce reviews at various lengths that are unique in content, and already grammatically, and spell checked for you. Now how cool is that! B)

Reviews sites are becoming more, and more popular in the blogosphere, and this product may just give the owner of one of these a leg up especially if they are planning on doing several reviews per day or are gaining in popularity.

Check it out by clicking on the linky I have added in for you. :D

Goodly, I tell ya! :D According to a news report the Canadian manufacturing sector, and energy sector may be getting a much needed boost by a German company that wishes to build several giant wind turbines right here in lake Ontario! Toronto - Is the answer to the province's future electricity needs blowing in the wind? A German company thinks so.

Queen's Park has signalled it wants to see wind power as a key component of the province's energy generation. Trillium Power Wind Corporation wants to build a $2.5-billion wind farm in Lake Ontario, offshore south of Kingston, and it's got a German company that makes the turbines looking at the province as a major manufacturer of future technology.

The Best Trade Show Displays

Tis the season for trade shows, and conventions, and I should know because I have set-up quite a few of them in the past myself. And while those days are long gone for me, I can assure you I do know a thing or two about the industry, and the importance of having an effective display.

If you are going to be setting up a booth or are interested in learning how you can improve your own trade show displays then you have got to take a look at the Camelback Displays website. I was going through their website with the hubby this past week, and I was impressed with what I saw.

I have to say that what impressed me the most was the quality, and sheer variety of display options Camelback is offering. No matter what your needs, or budget they have something to suit all needs.

Have a look at these truss exhibits. I just love the futuristic looks, and feel you can achieve either as permanent or portable displays. If you have a read-through the testimonials you can see how Camelback Displays can save you 1,000s of bux on these types of exhibits.

You may just wish to surf on over, and have a look at these banner stands. These are fully customizable, and the possibilities are seemingly endless. I personally like the pop-up variety for effect, but as you will see there are differing sizes, single-sided, free-standing etc so quite a bit to choose from.

Never Before Seen Marilyn Monroe

Never before seen footage from behind the scenes of Marilyn Monroe's last film entitled The Misfits will be auctioned off in the United States this weekend.

A very short video clip of this footage can be seen on the BBC website. Just click the linky I have added in for you to view the soundless clip.

The reels were shot in 1961 by an extra on the set of the last film she completed, and are expected to fetch up to $20,000 US bux. They also feature her co-star at the time Clark Gable who also died soon after.

Once the reels are purchased they may never be seen again, which is sad because they show Marilyn in a way her fans never got to see. Since it is behind-the-scenes what you are getting is a taste of the "real" Marilyn, relaxed, and off-camera so to speak.

Shopping For Appliances Online

Have you ever bought or have you ever thought about making a major purchase such as buying stoves, microwaves, or refrigerators online? To date all of my purchases have been small ones, and not large ticket items. However, I have come across an online resource Wize.com that covers major appliances like refrigerators as well as all manner of smaller products. Not only do they provide sources for in-store shopping, but online sources are also listed.

Here is a screen shot of the refrigerators page.

As you can see the site is designed to be user friendly. It has also been designed to eliminate as much of the hassle of finding exactly what you the shopper are looking for as possible based on your own criteria. For instance when I added the search term bar this is what came up:

By being specific in what I was looking for the results were narrowed down to reviews of items that I would be most interested in saving me a lot of time, and potential aggravation.

I will definitely recommend the Wize.com site to shoppers who are looking for bargains, and reviews of the best the web has got to offer in one convenient online shopping community.

Busted! Former Nortel Networks CEO Frank Dunn

Yep, according to a 680 News breaking news alert the RCMP (that is Royal Canadian Mounted Police for non-Canadian readers) have busted former Nortel CEO Frank Dunn this very morning on charges of fraud.

Dunn, has been charged with fraud affecting the public securities market, as well as with falsification of accounts and documents and involvement in issuing a false prospectus.

His colleagues former Nortel chief financial officer Douglas Beatty, and former corporate controller Michael Gollogly are also to be charged with similar fraud related crimes.

And yes it really pisses me off when crimes of this nature are committed because it is always the little guy who is ruined financially while these types get off with serving time in Club Fed.

Hopefully the RCMP will have gotten their man so to speak. We will see.....

ABM Fraud Gang Busted

I was just listening to a news report on 640 News a local Toronto area radio station about a gang of ABM fraudsters being busted here in the city.

Police speculate that some "150,000 customers" may have been affected and more than "$1,000,000.00" is likely to have been stolen.

From both a business, and consumer perspective this type of crime along with identity theft is something that does greatly consumer me. What are your thoughts? Is this just a sign of the times? Is there more than can be done as a preventative measure to foil these types of crimes before they take place?

Housing Bubble To Burst In Toronto

As new condo sales are going up in my fair city of Toronto I have to wonder how long it will take before the housing bubble finally bursts. I mean who realistically can afford a $600,000 dollar price tag on a home, certainly very few of my generation. I think the bubble will burst as the economy also shows its first signs of weakening, and perhaps in the long run that will be a good thing for T.O the good. :D

Speaking of condo sales it is high time city planners took notice, and realised that what people want is smaller homes that are easier to maintain both financially, and physically in higher density areas that are well serviced by public transit .... sigh.....

Second Chance Auto Loans

I have yet to meet someone in my opinion that was undeserving of a second chance when it comes to credit, finances, and loans. How about you? Right now with the economy the way it has been slumping a lot of us have gotten into financial binds that affect our credit rating, and our credit history.

Jennifer Lopez Attends Autistic Children Graduation

J.Lo has always been one classy lady in my humble opinion, and it is a shame that she tends to get a lot of what I can only call mean-spirited press. Therefore it is really nice to see when the media takes the time to actually cover a story that shows what a caring person she really is. Read on:

Students at a Staten Island, N.Y., elementary school for autistic children really like the way singer-actress Jennifer Lopez moves.

So teacher Kathy Amati showed the video for Lopez's "Let's Get Loud" to the students at Public School 37.

The children liked it so much they wanted to watch it every day, eventually learning the lyrics and the dance moves from the video.

With their teacher's encouragement, they wrote to Lopez, hoping for pictures or an autograph.

Instead, she asked to come to their graduation.

On Tuesday, the singer-actress performed "Let's Get Loud" for a group of 10-and 11-year-olds at their graduation ceremony.

There are well written articles to read through on different subjects that are related to the topic of credit cards. These are easily accessed from the sidebar of the site. Users can read about, and compare different credit cards, and when ready you can also apply for those cards directly through the Extra Credit Cards website. The application process is fairly quick, and easy, and of course the bonus is that you can do so directly online from the comfort of your home computer or your office PC.

If you are interested in learning more or are thinking about applying for a credit card have a look at the site by clicking on the logo above or via the linky I have added in for you. :D

Drive-Thru Hurts The Environment

There is no denying it. Common sense alone should tell us that drive-thru fast-food restaurants hurt our environment, but now there is a study to back that claim up.

Read on:

Toronto - A Markham developer said drive-throughs waste gas and pollute the environment -- and he's conducted a survey to prove it.

Dave de Sylva said he wants all drive-throughs closed for the sake of the environment.

He told the Toronto that he studied 29 burger and coffee shop drive-throughs in Markham.

Based on his study, he calculated that idling cars in the lineups waste 435,000 litres of gas a year and belt out 118 tonnes of pollution into the air.

Full 680 News Article Here

What do you think? Do you use drive-thrus? Will you stop using them now? Do you think they should be banned or do you think that would be going to far?

A Guide To Online Forex Currency Trading

Hubby and I were recently discussing online Forex Trading and its up, and down sides. I have to admit I did not know that much about the subject before, however I was determined to learn more after the hubby related to me how a lady at his office actually made a tidy profit through Forex. Apparently she used a bit of a windfall that she received from an insurance claim payout to invest in Forex Trading, and it worked out well for her. I won't give out any more details in regards to her personal situation, but will say again I was intrigued.

This morning I had a look at FabForex.com, which is an online guide to Forex currency trading => something that to the best of my knowledge was once the domain of banks, and large corporations pretty much solely. Now savvy investors can get in on the action, but it is not without risks, which thankfully are not downplayed on this site.

In fact the site provides useful information in order for its users to make informed decisions on Forex Trading. One of the most helpful articles I found was on how to avoid online Forex scams!

Have a look for yourself by clicking on the link I have added in for you, and you will see how easy it is to use this site.

London On Ice

Forgive the pun, but I thought this ad campaign was too cool.....

London on ice...literally

I originally saw the image above posted to the BBC. What you are looking at is famous London landmarks that are modelled in ice, the city itself can be seen in the background. How cool is it to see the London Eye all carved out in ice!

The entire sculpture was commissioned by a Chinese brewer as it promotes its beer in the UK. And it is definitely eye-catching!

Air Canada To Cut 2000 Jobs

As a proud Canadian it was with some sadness that I read today that Air Canada is set to cut 2,000 people's jobs as a direct response to fuel cost increases.

Montie Brewer, the president of Air Canada, called the job cuts "painful," but said the airline needs to reduce flying time in order to ensure profitability.

I guess this is yet another casualty to big oil's greed that not only affects people at the pumps, and through their pocketbooks, but through their very livelihoods as well.

Air Canada's cuts, and the closure of GM's Canadian truck plants are certainly as signal to possible rougher times ahead, and a blow to the Canadian labour force. :(

Professional Phone Counselling

Good Morning My Peeps,

I had the opportunity to visit a website this morning that offers information on how to get in contact with marriage, and family phone counselors as well as providing articles, links, book recommendations, and other resources to individuals, and couples.

The website itself is very well put together in my opinion. I appreciated how easy it was to find the information that I was looking for, and that the directory of phone counselling has a consumer feedback rating system to help in the decision process of who might be best for your own circumstances. The site also clearly indicates where no feedback has yet been received.

When you look through the directory each counsellor comes with a link to details on their speciality, their credentials, and clearly lists the cost per minute of each phone call.

Part of this fabulous directory includes therapists, and counsellors that you can access online as well giving you more than one option in how users seek out the help they are looking for. I definitely would recommend the site to anyone either a.) looking to find a counsellor, or b.) is a counsellor, and looking for an effective way of advertising, and getting your practice out there.

While we hope to never need these services, statistics bear out that most of at some point will, and it is great to know that we can easily find the help we need through this online resource.

Cheers!

Ontario Wine Sales Up

According to a news item that I just heard over the radio, Ontario wine sales are up. In fact sales numbers for the Ontario wine producers are better than they ever have been, which is very good news indeed considering other sectors are certainly beginning to see the results of a US economic slow down.

It is also quite clear that Canadians are no longer buying Canadian made cars therefore it is good to hear that we are purchasing some quality products from our own neck of the woods so to speak. :)

Saving Money On Insurance

Most everyone requires some form of insurance. As most of you know I have been a city dweller for the past decade, and therefore it has been a very long time since I have personally needed auto insurance. It just is not financially feasible to own a car in the heart of an urban centre when I have mass transit at my doorstep. And in a way I'm very glad of this because from what I have heard insurance costs like everything else these days are steadily going up.

I was chatting up the ex-husband the other day who owns, and operates a larger one tonne cargo van for his business. He requires Van Insurance which if used commercially does make a difference in costs, but regardless of business or personal usage it really does pay to shop around for the best possible insurance rates.

I had the opportunity of visiting the Autonet Insurance website earlier today, and they provide comprehensive information to their users on the different types of van insurance that are available. They also offer the lowest insurance prices guaranteed or they will refund your money back.

For further details on how you might be able to save money through them you can check out their website via the linky I added in for you. Any savings no matter how little or big is a help these days especially when it comes to insurance costs in my opinion.

Stocking Up On Stocking Stuffers

Yes...I do know that Christmas is still 1/2 a year away, but I have already started my stocking stuffer shopping. This past weekend I grabbed some really cool looking sets of beads, and two vintage tv show key chains that will be going into my family stockings this coming Christmas.

By starting this early I am usually finished up my Christmas shopping by Halloween time, and can then be free to enjoy the holiday season without the stress of shopping for it at that time.

Getting Creative With Your Gift Cards

People love to give, and receive Gift Cards these days. And why not, they are easy to obtain, and insure the recipient can purchase something that they really want.

Now GiftCardLab.com is taking the giving of gift cards one step further by allowing you to customise the card itself! Yep, you can upload your own images, logos, photos etc to their website, and create a very personal VISA gift card.

The possibilities are just endless! If you have a business you may just want your business logo put on the card, or if you are giving the card to a family member or friend you'll want to add something they would appreciate like a favourite flower, pet, or even the grandchildren. I might add a photo of the myself, and the person I'm giving the gift to. Just a thought.

Very cool idea, and a fun way to give a gift card! :D B)

Canadian Shoppers Being Hosed

Over the weekend I was reading an article on how Canadians are still paying approximately 20% more for goods than our American counterparts despite the fact that our dollar has been at par, and higher than their US buck for months now. What is up with that?!

Things online are different, and that is why I prefer online shopping using PayPal. Not only can I get some great USA bargains, but I can use PayPal to convert currency, and therefore when the Canadian dollar is at par or higher I can save even more! $$$$$

If You Need A Payday Loan

I had the opportunity to visit an online resource for Pay Day Loans this morning, and I thought that many of you may be interested in checking it out for yourselves.

PaydayLoansMania.com makes borrowing a cash advance off of your pay very easy. Their website is set-up to be user friendly, and easy to navigate. You can apply for your loan directly online through them, and be approved in as little as one hour.

If you are worried about your credit history then do not be...they are not concerned with your current or past credit rating.

If you need some quick cash because you've overspent, and now have got to get the rent paid, or groceries on the table, or if there is a bill that has got to be paid yesterday before the phone gets cut off this may just be a solution for you. And remember we have all been there. :)

High Fuel Costs Around The World

I think sometimes it is easy for us Western consumers to forget that high fuel costs affect everyone around the world. For some people though these insane costs are not just a matter of inconvenience in the pocket book, but for some it will mean starvation.

The above photo is from the BBC. It shows a man who works as a bus driver sleeping inside a bus, as transport workers and traders strike over fuel price rises in Jammu, Indian-administered Kashmir.

They say a photo is worth a thousand words, and put into its context this image can serve to remind us that we are all affected around the world by what I can only say is big oil's greed.

Just some weekend food for thought!

US Retail Sales On The Rise

Some really good news this past week for American retailers as May sales rise to their highest level in over 6 months. Perhaps the US economy is not as bad as we were thinking it was going to be?

Here is a snippet of the good news article from the BBC:

US retail sales climbed by the largest amount in six months during May after spending was helped by tax rebates.

Sales rose by a better-than-expected 1% in May, the Commerce Department said, the largest rise since November.

It also said April's figure had been revised up to a rise of 0.4% against the previous estimate of a 0.2% fall.

Economists said the rise indicated that the economy had been given a boost by the stimulus package under which millions of Americans got tax rebates.

Full BBC Article Here

Shout out to my American peeps! What are your thoughts on the tax rebates? Do you think they were a good thing? Could the government have done better? Did you use your rebate to purchase items that you might not have considered purchasing otherwise?

Have a great weekend everyone! And do not forget you have only two more shopping days at the time of my typing this entry to pick-up a gift for Father's Day, which is this coming Sunday!

June Is Moving Month

According to my sister-in-law who is a real estate agent, traditionally June is definitely a hot month for moving. I guess this has a lot to do with the end of the school year, and with the nicer weather. For whatever reasons people are statistically more inclined to move over the course of the summer months more than at other times of the year. This means it is a busy time as well for professional Movers.

Regardless of when you relocate the Moving company that you ultimately choose to assist you is going to be one of the most important considerations you will have to make, or at least as a smart shopper it should be one of the most important. As with everything else in life not all Moving Companies are created equal, therefore it is a wise move (forgive the pun) on your part to do as much research as possible beforehand, and with plenty of time prior to the actual move date as you can manage. After all it is your belongings, sometimes precious, and/or irreplaceable that you are entrusting to be transported.

For your own peace of mind you may just want to have a look at this excellent online resource that I checking out this very morning.

Screen Shot Of Movers.com

Movers.com specialises in making certain you armed with the information you need to insure a successful move from start to finish. They offer detailed info for Local, National, and International movers. No matter where you are going, and no matter how quickly you have to leave they can assist you.

I have personally found that Movers.com is very easy to use, and designed so that even newer computer users can quickly find the information they are looking for. You can even call them directly for free moving quotes. How cool is that! B)

For further information have a look at their website. And for those of my readers who will be moving this summer => best wishes for your move!

A Very Cool Appliance

Earlier today my hubby sent me an article on a very cool appliance. The appliance is a washing machine that works while using only a single cup of water! Now how cool is that?! Read on for a snippet from the news item on this innovative appliance.

A washing machine that uses only a cup of water to carry out a full wash, leaving clothes virtually dry, has been developed by British inventors.

Researchers say the technology, which uses less than 2 per cent of the water and energy of a conventional machine, could save billions of litres of water each year.

The machine, which has been created by academics at Leeds University, works by using thousands of plastic chips - each about half a centimetre in size - to absorb and remove dirt.

Depending on how much they will be selling these for I would definitely by one. Hopefully they will be mass marketed, and people given tax breaks or rebates for purchasing them.

Review Of A Branding Agency

Pump up your brand, pump it up, pump it up!!!! I have got this jingle running through my head that was in part inspired by my checking out the website of a Branding Agency called Brand Identity Guru Inc. And isn't that exactly what branding is all about, getting something be it a message, or product or service into one's head so to speak. :D

The Brand Identity Guru website is fun, and informative in my opinion. The site itself is set up to be very easy to use, and gives the user an immediate sense of these people know what they are talking about.

For a quick introduction to the services being offered be sure to play the video located right on the main page of the website. From the main page you can also handily surf to the various sub-sections of the site. These sub-sections include articles on relevant topics to the services being offered by the company including brand identity and brand image, marketing strategies, branding strategies, web design, search engine optimization techniques, and much more.

USA Tomato Scare

I had just finished having a quarter pounder with cheese, and yes tomatoes when I heard over the radio that McDonalds in Canada was following the US lead, and pulling tomatoes off its menu due to a food poisoning scare. It is very rare I eat at McDonalds, and to be honest this was a bit of a turn off for me, despite the fact the company acted quickly, and responsibly.

What are your thoughts? Remember the spinach scare? Did it turn you off spinach? Will tomato growers now suffer even long after their products are proven safe?

The Aesthetic Wellness Center

Good Almost Noon My Peeps,

I know.... a rather very late posting this morning, but I was off to the hospital for some routine blood work. Since arriving back home I have settled into my comfy chair, and with a cup coffee have been pleasantly surfing through The Aesthetic Wellness Center's website.

If you are looking to have any non-surgical or surgical procedures such as a face lift or rhinoplasty Boston USA is very close to the location of The Aesthetic Wellness Center, which is under the expert direction of Dr. Min S. Ahn.

Facial plastic surgery can be intimidating for some people, and I would encourage anyone who is thinking about having a procedure done to themselves or knows of someone who is contemplating one to surf on over to the Awcenter.com website, which offers its users comprehensive information in easy to understand language. You will definitely be far more informed, and enlightened by just reading through the website, and viewing some of the photos contained in their online photo gallery in my own humble opinion.

If interested in possibly booking an appointment for further consultation direct contact info for The Aesthetic Wellness Center is located on their website. While the center is located near Boston, they do offer care to patients from around the globe.

It Is A Sad Day For Canadian Manufacturing

It is a sad end to the work week in my opinion as General Motors has reaffirmed their decision to close the Oshawa, Ontario truck plants. This is going to mean 2,600 job losses, and will severely hurt the local economy as all businesses from convenience stores to local eateries will suffer because of this.

While I do understand that consumers no longer wish gas guzzling vehicles (who the heck can afford them) GM could have committed to perhaps switching the plant to making fuel efficient, or smaller cars.

All I can say is shame on the Big 3 North American Auto-makers of late in particular GM.

Here is a news snippet from 680 News:

General Motors told its Canadian union, Friday, that it won't change its mind about closing the truck plant in Oshawa.

Canadian Auto Workers president Buzz Hargrove met with GM's chief executive Rick Wagoner in Detroit to plead the case for the plant, which employs 2,600 people.

Hargrove said he's disappointed and the union will now assess its options in the fight to stop the closure.

He said the union may now look at challenging GM through the Canadian Labour Board or may ask for arbitration.

The CAW said GM violated a two-week-old collective agreement by announcing the truck plant closure and workers are protesting at its Canadian headquarters.

GM has said it is simply responding to dropping demand for pickup trucks made at the plant.

A sad day indeed!

Beautiful Grandfather Clocks

Hallmark Cards Lays Off 200 Canadian Employees

Hot on the heels of the terrible news that GM will be closing its truck plant in Oshawa I just heard on the radio that Hallmark is laying off 200 Canadian employees from its Toronto area operation.

It appears that the pine cone peso (Canadian dollar) reaching par, and at times exceeding the USA dollar is finally starting to effect the Canadian manufacturing scene as jobs disappear to countries like Mexico where it is cheaper for these companies to operate.

It really is sad as the Hallmark building was a familiar sight to me for many years when I travelled along the 401.

Apparently the employees were told of the job cuts via a video from the president in their cafeteria.

Puppy Mill Busted In West Toronto

According to CTV News at Noon a Puppy Mill was busted earlier today in the Dundas and Roncesvalles area of Toronto. The pups that were to be sold at up to $500.00 bux are shitzu, and pug, both very popular breeds these days.

They along with their poor Mom were rescued from very disgusting conditions.

Puppy mills, and their brokers really make me ANGRY.

Here are some tips for buying a dog that should help you avoid puppy mills, and stop their profiteering off of the misery of living creatures.

DO NOT BUY FROM PET STORES.
I cannot stress that enough.

DO NOT Buy animals from internet classified sites. eBay has always wisely avoided supporting puppy mills by not allowing animals to be sold through them. Kudos to eBay!!!

DO NOT BUY your dog at a flea market or on the side of the road outside of vans.

Do consider animal rescue. All pure breeds are available through rescue, but I admit I am partial to mutts. :D

PetFinder
will hook you up with your new family member. It is easy to search and find great dogs right in your own neighbourhood!

If you must buy from a breeder:

Ask to see both parents of the pups, in person (the Mom for sure - all good breeder will allow for this, and not make up excuses why you cannot)

Ask to see the pup's litter mates, in person, not in just photos

Ask to see where the pup is living again go there, and see it in person

Ask for the name of the parents vet, and the name of the vet who checked the pups.

DO NOT allow for the dog to be shipped to you. You must go to him or her to accomplish exactly what I have listed above.

Since we do not have effective laws to deal with these shady businesses we as consumers are the only ones with the power to shut down these disgusting, and horrific operations by refusing to buy from them, and those who support them.

Property Management In Chicago

I was having a look at a website earlier this morning that details Connected Property Management's role as effective Illinois community association management and the need for honest, good quality service that benefits both the building owners, and the tenants.

I have never owned a rental unit before, but I have been on the other end as a renter, and therefore have a good understanding of how important the relationship between owners, and tenants is to the overall success of the rental agreement, and the importance of the role the property management team plays in that relationship.

Connected Property Management offers clients its expertise within Chicago association management. The website, which I spent time reading through this morning offers detailed information on how this company started out, what it has learned, and why the importance of an honest, cost effective Chicago Illinois condominium association along with much more. This company was started out by a fellow rental unit owner, and therefore brings that added bit of experience to the table in order to fully understand, and anticipate their clients needs.

If you have surfed on over to this page, and are looking for some good, solid info on condo rentals in chicago or apartments in chicago I have added these linkys in to help you get started. This site includes a property search as well as other tenant resources, and it is free to use! You can't beat that!

Color Changing LED Shower Head

I first read about this rather cool (in my opinion) item on one of my fave sites Gizmodo.

It is a color-changing LED shower head. And okay, I decided we need one. :p

Good news for me is that I can actually pick one of these up, and you can too over at ThinkGeek.

If you are looking for some cool gift ideas for the geeky Dad on your list go have a look through their website, and for those inventor-types out there they do pay for ideas (well good ones I hope) check their site for details.

The World's Largest Restaurant

Syria may already boast some of the world's best food, but now it can also claim the world's largest restaurant.

The BBC is reporting that the 6,014-seat Damascus Gate restaurant in Syria is now considered to be the largest restaurant in the world! Wow! I can only imagine the hurly-burly of the kitchen on days when it is even only 1/2 full! 88|

Here in the west we are conditioned not to think of Syria as a vacation spot, but for those interested in adventure, and in particular sites of historical, and archaeological importance it may just be worth considering Syria as a possible tourist destination.

I watched a travel doc on the Axis Of Evil as possible travel destinations that had been funded by the BBC. These travel spots included Iraq, (pre-war) North Korea, Cuba, and Syria, and out of all Syria not only looked quite friendly, but a lot safer than one may be led to believe.

Railings Projects & Purchasing

Are you currently working on a business or at home project that involves railings? Might this be something you will need info on in the future? If so, you will want to read the following blog entry I have whipped up for you as it just might save you some of your time, money, and definitely hassle.

BuyRailings.com is the most comprehensive online source that I have personally ever visited for all manner of railings from bar rails to foot rails, and every type of service rail imaginable. When I visited their website a bit earlier in the day today I can tell you that I was impressed by the volume of stock that they carry. They even have brackets, and fittings for speciality railing projects.

The BuyRailings.com website is very easy to use, and it is nicely laid out so as to be easy on the eyes, and simple to navigate. Each item is accompanied by nice larger sized photos so that you can see exactly what it is you will be purchasing. They also provide numerous contacts via phone or electronic in case you require further info prior to check out.

Shopping with them is not only secured, but handy as well because they accept different forms of payment, including all major credit cards, and my own fave PayPal!

General Motors Closing Oshawa Ontario Plants

I was listening to the radio this morning when I first heard that GM intends to permanently close its truck plants in Oshawa. Apparently in response angry General Motors employees have gathered outside the company's Canadian head office as I type this, and are saying they wouldn't leave until the company agrees to keep its truck assembly plant in Oshawa open.

Personally I can see how SUVs, and trucks are no longer a marketable vehicle in this economic climate, and age of impossible gas prices.

However, and where I am going to side with the GM workers is that our province recently forked over a ton of cash to this company in order for them to prevent permanent job losses. So where is my tax-paying money going then if the plants are to be closed?

Something we as Ontarians should think about as GMs decision will not only affect its employees, but the neighbourhood, other Oshawa area businesses as well. Feels like a slap in the face to all of us.

Hot Online Jewelry Designer

Now speaking of the bling, bling, I thought I would talk to you all about something a little more down to earth, and affordable than the 24k bicycle mentioned in my previous blog entry. :p

I had the opportunity of checking out a hot online jewelry designer and retailer, and I thought you ladies, and gents would definitely like to hear a bit about it.

Before I get into the particulars on the site, and company I want to say that I personally adore custom jewelry as both gifts that I give, and of course that I might receive. The ability to be able to give a unique, quality piece of jewelry in my opinion not only demonstrates how much you care, but also elevates the piece to family heirloom status.

The above is just one example of what you can achieve with AJ's Jewelry. Not only can you design a stunning piece of jewelry through them, but because they are the manufacturer you can save big bux on the cost as well.

The company specialise in both mens and womens custom jewelry so therefore if you are looking for an extra special Father's Day gift idea this might just be the perfect site for you to go have a look at.

Added benefits to using the site include excellent customer service, and a secured online shopping experience. It is also fun to just surf around their various categories, and see all the different jewelry items available. B)

Bicycle Bling Bling

Now there is some serious biking bling!!! According to the BBC this 24 carat gold bicycle, commissioned by the UK's Environmental Transport Association, is on sale for £9,500. That works out to almost $20,000 bux US. It does have an optional extra of a security guard, as bicycles over £4,000 cannot be insured.

Hmmm since it cannot be insured I'm not so certain I would want it anywhere around my neck of the woods, but hey its eco-friendly, and looks smashing to boot! Now if only I could afford it!

Doctor Who Action Figures

Surgical Weight Loss

The other day I was reading a newspaper article online about the growing concerns over North American obesity, and of course its associated health related issues such as diabetes, heart troubles, to name just two. It is scary to think about, particularly for those of us who are overweight.

I have struggled with yo-yo weight issues throughout my life, so I do greatly sympathise with people who are overweight, and perhaps are considering surgical weight loss procedures in order to help them gain a healthier weight, and body.

LAP BAND seems to be a popular choice for people these days, but I would caution everyone who considers it to make sure they are knowledgeable about what to expect, and that they seek the information, and advice from an expert source such as the one I have linked to for you.

Dr. Hadar Spivak, MD is considered a leading authority on the subject of surgical weight loss procedures. In fact Dr. Spivak's Texas based practice has been designated as "a center of excellence" by the ASBS => American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

These types of procedures can change a person's life for the better! However, you need to make sure you consult with an expert like Dr. Spivak to insure you receive the best possible care, and treatment. And because it is YOUR health you do deserve the very best in my humble opinion!

Exxon Cuts Funds To Climate Change Deniers

If there is one thing that really ticks me off as my regular readers here know it is those that deny humans have any involvement in the current climate changes the planet is going through. Therefore it was with great interest that I read that oil giant ExxonMobil has decided to stop funding lobby groups that question the science of climate change. They have also admitted that their support of these groups may have damaged the efforts of those seeking solutions to the global warming crisis.

You can read all about it here.

Hmmmm....I wonder what (money, money money) is behind this abrupt change of heart? Sorry, but I am very cynical as are most these days when it comes to big oil, and its motivations.

Finding The Right Credit Card

Good Morning My Peeps!

Just about everyone I know has at least one credit card in their wallet, and more than likely they in fact have several. I think that a lot of people do not think too much about them beyond have I reached my limit yet, and of course can I pay off the credit card bill at the end of the month. I think this generally loose way of thinking towards any type of credit is why so many people are fighting off massive debts, and getting themselves into credit troubles.

If you feel you fit into the category of people I have talked about above, or you are the opposite, and consider yourself a savvy shopper you will want to have a look what Credit Cards Club.com is offering.

If you have not been to the site before, you will find that it is very easy to use, and you can navigate quite easily to the different subsections from the main pages. There are sections for Student Credit Cards, Instant Approval Credit Cards, Rewards Credit Cards, and much more.

If you were wondering what my card of choice is that would be the Prepaid Credit Card which I have complete control over. These are also really good to help people who have a bad credit history for whatever reason to rebuild their ratings. You can get more information on these specific type of credit cards on the page I linked directly to.

It really pays off in the long run to compare all of these different cards, and find the one that would most work to your advantage, and benefit.

A Review Of The Furniture From Home Website

Good Afternoon My Peeps,

I have had the opportunity to check out an online furniture resource earlier this afternoon, and thought I would share some of my thoughts on the site with you.

Firstly if you are looking for some bargain prices on furniture for sale online they are good site to check out in my opinion.

Above you see an example of one of the bedroom furniture sets they are offering. They have a huge variety to choose from. I just wanted to show off a photo that was most reflective of my own personal taste.

They pretty much have everything you would need to completely outfit your home including an entire section that is devoted to Home office furniture.

I found the website to be well laid out, and easy to navigate. If you are looking for some hot new home furnishings you can have a look at the Furniture From Home website by clicking on one of the links I have added in for you. :D

Great savings, a great way to reuse, and recycle, and best of all portions of all the proceeds go directly to breast cancer research!

Yard Sale Treasures

This is my latest yard sale find that I purchased for $2.00 bux. Regular readers may know that I collect wooden masks from around the globe, so this was definitely a treasure for me.

This will be my little project over the next few weeks as I fix it up, and hopefully restore it to its once former glory. I'll post a pic when I'm done. :D

I believe the mask may just be Indonesian, it does have a small wax seal (I tried to take a photo of it, but none turned out to well) and I cannot make out what it says.

Anyone that wants to take a guess on this mask's origin please do leave me a comment.

A Review Of AdmissionsEssays

Admissions Essays.com is a service provider of essay critiquing and guidance. One of their areas of expertise are law school personal statements so it was with much enthusiasm that I had a look at their website a little earlier this evening.

Those of you who may be regular readers of this, and my personal blog will probably already be quite familiar with my middle daughter's desire to pursue a degree in law, hence her nickname "the lawyer" here, and on my other site.

Law school is highly competitive I am finding out. It makes sense though in that it is to a degree a sought after career choice, and their are only so many available slots within the various schools for students to be able to apply to never mind actually be accepted for.

This is where a service such as Admissions Essays.com may really help in giving prospective law students an edge over the competition. They provide advice, writing tips, model essay development, proof-reading etc. They have even had some positive media exposure through the prestigious Yale Daily News, along with the LA Times, and others.

If this sounds like the type of service that you or someone you know might be interested in please do visit their website for further details, and direct contact information. Just give some clicky love to that link I have added into this entry for you.

Bring On The Strawberries

I have always LOVED strawberries, but as an ex-smoker the following news item really got my attention. Apparently fruit compounds may stave off lung cancer in smokers. The study also made mention of black, and green tea.

Here is a snippet:

People who smoke but consume three or more servings of fruit and vegetables and regularly drink green or black tea may be keeping lung cancer at bay, new research suggests.

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles compared the eating habits of 558 people who had lung cancer versus 837 people who did not have the disease. They found that those who ate large quantities of fruit, which contains components called flavonoids, had a lower risk of developing lung cancer.

People who ate three servings of vegetables a day had 1.6-fold greater odds against developing lung cancer than those who didn't consume three servings, according to the study. Those who consumed three or more servings of fruit had one-fold greater odds against developing lung cancer.

Drinking one cup of tea a day meant study participants had 0.8-fold greater odds against developing cancer.

Flavonoids give fruit and vegetables their colours and have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The ones identified in the study as most protective were:

* Catechin, found in strawberries; green, black teas.
* Kaempferol, found in Brussels sprouts and apples.
* Quercetin, found in beans, onions, apples.

In the study, the median intake of total flavonoids among controls was approximately 60 milligrams per day.

The study appears in the May issue of the journal Cancer.

Full CBC Article Here

Now there is nothing in heck that would convince me to go back to smoking, but I do think that this is some great dietary advice for anyone.

The World Is Filled With Geminis

Yeah, you know who you are, people born in May through June. It just so happens that in this past week alone I have had occasion to send four people I personally know birthday greetings. Yes, I said four! And guess what, my hubby's big 41st birthday is this coming Saturday....that makes my total five. Oh, and there will be two more Gemini folk to buy at least cards for in the coming two weeks.

We are a family of five who are quite social therefore birthday card packs are a very handy, and economical way to make certain everyone on our own lists are remembered, and receive a greeting.

The above artsy birthday greeting card is my absolute fave amongst the CardsDirect assortment of birthday cards, although they offer a good variety with a fun balloon covered one, and a classic card that would suit well for business colleagues.

These greeting cards are high quality, and because you are purchasing them in bulk you can save a lot of money over time. Think of it ithis way one standard greeting card bought alone is usually around the $5.00 mark so in my case that would mean $35 bux in a two week span! By purchasing as a pack the cost lowers to only $1.50 per card meaning a savings of almost $25.00 bux!! Cool eh!

Hmmmm after Gemini season there is a lull for us until August and then we have the Leos to contend with one niece, two uncles, one auntie, oh and three friends....

Watch Out For Canned Items

Hey my peeps! Remember I blogged a bit about the issue of a chemical known as bisphenol A contained in items such as baby bottles getting a ban here in Canada. The problem is apparently far worse or more widespread then initially reported with this nasty chemical turning up in canned items as well. In the canned items it has been found in apple juice, which really ticks me off because the main user of this type of product will of course be children. Here is a snippet of a news item on it:

Canned foods sold in Canada reportedly contain up to double the levels of bisphenol A that was found in plastic baby and water bottles, according to results conducted for The Globe and Mail and CTV.

In April, Health Canada indicated it planned to add bisphenol A to its list of toxic substances as a precaution, prompting consumers to shun products containing the chemical.

The highest amounts found in the testing of 14 canned goods, bought at Toronto stores, were in tomato sauce.

Other products on the list included Allen's apple juice, Heinz tomato juice and Labatt's ice beer.

Yeah, even beer is affected. Nasty!

Protecting Your iPhone

I have to admit to one of my biggest concerns being the smart consumer that I am in regards to the iPhone is it's durability. Consumers Driving The Auto Industry Literally!

A green consumer who tends to take public transport like myself actually feels really good by the news that Ford is concentrating heavily on smaller cars.

The Ford Edge crossover vehicle is built at the Oakville assembly plant. It's cute eh!

Is it any wonder with gas prices ridiculously high, and the environment rapidly becoming a major concern to the masses that the auto industry is being forced by consumers to adapt to their needs? Read on:

Bad news for Ford workers making pick up trucks and SUVs in North America is good news for the Ford workforce in Oakville.

Ford is cutting overall production by 15 per cent in the current quarter and is putting the brakes on its gas guzzling pick up trucks and SUVs as buyers turn to crossovers and small cars.

Sales of the crossover in North America are up more than 20 per cent this year and the Ford Edge which is built in Oakville is one of the biggest sellers, auto analyst Dennis DesRosiers told 680News.

"They look like a truck but they ride like a car and they're very hot. Oakville has one of the better ones right now with the Ford Edge and they're about to come out this fall with the Ford Flex vehicle," said DesRosiers.

The Power Of A Good Vacuum

Not all vacuums are created equal! Trust me I know, I have bought my fair share of duds in the past, and cursed every last cent I spent on them when I had no choice, but to haul them away to the rubbish pile. Sometimes my peeps it just pays to invest in a really good quality product like a Dyson vacuum that will last a very long time, and do the job they were intended to do without hassles.

I have two dog, three cats, a bunny, oh yeah and did I mention the three kids??? In our house a good vacuum is a must have item!

1AwsomeVac is a handy online shop for different models of Dyson vacuums at great prices. If you have not heard of them before you may just want to surf on over, and check them out. The site is well designed, they carry products in varying price ranges to suit just about every budget, they have a great reputation for customer service, and shipping, and the best part is that they take my favourite method of payment => PayPal! Will It Blend? - Guitar Hero III

If you have young teens in the house chances are you have heard of Guitar Hero III.

If so, then the above video clip may just make you snigger or wince at the amount of cash being wasted. :p

As far as guitar based video games go, Guitar Hero easily cracks the top three. Unfortunately they left the Beach Boys off the game, and you know what that means...or maybe not! I was sent this video clip in an email this morning, and this was the first I had heard of this series.

Ladder Meet Ironing Board

I came across this rather odd item over at Gizmodo, which is one of the coolest sites for strange techy stuff etc. Definitely a fun website to explore!

But getting back to the ladder - ironing board thingamaboober....yeah I too realise that it has an upside as far as space-saving goes because it is multifunctional....but I can honestly say my experiences with that sort of thing baby highchair that doubles as a dresser, or baby stroller that pops out into a playpen => why is it always baby merchandise?! => have to date always turned out rather poorly. Call me a traditionalist, but I like my products to serve one purpose for the most part.

What do you think? Am I off base with this or do you too find something almost sinister about this contraption too?

International Phone Cards As A Gift Idea

One of the suggestions I recently made for a Mother's Day gift was phone cards, and I think I will definitely be including them as an option for Father's Day (for me traditionally the harder of the two to buy gifts for).

If this sounds like a good idea to you or perhaps you want to save some cash on your own long distance calling let me hook you up with GetMeCallingCards.com. They carry a large variety of phone cards from all of the big vendors, and save you some serious coin.

For instance have a look at some of these rates for India via India calling cards. Not bad eh! And that is just one, I believe they carry cards for over 150 countries. Cool! B)

Credit Card Reports & Articles

I had the opportunity to check out a website that provides consumers with a series of credit card articles and reports in order to make informed decisions in regards to their use.

I have found over the years that my own knowledge was lacking in regards to credit issues, which is why I believe in the past I have had some credit troubles. If you feel the same way then it might be worth checking out the site via the linky I have added in for you in the paragraph above.

For instance I was just reading through a press release that offered up information on profit generating credit cards, which I found of personal interest as I am working towards building a home based business and would like to offer potential purchasers the ability to pay by credit card.

Here is a copy of that press release:

Nowadays the ability to pay with plastics is a vital point in customers' purchasing decision. No wonder, as customers prefer not to carry annoying cash in their pockets. They have got a nice alternative – credit cards that will smoothen the daily finance management. Most retail merchants take this fact into consideration accept credit cards. And it is a wise decision. The fact is that people always look for places where they can use their rewards points or low interest rates. More than that, people prefer those retailers that offer the best credit card services.

So, no matter what kind of business (offline or online) you have, you are sure to have more sales boosts and more clients if you let credit card payments. And you can lose your potential customers if you don't have a credit card payment system set up.

The contribution of all your clients to the development of your business is great. So, it is very important that your business partners and your clients can make payments with debit cards or credit cards. In your turn you will have a stable source of revenues that will ensure the success of your business. Thus, profit generating credit cards can be an ideal tool in developing a thriving business.

Overall I found this site to be very easy to use. There is also a lot of information on different types of credit cards, credit scoring, and what that truly is, and how it can affect you (something I personally was ignorant of until a few years ago).

Another thing about this online library that impressed me was the book recommendations for further reading that included topics on financial planning, investments, small business, credit repair, and retirement planning.

I genuinely enjoyed my visit to the unioncreditreports.com site, and have bookmarked it for my own personal use.

Knowledge is power.

Happy Queen Victoria Day

Just want to wish all of my fellow Canadian bloggers, and those surfing the blogosphere today a very happy, and safe Queen Victoria Day!

Victoria Day firework display from Ontario Place, Toronto

Queen Vickie's Day is also referred to by some as the May Two-Four weekend in part because it usually falls on May 24th, and because a two-four is Canadian slang for a case of 24 bottles of beer, a common packaging of the drink in Canada, and a common purchase of those planning to celebrate the weekend. Since I am a tea-totaller these days I'll hoist up an nice iced green tea brew to her Majesty. :p

The Scoop On A Online Car Rental Service

Being urbanites we do not own a car of our own. We actually prefer the savings of public transport, and we rely on rentals for weekend getaways etc. The freedom, and ability offered by a good rent a car service can save you a ton of cash $$$$$, and I thought I'd give my fave peeps the scoop on the Advantage.com car rental website.

Firstly, I LOVE Advantage because it is committed to going green, and my own money always goes to those companies that are working towards a better environment. B)

However, there are other good reasons that you should surf on over, and check them out. They have some very good bargains on cheap, cheap, car rentals, goodly terms, and their site is very easy to use. They even offer a special program for people like us that can be considered frequent renters. How cool is that?! B)

Testing Chemicals Found In Everyday Products

According to news reports, the Canadian federal government will soon publish its recommendations for the second batch of chemicals that have undergone a safety review as part of the chemicals management plan.

The 16 chemicals have been used in things such as chewing gum, baby bottle nipples, silicone gel implants, shaving creams, lipstick, paints, waxes, sealants, drugs, textiles and linoleum.

Some are suspected cancer-causing substances and reproductive toxins.

A toxic declaration would start the process that could lead to a ban in certain products, like Bisphenol-A in baby bottles.

Health Canada may have to reverse a decision made two years ago to allow women to get silicone implants if key chemicals found in them are declared toxic.

In regards to the latter I was honestly very surprised when I read that they had been allowed again after so many women suffered adverse health because of these.

Business Cash Advance - Website Review

Good morning my peeps!

I have been rather busy this morning checking out a website that offers its users the opportunity to learn more about, and apply for a Business Cash Advance.

Let us start off this review of the website with a screen shot of the company's main page.

Merchant Resources International

Merchant Resources International offers business cash advances to merchants that process credit cards as a form of payment with a small percentage going back as a fee for services. It is not to be confused with a business loan website.

As you can hopefully see from the screen capture above the website is designed to be user-friendly by being simplistic, and not overly flashy => something that I personally prefer.

Information that might be required by the user is easily accessed right from the main page through the FAQs. These FAQs include business requirements needed in order to be accepted.

Overall I was impressed by the level of information provided, client support listed, and ease of the application form. In my opinion it is worth checking out further.

If you would prefer to listen to a pre-recorded message that highlights this service you may do so by calling this phone number +18006910152

It Pays To Shop Around

Mama was right! It really does pay to shop around....

On Mother's Day I picked up a really cool new Canon scanner/printer/photocopier for around $50 bux, which for what I was getting was a very good bargain. The scanner requires a USB cable, and since I did not have a spare I thought I'd buy one from Future Shop. I asked a sales clerk at the store for one, and he brought one back with a price tag that read almost as much as the scanner! Wrong I said! And the snippy salesman said that is what they cost. Again, I said no way, and left the store.

Later that day I dropped by my local Dollarama, a dollar or one buck store as they are also called, and picked up a USB cable that works perfect with the scanner for less than 7 bux.

It pays to shop around.....in this case around thirty dollars worth!

Employer Snitch List?

Workers accused of theft or damage could soon find themselves blacklisted on a register to be shared among employers. It will be good for profits but campaigners say innocent people could find it impossible to get another job.

Here is a snippet from the BBC:

To critics it sounds like a scenario from some Orwellian nightmare.

An online database of workers accused of theft and dishonesty, regardless of whether they have been convicted of any crime, which bosses can access when vetting potential employees.

But this is no dystopian fantasy. Later this month, the National Staff Dismissal Register (NSDR) is expected to go live.

Organisers say that major companies including Harrods, Selfridges and Reed Managed Services have already signed up to the scheme.

Full BBC Article Here

What could possibly go wrong?....dripping sarcasm.... This is a dumb idea in my opinion. Who can honestly say that they have never worked for anyone that could for whatever reason abuse such a thing. Without an actual criminal charge this is wide open to abuse by less that ethical employers.

My Mama always says that it pays to save, and since she has gained financial freedom at retirement age with a paid off house too boot I think it is pretty wise to listen up to what she has got to say!

I had the opportunity to check into the WaMu Savings Account earlier today, and thought I would share what I have learned about it, and pass along my own thoughts to you.

Here is a screen shot:

Firstly the site is well designed, and very user friendly. They offer their customers convenient, free online banking 24/7 that includes free electronic statements. Cool!

They offer some other pretty cool benefits in my opinion, and these include an overdraft transfer service, which will help to eliminate the possibility of a bounced cheque. They also offer easy access to ATMs around the country.

If you are thinking about opening up an online savings account you might just want to get more detailed information on a WaMu account. You can do so by clicking on the linky I have added in for your convenience above. You can also give them a toll-free call at +18007887000 in order to speak directly with one of their customer service reps. The application process only takes a short few minutes. :D

Last Minute Cheap Mothers Day Gift Ideas

There are only 2 shopping days left until Mother's Day, and if you are still struggling for some gift ideas never fear because I have a few last minute, and in some cases very inexpensive gift ideas.

1. Give the gift of you. The best gift is often the gift of your time. As a Mom I can tell ya the best present for me is when I get to spend some time with my kids. Visit Mom, plan an outing you both might enjoy like seeing a movie, offer to help her out with household chores etc.

2. Give flowers. An old stand-by that I personally would much rather receive while I'm alive as opposed to sending them to my funeral when I'm dead. I think most Moms would agree with that.

3. Give the gift of food. Yummy baked goods, a nice coffee cake from the local bakery.

4. Give gift certificates that Mom can use at her fave shops either on person or online.

5. Give a pre-paid phone card. This is especially thoughtful if Mom has relatives that live out of town or overseas.

6. Give a framed photo of family.

Hope these help, and if you have further suggestions please do leave them in the comments.

Some Good News For A Change

Some good news regarding the USA economy for a change via US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

According to a BBC news report Paulson has said that "the worst of the credit crunch may have passed." He went on to say, the financial market turmoil that has led to massive losses at Wall Street banks had eased, and we're closer to the end of this than the beginning." I sincerely hope he is correct as the long term effects of an economic down turn in the US are without a doubt affecting Canadians as well.

He did acknowledge that Americans were still facing a tough time in the months ahead.

Umbrella Supermarket - A Review

Good late morning my peeps! I say late because I spent part of this happy hump-day having a look at Umbrella Supermarket, which is an online resource for umbrella companies.

For those of you readers that may need some clarification, an umbrella company is "ready-made limited company that you use as & when needed. There are no long-term commitments and you only pay when you use it," as defined by the Umbrella Supermarket website. That is the simple explanation, for more detailed information on umbrella companies, who may benefit from them, and who may not, alternative etc please do surf on over via that linky above as this is provided for with the Umbrella Supermarket website, and easily accessed from their main page.

Umbrella Supermarket offers a free membership that gives the user access to reviews of the top one hundred umbrella companies, and rankings. Sub categories of the site include a discussion forum where users can interact, and discuss relevant topics in a friendly, moderated atmosphere.

My overall impression of this website was that it is well designed, with easy user navigation in mind. The information provided is useful for a contractor or an agent to make informed decisions in regards to umbrella companies. I should also mention that they have a money-saving feature as well, just click on their Special Offers page once you are signed up.

Microsoft Drops Bid For Yahoo

The latest bit of news I have read on the proposed takeover of Yahoo by MS states that "Microsoft says it's dropping its three-month-old bid to buy Yahoo because the two sides can't agree on an acceptable sale price.

Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer says in a letter sent to Yahoo that the software maker was willing to pay $47.5 billion for Yahoo. That's $33 per share.

Ballmer says Yahoo insisted that Microsoft pay at least $53 billion, or $37 per share.

Microsoft's original offer was $44.6 billion, or $31 per share."

It certainly would have been interesting to see what a merger of these two giants would have produced. Oh well......I'm pretty neutral about it..... :|

Student Credit Card Options

As some of you my regular readers and peeps already know my middle daughter will be moving away to complete her secondary education, and hopefully law degree in the coming months. With this in mind the topic of prepaid phone cards for her to keep in touch, and perhaps a pre-paid credit card for possible emergencies etc has been discussed at length.

In regards to the latter we have looked at various student credit card offers and found some to be far better as far as rates go then others. As I always tend to say around here ... it really pays to shop around!

StudentCreditCards.com is pretty much exactly what its name implies, it is an online resource that specialises in student credit cards. The site features various cards, outlines their features, and benefits, rates etc, for prospective users to compare.

Once a user has settled on a card that they feel would be best for them they can then submit an easy application online for that particular card. It is a pretty hassle-free process, that is free to do, and takes very little time.

If you would like to review some of the student credit card offers that are highlighted on this website, just use the link to click over, and get some further info.

The product is the Dora the Explorer 100 per cent cotton, short-sleeve two-piece pajama -- a white top with Dora print and light-pink pant.

It has a lot number of 71456 and the pajamas come in sizes 2, 3 and 3x.

About 300 sets were sold in Canada at Sears stores.

Consumers can call 1-866 593-1717 during business hours for information about getting a refund.

Time To Clean That Work Station

If you are eating at your desk you may just want to skip reading this right now, and come back later.

Did you know that most office keyboards are dirtier than a toilet? It's true...and my old colleagues used to laugh at me for carrying a bottle of Lysol, and hand sanitiser around with me.

:p

Read on:

Some computer keyboards harbour more harmful bacteria than a toilet seat, research has suggested.

Consumer group Which? said tests at its London offices found equipment carrying bugs that could cause food poisoning.

Out of 33 keyboards swabbed, four were regarded as a potential health hazard and one harboured five times more germs than one of the office's toilet seats.

Microbiologist Dr Peter Wilson said a keyboard was often "a reflection of what is in your nose and in your gut".

Full BBC Article Here

Further on in the article it goes on to state that women's keyboards were three times more likely to be germy! Ew!

Perhaps it is time that companies look at ways to providing optimum cleaning solutions for the office equipment in order to prevent illness by keyboard.

I'll be blogging about some deep cleaning solutions, and products in the very near future.

Smell Ya Later!

Already being billed as the evolution of text messaging.... the technology for scented text messages has been patented in Germany. Read on:

Two German companies have patented technology for sending scented text messages on mobile phones.

Partners in the project, the Institute of Sensory Analysis and Marketing Consultancy in Göttingen (ISI) and the Oberhausen-based specialist for interactive services Convisual, announced the patent for the smart card-sized chip on Tuesday.

“People will be able to send the smell of the beach and sunshine to their friends when they’re on vacation,” Convisual spokesperson Sandra Wiewiorra told The Local on Wednesday.

Paradise is exactly what I think of when I think of St. Thomas in the US. Virgin Islands. Sigh.....

The above photo, which depicts Magens Bay Beach, St. Thomas, USA VI really does not do this place justice, but you do have to admit that the beach, and sparkling water look heavenly.

If you have ever considered owning a piece of this paradise there is a terrific online resource for St Thomas Real Estate that you can get to by just giving some clicky love to the linky I have added into this entry for you.

The REMAX Dream Properties website is very easy to use, and is designed to give you up to the minute information on their services. There are individual sections for potential buyers, and sellers, an online guide to St. Thomas, and current featured properties, that include photos. The photos are one of those added touches that make this site a pleasure to visit in my opinion. :D

So there you have it, all of the info you need to make informed choices in regards to St Thomas Real Estate, and the Islands in a one-stop, easy to utilise internet location. Now how cool is that?!

Cheers!

Green Gables, Cavendish, PEI, Canada

Green Gables, part of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historic Site, has become famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic tale of fiction, Anne of Green Gables. In real life, this farm was the home of David Jr. and Margaret Macneill, who were cousins of Montgomery's grandfather. Shortly after her death in 1942, Lucy Maud Montgomery was recognized by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada as being a person of national historic significance, and a monument and plaque were erected at Green Gables in 1948. For further info please visit the Green Gables website.

Maxwell House Gives Back

Hmmm......I have been doing a lot of coffee related posts lately...I wonder if this has something to do with my decision to cut back to one cup a day????

I wanted to bring Maxwell House to your attention today, not for their caffeine boosting product (which I love) but because of their Random Act Of Good Campaign.

As opposed to spending the big bux on yet another commercial or ad run they have decided to give back by funding inner city children's programs, amongst other charities. For further info give that linky some clicky love :)

In my opinion I think companies that give back by funding, and promoting community charities, and or display a strong green initiative should be supported by the consumer. And on that note I think I'll go grab a cup of Joe. :p

Hey the weekend is almost here, and you've gotta live a little. Have a great weekend!

Poor Taste Is An Understatement

...when it comes to the Adolph Hitler doll.....

A toy maker in the Ukraine has sparked outrage after creating toy dolls of Adolf Hitler. The BBC has a video report here

The Fuhrer comes along with two sets of clothes, pre genocide, and of course during. Ew!

What next Joseph Stalin action set, Khmer Rouge cuddly toys????

I admit that when I first saw this news item I sniggered, who wouldn't this is just way too absurd, and in very poor taste in my opinion. Shame on whoever thought this was even remotely a good idea.

PayPal Just Got Better

I don't know about you, but I tend to shop exclusively with online shops that use PayPal. I prefer the security PayPal offers, and now that they are aggressively going after phishing attempts I feel even better about it. Read on:

Web payment firm Paypal has said it will block "unsafe browsers" from using its service as part of wider anti-phishing efforts.

Customers will first be warned that a browser is unsafe but could then be blocked if they continue using it.

Paypal said it was "an alarming fact that there is a significant set of users who use very old and vulnerable browsers such as Internet Explorer 4".

Phishing attacks trick users into handing over sensitive data.

Paypal said some users were still using Internet Explorer 3 , released more than 10 years ago. It lacks many of the security and safety features needed to protect users from phishing and other online attacks.

Hyundai Recalls Sonatas

Hyundai is recalling more than 390,000 Sonata vehicles in the United States and 31,000 in Canada due to a problem with its air bag system.

The recall affects 2006-2008 Sonata passenger cars equipped with an advanced air bag system in the front passenger seat.

The system disables the front passenger seat's front air bag when it detects the presence of a child restraint system or a small child in the seat.

Hyundai says it received some complaints that the system was misclassifying a small adult as a child and shutting off the passenger air bag. But the car company says it's not aware of any injuries as a result of the defect.

A spokeswoman for Hyundai in Canada says the company has not yet set a date for the start of the replacement program but it should be near the end of May or early June.

A Shitty Cup Of Coffee

I have had some pretty shitty cups of coffee in my day, but this is ridiculous......

Here is a snippet from the BBC:

A gourmet coffee blended from animal droppings is being sold at a London department store for £50 per cup.

Jamaican Blue Mountain and the Kopi Luwak bean are used to create Caffe Raro which is thought to be the most expensive cup of coffee in the world.

Kopi Luwak beans are eaten, then passed, by the cat-like Asian palm civit, and sell for £324 a kilogram.

All profits from sales of the coffee at Peter Jones in Sloane Square in April will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Employers Crack Down On Web Use

According to a 680 News item this morning, more and more employers are putting their foot down when it comes to personal web use on the job.

Here is a snippet:

Has your employer put up red-flags when it comes to accessing the Internet at work?

Well, it's a growing trend, as some companies have begun to crack down on employees using company time to surf the Web.

It makes sense that companies want employees to do their job as they pay the salaries; however, the move may have potential employees thinking twice about job openings.

In Wednesday's Globe and Mail, it reported that 65 per cent of American firms surveyed have installed some form of Internet road-blocks to also include Web-mail and gaming activities.

The IT departments said some of these could open the company up to an Internet virus.

The negative side is that companies may increasingly find a tougher time finding new workers, as the tech-savvy younger generation has been so accustomed to Web access.

Personally, I think that employers will need to lighten up a bit when it comes to web use, provided of course that their employees are keeping up with their duties. I do agree that MSN chats, Facebook, and other social networking sites should be left for home though as these can be disruptive. When I work on the sites or blogs I always turn off any type of chat etc.

Thoughts?

Debt Collection Services

Oddly enough, for some readers to learn about your blog mistress perhaps is that I have at one time or another in my life, been on both ends of debt collection. As some of you already know at one time I did work within the accounting department of a medium sized company, and when I was much younger did get into some credit troubles.

However, I am far from an expert on the topic, and therefore was quite interested to check out the American Profit.net website earlier this very afternoon.

This Debt Collection Services website is very informative, and provides excellent information on debt recovery via articles such as Collections 101, and Tools To Reduce Bad Debt. I found both to be well written, and more importantly perhaps easily understandable for a newbie.

The site itself is well designed, and I found it to be very easy to navigate. There are sections for various types of industries, including dental, financial, and schools to name just a few. As well there are specific sections for your role within these industries.

You can have a look at the site, and read through their company FAQs by clicking on the link I have provided for you within this entry.

Ford Sells Jaguar

Ford has sold Jaguar, and Land Rover to the company that builds the cheapest autos => Tata Motors of India. Read on:

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. is selling its storied Jaguar and Land Rover businesses to India's Tata Motors Ltd. in a deal that will net the U.S. automaker US$1.7 billion - roughly a third of the price it paid for the two luxury brands.

The deal announced Wednesday will expand the Indian carmaker's reach around the globe and give Jaguar and Land Rover badly needed capital to update and expand their product lines.

The sale had been in the works for months as cash-strapped Ford sought money to fund its turnaround plan.

Tata will pay $2.3 billion for the British brands, but Ford will pay about $600 million into the Jaguar-Land Rover pension fund when the deal closes, Tata's statement said.

Online Poker Sites

Good afternoon my peeps! Are you a serious online gamer? Perhaps you may be mildly interested in the topic of online poker? If so, please do read on as today I am reviewing a review site of Online Poker Sites!

The site that I am reviewing today provides the latest news, and information on United Kingdom poker sites along with US Poker Sites (or sites that will allow American based players).

Internet-Poker.co.uk/ is well designed in my own humble opinion and quite easy to use. It is not overly flashy, (something I do not appreciate) and it is jam packed with content (something I do want)! The reviews they provide on both PokerStars, and FullTilt Poker were quite informative. I have not played either of these online poker rooms, but thanks to the write-ups Internet-Poker.co.uk/ I have a better idea of what to expect, what specials, and promotions are being offered, and even screen shots. Now, how cool is that! B)

It was a pleasure to visit, and review this online resource this afternoon. I feel that anyone who would like to learn more should surf on over via one of the links I have provided for you. Like I said, the site is easy to use, and if you are into online poker there will definitely be games over there that will interest you! :D

La Gioconda, Leonardo da Vinci, circa 1503–1506 Musée du Louvre, Paris

Good morning my peeps! For those of you who celebrate it, I would like to wish you a very happy Easter day, and weekend. I am not a Christian, but we did celebrate Easter as children, and it is a tradition I kept within our home when my own kids were young.

This morning I had a look at the website of a company that provides expert services in Art Storage, and Art Transportation.

Firstly, the Mind's Eye website in itself is a visual treat. Have a look by clicking on the linky in the paragraph above. I also found the content, and information provided within the pages of this site to be informative, and useful. The topic of art storage is not one that I am overly familiar with on a personal level, but I do feel far better informed after reading through the Mind's Eye site.

While there I also noted that this company has been given a nod by Chubb, my own insurer, which adds to the fact you are dealing with experts.

If you would like further information on the services provided just surf on over, and fill out the short request pricing form. You will be contacted by one of the Mind's Eye professionals to discuss your needs.

PediaCol Warning & Recall

Information On Selling Endowments

Good morning my peeps! Today I am reviewing a website that provides information on how to Sell Endowments quickly, and with a minimum of hassle, and a maximum of profit. Sounds interesting doesn't it! Goodly, now read on.....

I surfed on over to the Endowment Express website, and was immediately struck by the fact that it provides a wealth of information on the topic of selling endowments, including a detailed Frequently Asked Questions section. After reading this particular page I had a much better sense of why some people choose to Sell Endowments, and exactly what would be involved in doing so. I definitely was left with the impression that I was dealing with experts.

Another feature of the website that I explored was the quote form, which was user friendly, and appeared quite simple to fill out. Endowment Express also quite clearly states that the end user is under absolutely no obligation to accept any of the quotes they are offered. In my opinion this is a good informational tool, and again because you are under no obligation it is risk free. B)

You can check out Endowment Express through the web via the links I've added into this blog entry or call them up toll-free in the UK at 0800 091 1913 to speak with a live person.

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Some Guinness was spilled on the barroom floor
when the pub was shut for the night.
Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse

He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar,

Historic Pop Culture Items To Be Auctioned Off

Rolls-Royce Corniche

This weekend, collectors and others alike can go to the Palms for an auction.

If you are willing to shell out thousands, even millions of dollars you could own the gun used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald or the hat worn by "The Wicked Witch of the West".

Action News reporter Tiffani Sargent has more on what others items are up on the auction block.

"There must be 100 things in these roughly 1000 items that would qualify as a star attraction in any museum or privately owned collection in the world," explained Arlan Ettinger.

They are items that are the finest in pop culture.

"That whip and holy grail came from the Indiana Jones series," said Ettinger.

Among the items are several reminders of our country's past.

"This is the first FBI badge ever created and it was J. Edgar Hoover's," explained Ettinger.

All of this owned by one man, a Florida real estate developer named Anthony Pugliese.

"With his passions now shifted, he has decided to let it go," said Ettinger.

Among all the movie memorabilia, you will find the premiere piece of this collection: the gun used by Jack Ruby to kill accused presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.

"It is not beautiful, it is not joyful to be sure, but it changed, to a certain degree, life as we know it," said Ettinger.

Pugliese paid about a quarter of a million dollars to Ruby's family 20 years ago.

Bids for the gun will probably start at about a million.

"This beautiful Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible was owned by none other than Frank Sinatra," explained Ettinger.

The car has a license plate that says it all, "Blue Eyes".

The majority of this collection has a Hollywood feel, from the older genre there is the hat worn by The Wicked Witch of the West.

"It is the hat she melted in," explained Ettinger.

Al Pacino's automatic weapon from scarface is also up for bidding.

Another item is the Shakespeare bust that opens at the chin to reveal the secret buttons for the bat cave.

The entire collection expected to generate in the millions of dollars.

Pugliese plans to use the proceeds of the auction to build an eco - sustainable city in Central Florida.

Bidding starts today!

The Gingerbread War

Gingerbread soldiers

According to the BBC a gingerbread war erupts in Cumbria over who has the rights to the famous Grasmere gingerbread name. Read on:

Sarah Nelson's first sold the product to tourists 150 years ago and now the owners want to trademark the name.

But rival seller Steve Bell from the Riverside Cafe said he has also produced the sweet for years and losing the right to sell it would be "unfair".

Even the local Lib Dem MP Tim Farron has got involved claiming branding the product was "excessive".

Alan Air, spokesman for Sarah Nelson's, said: "This is a small family business with a lot of integrity.

"There are precedents like Yorkshire Tea and Newcastle Brown Ale - they are quality products that need to be protected from unscrupulous people trying to trade off their reputation."

But rival seller Mr Bell responded: "I believe the aim of the trademark is to create a monopoly.

Custom Printed Hats

Good Afternoon My Peeps!

Today, let us talk about swag. If you are unfamiliar with the term "swag" it quite literally means promotional merchandise, and it can include hats, t-shirts, and other assorted trinkets, and doodads. These items are usually given out for free in order to promote a company, brand, or even a special event.

Custom Hats
like the one pictured above are a fun way to reward customers, or publicise an event. The hats are eye-catching, and the sky's the limit as to how creative you can get with them.

Above is another example in a different colour of the types of custom hats that can be printed up for you.

I had a look at the VistaPrint.co.uk website earlier on this afternoon (that is where the images you see above come from). The site is well designed, and easy for potential clients to navigate through. As well as the hats they have several other great promotional items that you can customise, and order.

I found that their prices are competitive, and they offer customers a safe, and secured online shopping experience. If you are in the market for swag surf on over, and check out their website, and current promotions!

Just picture one of these hats with the Nuttin But' logo .... coolio! B)

Tuesdays with Morrie

I am currently re-reading the classic Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson

Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it.

For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago.

Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger?

Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final “class”: lessons in how to live.

Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world.

If you have not read it already you can grab a copy from my online bookshop for as little as $1.99 US. Just click on the link or image above.

Aspartame Poisoning

Normally, I am nuttin' but pimp around here, but I wanted to share this with you my readers. I used to use products containing artificial sweeteners in order to control my weight, and in fact it did nothing positive for me. My diagnosis of Graves disease came hot on the heels of my diet kick where I cut out natural sugar all together for this crap. When I told my doctor about my dieting he told me to stopping ingesting anything with artificial sweetener in it immediately! I do genuinely feel better without it despite my thyroid condition that may or may not have been caused by aspartame.

"Consumers are not being told the entire truth about the long-term dangers of using artificial chemical sweeteners. Have you considered the fact that chemical sweeteners may be at the root of many unexplained disease symptoms that puzzle your doctor?

According to research referenced in the book, "giving sugar-free chemicals to your children or using them during pregnancy may be harmful to a child's emotional and physical maturation and to the normal development of a fetus."

Please stop using this product, and read Sweet Poison - The Book or check out the site for useful information on Aspartame poisoning, and how it is destroying the good health of millions! And very nearly my own....

Mohamed Al Fayed Claims Of Murder

According to the BBC Mohamed al Fayed has declared that Diana, Princess of Wales and his son Dodi Fayed were "murdered", as he gave evidence at their inquest.

It was among the first words he told the jury at the central London hearing.

He began by stating he would "make no allegations" and said he was simply declaring his beliefs about how the couple died.

But then he immediately told the court: "Princess Diana also told me personally before and during the holiday we shared in July 1997 of her fears.

"She told me that she knew Prince Philip and Prince Charles were trying to get rid of her."

Mr al Fayed insists the Paris car crash that killed Dodi, Diana and their driver, Henri Paul, on August 31, 1997 was the work of MI6 at the behest of the Duke of Edinburgh.

He claims that Diana was killed because she was pregnant with Dodi's child and about to become engaged to his son.

The Harrods boss also believes the Establishment could not accept an Egyptian Muslim as a stepfather to the future King of England.

These are definitely heavy charges, and not really anything new, but my heart has always gone out to Mohamed Al Fayed, and who knows.......

Rest in peace Dodi, and Diana.

Mr Potato Head As A Spokesperson

"Two very special things about Mr. Potato Head: 1) he was the first toy to be advertised on television, and 2) he was the first toy that featured real produce. That's right the original toy came as a collection of eyes, ears, noses, a body and accessories that you'd "force" into a real potato. To be fair to Hasbro, Mr. Potato Head's creator, did include a styrofoam "potato" but it wasn't much fun.

In 1964 a molded plastic potato body became part of the toy. But back then, Mr. Potato Head also had friends including Carrots, Cucumbers, Oranges, Peppers and a love interest, Mrs. Potato Head. With Brother Spud and Sister Yam there was an entire Potato Head family, and all of the packaging carried the slogan "Lifelike Fruits Or Vegetables To Change Into Funny, Lovable Friends."

What's most amazing, however, is that Mr. Potato Head's appeal has garnered him many "spokespud" gigs.

In the American Cancer Society's annual "Great American Smokeout" campaign he handed his pipe to then Surgeon General C. Everett Koop and swore off the tobacco, he got up off the couch for the President's Council on Physical Fitness, and he even pitched in with the League of Women Voters for their "Get Out the Vote" initiative.

Of course, he's been involved in plenty of straight marketing campaigns, too: in 1997, he shilled for Burger King's "Try the Fry" introduction of their new French fries.

That said, our favorite thing about the spud is the sort of celebrity pull he has. After all, what other toy can claim they were voiced by Don Rickles?"

The above quote is actually a small portion of a very funny yet informative read entitled: Secrets behind your favorite toys over on American news site CNN. Naturally a headline like that insured it would be part of my morning reading. ;)

Aside from the toy cult classic Mr. Potato Head the article discusses Erector Sets, Slinkys, and those baffling Lincoln Logs, remember those???? Gawd I'm getting old.....:-/

How to Win Friends & Influence People

This grandfather of all people-skills books was first published in 1937. It was an overnight hit, eventually selling 15 million copies. How to Win Friends and Influence People is just as useful today as it was when it was first published, because Dale Carnegie had an understanding of human nature that will never be outdated. Financial success, Carnegie believed, is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to "the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people." He teaches these skills through underlying principles of dealing with people so that they feel important and appreciated. He also emphasizes fundamental techniques for handling people without making them feel manipulated. Carnegie says you can make someone want to do what you want them to by seeing the situation from the other person's point of view and "arousing in the other person an eager want." You learn how to make people like you, win people over to your way of thinking, and change people without causing offence or arousing resentment. For instance, "let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers," and "talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person." Carnegie illustrates his points with anecdotes of historical figures, leaders of the business world, and everyday folks.

You can grab a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People for $7.99 US through my bookshop. :D

Camden Market Fire

It was with much sadness that I heard over the weekend that the famous Camden Market was on fire.

The blaze started in Camden Town's famous markets area on Saturday, and about 100 fire-fighters were reported to be at the scene.

Camden Market is well known to both Londoners, and tourists alike for having a great mix of products, and items to suit just about every taste, and pocketbook.

My thoughts go out to all of those business owners who have lost so much, and the people of Camden.

He Is What I Call A Winner

Now this dude is what I call a winner! Apparently he has been entering contests since he was a child, and has an entire house full of the prizes he has one! I LOVE the photo above. :D

Here is a snippet from the news item hubby sent to me this morning:

Tom Wethern’s house brims with more prizes than the free-toy wing at the Cracker Jack factory. Two slanted-ceilinged trophy rooms on the third floor of the 100-year-old Lower Allston home more than live up to the billing. The right room — with space for only one person to enter at a time — is overflowing with cardboard boxes, all filled with years’ worth of spoils. The left room feels as though prizes are practically oozing from its walls: there’s a Schecter guitar signed by members of the Cure, an elaborate Super Soaker water gun called a Hydroblade, a radio-controlled car begging to be freed from its box, and T-shirts and hats strewn about like confetti.

The article really put a smile on my face, and has inspired me to enter a contest or two myself. Wish me lucks! B)

U.K Lenders Want To Prevent Fraud

According to an article I was reading earlier this afternoon, lenders in the United Kingdom are asking for tighter rules in order to combat fraud within their industry.

Commercial Mortgage and Residential Mortgage are at risk of being higher than the actual property value, which is very bad news for both borrowers, and lenders.

The Council of Mortgage Lenders has stated that the concern comes from the uncertainty of the property market. This could lead developers to being less than honest with their offers of cash backs, vacations, free legal fees etc.

"The CML is the trade association for the industry of mortgage lending."

Hopefully these rules will be tightened, and perhaps this is something to consider when it comes to the US market as well.

Toronto Specific Online Look-Ups

Good morning my peeps!

Today I am having a look at Toronto Major League Search which endeavours to bring the best in T.O right to your computer screen via an easy to use search function.

Firstly, let me outline how simple it is to use this site. Just surf on over to the Toronto Major League Search site, and you will find two search boxes. The first one is where you plug in the type of establishment you are looking for. In my example below I used Japanese Restaurants. The second box is for a location if desired (this is optional) and I used Queen street.

Here is the result:

Pretty cool eh! The screen shows a detailed map of Japanese restaurants near Queen street. The list over to the right shows the top 10 out of my criteria (you can increase your results per page). You can click on one of the listings to the right, or you can click on one of the pincushions you see on the map for further details.

From a consumer, and web surfer's perspective I find this site to be useful, and convenient. It should in my opinion be an attractive online marketing option to advertisers as well.

If you are a Toronto area advertiser you may just want to have a look at their site's details for submitting your business, and the flat-fee prices they are offering. Toronto Major League Search is a valuable service in my opinion, and I have bookmarked the site for my own future reference.

Cheers!

Wordless Wednesday - Rio de Janeiro Carnival

The Brazilian Carnival is an annual festival in Brazil held 4 days and marks the beginning of Lent.

The modern Brazilian Carnival finds its roots in Rio de Janeiro in the 1845, when the city's bourgeoisie imported the practice of holding balls and masquerade parties from Paris. It originally mimicked the European form of the festival, over time acquiring elements derived from African and Amerindian cultures.

I would love to attend carnival in Rio one day.

Watch Out Google Here Comes That Other Behemoth!

By now pretty much everyone already knows that Microsoft wants to buy internet legend Yahoo. And according to the BBC news, Microsoft's Yahoo bid should get approval.

Here is a snippet:

With US politicians due to meet later this week to discuss Microsoft's offer for Yahoo, analysts ultimately expect any deal to secure regulatory approval.

As Yahoo's board mulls Microsoft's $44.6bn (£22.4bn) takeover proposal, a key congressional committee said it will scrutinise the bid on 8 February.

Members of the US Congress Judiciary Committee said any sale of Yahoo would raise important competition issues.

European regulators have said they would give the deal a fair hearing.

Anti-Smoking Drug Related To Suicide

Uncle Sam wants you to quit, but apparently you should not be doing it with the help of Champix, or as it is known as in the United States Chandrix. Are drugs not tested any more before being put out to market? Read on:

A warning is being issued about a stop-smoking drug sold by prescription in Canada and the United States.

In Canada, the drug is sold under the name "Champix,'' while it's known as "Chandrix'' in the U-S.

The US Food and Drug Administration says the drug has been linked to serious psychiatric side-effects, including depression and thoughts of suicide.

The F-D-A says it has received more than 35 reports of suicides linked to "Champix".

The warning comes two weeks after "Pfizer", the manufacturer, added stronger warnings to the drug.

"Champix", which was approved by Health Canada a year ago, acts on the part of the brain affected by nicotine.

Officials say patients with psychiatric troubles were not included in studies that were done for the drug's approval.

When Is The Next Payless Shoes BOGO?

Last week was my 41st birthday, and my thoughtful eldest daughter gave me a $50.00 dollar gift certificate for Payless Shoes. I decided to go this weekend and take advantage of their winter clearance sales, and the above image is the result of my shopping trip.

Not bad for $50.00 bux eh!

Payless Shoes is one of my favourite stores both in-person, and online. Their "buy one, get one half off" sale or BOGO is a great way to save even more $$$$$ bux on their already good prices. St Thomas Real Estate - A Review

Map of U.S. Virgin Islands courtesy Wiki. You can see St Thomas in the upper left of the map.

"Saint Thomas is an island in the Caribbean Sea, a county and constituent district of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), an unincorporated territory of the United States. Located on the island is the territorial capital and port of Charlotte Amalie."

Today in Toronto, Canada (which is where I am typing to you from) it is minus fourteen degrees Celsius => in other words it is frightfully cold. Aside from that regular readers know that I have been under the weather of late, therefore I jumped at the opportunity to go have a look at this online resource for St Thomas Real Estate. B)

Firstly, the website for REMAX Dream Properties is a breeeze to use for the average web surfer. The site itself is set up to be very easy to navigate, and each category of property be it home, business, or rental vaction spot is easily found through their search set-up. This includes different sections for both potential buyers, and sellers.

Virtually all of the property listings come with some type of photo to give you a good idea of what you are looking at along with descriptive write-ups.

I was definitely left with the impression that REMAX Dream Properties are the leading authorities on St. Thomas real estate.

Paper Airplanes In Space

I thought this was too cool, and had to share!

Researchers from the University of Tokyo have teamed up with members of the Japan Origami Airplane Association to develop a paper aircraft capable of surviving the flight from the International Space Station to the Earth’s surface.

The researchers are scheduled to begin testing the strength and heat resistance of an 8 centimeter (3.1 in) long prototype on January 17 in an ultra-high-speed wind tunnel at the University of Tokyo’s Okashiwa campus (Chiba prefecture). In the tests, the origami glider — which is shaped like the Space Shuttle and has been treated to withstand intense heat — will be subjected to wind speeds of Mach 7, or about 8,600 kilometers (5,300 miles) per hour.

A large spacecraft such as the Space Shuttle can reach speeds of up to Mach 20 (over 15,200 mph) when it re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere, and friction with the air heats the outer surface to extreme temperatures. The much lighter origami aircraft, which the researchers claim will come down more slowly, is not expected to burn up on re-entry.

No launch date has been set for the paper spaceplane, but Shinji Suzuki, an aerospace engineering professor at the University of Tokyo, is thinking ahead. “We hope the space station crew will write a message of peace on the plane before they launch it,” says Suzuki. “We don’t know where in the world the plane will land, but it would be nice to send a message to whoever finds it.”

I love origami, but have never been any good at it myself. My kiddos though have enjoyed making all sorts of paper sculptures through origami.

Curry Hell Boss Passes Away

A popular British restaurateur, who claimed to serve the world's hottest curry, has passed away according to the BBC. I didn't know the man... but I like him. I also believe I saw a travel documentary that featured his restaurant. Here is a snippet from the BBC article:

Abdul Latif, offered the famous dish - Curry Hell - free to any customer who could finish it at his Newcastle diner.

The 52-year-old became a renowned local businessman thanks to his talent for publicity and regular appearances in cult adult comic Viz.

He died of a heart attack at his home in the city's Gosforth area in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Latif's restaurant, which used to be called Rupali, enjoyed a high profile in recent years.

It features in the Guinness Book of Records for the world's longest-distance curry delivery - from Newcastle to Sydney.

Social Networking & Privacy Issues

Are you a Facebooker or Facebook user? If so do you worry about how your private info is being handled?

I am listed on Facebook, and I was not overly concerned until I read this BBC article. Here is a snippet:

Facebook is to be quizzed about its data protection policies by the Information Commissioner's Office.

The investigation follows a complaint by a user of the social network who was unable to fully delete their profile even after terminating their account.

Currently, personal information remains on Facebook's servers even after a user deactivates an account.

Facebook has said it believes its policy is in "full compliance with UK data protection law".

"We take the concerns of the ICO [Information Commissioner's Office] and our user's privacy very seriously and are committed to working with the ICO to maintain a trusted environment for all Facebook users and ensure compliance with UK law," said a statement from the site.

Full BBC Article Here

While this does raise some flags with me in regards to Facebook I would never put something online that I would be concerned about now or in the future. I think if we really consider that nothing can ever truly be deleted from the www and use some common sense then privacy issues would not be such a big deal.

Social networking can be a great way to promote websites, businesses, and yourself. :D

Understanding Your Dogs Bark Literally

I have two dogs, and would pay quite a hefty sum for a gadget that could actually translate their bark. Sure more often than not I know what they want, "food, take me out, walk, food, take me out," you get the idea. However, a doggie Babel Fish would be too cool in my opinion. What got me on this topic is an article posted to Live Science entitled: Computer Understands Barking Dogs

Here is a snippet:

Artificially intelligent Dr. Doolittles can understand dog barks as good or better than humans do.

These findings suggest computers might significantly help people comprehend animal communication.

Scientists tested artificially intelligent software on more than 6,000 barks from 14 Hungarian sheepdogs. Six different kinds of barks were taped:

* Barks for strangers were recorded when a researcher approached a dog's owner's home when the owner was away.
* Barks during fights were recorded at dog training schools, when a trainer encouraged dogs to bite the glove on the trainer's arms and bark aggressively.
* Barks for walks were recorded when owners behaved as if they were preparing to go for a walk with their dogs.
* Barks for balls were recorded when owners held balls in front of dogs.
* Barks during playtime were recorded when owners played tug-of-war or similar games with dogs.
* Barks made when alone were recorded when owners tied dogs to trees in a park and then walked out of sight.

After analyzing digital versions of the barks, overall the computer program correctly identified the kinds of barks the dogs made 43 percent of the time — about the same as humans' 40 percent, said researcher Csaba Molnár, an ethologist at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary. The software identified 'walk' and 'ball' barks better than people, although people identified 'play' and 'alone' barks better than the software.

Business is Business

Business is Business... I 'spose.

When a company or a person says something, I assume they mean it.

Way back when, during the height of the anti-trust cases against Microsoft, I saw a company emerge... and online company that seemed to be an ever-growing David to an existing Goliath that said their company would do no evil.

In fact, their company philosophy, even now, has this built in...

6. You can make money without doing evil.

Google stood out as almost a beacon to the world about how a small company could go head-to-head against Bill Gates' empire and not only survive and thrive... but "win".

All these blogs... all the ones on DoubleDeckerBuses.Org and even our Paranormal Blog have enjoyed some decent success with advertising... sponsored posts mostly.

These efforts have truly helped our family who were literally drowning in debt and facing very bleak prospects after The Bus Man (Matthew) was unemployed for a long while when his company closed their Toronto offices a number of years back and left him laid off. The added income was not tremendous... we weren't about to buy our first Rolls Royce and jet off to the Bahamas for the Winter... but it put food on the table and allowed us to manage without going further into decline.

These ads, for the most part, were based on advertisers who used "Google Page Rank" to determine who would get their business... and thanks to our blogs being fairly substantial and offering a lot of good quality content (so we were told,) we did nicely... and the fiscal storms were avoided.

"Page Rank" is determined by an algorithm which back-tracks links to sites... more links, better page rank. This was changed when a few companies, figuring this out, set up "link farms" where they'd sell links to artificially bump up page ranks. Of course, Google admitted there were other "bits" of the algorithm that helped determine the worthiness of a webpage... those bits were more than a little confusing to understand... and seemed to change every so often.

Google is a business. They don't have to support the online world, but their word on "Page Rank" is fairly biblical in it's interpretation with advertisers... and when they recently changed the algorithm to include "knocks" against people that used things like "Pay-Per-Post" (now Izea,) as the advertisers who paid for "posts" got links they "paid" for, it hurt a lot of people... including us.

Most of our blogs went from a Page Rank of between 2 and 4 to a zero within the last three months... in fact, all our blogs are currently "Page Rank Zero".

This means we went from enough advertising revenue to work our way out of debt, to basically enough money to get by, and as of today, not enough to make it.

So, in essence, to "punish" those advertisers who pay for links and ads, they hurt us... although Google AdSense/AdWords, of course, is not affected.

Now, I understand, again, that Google is a business... they don't need to "support" possible revenue competition with other advertisers... and need to protect their "rankings"... but it does seem, by all accounts, that they are selectively killing opportunities because of competition... an in so doing, throttle our ability to make money... and when a larger company strangles out a smaller company from the market, this is usually considered a bit of an "evil" act.

"Do No Evil" as a coverall seems to now be "Do No Evil to Google"...

Again, that's fine... but it does seem to be a bit hypocritical.

To Izea's credit, they are offering their own stats to advertisers called "Real Rank" to kind of combat Google's ranking stranglehold...

Sadly, it may be too little too late.

"Google" is now not just a company, but a verb in the dictionary.

Think of it this way...

How many people go to the store to buy "facial tissue" or ask for a "facial tissue" when they sneeze?

How many ask or go to buy Kleenex?

To many, especially "non-geeks", the "internet" is synonymous with "Google".

Ergo: Advertisers who are not "tech savvy" will always fall back to what they know... which, in this case is Google.

Granted, there is a caveat in this...

In the 1980's and early 1990's, "Apple" computers really were the only "home computer" out there. Their brand name and brand recognition were unparalleled in the computing world...

Trouble was, if you wanted a computer, you had to go to only an authorized Apple dealer. Upgrades? Apple products only. Software? Only Apple or "Apple Approved".

Along came IBM's Personal Computer. IBM originally wanted to be like Apple... but soon, clones hit the market. Their operating system maker started selling to other companies. People developed new hardware and software away from IBM...

If you wanted a computer, you could go to any computer shop. Upgrade? Any computer retailer could help. Software? A wide open market.

Today, only 18% of computers on the desks of people on the planet are the much vaunted Apple... they literally "proprietarized" themselves out of business.

The way Google appears to be going is if you want to have a good page rank, you must only deal in Google approved advertising. Better yet, you should only deal with Google directly.

This is a sound business model... until...

Once you've killed all alternatives, what's left?

Will Google achieve a sort-of monopoly on advertising... or will advertisers start to look elsewhere... to things like Real Rank?

Eventually, if the trend continues, it will be the latter.

Sadly for us, that will be too late.

With Google's throttling of our Page Rank and our drop in revenues, we will need to look for other ways to bring home the kibble for our puppies... and so doing, may not be able to maintain all our blogs...

As stated, our blogs are MOSTLY non-advertising... some of our blogs are cited (online and off) in Wiki and various university and student papers... but apparently, according to Page Rank, are worthless... so we may need to scale back in putting on content in favour of making money to survive.

Ergo (again): In Googles seeming fervour to keep pure the information on the internet, they will be killing content because of this throttle of income.

"Do No Evil".

We hope there will be some change... and we don't know what our future will bring... and we hope that advertisers (especially through Izea) see the possible error of Google's ways and switch away from Page Rank...

...but until then...

Looking at Googles business principals again...

4. Democracy on the web works.

From what we're reading... and what we're seeing... Google had best hope this isn't entirely accurate. A rebellion may not be too far away...

Cheers!

Shout Out To DreamHost Customers

If you are an unhappy client with Dreamhost listen up because a company by the name of Lunarpages seriously wants your business. How serious are they you might be wondering? If you are then you have got to check out Lunarpages Offer for DreamHost Customers by giving this linky some clicky love. :D

Basically Lunarpages has created a coupon especially for former Dreamhost clients to use when hooking up with them. This coupon entitles the user to receive $40 off hosting with Lunarpages. Now that in and of itself is really cool in my opinion, however they are willing to do even more for your business.

I have read that they are willing to offer Dreamhost customers who are unhappy with their current Dreamhost contracts up to 9 months of paid time that the customer has already spent. Now that is very cool in my own humble opinion! B) And tells me that Lunarpages must be fairly confident in their own services to be able to offer that much. In other words I believe it would be safe for us to assume that this company feels that people who hook up with them for hosting services are going to be happy enough to want to stick around as a loyal customer.

You are probably quite curious at this point as to exactly what types of services Lunarpages offers its clients. After I heard of their offer to Dreamhost customers I know I was certainly curious as to what they've got.

The basic Lunarpages plan comes with 15,000GB of Transfer and 1,500GB of storage, a free domain name, and 10 add-on domains for just $6.95 a month. The plan actually comes with a lot more, so if this has whet your appetitive please do surf on over to the Lunarpages.com website, and get further details.

I also want to mention at this point that Lunarpages has been around for several years, and has already built up a happy clientèle, so this bail out for Dreamhost customers is pretty cool.

If you are interested in becoming a possible Lunarpages affiliate check out this page here:

http://www.lunarpages.com/affiliate/

Payouts for selling a dedicated hosting plan is a $180 bux!

MySpace Helps Out Parents

Finally some good news is forthcoming for parents from social networking giant MySpace. MySpace has agreed to help in fighting child predators online, while at the same time giving parents the ability to block their kids from joining up in the first place. Here is a snippet from a NY Times article in regards:

Representatives from MySpace and the attorneys general of 49 states are announcing a new partnership to fight sexual predators and clean up social networks.

Among the dozens of measures MySpace has agreed to take, the social network will let parents submit the e-mail addresses of their children, so the company can prevent anyone from using that address to set up a profile. It will also set the profiles of all 16 and 17-year-olds to private, so only their established online friends can visit their pages - essentially creating a “closed” section for users under age 18.

MySpace also promises to hire a contractor to identify and delete pornographic images on the site. And the company will take charge of an Internet safety technical task force to develop an age and identity verification tools for social networking sites.

I’m not sure how this is going to work - such systems are either notoriously easy to circumvent or so cumbersome that they stymie sign-ups. Such measures will also clearly be easier to carry out for MySpace’s rival, Facebook, which already has a more privacy-oriented architecture, and has encouraged users from the beginning to use their real identities.

But the attorneys general are heralding this as a big step and the phrase “landmark partnership” is being bandied about quite a bit in the news conference.

Full NY Times Article Here

I see this as a very positive step in the right direction by the powers that be at MySpace. Finally parents will have direct control through MySpace itself. Kudos to MySpace for helping with this imternet-age family issue! :D

Lets Be Happy For No Reason

Hey my peeps, today I am going to give you all the scoop on Marci Shimoff's new book, which is called Happy For No Reason. Marci is one of the teachers of "The Secret" and is well respected in the self-help community. This newest book of hers is so exciting because in part it demonstrates how the granddaughter of famed author Ernest Hemingway learned to master her own self esteem, and poor body image through The Sedona Method (award winning actress Mariel Hemingway). And because it promises it will help you to achieve the same!

I have to admit that I am highly intrigued by the successes, and endorsements this method has been given including Marci's good word on the subject. Marci is a graduate of this method.

I do not know about you, but I can personally count dozens of people myself included that could benefit from the teachings to be found through The Sedona Method. If you feel the same way you might just want to click on over to the site I have linked to in this post. They are not only offering The Sedona Method course as written about by Marci Shimoff, but they are right now offering FREE DVD, MP3, and CD gifts to help you on your way. Very cool!

Want the public to like your product better?

Jack up the cost! Weird eh?! Actually I was not overly surprised when I read this news item. Here is a snippet:

WASHINGTON - Want people to like your product more? Raise the price.

That seems to be the lesson from a new study in which people were asked to taste wines marked with different prices. Researchers scanned the brains of the testers and found that the part of the brain that records pleasure lit up more for the more pricey vintages.

And that was true even when - unknown to the testers - they were sipping a wine that they had liked less when it had a lower price tag.

Antonio Rangel and colleagues at California Institute of Technology thought perceptions of higher price meaning higher quality could influence people, so they decided to test the idea.

They asked 20 people to sample wine while undergoing functional MRI's of their brain activity. The subjects were told they were tasting five different Cabernet Sauvignons sold at different prices.

However, there were actually only three wines sampled, two being offered twice, marked with different prices.

Full CBC Article Here

Despite my lack of surprise, I must admit I cannot understand why so many feel that the higher an item is priced the better in quality it is. Of course this is not necessairily true, and in fact the opposite may in fact be accurate depending on the product.

Eee PC

Hey My Peeps!

Have you checked out Eee PC yet? Hubby sent me the link to their website, and I've got to admit they have got me interested. The word I'm getting from my techie friends is that this is another "dive in" from Microsoft... originally, the Eee PC was supposed to come solely with a Linux platform... but "suddenly" started offering XP for the same price in their units. ;)

Hey, I'd happily buy the kids one of their 8 Gig units... provided they dropped the prince below $300.00... which they might.

These units are getting VERY hot... and will get much hotter in my humble opinion!

The 10 Worst PC Keyboards of All Time

I had to have a good laugh while reading this article on The 10 Worst PC Keyboards of All Time which was recently featured in PC World online.

So why did I think it was so funny? Well I found it to be funny because I have owned almost all of these that are listed in the article at one time or another!

I did not own any of these:

Commodore 64 - I had the cheaper (but same keyboard) model, the Vic 20
Never owned a Timex Sinclair 2068
Nor a Mattel Aquarius
Nor a Commodore PET 2001

...but I've had the rest!

So, out of ten... I owned 5 1/2 of them at one point!!!!

The Word On Accountancy Jobs Abroad

I had the opportunity to check out the Accountancy Jobs Abroad website over at:

www.accountancyjobsabroad.com

earlier this morning, and was impressed by the level of service being offered to accounting and financial professionals through this online resource. The company specialise in relocating professionals within the financial community to off-shore, and exotic locales. The buzz on this hot online executive job agency is all positive. Check out the press release below:

Press Release:

Accountancyjobsabroad.com has experienced a boost to its 2008 plans by acquiring several clients in the Middle East region. The business since its inception in October 2007 has principally signed clients from the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. However mirroring the expansion in the GCC region in general, the company has experienced a number of enquiries from the Middle East from companies who wish to recruit finance professionals and accountants.

The web based financial recruitment consultant has also seen an ever increasing requirement for talented finance professionals from the UK Channel Islands, namely the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. Director Mike Williams commented “…as companies consider their staffing requirements for 2008 we have been contacted by a number of new and dynamic companies who are finding that traditional bricks and mortar recruitment consultancies are not offering the right amount of flexibility to service their needs. We are finding that our tailor-made recruitment solutions fit their requirements perfectly and as such we are looking forward to an exciting 2008 as are many of our prospective employees who we will be placing in exciting and prosperous locations.”

The company continues to expand in Bermuda and the Cayman Island, and also the company is developing potential clients in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and China. The company plans to have vacancies in each of these countries by mid-2008.

Tata Motors Worlds Cheapest Cars

Tata Motors has unveiled the Tata Nano (above) at India's biggest car show in the capital of Delhi. I personally think it looks kinda cute!

The Nano is already being called the "people's car" because of its very competitive price, approx. $2,500 U.S. Here is a snippet from an article on the BBC:

The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees or $2,500 (£1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels.

The four-door five-seater car, which goes on sale later this year, has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear.

It has no air conditioning, no electric windows and no power steering, but two deluxe models will be on offer.

Tata will initially make about 250,000 Nanos and expects eventual annual demand of one million cars.

The price will be slightly more than the 100,000 once tax and other costs are taken into consideration.

The Nano release comes as India's domestic car market is predicted to soar in the coming years on the back of the country's fast-growing economy and increased consumer wealth.

The Aquarium Toilet

As a very small kid I used to have this strange fantasy about catching fish in the toilet bowl .... what can I say I was a very weird little kid.....

When I cam across the Aquarium Toilet all those strange childhood thoughts came back, but as an adult ummmm I do not think I would be all that comfortable using a loo like the one above if it was functioning.

Here is what Oddee.com had to say about it:

Teach a man to fish, and you have fed him for a lifetime. Put some fish in a man's toilet, and he will never have a boring trip to the pot again. This is the clever thinking behind the Fish 'n Flush.

Fish 'n Flush is a patented, two-piece aquarium toilet tank, designed by AquaOne Technologies, Inc., an innovator of water-management systems. The aquarium has a 2.2-gallon capacity. When you flush, it looks like all the water is draining out of the tank and the fish are going down, but it's an optical illusion: the fish are actually safe in an outer aquarium made of high-polished plastic. What you see draining is the toilet water in a separate tank behind the aquarium.

So what do you all think? Would you want one of these in your bathroom?

Handy Peel Infomercial

Cracked.com has this to say about the above: "Knife chick, here, is not an enthusiastic food preparer. We know this because her scenes are in black and white, and because she would seemingly rather look anywhere but at the knife she is wielding and the 1-inch-thick slices of potato she is lopping off. When the inevitable happens (she cuts herself), she is exasperated with the whole concept of this 2-million-year-old technology."

I say this is one creepy product, in fact I am still not overly convinced the vid clip above is not a spoof! Has anyone actually seen this on tv or better yet tried out the "Handy Peel" product?
