Wordless Wednesday - Shopping Mall In Tehran

"Proving Hollywood's global appeal, posters of stars Al Pacino and Humphrey Bogart adorn the entrance to a shopping mall in central Tehran where pirate movies are in demand."

I have always found shopping experiences around the globe to be fascinating! How, and what we shop for says a lot about our societies, and often, as is illustrated by the photo above, proves that we are really not all that different. Granted they are showing very good taste in my opinion. I would have been a bit horrified to see Paris Hilton's mug promoting the mall. ;)

For non WW participants, yes I realise it is Tuesday in the USA, but WW is open to people around the globe so I occasionally like to post them for people living in areas where yes it is already Wednesday, and are already taking part in WW .. :)

Happy Wordless Wednesday! Thank you for stopping by!

Bible Inspired Action Figures Coming To US Stores

Forget Barbie dolls, and celeb inspired toys. Instead of Spiderman or Bratz dolls, children in the US could soon be clutching a talking Jesus toy, a bearded Moses or a muscle-bound figure of Goliath. This little snippet courtesy the BBC:

From the middle of August, Wal-Mart, the biggest toy retailer in the US, will for the first time stock a full line of faith-based toys.

The Bible-based action figures will initially be given two feet of shelf space in 425 of the company's 3,300 stores nationwide.

There, the Tales of Glory dolls will take on what their makers are calling "the battle for the toy box" with some of the nation's most popular action figures.

The market is notoriously hard to crack, with every child wanting what their friends at school have and high-profile brands like Transformers and Spiderman dominating marketing.

So will the 12in (30cm) Jesus doll quoting scripture or the 3in (8cm) figure of Daniel in the lion's den open up children's imaginations - and their parents' wallets?

Full BBC Article Here

I have serious doubts as to how well these action figures will sell. Firstly they are being aimed at an obvious niche market, and despite that niche being a big one how many kids will want to play with these if their buddies at school of different backgrounds, and faith are not into them????

I'm no expert, but I am a parent, and of course former kid ....

Perhaps sales of these will be much better than I think they will be? Time will tell, and I'll make a note to revisit this topic after Christmas.

Cheers!

Online Rebate For Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

......Sweet Dreams ....

Today I have got a hot shopping tip for you courtesy of the Mediflow Website.

Have you heard of the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow before? If not, listen up! Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in tests found it to be the most superior of all pillows tested for people such as myself, and perhaps you too that suffer from neck pain. They also ranked it highest in promoting deep, and unbroken sleep ... something that I also suffered from for years. And I can tell you there is nothing better for your health then good quality sleep.

Go have a look at the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow via the link above, and watch the video clip on the main page.

Now for my hot shopping tip! While on the website scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the link that says "promotions". Enter this code "mediflow-48D98" where you are promoted to do so, and download the special rebate coupon! You can use the coupon to get a $5.00 rebate when you buy the Mediflow pillow at any JC Penney store or JCP.com and Target.com. Cool eh!

Sweet dreams!

Adventures In Wal-Mart

As much as I say I loathe going to Wal-Mart, even I have to admit their prices are hot! I just got back from "adventures in the land of Wal-mart" with the kiddo. All of their summer stock is on sale, and I was able to pick up several pairs of new t-shirts, and shorts for the kid to wear at the cottage at just $5.00 bux a piece. You can't beat that, and at those prices it's no biggie if she ruins them the way an 11 year old tomboy usually will. ;)

Memories Of Honest Ed's

I went shopping at Honest Ed's a few days back. Honest Ed's is a large discount store here in Toronto, no scratch that it is a shopping mecca known by virtually all Torontonians as a place to snag some great bargains.

The place is filled to capacity with all sorts of items from clothes to housewares, and some rather bizarre stuff too! Visiting is always an adventure.

The really neat thing about the place is how it is decorated with photos from various eras of the store itself, and numerous celebrities like a whos-who of Hollywood's A-List that have either visited through the years or knew Ed Mirvish because of his amazing contributions to theatre in this city.

Honest Ed's is a must-see for shoppers visiting this city in my own opinion.

Ed Mirvish passed away this past July 11th, and it was with some sense of sadness that I visited his store ... I used to shop there as a small child with my grandmother who has also passed on.. but I felt a sense of comfort as well in knowing that it will be around for generations of Torontonians yet to come.

Thanks Ed!

Planning A Visit To Britain

To say I am an Anglophile is an understatement! I LOVE everything British, and especially London! London RAWKS, and if you have never been to this world-class city what are you waiting for!

Firstly lets talk shopping. London is famous for it's fabulous markets like Portobello, Covent Garden, Camden, Brick Lane, Bermondsey and others , and naturally there is always Harrods to visit.

The theatre experience in London is also fabulous! Complete schedules for Victoria Palace Theatre, Adelphi Theatre, and Theatre Royal to name just a few are all available online.

This city is hot for its historical sites, and museums, and did I forget to mention the London Eye!!!!

It's easy to book Cheap Hotels in London both year round, and last minute through CheaperThanHotels.co.uk, and they are an excellent resource for travellers to this FAB city!

If you are looking to stay in a London burb, no problem. You can find listings for all the suburbs of London including Cheap Camden Hotels many which offer free extras!

Now I did say in the title that the subject of this entry was travel to Britain, which obviously is far greater than just London alone. Again no worries because this company can hook you up with the best deals on destinations around the United Kingdom. Have a look at this listing of Accommodations in Edinburgh, and check out the price points on some of the best places to stay in Scotland.

If you are planning on a visit to the UK either on business or for pleasure I do recommend you have a look at CheaperThanHotels.co.uk, and save yourself some cash that could be better spent elsewhere -> like on shopping!

Singing The Wet Basement Blues

News sites are literally flooded (no pun intended) lately with reports of near catastrophic flooding from around the globe, and to be honest it is quite disconcerting to read about.

I have never experienced a highly destructive flood, but I did live in a house that faced chronic flooding issues due to poor basement drainage. This was a problem for me in more ways then the obvious time spent mopping, and occasional damage to items. I am terribly allergic to mold, which is a nasty by-product of basement flooding. In fact no one should be exposed to too much mold as it can be a serious health risk.

If you are singing the wet basement blues you should go have a look at the B-Dry System (they have been effective in fixing basement wetness issues for over forty years). They are the experts on fixing wet basement problems, which is why they can offer a lifetime warranty to their clients.

You can obtain further information by visiting the B-Dry website through the link above, and arrange for a free estimate.

Facebook Facing Lawsuit

Facebook, which I believe is now the world's largest social networking site is being sued. ConnectU founders have claimed that their idea was stolen by Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg. They are asking that Facebook be turned over to them according to a BBC report. Here is a snippet:

Networking website Facebook is to face legal action on Wednesday in a suit brought by a rival site's founders.

Three founders of ConnectU say Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for the site while at Harvard.

Facebook has become a global phenomenon with about 31 million users, compared with ConnectU's 70,000.

A Federal case accuses Mr Zuckerberg of fraud and misappropriation of trade secrets, and asks for ConnectU to be given ownership of Facebook.

Last year, Facebook turned down a $1bn offer from Yahoo.

Facebook has asked a judge at a Boston district court to dismiss the case.

Full BBC Article Here

It will be interesting to see what if any evidence is brought forward to back-up ConnectU's claims. If I recall correctly didn't MySpace at one time face a similar issue?

Thousand Hills Golf Getaway

My father was an avid golfer. He would play golf at any opportunity that presented itself, including booking his vacations around well-known golf resorts.

Today, I had the opportunity to check out some of the vacation rentals offered at Thousand Hills Golf Resort in Branson, Missouri USA, including Branson condos, and cabins. Naturally this brought up fond memories of my Dad, and his love of the game.

I have included one image of Thousand Hills Golf Resort above, but you really must visit the website (I've linked the photo to it) to get a good idea of how beautiful the course, and accommodations really are.

The prices are excellent in my opinion, and I would recommend that anyone dreaming of, or planning the perfect golf getaway either as a couple, or a family as we used to do, have a look at what they are offering.

Happy Travelling!

The study confirms that blog reviews do provide a significant impact on purchasing decisions, and therefore a tremendous ROI for companies that utilise this type of marketing strategy.

And Speaking Of Harry Potter Spoilers

According to a BBC report from earlier today, Harry Potter author JK Rowling is quite upset about the spoilers appearing all over the place including the New York Times! The Times published a review revealing plot details before the release of the book. Here is a snippet from the article:

JK Rowling has hit out at US newspapers that have published plot details from the final Harry Potter book.

The author said she was "staggered" that papers including The New York Times had printed reviews ahead of the novel's publication on 21 July.

The author said the information was in "complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers".

UK publishers Bloomsbury said spoilers remained "unauthenticated". Some books have been sent out early in the US.

The book's US publisher Scholastic has sued online retailer DeepDiscount.com for breaking the strict embargo by dispatching a number of copies.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Countdown Is On

The countdown is definitely on for the last book in the outstanding Harry Potter series. This Friday evening our local Chapters bookstore is hosting a mass launch party complete with give-aways for the best character costumes, free fortune telling, and much more.

Naturally I'll be there with the girls eagerly awaiting the clock to turn to Saturday 12.01am when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will finally go on sale.

I LOVE the hoopla, and hype generated by Harry Potter, if only because I see so much excitement generated by a book as very good thing!

I'll try to get some good photos to post over the weekend.

And NO I have no interest in the spoilers that are popping up all over the net, and just as quickly being hauled down. You never really know if the info found on spoiler sites in cases like this is accurate anyway.

Wordless Wednesday - Beer Can Doll

"So, what do you do if you've got a bunch of empty beer cans, bottlecaps, pulltabs, the disembodied head of a doll, and no concept of female anatomy? Only one thing springs to mind!"

Renting Out Real-Estate

Have you ever rented out a property? Many years ago now, before the internet (yeah, I know when the dinosaurs roamed the earth) my now ex-husband, and I rented out a basement apartment in order to help pay the bills when my eldest daughter was born. It was a cute one bedroom basement unit, and the ex put in a brand new kitchen for the unit himself.

In those days you had to rely solely on newspaper ads or word of mouth advertising to get the word out about your available rental unit. These days with everyone now online it is a lot easier to reach prospective tenants through Rentals.com

This site is the resource for property rental online, and I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about the website if you are not yet familiar with it, and the features that I like.

Firstly, the site is very easy to use. You can easily set up an ad for your rental property in a simple four step process, or you can get your listing online via this phone line: +18888997566 The second might be a great option for those with multiple, and ongoing listings.

The price packages are quite reasonable, and affordable for the service being offered, and they include absolutely free a yard sign to help you.

Rentals.com is highly trafficked, and by listing through them you will be reaching a much wider audience, and potential renters than through newspaper ads. Your chances of making the right match for your rental is that much higher, and if your not happy after 30 days you'll receive a refund, not bad eh!

In case you are wondering, we did eventually find a nice single Mom who rented out the apartment from us, and it worked out very well. I can't help, but thinking though how much easier it would have been had a resource like Rentals.com
been around in those days ... ;)

Google Continues To Address Privacy Concerns

According to a report by the BBC Google is continuing to address its user's privacy concerns. They have now announced that all of their "cookies" will auto delete after two years of inactivity. Here is a snippet from the news item:

Google has said that its cookies, tiny files stored on a computer when a user visits a website, will auto delete after two years.

They will be deleted unless the user returns to a Google site within the two-year period, prompting a re-setting of the file's lifespan.

The company's cookies are used to store preference data for sites, such as default language and to track searches.

All search engines and most websites store cookies on a computer.

Currently, Google's are set to delete after 2038.

Peter Fleischer, Google's global privacy counsel, said in a statement: "After listening to feedback from our users and from privacy advocates, we've concluded that it would be a good thing for privacy to significantly shorten the lifetime of our cookies."

Full BBC Article Here

I actually think this is positive step in addressing some Google users privacy concerns. At the very least the company continues to show that it does listen to its users. Although, I am quite certain as well that they will still receive criticism in regards.

Honest Ed Mirvish

July 24, 1914 — July 11, 2007

Over the weekend I couldn't help but note the irony that former Torontonian Conrad Black was convicted of fraud on the same day that his old haunt Toronto was celebrating the life, and memory of another business mogul "Honest" Ed Mirvish. While the former will forever more be tainted no matter what the outcome of his appeals, the latter will forever be remembered as a beloved philanthropist, theatre impresario and friend to all including the poor of this city.

Here is a snippet from the Globe & Mail:

Ed Mirvish was remembered yesterday as a zealous businessman with a wicked sense of humour, a loving family man and an extraordinarily generous person who dedicated his life to giving back to his community.

Mr. Mirvish, better known as Honest Ed, was famous for unconventional promotions for his massive discount store in downtown Toronto, which continues to sell everything from socks and microwaves to religious statuettes and antiques.

Canada's theatre community remembered him as a white knight whose decision to restore the ailing Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto helped put the city on the musical theatre map -- in spite of Mr. Mirvish's claim that he knew nothing about acting.

Mr. Mirvish died Wednesday in a Toronto hospital at 92.

As hundreds of mourners solemnly filed into the Beth Tzedec synagogue yesterday, Toronto police and emergency services personnel lined the walkway, saluting as Mr. Mirvish's immediate family arrived.

Several dignitaries, including Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, former premier Bob Rae, Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Julian Fantino and NDP Leader Jack Layton, were also acknowledged by the honour guard.

Something to think about.....

Rest in peace Honest Ed, you are a person that did great things for this city, and someone we should all aspire to be more like.

One Laptop Per Child And Intel

Intel has joined forces with the non-profit One Laptop Per Child foundation, which aids children in the developing world. Here is a snippet from the BBC in regards:

The agreement marks a huge turnaround for both the not-for-profit One Laptop per Child (OLPC) foundation and Intel.

In May this year, Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of OLPC, said the silicon giant "should be ashamed of itself" for efforts to undermine his initiative.

He accused Intel of selling its own cut-price laptop - the Classmate PC - below cost to drive him out of markets in the developing world.

"What happened in the past has happened," Will Swope of Intel told the BBC News website. "But going forward, this allows the two organisations to go do a better job and have a better impact for what we are both very eager to do, which is help kids around the world."

Full BBC Article Here

It is good to hear that these companies have decided to work together for the betterment of children around the globe. When I first heard of the $100.00 laptop I thought it was a fantastic idea, and it can only just keep getting better with chip-making giant Intel now on board. I believe that these laptops will be a key in providing education to some of the world's most poorest children. Excellent news!

Lead Management - CRM Software

Having spent most of my own professional life in either a sales or client support capacity I have through experience learned how vital effective lead management, and CRM strategies are in working towards success within sales. In today's business world these are naturally handled for the most part electronically, and this has worked very well towards streamlining the processes.

Earlier today I had the opportunity of reviewing AIMpromote's customer relationship management software system, and I'd like to take this opportunity to outline some of the features, and benefits they offer that assist in generating, maintaining, managing, and selling leads.

Lead aggregation companies will certainly benefit in my opinion from this software's ability to manage all aspects of their business making it highly cost effective. This software allows for lead import, and export, lead reselling, and a bevy of other features that trust me are too numerous to list within the scope of a blog entry.

Aimpromote's CRM software also allows for complete automation of all sales processes, including campaign, and website report generation making it an outstanding online sales tool.

For a complete list of this software package's features, and benefits please have a look at AIMpromote.com by clicking on the link provided to you, and compare the costs vs. services offered with the other CRM software providers. I believe you will be clearly impressed with AIMpromote's lead management - CRM software, which is currently being offered on a 14 day free trial basis .

I also wanted to mention at this point that part of what impresses me the most about AIMpromote aside from their terrific software is that they are client goal oriented. The support they provide to their account holders is exceptional in its value. Not only do they provide electronic, and telephone support +18882514635 (for international calls you can obtain info on their website), but they also offer free one-on-one training in internet marketing and advertising with qualified experts in the field. To me that alone make it very worthwhile to look into further.

Conrad Black Convicted of Fraud

This is breaking news on the BBC. Here is a snippet:

Media tycoon Conrad Black has been convicted of three charges of fraud and one of obstructing justice by a jury in Chicago.

But Black was found not guilty of separate charges of racketeering, wire fraud and tax evasion.

Black was facing 13 charges associated with claims that he stole $60m from investors in the newspaper firm Hollinger International which he ran.

The jury took 12 days to reach a verdict in the high-profile case.

Full BBC Article Here

I have been following the Conrad Black saga since last year as he is a fellow Torontonian. And the words "How The Mighty Have Fallen" spring to mind. At this point I believe there will probably be an appeal, but this still will constitute a very sad day for Mr. Black. At this point it is almost certain that he will go to prison in the USA.

Here Is A Twist!

For those of you who might be unfamiliar with it Mighty Bids is a successful online auction site. Part of its success lies in the fact that it has always marketed itself as an alternative to eBay. Therefore when I came across a press release stating that the company was looking to sell I was rather surprised that they decided to utilise eBay as a way to auction off the site!

Here is a snippet of the press release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONTREAL, QC: After four years of proving there can be a successful alternative to the status quo, the founders of MightyBids.com today announced that their much-praised company is itself to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. More surprisingly is the avenue Peter Michaud and Jeff Ramaglia have chosen to take for the MightyBids.com sale. “We’re listing it on eBay,” Peter Michaud said. “We figure it’s the least we can do to show it was all in good fun. Mostly.” Michaud’s “good fun” is in reference to repeated MightyBids.com criticism of eBay’s continual rate and fee hikes. Using vehicles such as the eBay Food Drive, MightyBids.com has called attention to what they feel has been a policy of profit over people at the online auction giant’s corporate headquarters.

You can read the remainder of Mighty Bids Press Release at this link.

Working on getting my own home based business off of the ground has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences I have ever tackled thus far in my life. It has not been easy, and naturally there has been a steep learning curve that I am still on, but in the long run I know that it is going to be worth it!

Fortunately there are some very good resources available to people such as myself, and perhaps you too, that are online, and therefore easy to access, and gain information from. Today I'm going to introduce you to one such resource that may prove to be very helpful to readers who are also either starting up or are currently in business for themselves no matter what size your company.

Incparadise.com offers lots of useful info, plus provides affordable services for incorporation throughout the United States. Here is an example using their Tennessee Incorporation page.

Their small business blog is a powerhouse of info that I have bookmarked for essential reading. They pretty much cover every topic under the sun that is relevant to small business operations, and I found it very easy to navigate.

The site provides articles on topics such as different business structures, and therefore appropriate no matter what stage of business you are in.

Have a look at what they are offering via any of the links provided in this entry. I'm certain you will agree with me when I say it is a worthwhile resource. You may also be interested in exploring their commission based affiliate program.

Cheers!

A Word On Wordless Wednesday

For those of you who are visiting for Wordless Wednesday please see below or click here.

To address at least one person though that found the image to be disrespectful. It is a gag item only, a novelty that is meant to be funny. :) Ask yourself if you would have been as offended had it been a Bill Clinton cigar or a Paris Hilton trash can?

No real offence was ever intended by myself, and I'm certain that is equally true of the novelty, and gift company that actually sells them.

Each week I feature images of weird, odd, unique, or funny items for WW not because they are "ads," but because they fit with the over all theme of the blog.

Links to the company/individual that sells the item are going to be included at the very least as an image credit, and courtesy.

Hopefully that is n'uff said .. ;)

Comparing Discover Cards

Today I will be reviewing a website that offers consumers the ability to compare the various different types of Discover Cards that are being offered to the buying public.

First off let me say that I believe anyone who decides that they would want to apply for a credit card should do some comparison shopping first, and that is why sites like this are important, so that you the consumer can make an informed choice based on the features, benefits, and yes even drawbacks on the differing credit cards that are available. Depending on one's own circumstances, and buying habits certain cards may be far more appropriate than others.

This site (follow through on the link) deals specifically with Discover Cards. You will see several options listed including the Discover Motiva Card, Discover Open Road Card, Discover Business Miles Card, Discover Student Card, and a handful of other types as well. Each comes with a brief description, and the ability to apply for them online.

The site itself is designed to be very user friendly, and easy to navigate. I would recommend it to anyone interested in applying for Discover Cards.

Looking deeper into the website there are articles on credit cards, credit in general, applying online, and a credit card glossary for further reading on the subject.

Again, it is good to check out online resources such as these in order to make an informed decision.

Three Cheers for The Kwik-E-Mart

Three cheers for 7-Eleven Inc who have turned a dozen stores across N. America into the fictional Simpson's convenience store to coincide with the cartoon film's premiere on July 26th.

This clearly demonstrates a good marketing strategy along with the fact that this corporation has a FUN sense of humour!

In other Simpsons related news towns name Springfield in the states of Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Michigan are all anxiously awaiting to find out which one will be named the home of TV's most famous cartoon family, and host the movie's premiere. The lucky winner can expect a boost in tourism, and their local econonmy.

In my opinion web hosting should be one of the primary concerns for any business that has an online presence no matter what the size of the company. Sony To Slash Playstation Prices

Sony is set to cut it's price on the Playstation 3 in the United States in a hope that this move will boost its sales according to a report on the BBC. Here is a snippet in regards:

Sony is slashing the price of its PlayStation 3 games console by 17% in the US to boost sales.

As a result of the $100 price cut the PS3 will now cost $500 (£249), $20 more than the rival Microsoft Xbox and twice as much as the Nintendo Wii.

The Xbox and Wii have been significantly outselling the Japanese firm's PS3 in the US market.

The news came as Microsoft said it would not be cutting the Japanese price of its Xbox to lift lacklustre sales.

Microsoft made the announcement a week after it said it was spending $1bn to repair problems with the Xbox 360.

Full BBC Article Here

We do own a Playstation, but to be honest I have always preferred Nintendo's gaming products over that of Sony. Therefore this news will not really affect my own purchasing. However, if you are a fan of the Playstation, and planning on making a purchase you may just want to hang in there until the price drop takes full affect.

Cash Back Credit Card Calculator

Credit cards have become an integral part of most consumers shopping experience in today's world. It seems that everyone is using them, and many of us myself included have at least at one time or another gotten into some financial trouble with them. Therefore in my opinion as someone who has been there, and done that, it is vital for anyone who either has credit cards, and uses them or wishes to obtain a card have as much knowledge about them before hand prior to even applying.

Today I visited a website that I'd like to tell you a bit more about, as it does just that, provides consumers with information on various types of credit cards, includes reviews of them, and allows people the ability to comparison shop in one handy online location in order to find the best credit card/s for their own needs, and budgetary concerns. They even include such features as a handy online cash back credit card calculator.

The website is called Ask Mr Credit Card, and it is set up very nicely. It is easy to navigate, and the cash back credit card calculator is quite simple to use. Just input your personal expenses data, and hit submit. The calculator will then fetch the best card recommended for your own use based on the information you have given. It really is easy, check it out, and you'll see for yourself what I mean. If you are not already receiving rebates on certain purchases you'll definitely want to have a look at was is being offered.

The Boeing Dreamliner Is Hot!

The BBC reports that a huge crowd as seen in the image above attended the unveiling of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. This magnificent (in my opinion) aircraft was put on view at Boeing's assembly plant in Everett in Washington state.

Here is a snippet of the BBC' report:

US plane manufacturer Boeing has unveiled its 787 Dreamliner - the firm's first all-new jet since 1995.

It is the only big commercial aircraft made mostly of carbon fibre rather than aluminium and is billed as the most environmentally friendly ever built.

Boeing says the 787 is much more fuel efficient than its competitors and produces 20% less CO2.

The firm says it already has more than 600 orders. The first test flight is expected in August or September.

Sunday was chosen for Dreamliner's premiere as it is 8 July, or, in the American date style, 07/08/07.

Full BBC Article Here

Orders for the Dreamliner have been swift, and enthusiastic. I personally look forward to reading more once the first test flights are completed. I have been following both news on the Dreamliner, and it's rival the A380 since early last year.

A Review - MerchantOS

Today it is my pleasure to introduce to you MerchantOS, which is an online provider of point of sale or pos software, and inventory control web based services. I spent some time reviewing their website, and learning more about their services this very morning, and the following is what I have learned about their software package.

Firstly this software is appropriate for the small business owner, and retail operation. It is feature rich, and designed to at the bare bones level make your life easier by allowing you to control all areas of your operation with one handy application. Features of the software include the ability to track all merchandise, and sales, generate reports, track customers, and much more. In fact there are so many features, and positive benefits that it would go beyond the scope of this blog entry if I were to attempt to list, and critique them all. Therefore I recommend that if you are interested in pos software that you surf on over to the MerchantOS website via one of the links in this entry, and watch their introduction video, from there you may also wish to try out their demo.

You can see for yourself how easy it is to use, even for those of us who are not that computer savvy. There is no need to worry about data backups as they do that for you, no hassles to upgrade software, and you can access it from any computer with internet access at any time you choose.

The company is currently offering a one month no obligation free trial, and have a three tiered price plan, meaning you can choose from three different packages to suit your own needs, and budget. There is no added sign-up fees, nor any cancellation of service fees.

Another thing (and it's an important one) that impressed me is their level of client, and technical support. They even include an online forum, and blog to insure their clients needs are being met, and they are being kept up-to-date.

Cheers!

Social Networking With Facebook

I took the Facebook plunge yesterday, and I finally signed up for an account with this social networking site. To be honest I was highly sceptical of it at first, thinking that it was just another MySpace, and more suited to college students than an oldster like me.

However, I have found that it can be a lot of fun, plus an additional way to promote this blog. I have already gotten some hits from my Facebook profile.

If you have not already checked it out, you might want to go, and have a look. It's very easy to set up, and free to boot!

Renting Vs Home Ownership

There should be no doubt that owning property vs renting or leasing is a good long term investment for the vast majority of us. That is why I am happy to draw your attention to this website that features Asheville real estate, and some of the most beautiful property in North Carolina that I have seen.

If you are considering making the commitment to invest in your future by purchasing property then have a look at their website by clicking on the link provided to you. You may also wish to click on this link for Charlotte real estate, and explore further options, and housing bargains.

As a smart consumer I reccommend that you visit this page, which enables you to compare mortgage rates, and see how you could actually save more money owning vs renting! At the very least it is always a good idea to comparison shop when it comes to any financial product or service.

There is nothing like the feeling of owning your very first home, and in the long run knowing you are making a wise financial decision in doing so.

High Tech Auction For Security Risks

I read the following news snippet on the BBC this morning, and must say I thought what a brilliant idea! Read on:

Security researchers who find holes in software can now sell their findings to the highest bidder.

An online auction house has been created to bring together those who find the loopholes with the companies that can do something about them.

It aims to close the gap between the small number of bugs investigated and the huge number thought to exist.

By rewarding researchers, the auction house aims to prevent flaws getting in to the hands of hi-tech criminals.

Full BBC Article Here

With this reward system so to speak in place it gives incentive for people to work on fixing these security breaches. Perhaps even some of the would be "criminals" who might consider exploiting these bugs will now see this auction as a lucrative, and legal alternative? Like I said above, brilliant idea!

My Ice Cream Cookbook Has Arrived

It's here, it's here! This is the ice cream, and sorbets cookbook that I won through a super fun contest that was held at the Mommmy Mommy Land blog!

My thanks to Robin for this really cool prize, I appreciate it! It certainly made my week to win, and I am looking forward to trying out the recipes! Well who am I kidding here, more like pick out the yummiest recipes, and have the hubby whip them up! I'm a fairly terrible cook, and he is pretty decent at it since his grandfather was a head chef at the Royal York hotel, and even cooked for Her Majesty on occasion. Hubby learned some tricks from his grandpa, and inherited some of his skills, and is a far better chef than I. ..... :)

Much thanks again to Robin!

Thats Hot Trash!

You know I should create a category file for "I Can't Make This Stuff Up!" that would be a perfect way to categorise this news item.

According to The Sun Online, Paris Hilton's garbage is being sold on the net. Seriously, her rubbish right out of the trash can is being auctioned off on eBay. Yeah, I know ewwwww! You've got to wonder who buys this stuff??? Maybe it's better we don't know!

Here is a snippet:

PARIS HILTON might want to invest in some padlocks for her bins – after her RUBBISH went up for sale on auction site eBay.

Paris’s cast-offs are selling for thousands after a band of celeb magpies delved into her bins.

Raiders took off with six rubbish bags from the jailbird’s Hollywood home.

And among the old banana peels they discovered all sorts of gems including a DVD of her own film Bottoms Up and even medical prescriptions.

Some items were deemed “too personal” for auction but an old toothbrush, a used deodorant stick, a “gourmet” dog food tin and her tatty old hair extensions were among the items up for sale.

God knows what was “too personal” then.

Full Article Here

I'm grossed out, but not really too surprised. Wasn't a reportedly used piece of Britney Spears' bubblegum also auctioned off on eBay?! Double yuck, and again who wants something like that unless they are planning some bizarre DNA experiments, and again I tell ya I think we are better off not knowing.

Accommodations In India

Since India's embracing of free-market capitalism it's outlook as an emerging world economic powerhouse has continued to be very bright. And as a country it is a hot travel destination for both the business, and holiday traveller.

Today I will be having a look at a Inasra.com, which offers listings, and booking services of hotels in India and other types of accommodations including motel, and bed and breakfast type lodgings.

Firstly I had not heard of Inasra.com prior to today, so I was quite intrigued to see what they have to offer!

Their main page, and in fact complete website is very basic in design. A navigation bar is conveniently located on the top of each page so surfing around their various pages is actually very easy.

They have two ways of looking up accommodations. The first is a drop down search box by state/city, and dates required, this in my opinion is the easiest way to do look ups, and is on the main page. The second way is a dedicated page listing hotels in India, which would appear to take more time, and is curiously absent from their main page's navigation bar. I had to find it through a deeper link.

As a resource for accommodations in India they have the potential of becoming a leading authority online in my opinion, as they do have a highly comprehensive listing for every price range, and budget imaginable.

What I would personally like to see Inasra.com add to their website as they continue to evolve are more pages that relate to Indian tourism in general, what travellers should know, and expect from a visit to their country. Perhaps add some pages on attractions that would interest the tourist in the major destinations within the country. These are just my suggestions, but I do believe they would assist in solidifying Inasra.com reputation as the online go to for travel to India.

Over all I was genuinely impressed with the service they have to offer, including the inclusion of telephone numbers where they can be reached off business hours. I would probably book through them.

Happy Travels!

Crocs Are Sooo Comfortable

This past weekend posting has been rather light on the blog while I celebrated the long weekend with friends, and family! However, I did manage to get some shopping in, and purchased these Crocs at a country music fest. Yes, I know, I actually hate country music, so why I was there is another story, but I wanted to tell you all about the Crocs!

These have got to be the ugliest shoes I have ever laid eyes on, but they are also the most comfortable I have ever worn!!! Seriously, they really are like walking on air, with tiny bumps in the soles that massage your feet while walking! Now I get it! I get why people will toss away all good fashion taste to wear them!

They are fun too! You can purchase charms to adorn them. I have added Krusty, the Clown, Betty Boop, and some pirate skulls to personalise mine.

Definitely worth the money spent on them, and if you hunt around you can buy them at good sale prices.

Cheers!

Spain Is Hot

Spain is home to some of the world's most gorgeous castles!

I have been recently reading a book called The World's Most Mysterious Castles, which Spain figures in most prominently! It is a country that is both rich in history, and culture, and a hot destination for both vacation, and business travellers!

Travel to this hot European destination is not as expensive as one may assume either. Accommodations in Spain can be found at great bargain hunter prices if one puts a bit of research into them.

Have a look at this listing for Cheap Hotels in Barcelona that come with many extras! Barcelona is well known for it's football matches or for the art enthusiast the Picasso Museum.

If a visit to the Royal Palace is more your style, or spending nights at the hottest discos in Spain than Madrid is definitely going to be on your must see list. Accommodations in Madrid can also be found at super deals. Just click on the link for last minute deals, and super savings on over 21 days bookings.

Whether you are looking for a Cheap Hotel in Madrid or any other hot Spanish travel destination you should go have a look at Cheaper Than Hotels listings for great deals, and savings! The website is very easy to use, and they will save you some big $$$$$ on all of your accommodation needs!
