CBS Takes A Look At The iPhone

The above video clip gives you an idea of the features available with the iPhone. This latest Apple gadget went on sale in the States yesterday. From the vid clip it does look really cool! However, at it's current price I certainly won't be running out to purchase one anytime soon.

How about you? Do you plan to be the first kid on the block with an iPhone?

City of Roses - Portland Oregon

I am a dark tourist, meaning that when I travel to different destinations I tend to seek out the more darker, and sordid bits of history behind any given locale. I know, some people like beaches, and soaking up the sun with a good book, but I'm more up for historic sites, museums, and the more macabre the better! And on this account the "City Of Roses" does not disappoint!

If I were planning a trip to Portland Oregon I would definitely have to check out McLoughlin House, (historic site, and rumoured to be haunted) Pittock Mansion, (the grandest mansion in Portland, and very historically significant) and of course (should go without saying) the Oregon Historical Society Museum. To me these three sites alone would be worth the trip to Portland, and truly make my vacation experience awesome while there!

Naturally not everyone is a "dark" tourist or history buff, and in that case you might just want to check out the online Portland Travel Guides offered by SideStep.com, which lists some really cool places to visit. Something for everyone's tastes!

The site is really easy to use, and useful. They also include information on Hotels in Portland that are suitable for all budgets. Just click on the link to bring up a listing of accommodations.

Never Get Lost Again!

Ok I just finished checking out this site PublicRoutes.com, and I could not wait to blog a bit about it because it's just too cool!

This website, which is totally free to use provides information on, and directions for any destination within the United States, and the United Kingdom. What makes it really handy is you can receive directions for any mode of transport including the one I use most often which is public transit.

I checked it out using New York city as just an example. Not only do you get directions by entering in your place of origin, and your destination, but you get a map of New York as well. How cool is that!

You can also grab info on the weather, car rentals, hotels, flights, and more!

I can see this site as being very handy for planning out visits to tourist attractions, or new friends, business trips, shopping, or just working out the best route to get to work in the morning. Definitely one to bookmark for future, and continued use!

Happy Travels!

New Diet Pill On War Against Obesity

I'm really not certain what to think about this new "diet" pill that has been unveiled by Italian researchers. On the one hand it sounds like a really good idea, granted it's a bit disturbing that it was discovered by accident on the quest for a superior diaper. On the other I can see how it could be very easy, and open to abuse. Here is a snippet from a BBC article:

Italian scientists have developed a pill that expands in the stomach to make dieters feel full.

They liken the effect to eating a bowl of spaghetti and say the pill can stop hunger for a few hours.

It is made from a hydrogel, which the team developed when trying to make more absorbent nappy linings, and may help in the battle against obesity.

So far it has been tested on 20 people but experts warned bigger trials would be needed to test safety.

Professor Luigi Ambrosio, lead researcher on the study at Italy's National Research Council, realised when they developed the hydrogel it may have a similar effect to gastric banding - a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the stomach.

Full BBC Article Here

As stated above my views are mixed on this new pill, but if it eliminates the need for invasive surgery, I do think that is a positive.

Future Steel Buildings Blog - A Review

Today I had the opportunity to surf around the Future Steel Buildings Blog, and I thought I'd tell you a little bit about it.

Future Steel is a company based out of Markham, Ontario, Canada, and they have been in business for over 25 years. They manufacture buildings such as this one pictured below:

When I first surfed on over to the Future Steel Buildings BlogI expected to find the usual rather dull corporate type of blog, that has no real content beyond their own products, and services to engage readers. However, this was not the case at all. Yes, they do naturally talk about their products (they are a business after all) via sections like Future Steel Stories, but they also include crazy news items, and other interesting tid bits, that make the blog fun to read, and a reason to keep surfing back.

Overall the blog is designed neatly, is user friendly, and again contains enough content of interest to garner a regular readership because it is updated very regularly.

Spice Girls Reunite

Yep, that is right, earlier today the Spice Girls announced a reunion tour. I wonder how long it will take for stores to become stocked with Spice Girls merchandise. I was never a fan of these "girls" particularly Victoria "I married a soccer superstar" Spice. And I'm not alone, she gave Paris Hilton a good run for her money in my Most Annoying Celebrity Poll. Here is a snippet on their reunion tour:

The Spice Girls have confirmed they will reform for a world tour to take place in December and January.

The full line-up has not performed on stage since Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell quit in May 1998.

The 11 dates announced include a London show on 15 December, eight days after the tour begins in Los Angeles.

"I think for us it was about celebrating the past, enjoying each other and it's about our fans. It was the right time," said Halliwell.

Payless Rocks!!!!

I LOVE shopping for shoes at Payless, especially when they have their BOGO (buy one get one) sales going on.

Today I purchased some new running shoes for the kid, and while she was in the store trying them on I found the cutest pair of Lower East Side, brown suede with faux fur, slip ons. They were regularly $44.99, but since the line was discontinued Payless had them marked down to $5.00 bux, and they were in a box at the far back of the store.

I tried them on, and my feet melted in them. They are sooo comfy. I purchased them, and with the BOGO sale paid $2.50 for them. How cool is that!!!!

I could easily resell them on eBay new in the box for 10 times what I paid, but n'yeah they are just too comfy, and will look hot with jeans in the Fall.

Bargain Shopping For Home Lighting

One of my own personal home decorating quirks is lighting. I think this probably in some way has to do with the fact I'm a migraine sufferer, and the lighting of a room does greatly affect me at times. I hate any sort of harsh lights.

And naturally, my quirkiness also has to do with aesthetics. I feel that lighting décor is a definite important consideration in regards to accenting the rest of the room, (shining the light on it if you will) and can really help to set the mood or tone of any room.

Since everyone has their own unique tastes I thought I would give you this shopping tip on an online shop, and resource for your home lighting needs. Farreys.com has a huge selection to choose from, and their prices are definitely bargain hunter worthy!

Have a look at these fine art lamps, they are beautiful, and hand crafted! They are also competitively priced.

If you are looking for something more specific like hinkley light fixtures you can utilise the website's search functions, which are easy to use to find exactly what you are looking for.

Summer Colds Suck

Summer colds suck! And the kid is coming down with one, and trust me there is nothing more miserable than a pre-teen girl with a head cold in 35+ Celsius heat, and humidity. Ugh!

Granted there is some help to ward off a cold, but you've got to catch it at the first signs, and symptoms. The BBC is reporting that taking the herbal remedy echinacea can more than halve the risk of catching a common cold, and lessen it's severity. Read on:

US researchers found it decreased the odds of developing a cold by 58% and the duration of colds by a day-and-a-half.

The results in The Lancet Infectious Diseases conflict with other studies that show no beneficial effect.

Experts believe echinacea, a collection of nine related plant species indigenous to North America, may work by boosting the body's immune system.

Full BBC Article Here

I have found that it does work, but again you've got to start taking it asap after the first signs or it won't work. At least that is what I've found. Now I'm off to pass the kid a tissue ...

It's a scorcher!

It's a scorcher in Southern Ontario right now, and I know that a lot of people are running out, and purchasing air conditioning units, and extra fans. I'm no exception, and I recently picked up a CENTRIOS tower fan with ionizer.

I'm not going to blog about the product, although the fan works great, and I have no complaints with it.

No, I'm just a little pissed with the hustler at The Source - Circuit City that sold it to me. You see they've got it on for a really good price, and when I looked it up on the web I was happy to note the store closest to me had a few in stock. Not wanting to wait for delivery I went on over to the store.

Not seeing these fans on display I asked the salesman about them. At first he acted like he never heard of them before, and tried to up sell me on another type that was double the price, with less features. Then when forced to check out the company's website so that I could show him exactly what I wanted, and that it was listed as in-stock, he then proceeded to surf over to the page of the one he had already tried to sell me on. UGH!

Finally I got him to check the correct page, and he then went into the basement, and surprise (!) you guessed it, he brought out the exact item I was looking for.

With much gnashing of teeth, and grumbling I paid for my purchase, and left with my fan.

Combined with the excessive heat - this experience did not leave me a happy shopper with fond thoughts of ever going back.

Cheers!

Judge Loses Lawsuit Against Dry Cleaners

Remember that weird lawsuit I blogged about a couple of months ago in the entry "Talk About Being Taken To The Cleaners." The gist of the story was how a US judge was suing a couple for $54 million over the loss of his fave pants (yes I said pants!). Well here is an update:

A US judge has lost a $54m (£27m) claim against a South Korean dry-cleaning firm which lost a pair of his trousers.

Roy Pearson, a judge of administrative law, claimed that Custom Cleaners had violated the Consumer Protection Act.

By refusing to pay him $1,000 (£500) after losing his trousers, they failed to honour a pledge to provide "Satisfaction Guaranteed", he argued.

But a Washington judge dismissed the case, which drew international attention, awarding the cleaners costs.

Legal groups have said the case, which has dragged on for two years and involved thousands of hours of legal investigative work, has damaged the image of the US judicial system.

The USA is already known for frivolous lawsuits, but this literally took the cake. Thank goodness saner heads prevailed. I really felt terrible for the business owners. What a nightmare!

Is It Me Or Has Spam Gotten Weirder?

This past weekend a lot of spam got through my otherwise really good spam filters. One continuous barrage of email had the header: You've received a postcard from a family member! It has a link that ends with duhymn.hk. Of course I did not click on it, but I did a search, and that domain does not appear to exist. Perhaps it's a virus?

The weirdest of all had to be this one though, which is for some sort of cheap meds. It starts off with this line:

"I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog, if medicine prices here (link deleted) are bad.

Look, the site and call me 1-800 if its wrong..

My dog and I are still alive :) "

How bizarre is that! And no, I NEVER click on this stuff!

Shopping In Delhi's Old Quarter

The above image was featured in the BBC earlier today. It depicts a shop in Delhi's Old Quarter. In the forefront of the photo is an antique gramophone. I adore small shops such as this one, and open air markets where prices are always up for negotiation, and the shopping experience is not soul-sapping as I so often feel when I am at a Wal-Mart or Ikea type of big box store. Oh do not get me wrong, I do shop on occasion at both of the those stores, but I really do not enjoy it, I mostly go for the savings on everyday items.

Vintage Dairy Queen Commercial

"Live a little at Dairy Queen" is the slogan for this vintage commercial circa the 1960's. It's a far cry from today's current ad campaign, which features a couple (a male waffle, and a female scoop of ice cream) spraying themselves with whipped cream. This one is fun though with it's cartoon images, and teens of the era hanging out with their malts, and shakes. Kind of makes one nostalgic for what seemed like a gentler time.

Toothpaste Containing Anti-Freeze

Scary thought eh! According to recent news items, shoppers in both the United States, and Canada have purchased toothpaste that contains anti-freeze. The toothpaste looks like name brand products such as Colgate, but in fact is counterfeit.

I believe these tainted toothpaste tubes were purchased at bargain discount shops, and dollar stores. Personally when it comes to things that I ingest or put on my skin like soaps I will only shop at large chain stores. Either way it is always a good idea to carefully examine any product before you purchase it.

A Review - The Blog Revolution

I have been mentioning how I miss the old Blog Explosion "Rent My Blog" campaigns in recent entries because they afforded me an opportunity to visit other bloggers that I may not have come across otherwise, and the ability to offer up a review, and promote other bloggers right here as well.

Today I'm going to do just that, give you my thoughts and opinions on differing aspects of The Blog Revolution.

I'm going to start off by being right up front with you, this review is being sponsored, but it was requested to be an honest, and neutral review of the blog owner's site. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

The Blog Revolution is well established, with a lot of content in varying subjects to choose reading material from. This was the first thing I noticed. I noted it first, because good content is important to me, in fact I judge content above anything else as to whether or not I'll be spending 30 seconds or half a day on any given site.

The blog author is a student that goes by the username Trumania. There is a fairly lengthy "About Me" entry, which I read through first, and appreciated because it gave me a sense of who the writer actually is, and where in life they are coming from.

At this point I would like to make mention of this particular entry that caught my eye: Blogging v. Journalism It covers two hot button topics of my own, the quality of journalism as opposed to blogging, and Pay Per Post. We are both posties.

In regards to the first I genuinely wanted to reach out and hug the author for this:

"Many bloggers throw out facts and figures and yet they don’t cite any sources. If I see an article which has no sources I consider the information tainted. Now, that’s not to say the entire article is trash, but instead I see it as something I would need to research myself to make sure the blogger has the right facts and is basing his or her opinions on the right facts."

Not only do I wholeheartedly agree, but just today blogged on my family journal in regards to the lack of sources or resources that are just not cited on so many articles I come across on a daily basis. It's a pet peeve of mine.

As for the Pay Per Post part, Trumania covers the recent Forbes article controversy in regards to this online advertising company that we are members of. Definitely worth the read if you are interested in the subject.

I have read a couple of more entries on the site, and they are well written in my opinion, and demonstrate the thought put into each subject by the author.

Now for the design part. I leave this to last because again, if a site isn't causing my browser to crash, and is fairly easy to negotiate then the design of it is the least of my concern.

The template chosen for The Blog Revolution is a fairly common one. It's a good one, but I have seen it in use many times. I would like to take this opportunity to suggest to Trumania (Mike) to consider maybe switching templates to something more original, maybe add a unique logo as well. I think this would work towards getting the site some added attention by setting it apart from others using the same one.

Overall it was my pleasure to visit this site, and I wish Trumania continued success with it! Definitely worth going over, and checking out some of the other entries.

Airbus A380 Sales Are Hot

Last month I blogged a bit about the new super jumbo A380 vs the 747. It sparked some lively discussion, which is always a good thing! I've been keeping an eye out on what's going on with the A380 ever since, and was quite interested in this latest bit of info from the BBC posted earlier today. Here is a snippet:

Airbus has seen its order book bolstered with a string of high-value orders at the Paris air show.

Qatar Airways led the way, confirming an existing $16bn (£8.1bn) order for 80 A350 Airbus planes and ordering three A380 super-jumbos for about $750m.

Meanwhile US Airways ordered $10bn worth of planes - 22 A350s, 60 A320s and ten of its A330-200 wide-body jets.

But Airbus's main rival, Boeing, has announced a deal with General Electric (GE) at the show.

GE's commercial aviation services made an order for six 777 Boeing freighters valued at about $1.4bn, for delivery in the last three months of 2008.

Full BBC Article Here

Last time I blogged about this aircraft I was quite honest in saying that as a traveller I'd like to see it in the skies for a couple of years before I would be comfortable flying on it. This is still true. For some reason I do not have the same qualms about Boeing's new Dreamliner.

QE II To Become A Hotel

Plans for the retirement of the most famous cruise ship in the world are detailed on the BBC today. The following is a snippet of the lengthy article. Read on:

Dubai is to buy the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship for $100m (£50.5m) and turn it into a floating hotel off the Gulf emirate's man-made islands.

The 70,000-tonne vessel, launched by the Queen in 1967, is to be sold to the Dubai World firm by Carnival, the world's largest cruise operator.

Dubai government-owned real-estate developer Nakheel is building three palm-frond shaped isles off its coast.

The ship will be berthed from 2009 at a pier at the Palm Jumeirah development.

Full BBC Article Here

I have never been on a cruise before. However, I have always wanted to try one out, and I cannot think of a more famed cruise ship than QE II. Well at least she will still be bringing pleasure to countless people in her new incarnation as a first-class hotel.

Synchronicity & Home Loans

Good Monday morning my peeps! When I woke up this morning my radio/alarm (which is set to my fave news station) had a fellow talking about mortgage refinance, and the benefits of home loans. I found this to be a synchronicity or meaningful coincidence upon reflecting what was said, as today I will be introducing to you a website resource on this very topic.

My mother recently refinanced using home loans to fix up her house both exterior, and interior, which not only worked towards making her own ideal living space, saving her money on heating bills, (she put in new storm windows, a new front door, and siding) but increased the value of her house as well. My Mom has always been a wise investor, and thrifty therefore she retired comfortably, and early.

Mortgage Refinance is a hot topic, (as is evidenced by the fact that I'm blogging about it, and just heard a radio talk program geared towards it) and if you are looking for further info yourself go check out the website I was just surfing through by following one of the links provided. There are articles on related topics such as credit renting something that is new to me, virtual real estate, and many other items of interest.

Favela Fashions Are Hot!

From a BBC news item earlier today AfroReggae from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro wowed the catwalks of of Sao Paulo for fashion week! Read on:

Since it was founded in 1993, the Brazilian group has worked to engage young people from the poorest shanty towns of Rio, drawing them away from a life of gangs and drugs.

It has done this most famously through music - a mix of reggae, pop, hip hop and rock along with distinctive Brazilian percussion, providing role models for young black men in particular, where few existed before.

It has been a remarkable tale of success, despite the most difficult of circumstances.

The Scoop On Travel Insurance

The summer months are almost here, and with them comes a lot of travel. I am always telling my readers to be wise shoppers, and that extends itself to being a wise, and informed traveller too.

When I am on a trip or planning a vacation I always include extra travel health insurance in the event of some catastrophe occurring. Hopefully I will never really need it, but it is a wise move, and does give peace of mind for the extra dollars.

All Aboard Benefits is a company that provides quotes on short term international medical insurance, as well as long term international medical coverage for those who are planning to live abroad for a considerable length of time.

They are definitely worth checking out for anyone who is either planning a vacation or business trip.

Several years ago my uncle's family were on holiday outside of the country when my younger cousin broke his leg. My uncle had not purchased travelers medical insurance ahead of time, and had to put out a lot of cash to have my cousin treated. This is just one personal example, but is one reason I always insure that I have some kind of travel health insurance coverage for me, and my own family before leaving the country.

If you click on one of the links above they will take you to the All Aboard Benefits website. It's easy to use, and there is some good information to be found there.

Happy Travels!

eBay Angry With Google Pulls Ads

According to this morning's BBC news item auction giant eBay is totally pissed with search engine giant Google. Read on for the juicy details, and whe eBay has pulled their ads.

Auction website eBay has pulled its US advertising from search engine giant and adversary Google.

The move comes after Google angered eBay with a provocative decision to hold an event on the same evening as eBay's annual merchants' conference.

Google's party was aimed at attracting attention away from eBay's payment system PayPal to its own card processing service, analysts say.

EBay spends an estimated $25m (£12.6m) a year advertising on Google in the US.

This makes eBay potentially the biggest single user of AdWords, Google's advertising system that shows adverts based on words in web searches and the biggest money-spinner for the internet search engine.

Full BBC Article Here

I agree with analysts who predict that after negotiations the dust will settle, and eBay will be running ads through Google again.

Oprah Tops Forbes List

According to a BBC news item published earlier today, Oprah Winfrey is currently the most powerful celebrity in the world as named by Forbes magazine. I don't doubt this at all considering I have read that her sway with US audiences may in fact affect the outcome of the next American presidential election. Read on:

Oprah Winfrey is the world's most powerful celebrity, according to business magazine Forbes.

Winfrey beat golfer Tiger Woods into second spot, with Madonna in third place following a successful tour.

British stars in the top 20 include Sir Elton John, the Rolling Stones and David Beckham.

The list, published annually, takes into account celebrities' earnings, internet presence and press, TV and radio coverage.

Winfrey, whose chat show is watched by 30 million viewers each week in the US, regained her top spot - which she lost last year to Tom Cruise - with estimated earnings of $260m (£131.8m).

Speak With A Geek

Ahhhh...I love it when I can get the headline to rhyme!

Have you ever waited on hold for computer related tech support for seemingly hours, getting frustrated, only to find the advice given or person themselves is equally as annoying, and frustrating as the wait time was in the first place? Unfortunately I can say with all honesty this has happened to me on at least three occasions, the first being the worst as I was a newbie at that time, and was down for two full days because of it.

Well I've got some good news for all of you that are looking for decent phone-based technical support. I just heard about this company, and it looks pretty good.

866geekneed.com
provides live 24/7 computer related tech support through this phone line +18664335633

Their service is not free, it costs $1.99 US per minute, however since they are relying on you to become a repeat customer they have to insure that the service they provide is excellent, which is not always the case with some of the (no names mentioned) larger computer companies that I've dealt with that also provide phone help.

You can check them out online before making a call by clicking on one of the links in this entry.

Money Making Opps That Just Are Not Worth It

This is mostly a shout out to my fellow bloggers who will on occasion blog for payment either through Pay Per Post, Blogsvertise, Review Me or another similar program.

Today I turned down an opportunity to blog about a service that there was no way I could possibly endorse. I'm not going to say with who, but I will say it heavily promoted online gambling.

It's not that I have a big problem with internet gaming, and in fact I have blogged about a couple, but those sites appeared to take some responsibility for their content, this one did not.

It reminded me of another opportunity I turned down for African safari hunting, something I do have a big problem with.

I guess it's a matter of conscience, and each blogger that posts sponsored entries must use their own discretion as to what they will or will not publish on their site. However, I do believe that if one does place ads, sponsored reviews etc on their blog it does imply some sort of endorsement does it not?

A Review - Money Ning

Personal Finance with Money Ning is just that, a blog about personal finances. I know there seems to be a plethora of these types of blogs out there at the moment, but to my surprise there is quite a bit that sets this personal finance site apart from the usual, and makes it a worthy read. Please do read on, and I will tell you more about it.

The first thing I noticed when surfing through the Money Ning blog is that it is updated very regularly, and the information found there is useful. Unlike some other site's that are listed as personal financial blogs, it is not just one big ad screaming at me some get rich quick scheme. There is real content to be found on Money Ning, and it is written up well in easy to understand language.

I was particularly interested in this entry on wedding planning, which discusses, and breaks down the actual costs of the writer's big event. It is a personalised entry that also contains some useful information, and gives me the impression I am dealing with a real person. I like that! Too often these money-oriented blogs seem impersonal or overly clinical.

The rest of the entries on the main page that I read through are much the same, good content, with a personal touch.

From a design standpoint, Money Ning is easy to navigate, and more importantly to me easy on the eyes.

Normally when I do a review of this type I do not feel an obligation to add a link to the site on my own sidebar, therefore when I do you know that I really appreciate the blog I'm reviewing, and will in fact go back for regular reading. And that is exactly what I'm going to do with this one, because I think it will not only be of interest to my own regular readers, but it is a handy way for me to surf back as well.

Cheers!

A Review Of Remortgage Guild

Today I'm going to take this opportunity to introduce you to a company that will help you get a remortgage even if you have bad credit. The company is called Remortgage Guild, and they are based out of the United Kingdom, (hence the usage of the term remortgage as opposed to refinance services) so this blog posting will be of special interest to my British based readers.

Why would someone wish to remortgage you may ask? There could be a host of many reasons as to why, such as the need of a new automobile, unforeseen medical expenses, a vacation, or perhaps to carry out much needed home repairs. As stated people sometimes need money for various purposes, but what happens if they have gotten into credit trouble in the past? That is where the Remortgage Guild can offer assistance to those in need of this type of financing.

The company site has a quick, easy to use form to fill-in on their main page, and by doing so they will give you free, impartial remortgage advice. Their expertise lies in finding affordable mortgages for people who have current or a history of bad credit, such as a bankruptcy.

If you are in need of this type of financial help, please do click on one of the links provided above for further information. It never hurts to explore your options, and the Remortgage Guild has access to over 8000 mortgage products from various lenders.

Review Of Cardroom Supply

It was my pleasure earlier today to visit the Cardroom Supply online shop, and in this blog entry I'm going to tell you dear readers a little bit about this hot company, and the products they supply.

Firstly if you are a Poker player or know someone that is you will definitely want to check this site out! Whether you are looking for a high quality Poker Table or other Poker supplies they have an impressive collection of items to suit everyone's tastes, and most importantly budgets.

Cardroom Supply offers tremendous savings off of retail prices, have a look at this stunning cherry wood Poker table, and then compare the price listings. This fab table can easily be used for multi-purposes, and would look attractive in most any room, with differing décor. And this is only one example that I found to be eye-catching!

This company is well established, and offers a safe, and secure online buying experience to it's customers. They accept all major credit cards, and a big bonus for me they also accept PayPal, which is my fave method of payment for all online purchases.

I also had a look at their shipping rates, which are free for any order placed that is $100 bux or more. Pretty cool eh!

You can place an order with them online or you can call them directly through their toll-free phone number +18778670823. They also give you the ability to track the status of your order.

Over all I was impressed, and I would buy through this company.

A Different Kind Of Home Finance Company

Many of us throughout our lives at least once if not more will need a mortgage or home loan, and the prospect of finding the right lender can, at least for some, be quite daunting. I should mention as well, that when I sat the "right" lender I mean one that will be able to give you terms that you can live with, and afford at hopefully good rates that will not eventually become a financial burden to you.

Believe me I can, and do sympathise. A mortgage or home loan, particularly when it is going towards your very first real estate purchase can be literally quite scary! After all this is a huge financial commitment, that consumers should never go into lightly, and without benefit of good information on the subject from which can be made a wise decision.

This brings me to the purpose of this particular blog entry, which is to introduce you a Financing Company based out of the state of Florida, USA that has been receiving some very positive reviews about the services they are offering from their clients.

I visited Dragonfi.Com earlier this morning, and was impressed by the information given within their website. They are a full service home financing company that is set a part from the rest of their competitors, not only because they are the lenders, (no middle men to have to deal with) and therefore able to offer highly competitive rates, but because they genuinely give the impression that they care about their clients needs, and goals.

Throughout the Dragonfi site it is made abundantly clear that customer service with them is superior. They are available, and happy to lend their expertise to clients throughout each step of the home lending process. They want to make the experience as comfortable, and enjoyable as possible, and hey especially if this is a loan for a very first home it should be a happy occasion! This type of a personal touch is often missing with other types of lending companies where the experience seems far less personal, and much more clinical in nature.

Dragonfi has even simplified their applications, and mortgage calculator so that it is a much easier prospect for their customers.

Go and have a look at what they can offer you by visiting their website through the link I've provided you with above, and/or don't be afraid to give owner William Cox a shout via the following phone line 888.88fi-fly to discuss your own situation, and needs.

Google Worst When It Comes To Users Privacy

Egads! This was an eye-opener of a news item. According to a BBC article Google has the worst privacy policy of popular net firms, says a privacy rights group's report. Read on:

Rights group Privacy International rated the search giant as "hostile" to privacy in a report ranking web firms by how they handle personal data.

The group said Google was leading a "race to the bottom" among net firms many of whom had policies that did little to substantially protect users.

In response Google said the report was mistaken and that it worked hard to keep user data confidential.

The report by the veteran cyber rights group is the result of six months' research which scrutinised 20 popular net firms to find out how they handle the personal information users gave up when they started using such services.

None of the firms featured in the report got a "privacy friendly" rating.

Full BBC Article Here

Wow! Apparently none of the net firms got a user friendly rating. Is the approach of the group perhaps to blame? Are they hostile in approach in the first place? Are their finding skewed? Or are they correct, and if so should we be rethinking who we give our private info to on the net? Or should we accept that we could be taking risks with any info we put out there?

I know lots of questions, most to which I have zero answers for.

Hot Tip For Affordable Life Insurance Quotes

Life insurance can be a rather grisly topic for some people. I guess it is because when we consider life insurance we also must admit to ourselves our own mortality, and envision a world without us. Yeah, I know not a fun topic for a Monday morning, but in all honesty I do believe a very important one.

I have blogged about a lot of different types of financial products before, but today I had the opportunity to visit a site that offers Affordable Life Insurance Quotes in both the United States of America, and Canada. The site itself is very easy to use, you just click on a drop down menu, and you can pick the state or province of your own choosing. From there you can receive quotes to compare, and hopefully find a life insurance product that will suit your own family's needs, and circumstances.

I think that life insurance is imperative to have for everyone. No one can anticipate the future, but you can plan for anything that life may throw your way. At the very least a basic plan that will cover your own funeral expenses, particularly in the event of a sudden or unexpected death should be seriously considered.

When my Dad passed away we were very thankful for his life insurance policy, to be honest if he had not had one at the time of his death when I was going through financial difficulties I do not know what we would have done in regards to being able to bury him.

I know it's not a light topic, but again an important one. If you are in need of life insurance please do click on the link above, and at the very least you can find out what insurance products are available to you.

Legalise the Ivory Trade????

Will legalising the ivory trade put elephants at risk from poachers? I say hell yes it will! If ivory trade is made legal it will spur more illegal sales in my opinion. This is NOT the way to go! Read on:

"It's a statement that's very easy to make, but much more difficult to prove."

At the opening news conference for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meeting, Willem Wijnstekers gave more answers on ivory than anything else - in particular, on the question of whether even a very limited legal ivory trade would stimulate elephant poaching.

Some animal welfare groups believe there is a link.

"Whenever CITES even talks about ivory sales, poaching goes up," Peter Pueschel of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw) had said at a pre-meeting briefing.

The argument is that poachers will spot an opportunity to introduce illegal ivory into the market if a network for legal trade is operating.

Full BBC Article Here

I agree with the animal welfare groups in regards to this. Do people really need ivory in the first place? I truly believe that ALL ivory trade should be shut down period.

Hey Didn't Tesla Already Invent This????

According to a BBC news item a clean-cut vision of a future freed from the rat's nest of cables needed to power today's electronic gadgets has come one step closer to reality. Read on:

US researchers have successfully tested an experimental system to deliver power to devices without the need for wires.

The setup, reported in the journal Science, made a 60W light bulb glow from a distance of 2m (7ft).

WiTricity, as it is called, exploits simple physics and could be adapted to charge other devices such as laptops.

"There is nothing in this that would have prevented them inventing this 10 or even 20 years ago," commented Professor Sir John Pendry of Imperial College London who has seen the experiments.

"But I think there is an issue of time. In the last few years we have seen an exponential growth of mobile devices that need power. The power cable is the last wire to be cut in a wireless connection."

Professor Moti Segev of the Israel Institute of Technology described the work as "truly pioneering".

Now this is cool! Can you imagine getting rid of all those nasty cables cluttering the house. I don't know about your place, but mine is littered with them. No matter how good we hide them it is a guarantee that on any given day I'll have to pull a dog or cat away from them. I really look forward to this!

Father's Day Gift Ideas From Belisi

Father's Day Gift Ideas From Belisi

When it came to stylin' and profiln' my Father had it all! He was very fashion conscious, and felt that grooming, and dressing impeccably well was in part a key to his own success within business, and within life in general. I personally agreed with this philosophy, and not for the most obvious reasons such as first impressions are definitely lasting ones, but because if someone feels they look good outwardly, then this will boost their own self esteem, give them an air of poise, and confidence, as well as just make them simply happy. It is this attitude of putting one's best foot forward that in turn is picked up by other people.

Unfortunately Father's Day is now a bitter sweet memory for me as my own father passed away in 1999. He is still very much missed, and on Father's Day I will have some wonderful memories of days gone past where each year I would hurriedly look for the best gift ideas that I know he would appreciate, love, and perhaps most importantly of all make good use of.

This brings me to my hot tip of the day! I have a terrific idea for a high quality Father's Day gift that your own Dad is certain to love! Please do read on....

If you are not already familiar with Belisi you will definitely want to check out their website. They supply some of the most exquisite Neckties, and Pocket Squares available today.

Their Pocket Squares come in both themed (for virtually any occasion), and signature collections. And their prices are very reasonable, and easily affordable for most every budget.

My father had many Pocket Squares that I still keep today in our family's treasure box in remembrance of him, and had he still been with us one of the fabulous Belisi Pocket Squares would have been a perfect gift idea for him.

I know invite you gentle reader to read more about Belisi via this press release that was just issued. You may also visit the Belisi website by clicking on the links provided to you within this entry, and view their terrific selection, or perhaps consider a Belisi gift card so that Dad can enjoy picking out a gift for himself.

Finding the Right Gift for Father’s Day May Not Be as Hard as You Think

Give a Gift Dad Will Remember…Luxurious, Stylish, and Thoughtful

PALM BEACH , FLORIDA– (MAY 15, 2007) --Okay, so Father’s Day is right around the corner. Wondering what to get Dad? Neckties are often times considered the “stand-by” gift for guys but not anymore. More and more Dads are putting their best fashion foot forward with colorful neckties, as they know this simple accessory can make or break an outfit. Whether you are looking for the red power tie or sophisticated yet casual, there is a tie for every occasion. Give Dad a gift he will remember, something he can wear and treasure for years to come. Dad will feel extra special this year with a beautiful Italian necktie or pocket square from Belisi. With each Father’s Day purchase at Belisi, customers will receive free shipping with their orders. To qualify for free shipping, customers should visit Belisi.com.

Belisi ties are made with more silk per inch than the average tie, which creates a fuller necktie knot, the hallmark of true luxury silk neckties. They come in a variety of colors and styles, so it’s easy to select a thoughtful gift that any father would appreciate.

Pocket squares, which are making a big comeback, also make excellent Father's Day gifts. Belisi pocket squares are oversized, made with a lavish thick silk and hand-rolled on the border. So if you want to give a unique gift for that special guy in your life, a pocket square fits the bill. Another reason ties are still a fresh gift idea is that men can wear ties that accessorize with their partner’s silk scarf, which she can wear tied around her neck or draped around her shoulders as a shawl, tied on her wrist, worn as a belt or handbag accessory or in her hair (a very hot trend right now).

Belisi Fashions remains steadfast in giving back to those less fortunate. Through the “Belisi Luxury with Meaning” program a minimum of 10 percent of the company’s pre-tax profits are donated to those in need. Keeping in-line with Belisi’s mission to create a community within a community, customers decide which charity to make their contribution. Some of the charities include: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association, and 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com.

Belisi was built on the philosophy that a tie or a scarf is more than an article of clothing—it completes your look. “There are plenty of Web sites where you can buy accessories but few where you feel like you’re a part of a fashion community,” affirms Peter Belisi of Belisi Fashions.

The Belisi brand is flourishing, and anticipates the release of its new luxury handbag collection in Fall ’07. As with all Belisi products, the handbag collection will feature extraordinary detailing including real gold hardware, soft treated Italian leather and brushed fabrics, plus many other exclusive features only available through www.Belisi.com.

About Belisi.com

Belisi.com is an online community where customers are “Insiders” instead of order numbers. Being an “Insider” means access to special privileges including free shipping, gift wrap on all orders and a designated place on the Belisi Insider’s Advisory Board. Belisi Insiders’ opinions are more than thoughts expressed in cyber space. Peter Belisi embraces each comment, suggestion or question and responds to his clients personally. Belisi’s fashion blogs offer up-to-the-minute insight from fashion, beauty and lifestyle experts. Find out more by visiting: www.TheDivasDreams.com for women and www.SharpByDesignblog.com for men. Belisi also has a beauty blog, www.BeautifulMeblog.com, which keeps customers “in the know” about all things related to beauty—inside and out.

About Belisi Fashions

The Belisi brand is the brainchild of Peter Belisi, whose lifelong aspirations were to fuse the luxury and prestige of Palm Beach with Italian sophistication. Belisi embodies the spirit of true entrepreneurship with a passion for the best of everything, which is evident in the quality products produced. Each dramatic detail in a Belisi tie, pocket square and scarf represents Belisi’s unwavering commitment to creating fashion products that embody timeless sophistication and enduring beauty.

Wordless Wednesday - Buttons

Occasionally I like to wear buttons either on a jacket, or pinned to a handbag to express my feelings, mood, or quirkiness. I currently have one on my jean jacket that says, " Invisible Cows Currently Control My Life" While I don't have any like the ones pictured below, there are times I certainly wish I did!

And lastly I share with you my Peace Globe:

No Rake Online Poker

If you are an online poker player or gamer you are definitely going to want the hot tip I'm about to give you! Read on ...

I have just learned via a press release that was sent out earlier this morning that online backgammon giant BackgammonMasters is introducing Poker for real money to its All-in-One Lobby! This is very exciting news for gamers as they are an already well established site that is considered the tops in an online backgammon game experience.

By "no rake" Poker the company means that for a limited time only there will be no house commission charged on games. How cool is that! And for those that just want to try it out, but do not wish to risk their money you can play in fun mode games, and those are completely free to users.

If you already play backgammon on BackgammonMasters then you can expect an equally fun, and enjoyable time checking out this newest offering in ultimate Poker playing experience. If you haven't already checked them out, then just surf on over using one of the links I've added into this post.

BackgammonMasters has also recently added Perudo as another high quality game to try-out, and it is rumoured they will be launching even more games soonly! Definitely a hot gaming site to watch!

Madame Tussaud's Paris In Prison Display

Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London, England has shown quite a cheeky sense of humour! They have temporarily dressed their Paris Hilton wax mannequin in a black & white prison uniform whilst the real one is serving her sentence for violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction.

The Los Angeles County jail where the hotel heiress is currently housed does not provide such jaunty uniforms, Paris is apparently in an orange prison-issue jumpsuit.

Promoting Your Website Through A Business Directory

Promoting your commercial website is the key to insuring the success of the site, and one way you can do just that is through getting yourself listed on a Business directory.

US Justices Rule For Insurance Companies

Policy holders take note, U.S Justices rule for insurance companies in disputes over credit reporting. According to a CNN news item, insurance companies won a big legal victory Monday when the Supreme Court issued a ruling that means policy holders will face a tough time proving they were subjected to higher rates because of an "adverse" credit score. Read on:

The justices threw out a lower court decision that would have made it easier for consumers to sue for punitive damages over violations of the Fair Credit and Reporting Act. That federal law requires customers to be notified when they are charged more "because of information contained in a consumer (credit) report."

The unanimous court concluded in two separate appeals that the notification standard was not violated.

The insurance industry had argued a ruling against it would mean a lower legal standard to prove liability, and would have meant billions in dollars in potential damages.

--From CNN Supreme Court Producer Bill Mears

Personally I had no idea that insurance companies could base their rates on a person's credit history. It's news to me!

However, I'm not all that surprised. And this serves as even further incentive to clean up one's own credit. Something I've wrote about a few times on this blog.

Paris To Receive Present In Jail

Famed 26 year old hotel heiress Paris Hilton is officially spending her very first day behind bars. Paris is serving a 23-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. She turned herself in late yesterday night after appearing at the MTV Movie Awards. In a statement made from the red carpet, Paris stated that she was quite scared at the prospect of going to jail.

While incarcerated at the Century Regional Detention Facility, Paris will be kept in a jail cell designed for inmates with "special needs."

Earlier last month in an official press release from Gammonish.com it was learned that online backgammon company BackgammonMasters will be sending a specially made, custom, hand crafted backgammon board to Paris Hilton in an effort to ease the time she will be spending behind bars.

This personalised backgammon board is meant to be a show of support for Ms. Hilton, and if she has not already learned how to play this fun game, a means to use her time in jail productively while learning a new skill.

The gaming company has also expressed an interest in having Paris Hilton attend the annual Monte Carlo Backgammon world championship tournament this later summer.

Hopefully Paris will take away something meaningful from this experience, and learn from it.

iPhone To Be Launched June 29th

The hotly anticipated release of Apple's iPhone is set for June 29th according to a BBC news item. Read on:

Apple has confirmed that its much-anticipated iPhone product will launch on 29 June in the US.

The date was given in a series of TV adverts broadcast on Sunday, and was later confirmed by a spokesman for the California-based company.

The device, which combines the features of a mobile phone and personal digital assistant, will sell for $499 (£251) and $599, depending on configuration.

The phone's much-touted feature is a completely touch-sensitive interface.

The adverts on Sunday showed off several of the gadget's features, including surfing the net, watching videos and scrolling through e-mails using a finger as a pointer.

They ended with the news that the phone would be available "Only on the new AT&T" and "Coming June 29".

Full BBC Article Here

Wow! Remember when a cell phone was just that...a phone! The iPhone is going to be capable of some really cool things, but do we really need to watch movies over our phones?!?

Is the iPhone on your must have wish-list?

I have a feeling this is going to be on my kiddos Christmas lists.

A Review - Fast Money Stock Picks

Earlier today I had the opportunity to be able to visit, and surf around a site that provides its readership with Fast Money Picks. I thought I would further take this opportunity to share with you readers that are involved or interested in this type of investing a bit about what exactly the site can offer to you.

Firstly the site is aptly named Fast Money Stock Picks. I say aptly named because this appears to be the site's primary if not only purpose, and function. At least that is what I found during my visit there.

Fans of the television program Fast Money should find this site very useful, and handy as it provides recaps of their recommendations freely to the general public. If you are a fan of this show, and you've either missed an episode or were unable to write down their recommendations for whatever reasons then no worries, just visit this site.

The site has been online for several months now, is current in its content, and updated regularly. And while not directly affiliated with CNBC, nor the Fast Money TV show, should be a good online companion for the show's viewers.

You can visit the site yourself by following through on the link provided to you above, and make your own determination as to how useful the content, and information provided will be to you.

Sony Drops Price On Blu-ray Player

Sony has cut $100 (£50) off the price of its new next-generation DVD player as it tries to get ahead in the market. Let the battle of the DVD players begin! Read on:

The BDP-S300 now costs $499 - half what the firm's first Blu-ray player cost at its launch six months ago.

Sony said growing demand for the next generation technology and falling production costs had allowed for the price cut.

Electronics company Toshiba sells its rival high-definition (HD) DVD player format for less than $300.

Both companies have struggled to win customers for their respective systems as the battle of the formats is causing confusion, according to analysts.

They believe customers will wait to see which one the market will settle for in an echo of the 1980s Betamax-VHS videotape battle.

Most sales of Blu-ray discs are for use on the Sony Playstation 3 console, which contains a Blu-ray player - although film purists say that they are not ideal for watching DVDs.

Full BBC Article Here

Initially this should be welcome news for the consumer. It does remind me of the old VHS-Betamax battle for supremacy in the 1980's. That should date me. Ha! In the end VHS reigned supreme, and is all but rapidly becoming obsolete now. Granted I am personally enjoying cleaning up on VHS tapes at rock bottom prices!

Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Caught Buying A Smoke In Ottawa

Some of you might be saying big deal, "so what if the Governator wishes to indulge in a fine cigar?"

Well here in Canada it's no problem provided no anti-smoking laws are broken, however it was not where Arnie was smoking that is the problem, but what was purchased to smoke.

Schwarzenegger reportedly bought a Cuban cigar....which are perfectly legal here, BUT due to a U.S embargo, means it's not only illegal to sell them in the U.S.A, but it's illegal for Americans to smoke them anywhere.

Ooooops!

Trash Or Treasure - A Day Spent Yard Sailing

Was a long morning, and afternoon attending various yard, and garage sales. Pictured above is your blog hostess, with some of my purchases including, a very nice period repro shelf for $2.00 bux.

A view of one of the vendor's tables, and some other shoppers. This particular sale is put on once a year by the community, and held at a local park. Proceeds from renting a table go to supporting the community centre. There are usually between 40-60 tables set-up, and scattered throughout the park.

It's a fun way to support the community, mingle with the neighbours, and find some interesting, often unique items!

How Important Is Google Page Rank?

If you have a business website or are making money through your blog, your page's Google Page Rank becomes an important consideration. And it is a good idea to to try to increase it as this will work towards increasing your success.

While I'm not certain exactly how Google calculates page rank (and believe me I've tried to find some good articles on it, in the past), I do know that backlinks or incoming links play a vital role. The better quality the links to your site, and the more numerous, the seemingly higher in page rank you are listed. Personally, I'd like to get a better grasp on it, and therefore will be looking into a free workshop being offered online.

If gaining a better understanding of Google Page Rank, and learning how to obtain better search engine rankings for your own site are of interest to you too, you may want to check out this free to download workshop that covers these topics. Just click on the link provided in this entry for further information. The workshops are developed, and provided by James Martell who has a strong expertise in increasing Page Rank and search engine listings.

Jackson Auction A Success On First Day

Memorabilia from the Jackson family pop dynasty has fetched about $500,000 (£252,800) on the first day of a two-day auction in Las Vegas according to a BBC news report. Read on:

Among the items sold was a black military-style coat belonging to Michael Jackson, which sold for $24,000 (£12,131) according to the auctioneers.

Jackson's MTV music award for song We Are The World fetched $16,000 (£8,087).

The Guernsey's Auction House sale at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino had over 1,100 items on offer.

It billed the two-day auction as the biggest-ever sale of Jackson family memorabilia, including clothes, music sheets and gold disc awards belonging to Michael, Janet, Jermaine, Tito and La Toya.

Full BBC Article Here

I was never a big fan of the Jacksons, even in the day when Michael was hugely popular. However, that jacket pictured above is quite snazzy! In fact I do own one that is very similar, and still wear it out on occasion. Love that military-style cut!

A Review of Loan Info Place

I had the opportunity to visit the aptly named website Loan Info Place earlier today, and check out some of the articles listed there. The site is very basic in design, and layout, but I have been told that it is a work in progress so the webmaster may decided to add some flashy stuff at later date.

Personally I am more interested in the quality of information provided on any given site as opposed to how much eye-candy is added. And Loan Info Place has some good articles posted on topics such as VA Home Loans, Disaster Relief, and Reverse Mortgages amongst a few others. They do give a good overview of the topics presented, and the plain black text, on white background is easy on the eyes.

Overall worthy of checking out in my own opinion.

Pine Cone Peso Creeps Up To The US Dollar

The Pine cone Peso (aka The Canadian dollar) will soon be at par with the USA according to the following news item. Read on:

Toronto - The Canadian dollar will be worth as much as the U.S. dollar by the end of the year, CIBC World Markets economists predicted.

The Canadian dollar was trading at close to 94-cents US, Friday morning.

Economists at CIBC have attributed this to an expected rise in Canadian interest rates and stronger-than-expected economic growth, along with hot commodity prices and an "avalanche" of corporate takeovers that require foreign acquirers to deal in Canadian dollars.

"We are seeing an avalanche of money coming into the country on merger and acquisition deals, which is all triggered by soaring commodity and energy prices," said Chief economist at CIBC, Jeff Rubin.

In a word this is going to really "suck" for Canadian sponsored bloggers who have been used to getting paid in US funds.

I can't even recall the last time we were at par with the greenback??? Sometime during 1976 when Disco was King, and Charlie's Angels, and Fantasy Island were hot on the tube.
