Earlier this past week I was speaking with a girlfriend of mine who had interviewed with a large financial institution. She was definitely qualified for the position being offered, but due to her poor credit rating. I was rather shocked by this, and I do not know if this is applicable outside of Canada, but apparently you can be declined a job within the financial services industry if you have a bad credit history.
As my regular readers know, I too had a bad credit rating at one time. When my own finances improved I did borrow again through what is known as a secured loan. I was advised to do this through someone else who had gone through similar circumstances as a way to repair bad credit.
Loans as I have blogged about in the past are something we all require at one time or another. In fact we are currently in a position again where we will be in need of borrowing money towards the middle child's education (she starts University next year).
Even my mother who has been very frugal throughout her life is considering a remortgage or home improvement loan in order to fix up her house add in some new storm windows, and siding, which will work towards increasing her property value. And she is a senior. See you can't escape the need to borrow money at times.
However much we do need them, for most people I think that loans can be a scary proposition. I would be lying to you if I did not state that getting into debt again (which I know I'm going to be) makes me a wee bit nervous.
I do hope within this entry though that I have illustrated to you how a loan can actually be very beneficial in ways you may have not even considered before, such as repairing a bad credit history. And let's face it good credit can even mean the difference between getting a specific type of job or not something even I just learned of.
Cheers!
Sue
