#11 - High-Five Fridays

My Eleventh High-Five Friday...

#5: Brain Freeze - Life in the Gray Lane by a "first wave" Baby Boomer.

Giving Penelope Anne from Café at the End of the Universe and Sandy Carlson from Writing in Faith a run for their money as my most frequent commenter, he gets a "High Five" this week for POSSIBLY calling me a "left wing, liberal, intellectual elitist" I think...? This would highly amuse my friends that find me too conservative for their liking! Anyway, it's all in good fun and I have a lot of respect for this fella, so HIGH FIVE for making your first "blogaversary"!

Nota Bella: This may have been phrased poorly... I never really did believe I was called a name by "DrillerAA"... in fact, I'm quite fond of him and his blog as I do believe he is of mine... The above was my attempt at jest... and I'm sorry if it failed.

#4: Christie St. Martin @ Funny Pages 2.0

Gotta hit Christie with another HIGH-FIVE for the "props" for posting the Doctor Who stuff. Posting the "blog link" on her Facebook got me some nice hits! Thanks and a HIGH-FIVE to Christie!

Bonus Points for making Sue happy with a threat of violence about a newspaper article... long story.

#3: imaginary magnitude

Y'know, I've never given Matt a "High-Five"... and he's the fella that helped Sue and I get started into blogging! So, allow me to make up for this oversight now!

#2: Special Nod to The Paranormal Blog

Okay, I know this is one of "my blogs"... but Sue is a big part of it and does the "memes" on it... including the link above to a "Wordless Wednesday - Tuesday Edition"... which proves that she not ONLY adopted the "bus dream" with me... but is now a bigger Doctor Who than I am! (Hint: Which of the two of us ACTUALLY has Doctor Who action figures on their desk? Answer: It ain't me!)

What's NOT to love about my Sue???

...although I do believe she has a "thing" for Capt. Jack... or The Daleks... or both!

#1: Ian's Bus Stop

This is THE best website on London Buses EVER. Period. All stop.

His work is exhaustive, extensive, and complete! (...and he's not a psychic! He says so himself!) If you have an interest in the subject, his is the ultimate place to check out in my opinion... and if you just like photos of old London buses (and new) it's also worth the visit. Ian has been VERY kind to this blog in the past and deserves a BIG HIGH FIVE for his work and efforts! (Not to mention that, like me, he codes his HTML in Notepad! Now that's cool!)

#10 - High-Five Fridays

My Tenth High-Five Friday...

I'm calling a one-week moratorium on High-Five next week... so this will be it almost mid-April! Please bear with me!

#5: Rick Mercer

Canadian Political Commentary (sorry friends from outside the Great White North,) with a sincere comedic and cynical edge! Rick Mercer is easily one of the most humorous political commentators in this country... oh, and he does skewer ALL sides of the political spectrum... but of course, when he makes fun of "X" or "Y", the zealots of "X" or "Y" seem to think he's aimed at them... which honestly isn't true... but what the heck, it's politics, right?

#4: FarShores

Another fantastic collection of news and articles on all types of paranormal news and articles. An excellent site for news and general things most consider odd and weird! Big High-Five for Farshores!

#3: Life at Stars Rest

This is a blog I literally "stumbled" across... and I love... I have a sincere soft-spot for dogs and horses... and the photos are amazing! It's a great blog to visit!

#2: DUAL WINNER!!! Dackel Princess and RennyBA's Terella

Next time you see a news item that says that the internet is bad or wrong... read this post and this post and you'll see that the internet really, Really, REALLY can bring people together! This is TOTALLY wonderful!!! BIG BIG BIG HIGH FIVE~!!!

#1: Real Talk!

The blog of my big sister! (Don't you notice the family resemblance?) Gotta give my bigus sissus props today for some much needed help she gave me recently. I'ze gots me a great big sis... and she deserves a BIG high-five!

#9 - High-Five Fridays

My Ninth High-Five Friday...

#5: Sandy Carlson at Writing in Faith

Easily one of the most prolific "commenters" in the blogsphere... and a prolific blogger as well! Ms. Carlson has done some wonderful and thought provoking posts... and is a genuine light on these here series of tubes we know as the interwebs! Sandy Carlson deserves a high-five just for being Sandy Carlson! She's one of the best!

#4: Andy at The Spicy Cauldron for this post (click here) about something we can do to PERHAPS send a message...

Sorry, I won't be watching the Olympics this year which ad revenue people might notice if enough of us say something. As much as I know it hurts the athletes, I cannot and will not support this.

#3: "He Who Cannot Be Named" again!

Okay, for those not in the know, when I mention "He Who's Name is Anathema to Hits", my hits go down about ten percent from normal. I honestly don't know why... but okay...

Anyway, Mr. You Know Who has a podcast, and showing he had a pair of stones bigger than all outdoors, the nervy bugger invited a rather questionable right-wing ardent Christian on the show... who's only eighteen. Now, Mr. Can't Be Named Here is not known for being too "Godly"... in fact, spoofing Jesus in various ways is a thing for him... and his audience is not exactly the kind that would warm Pat Roberston's heart. Anyway, things got ugly... and Mr. Stones Kinda Shrunk tried to keep it happy (EPIC FAIL) but I have to "High Five" him anyway for at least having the gumption to give this girl an outlet...

#2: Kyra at The Kyra Sutra

In relationship to my #3 above, this is Kyra who "got into it" a little with the person on "He Who Cannot Be Named's" podcast... and read this post (click here) to find out why I have a TONNE of respect for this lady! Bigtime High Five!

#1: Christie St.Martin's New Blog in the LA Times!

How cool is this gig? Toronto-girl and admitted geek, Christie St.Martin's blog, "Exhusticated", was a favourite stop of mine... she mined articles and "the funny" and I often shared links with others... it was like having a cool filter through Fark and a bunch of forums! Now she's blogging for the LA Times! HIGH-FIVE for Christie!

#8: - High Five Fridays

My Eighth High-Five Friday...

#5: Slash/Dot

As a professional geek nerd poindexter computer technician, you'd think working with high tech all day would be enough... but NOOOOOOOO! I still gotta see what's happenin' in the land of geek... and news... and things geek and news related... and Slash/Dot's my crack for that.

#4: Dead People Server

Sure, I know last week I admitted to being an amateur thanatologist, but this link offer something that makes it unique... Have you ever watched an old movie and wondered if what's his name was still sharing oxygen with us? Well, The DPS will let you know!

#3: The Crime Library - Serial Killers

Feeding my inner Dexter? Perhaps... or at least amusing my own dark passenger... anyway, I have a fascination with criminally deviant behaviour that stems from simply being overly empathic and not personally understanding how someone can kill without remorse... Ergo: I study and read...

#2: eBay... but a certain search query always is first with me...

What? You thinkin' I'm obsessed??? WELL... Maybe...

#1: New Scientist

I know, I know... I've been told that this is a "left-wing, moonbat, dumbass site for fear mongers" by one of my pro-pollution pals (Barney!) but indeed, it's a mag for those in {{gulp!}} actual peer-reviewed science! ...and no, contrary to the Barnster's thoughts, they cover a wide variety of topics... so like dotting the slash as I do in #5 above, this is a news resource that keeps me in the know... even if they lie, Lie, LIE about things! (Which they don't... but why spoil some people's fun?)

#7 - High Five Fridays

"High Five Fridays" is a GREAT meme... and was started by bloggers who deal in "erotica" and therefore, certain links may be of a more "Adult" variety... If you see the dreaded "NSFW" (Not Safe for Work) or "NWS" (Not Work Safe) and you're of a more delicate constitution, please do not click on those links. That said, this new "meme" is a great idea... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!

So, without further adieu... actually, this week... there IS further adieu...

Normally, I list blogs... today, just to stir the pot, I'm listing FIVE excellent websites that amuse, entertain, and enlighten me!

So, on that note...

My Seventh High-Five Friday...

#5: Is the PSICAN Message Board. If you're interested in ghosts, hauntings, UFOs, cryptozoology, psychical phenomena, and other things... it's a great place. Sure, it's my (and Sue's) website (we've been doing the "paranormal thing" for over a decade now)... and my (and Sue's) servers... and it MAY seem like "self promotion"... but I have about as much control over that message board as you would if you tried to herd cats.

The main PSICAN site (and group) is under serious renovations behind the scene... but the message board will remain... and Sue's site (ParaResearchers) and my site (Torontoghosts) are humming along.

WARNING: Yes, we take this stuff seriously... and we accept EVERYONE'S point of view and this means there are those who are true believers... and those who are non-believers (or "so-called sceptics")... and yet, flame wars are almost unheard of! It's a place to discuss, share, and yes, debate.

...so this is really a "High Five" to the "IRREGULARS" on the PSICAN Message Board.

#4: Staying in the realm of the paranormal, The Anomalist is a GREAT site that culls "paranormal news" from the mainstream and not-so mainstream sources. The amount of effort to comb through teh interwebs and grab these stories totally deserves a high-five!

#3: My one "guilty pleasure" is pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts... and my not-so-guilty, worth EVERY penny I pay for membership (less than eight-bucks a month) pleasure is the articles and podcasts from Figure Four Online.

Bryan Alvarez, Vincent Verhei, Mike Sempervive, and the good doctor, Keith Lipinski are all there brightening my commute with tales of mat-madness and brutal violence... er, good displays of athleticism.

#2: Okay, there's NO DOUBT our bus comes first... but should those lottery tickets in my wallet come in, that's when my next dream vehicles kicks in... and cruising the ads on Barnstormers make me feel all tingly like!

#1: I am a happily admitted thanatologist... and to feed my more macabre side, very little online brings me more joy than perusing Find-a-Death.

A great combination of gossip, trivia, and of course death... Scott Michaels has done an extraordinary job of maintaining an entertaining and fun website of the lives and, of course, the deaths (and details therein) of celebs and such. This site is WAY too fun. If you click on the "Directory" and start going through things, prepare to lose several hours... it's fantastic.

#6 - High Five Fridays

"High Five Fridays" is a GREAT meme... and was started by bloggers who deal in "erotica" and therefore, certain links may be of a more "Adult" variety... If you see the dreaded "NSFW" (Not Safe for Work) or "NWS" (Not Work Safe) and you're of a more delicate constitution, please do not click on those links. That said, this new "meme" is a great idea... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!

So, without further adieu...

My Sixth High-Five Friday...

#5: Y'know, I haven't really thanked (here on the HFF post) Ewen Pring of the RLH Information Centre Website... he's been a tonne of help with information and even his own documentation on Regent Low Height buses... if our "dream" does come true, Mr. Pring has been most helpful in preparing us as best he can... and if it does not, he's still the one who will make sure that, if possible, RLH 3, our "One Old Green Bus", will eventually find a good home.

#4: I gotta mention... no, wait... I can't mention him... he MUST remain "He Who Cannot Be Named"... because, statistically for some odd reason, I mention his name and WHAMMO! Hits go down by about a third... it's freaky!

None-the-less, "He Who Cannot Be Named" has been a blogger who I can count on for much merriment... many laughs... and the occasional guffaw... and unbeknownst to him (as he's not a regular reader here... despite what he says...) he's someone I can use as a comic foil for when I need to make a smart-alec comment (see below... my "Thursday Thirteen"... #2 and #1...)

Yup, a big high-five to Mr. Fa... er... "He Who Cannot Be Named"!

Oh, and if he reads this, it's obvious you were killed by Canadians who finally just couldn't take your ABUSE anymore.

#3: Trish! Come back to the blogsphere! We miss you muchly!

#2: Bill Blunt tells it like it is! (A great and fun blog deserving of a "High Five" for a man and a blog who's been a friend to our dream!)

#1: Our Numero Uno "High Fiver" though goes to Comedy Plus who bestowed upon me the honour of being mentioned as a blogs that aren't in my blogroll, but I see all over cyberspace.

I actually really appreciated that... it's a nice pat-on-the-back and bears up to the fact that my hits are very, very good... although my success at finding a way to make our dream come true has "bitten". (As I said on Thursday... Good at PR... lousy at everything else.)

So, many, Many, MANY thanks, Sandee of Comedy Plus... not only for the honour, but for the great inspiration for a fun "Thursday Thirteen" that people seem to have really enjoyed! (Yesterday's... scroll down to read...)

#5 - High Five Fridays

That said, this new "meme" is a great idea... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!

So, without further adieu...

My Fifth High-Five Friday...

#5: Okay, this one's almost JUST to irritate "Barney" (a blogger who's seriously missing more than a few points,) and folks like him... but seriously, I've come to greatly respect Warren Kinsella just for ensuring that the good fights keep being fought!

#4: Andy at The Spicy Caudron deserves a "High-Five" for two HUGE reasons this week... firstly, getting Sue and I to watch an enjoyable "pilot" program from the Beeb called "Being Human"... which is a quirky drama... which has major room for laughs... but is still a drama... let me put it this way... um...

Okay, a vampire and a werewolf move into a haunted flat (apartment for those not in the know,) and befriend the resident ghost.

...and yes, it's a drama.

It was good!

Ten'll get you twenty that Hollywood will pick up the show, re-cast it, and it'll be a pale "Buffy" rip-off within two seasons.

Anyway, Andy also introduced us to "The Blobs" which are little animated "creatures" Beeb3 puts in their station liners... sadly, he mentioned them because they are "no more"... see below (which I hope brings you as much silly joy as it brought me...)

Like I said, however... According to Andy, the "Blobs" are no more... which is VERY sad... Click here for details.

Ach! Have another Blobby Video!!!

Well, I liked 'em!

#3: A "High-Five" and "Get Well Soon" to Lance Evers... better known as Lance Storm... from Calgary... Alberta... CANADA. Despite "hanging up the tights" a while back, Storm continues to be a prolific and interesting writer... as well as a heck of a "guest" on a few wraslin' radio programs. Lance is having his knee scoped so, as a fan, this "High Five", as stated, is a "Get Well Soon!" to boot!

If he ever reads this... if he could answer one question... when does he figger Don Callis will start blogging and will he and Callis try to kill the blogsphere???

Please note: Lance also has a great book club on his blog/website... worth the read!

#2: Proof positive that I'm non-partisan in my politics is my next High-Five which goes out to Blandly Urbane at DemediaCratic Nation!

Blandly has supported the dream since pretty much the begining and has been a good friend to the busly thang... this despite his odd spelling of "shtuff"... I believe he spells it "schtuogh" or the like... anyway, a big "High-Five" goes out to him for all his help!

#1: My number ONE high-five WITH A BULLET is someone who has believed in our dream and been most helpful! She's even taking the brunt of "Barney's" bluster (the blogger who's been the catalyst for much stupidity 'round the bus yard,) because she too is a friend to the environement...

So a HUGE honkin' High Five to Cybercelt!

A prolific blogger and a dear friend.

#4 - High-Five Fridays!

That said, this new "meme" is a great idea... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!

So, without further adieu...

My Fourth High-Five Friday...

Saskboy comes in first just because of this marvellous post about the animosity of political bloggers... and their fierceness... and he's another "Pollution is Bad and NOT a Political Philosophy" types like myself!

Oddly enough, Saskboy kinda offended my next "high-five" blogger, Canadian Cynic, who gets a "High Five" from me this week because it is a breath of fresh air for this moderate to find someone OTHER than a hard-right-wing blogger out there... or at least, it seems that the uber-right make up the lion's share of the blogsphere... so it was GREAT to read some rants on the OTHER side of the fence for a change.

Granted, in all honesty, "CC" wouldn't like me very much on a hunch... I swing to the right on a lot of issues... and I do believe that paranormal events actually are experienced by people (I believe "CC" is a humanist... or atheist... but I could be wrong).

Anyway, should "CC" read this, please DO note that we have an EXCELLENT working relationship with the fine folks at Skeptics(sic) Canada... they tolerate us... and haven't slammed us... honest! We've had the current and former chairs over for coffee at our place even! (This probably won't help my cause with "CC"... but he still gets a "High-Five"!)

Dancing Rainbows Tie-Dye gets a High-Five for the excellent work on the shirts... and for the great e-mails sent our way... and because she's a fellow bus-enthusiast (and former Double Decker driver!!!) Winning combination! She gotta write a book one day.

The Good Reverend Anaglyph almost made milk come out of my nose with this post on his blog, Tethered Cow Ahead. That deserves a high-five... and a hanky for my keyboard...

And a BIG HIGH-FIVE to Nicholas at A Gentleman's Domain for TWO BIG WEEKS IN A ROW of "Thursday Thirteens" that were NOT trying to sell DVDs or books from Amazon! {Grins!} Seriously, his is a fine blog and well worth the visit!

My Third High-Five Friday...

#5: If you HAVE to lose an award (in spectacular fashion,) it should always be to a blog like Live From Waterloo! (This ain't sarcasm, it's a great blog and Gabriel is a fine, fine person!)

My personal variation of the award as awarded to me...

#4: Speaking of the award, I would like to say "Congrats" to the other bloggers who were in the running for "Best Blog Post Series" with me! All of them top-notch blogs and I honestly was honoured to be in that group!

#3: If you wanna see people REALLY doing their homework in terms of the environment, I have nothing but admiration for The DeSmog Blog which is an excellent information source on all things climatic!

#2: (Not a paid endorsement...) The Mad Gringo deserves a big high-five... just 'cuz! (Go slow, folks!) The Mad Gringo rocks. Period. Yeah~!

#1: I haven't been paying enough to an old blogging friend... and that's Threecollie at Northview Diary. From pretty much DAY ONE Threecollie has been a friend to us on the blogsphere and like me, is good for almost daily updates! I will be by shortly, Threecollie... and sorry I've been so silent of late!

Nota Bella: I won't be doing a "Busly Saturday" tomorrow... instead, I'll be answering the big question(s) posed on my Tuesday "Tagged" Post... Stay TUNED!

#2 - High-Five Fridays!

Before I get started today... after the week we've had, I'm kinda HALF taking a day off tomorrow. There will be a post tomorrow... a small one... one that will have you SINGING and DANCING, I'm certain... but I'll be honest, I put it up with a "time stamp" last night and am taking a day to the kid and Sue... That said...

__________________________________________________________

"High Five Fridays" is a a GREAT mem in my estimation... and was started by bloggers who deal in "erotica" and therefore, certain links may be of a more "Adult" variety... If you see the dreaded "NSFW" (Not Safe for Work) or "NWS" (Not Work Safe) and you're of a more delicate constitution, please do not click on those links. That said, this new "meme" has a lot of potential... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!

So, without further adieu...

My Second High-Five Friday...

#5: I have to give a "high-five" and a general "shout-out" to one of my favourite blogs, The Yellow Dog Granny, who has yet to fail to put a smile on my face! I mean, thanks to her I'm often caught saying "F*ckety-f*ck-f*ck!" and you gotta love anyone who names their cat "Little A$$hole".

#4: One to MsDemmie who always knows the right thing to say to cheer me and Sue up!

#3: The Canadian Blog Awards... At the time of writing this, I'm not sure if I'm a "winner" yet... but it's looking good... and I have looked at the competition and WOW! It really IS an honour just to be in the running!!!

#2: Speaking of the blog awards, thanks to James Bow for the vote of confidence! It's always good to hear of another person passionate with Canada's history!

...and number one this week...

#1: Seems like a cop-out and everyone pretty much knows them, but DEAR GOD don't most of us owe a smile or dozen to I Can Haz Cheezburger? One of the most-sung (and deservedly so!) blogs/websites out there... and it's a RARE day I don't find something wonderful on it!

Sue felt, with some reason, that a wee caveat come into play here... This meme is a good one... a GREAT one in my estimation... and was started by bloggers who deal in "erotica" and therefore, certain links may be of a more "Adult" variety...

In a nutshell, if a blog or blogger deserves a wee pat on the back for ANYTHING, this is the "day" and meme in which to do it! Effectively, every Friday, I'm going to do a link and quick happy blurb about a blog or blogger who I feel needs a bit of attention and kudos...

So, without further adieu...

My FIRST High-Five Friday...

#5: Without saying a word to me about it, my first kudo (and the person who led me to this meme,) asked her reader to help me in my quest for a Canadian Blog Award... and if not for Technorati, I would have missed their help! So please, take a few minutes to visit Motherhood Metamorphosis!

#4: Tim at Bloggerista.Net deserves a "High-Five" for fighting the good fight with the page rank debacle. The cutting of our page rank has literally chomped into our life as Sue so eloquently put it on this post. I appreciate Tim for being VERY proactive rather than strictly reactive.

#3: One of this blog's biggest recent supporters is Penelope Anne from Café at the End of the Universe. She's a constant (and appreciated) commenter... and has been very nice and supportive!

#2: I have to say a HUGE thank you for creative spurring and genuine interest in what many see as a rather uninteresting topic (of this blog) to Stacey at The Travels of Stacey. Her posts (indirectly) about our "fetish"(?) - double-decker buses - made me remember the fine work from the folks at South East Coach Works... and I was glad to blog about 'em the other day!

#1: Since this is my FIRST "High-Five Friday" and as much as I'd like to say some words about MsDemmie, Andy, and even "He Who Cannot Be Named"... and many, MANY others... I would be a complete and utter moron not to ensure that I said the biggest thanks to the author of Life in the Urban Zoo, Pastymes with Good Companye, and Nuttin' But Pimp... and my partner in pretty much everything... the person who adopted "The Busly Dream" and has worked as hard (if not harder at times,) than me... and that's Sue.

Think about this, fellow bloggers... it was me that convinced Sue to start blogging...

So, you figure she accepted and adopted the bus dream, puts up with me, and got started blogging because of me... it's a miracle I haven't been murdered in my sleep!!!

Any woman like that deserves far more than a simple "High-Five"... but for today, it's the best I can muster.

Should we go back to concentrating on and letting folks know how things are going with our bus? (Kinda back to the good ol' days?)
