For some, this is going to be the least popular post I've ever written... but it is cathartic.

Two men I have met before... both not well enough to truly call "friend" or even "good acquaintance" have come into my thoughts today.

The first is Chris Benoit.

Mr. Benoit was a professional wrestler considered by many to be the best in the business. He was considered a gentleman, a sportsman, and a genuinely nice fellow. He devoted a lot of time to charities and took time to thank his fans... he was also found dead at the age of forty on Monday in his home... dead with him was his wife and their seven year old son. I sadly will have to return to this part after the next introduction...

The second is Jeff Marek.

I first found out about Jeff from his radio show, Live Audio Wrestling which is a weekly broadcast about the comings and goings of professional wrestling and MMA. I don't know if this is still a compliment, but in wrestling journalism, there's one man that's considered the "king" of the hill... and that's Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer... and Mr. Meltzer once referred to Mr. Marek as the most knowledgeable man in wrestling which I saw, when I heard it as high praise... and indeed warranted. Marek left his wrestling show and really moved away from pro-wrestling and concentrated on his new program, "The Leaf's Lunch" which is hockey oriented.

Mr. Marek was a legitimate friend of Chris Benoit... and took his death very hard... but something from his broadcast, where he slipped from hockey back into wrestling to have a cathartic moment, made me think...

Right now, and I TRULY hope this is wrong, it looks as if Benoit went home on Saturday and took the life of his wife... on Sunday, he took the life of his young son... on Monday, he took his own life.

That's when the police found the bodies...

This is the "scuttlebut" as of writing this... and it could be wrong... but it sure doesn't look like it is.

The only certainty is that there were no guns involved and the police are openly saying that the facts, as they appear, will be "bizarre."

This is not good news.

Mr. Marek addressed this... and stood by his friend which is normal and laudable... but I couldn't help but wonder as I heard him talk about how this was, if true, a mistake... and how we all make "mistakes"... that no, thankfully, we don't all make this type of mistake. In fact, God bless, these types of "mistakes" are very rare.

As the truth comes out, people are saying the Benoit was obviously "troubled"... "confused"... "having serious problems"...

Here's the "HATE MATTHEW" bit...

If what is reckoned is true, how "troubled", "confused", and "having serious problems" is killing one's wife, one's young child, and then one's self?

Had this not been a "friend" to Marek, I'm sure he'd be denouncing him as a monster... instead, if one said that Benoit was a horrid killer, I'm sure they'd be told You didn't know the man.

I don't doubt this... I didn't know the man... and I'm sure, from what I've heard, this IS like a bolt of horrible, terrible lightning to those who knew him best.

...but one wonders, can the same be said about Ted Bundy to his friends? How about Paul Bernardo and Karla Holmolka? How about Clifford Olsen? Seung-hui Cho? Claus von Bülow? I could extend this list...

How many of these people had friends that said to others that they didn't know them.

Had Ted Bundy been a "good celebrity", would he have people simply saying he was "disturbed"?

Sadly, I think the answer is yes.

Is Chris Benoit a "monster" if he did do these terrible things?

What's weird is, I'd say not... we were fortunate enough to know of his life before the incident and all signs are that something "snapped"...

...but how many other people "snapped" and are not alloted the same courtesy of defence from the masses because, no, we didn't know them.

I really, REALLY hope I'll eat crow over this post and the truth will say that he was not as "involved" with this act... but if he was, he killed his young son... and as a parent (albeit a step-parent,) I cannot help but think this is a monstrous act...

...and how would you define a "monster"?

If you're wondering, I time stamped this... I wrote it yesterday at 7pm... and this was posted yesterday evening on the Figure Four Weekly website which I saw after I wrote my original post above...

ESPN.com is now reporting new horrifying details, including the manner of Nancy's death and the fact that there were needle marks in Daniel's arms, likely the result of the family injecting him with Human Growth Hormone.

The following are notes from this afternoon's Chris Benoit press conference. Thanks very much to Admin Tony for writing it up.

Around 2:30pm on Sunday welfare call from employers to police.

Autopsies, ruled as a double homicide/suicide. Possibly Friday murdered his wife, then shortly after killed his son. Then killed himself Saturday possibly early Sunday. No suicide note. Asphyxiation on all three as the cause of death. Son was in his bed. Wife was in an family room upstairs.

One arrest for DUI on Benoit. Cops did not have knowledge of domestic violence arrests at that time. A lot of perscription medication, believed to be legal. Did not disclose if there were steroids.

No motive discussed. Would not elaborate on the text message(s).

Wife was bound by her feet.

There was a bible near the body of her wife and one by her son.

It appears my segment on CBS was scrapped. It was taped before the press conference, so most likely most of what I said was outdated within 30 minutes.

I finally did the audio news update around two hours ago. It really did a number on the website as we had hundreds and hundreds of simultaneous downloads. If the site is slow or the download didn't finish, it'll probably be OK in a few hours. We're doing all we can, but we've never been hit like this before.

I got home and read the news via a friend's message...

All I can tell anyone right now is that WCW, ECW, and WWE wrestler, Chris Benoit, "The Canadian Crippler" and easily one of the best technical wrestlers in the world was found dead (as was his wife and son) in their home today.

There are no other details available right now...

Benoit was forty years old.

WWE.com is now reporting that police have ruled the death of the Benoit family a double homicide/suicide from within the home.

Most major news outlets are now reporting that the belief is that Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, Daniel on Sunday, and himself on Monday. It is being reported that "the instruments of death" were found inside the house, and that all three bodies were found in different rooms.

"The details, when they come out," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard, "are going to prove a little bizarre."

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not be available for some time. A timeline should be established, however, which should answer many questions.

#2: THE MAN-MONSTER-BEAST HYDRA

With a build like his and the athletic prowess, Hydra is a FORCE to be RECKONED WITH! Hydra, I assume through an interpreter, has threatened to EAT THE BUS (scroll down if you click the link) once he and Ultramantis (and their buddy, Crossbones,) are through with it!

#3: KEN THE BOX (AKA Bokugin Ken; Mokojin Ken)

What can be said about a tree... or man... or wooden box... AND a grappler!!! I'd say he'd become Sue's favourite... except the next guy exists...

#4: MECHA MUMMY

mark: (noun) - Term that can be applied to a fan who idolizes a particular wrestler, promotion, or style of wrestling to a point some might consider excessive.

Okay, we've TRIED to have fun with the great UltraMantis Black and Hydra... and... well... let's be honest. See the definition above? Well, that's me...

To be truthful, I am a fan or "mark" for both men... and yeah, The Order of the Neo Solar Temple is GREAT... actually, for all the fine workers of Chikara Pro... and I recommend ANY fan of good grappling to check out SmartMarkVideo and consider picking up one of their DVDs or tapes.
