Thursday Thirteen: Not Doin' The Dinner Thang!

Ah, I run back to the original "Book of Lists" for an idea... which I've done a similar list like the one I'm doing now before... but this time, IN REVERSE!

Yup, I've told you who I'd LOVE to do dinner with, now let me tell you who I would say We'd love to, but sorry... we're sorting our sock drawer that day!

I'm going to skip over obvious ones like Hitler, Stalin, Bernardo, Olson, and all my ex-girlfriends together... and go with a list that may contain some name you may not be familiar with... but you soon will be!

So, without further adieu, here's...

THIRTEEN PEOPLE I DO NOT WANT TO
HAVE DINNER WITH

#13: Michel Lotito

...only for fear of losing my silverware, table, pets... anything that isn't nailed down... and even then.

#12: Mr. Patrick Edwards

In my opinion, the world doesn't need any Routemaster haters!

#11: Rev. Fred Phelps

I have a DISTINCT impression that his and his followers version of "hate" is not really based anywhere other than in lawsuits, I'd fear that I'd lose it and end up in court for "stifling his legal right" to be a complete cretin.

#10: Bill O'Reilly

Because I am a historian... amongst other reasons.

#9: Ingrid Newkirk

PETAs founder and I do not share a lot of common philosophies... like I don't believe in harming animals and she... well...

#8: (The Late) Ed and (The Not-Late) Lorraine Warren

I hate picking on folks who aren't around anymore... but these two "demonologists" set a money-grabbing and "stretching-the-truth" tone that has set back my study centuries in many of the educated public's eyes. Click here to see what I mean.

#7: Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney

Now, I know... I'm picking on a certain type of people again... and I do apologise... but something in my guts tells me that when all the smoke clears (and it could be a LONG while,) we will really get a clear indication of certain things relating to choices in the Bush administration and the company he "didn't have anything to do with anymore" Haliburton... and it really, Really, REALLY won't be good... and America and the world will not be amused at all.

#6: Ann Coulter

Where do I start here? Well, the easiest is to note that as a proud Canadian, I really, Really, REALLY dislike her... unless she finally 'fesses up to being a socialist plant to discredit the Right with her stupidity.

The dinner disinvite goes double if she's bringing a date.

#5: Kellie Pickler

Sorry, if you don't know why, allow me to remind you...

#4: Nannie "The Giggling Granny" Doss

We all have "grannies" that cook for us... most are good... and then, there's this one. I know she SHOULD qualify in my "Ain't Doin' Serial Killers" bit, but there's something really eerie about a killer named "The Giggling Granny".

#3: Mary "Typhoid Mary" Mallon

Y'know, I'd be more forgiving of good ol' Typhoid Mary... if she hadn't made the same (and caught doing it) mistake MORE THAN ONCE.

#2: Pretty much everyone on this list...

Aside from being politically opposite, these folks have done much that is truly SCREAMworthy...

Definitely some good choices. Ah the Warrens, I'd like to give them a talking to though.
I would have to say Jeffrey Dahmer & Ed Gein would be on my list.
FYI my husband's grandfather used to have dinner and play cards with Gein.

Hello Penelope Anne... I was avoiding serial killers where I could... although Gein would be pretty close to my list too! One wonders what REALLY went through his mind when he lost at cards? (Eep!)

I completely agree with you on who not to invite to dinner. In fact, I wouldn't throw food to any of those people if they were starving. Ok, I probably would, but I hope they wouldn't enjoy the taste too much.

You know what's so astonishing about most of those obnoxious reactionaries is that they really do seem to believe that Jesus is 100% behind them in their hatred and bigotry.

Allow me to start with we do not own nor are we selling a bus. Just had to get that out...

This blog was started in April of 2006... during a very bad time for me and my family when money was very tight and life was very hard.

We maintained a happier outlook on life by fantasizing... talking about what we would do when times were better... and as Sue and myself are Anglophiles, England factored greatly into our "plans".

During these bad times, while looking at news items which, at the time included items about London removing their venerable old Routemasters, I came across one photo of an old green bus... and somehow, my whole family adopted it. It became very much "our bus". (Details about "our bus" are available by clicking here.)

Like most of you, I'd heard about the fellow who'd made a million dollars selling tiny ads online... and the fellow who did trades and turned a paper clip into a house... so I thought, since we couldn't make our bus actually into "our bus" (well beyond our means,) I'd try an "online" appeal... to make the focused item of our hopes into a tangible thing in our lives...

More specifically, in a burst of adult/juvenile optimism, I had hoped to show the youngest member of the family, who at the time was still very youthful and impressionable, that dreams really could become reality if you hope and, more importantly, try.

Well, I'm pretty sure you figured it out... we had limited succes in this venture... and the youngest has now reached an age where she is more traditionally "teenaged" cynical than much else about the world, which isn't a dreadful thing... but there's a "good news" portion to this... our personal situation with money is better, life has improved, and some people really liked my rambling here... so, I decided to keep things going... Yes, I will "give up" on asking for help on a bus... and have to give up on even trying as hard to get the bus through online means... and yes, be far more realistic... but I don't mind this "turn" of things as I actually enjoy venting, trying my hand at humour, and generally keeping on online presence outside my usual things.

Thanks to those who were/are "Busly Dream" enthusiasts... I suppose that our buses for now will be single-deck with the letters "TTC" emblazoned on them... but this blog will live as does our dream! (It's just a little quieter on that latter bit...)
