Meh! The ultimate in half-butt postings...

Yup, this is the ultimate in half-butt postings... Reason, my netbook... my Wind... needed to re-install the operating system... not for any emergency, but because some new things at werk require a different operating system than what I had...

So, I'm bereft of a post today while I hunt up drivers, re-install software, run updates, and generally get grumpy at having to do so much darned work on the darned thing.

Still, I don't want to leave you wanting... so here's a picture of a cat with a slice of cheese on its head.

You can't go wrong with the classics, eh?

Doctor Who Monday: BlogtorWho No More?

Lord knows I've had issues... mostly with my hobby sites... and I've kvetched about it enough... but the folks running the Blogror Who blog have chucked in the towel citing being ripped off one too many times without credit. I should, perhaps, say that at the time of composing this post they had decided to shut down as I do tend to start these things, save them, then add to them over the week.

I doubt anyone with an original site or blog hasn't experienced this... people effectively "stealing" from you without credit or a link... making it seem like your efforts are their own... and yeah, it's exasperating... but I hope that the folks at Blogtor Who, like all of us have in the past, are just suffering a "snit" and taking an extreme measure to something that is a mild inconvenience.

Whenever I've borrowed something, I've tried to credit back... and always send an e-mail to ask permission first (if permission hasn't already been established somehow,) and if I have decided to go ahead and use something without getting a response, I've always...

a: Credited/Linked back to the originator.

b: Offered to remove stuff "post haste" without issue within 48 hours of the request from the originator.

Heck, I even have proof of that here... (...and with this guy, I linked to his online shop for his art and tried to send him business... and this was only AFTER his e-mail addressed - the one I sent the request to use the images - proved wrong... to be honest, he was not-so-nice about his request initially, but I complied anyway...)

Anyway, for most of us, as it says in my wee blurb below, we can fall back on "Fair Use"/"Fair Dealing" for now, but let's face it... that's a cop-out and may not entirely apply to all situations... most certainly not if no credit to the original source is given... and even still, you'd think with SOME people, it would kill them to give a link-back, credit, and a "hat tip" to whom they owe the borrowed content on their site.

Either way, I do sincerely hope that "Blogtor Who" might consider a return... if they haven't returned already... I know a lot of us *DID* give you the credit you deserved... and hopefully, those moments will outshine those who did not.

Oh, and if you read this, consider sending an e-mail or comment to those folks who didn't credit... let 'em know you know that they have pilfered without consent!

News? Well... I GOTS SOME!

First of all, MANY sites have said it already, but if you didn't know, the NEXT Doctor Who special at Christmas WILL be titled...

The Next Doctor

...take that as you will considering David Morrissey HAS been a popular name bandied about to play the eleventh incarnation of "The Doctor" on David Tennant's departure... and yes, Mr. Morrissey is in the special.

Scuttlebut now says that Jane Tranter, past head of BBC Drama and now off in Los Angeles heading up BBC America, might be trying to create/tailor a NEW Doctor Who for American audiences. Be afraid, be very afraid...

Cybermen on the TARDIS!?! The aforementioned Blogtor Who showed 'em first, but io9 has some "out-take" still photos from what was supposed to be in the finale of Season Four... Scuttlebutt on this is that THESE were supposed to be the "What? What!? WHAT!?!" moments at the end of the show as they've done in the past... but they kept it out... which is a good thing as the finale stands lovely on it's own. (Yes, I've come around and changed my mind...)

Think that Internet Fandom is "Harmless"? Check out The Doctor Who Forum...

Allow me to say...

  • Murray Gold is FANTASTIC! The soundtrack stands alone which is phenomenal!
  • Helen Raynor's work was excellent and entertaining and our family enjoyed it thoroughly!
  • Russell T. Davies is an amazing writer and overall creative genius!
  • Noel Clarke's performance has been outstanding... and getting better every time he steps into his given role!

...and if anyone doesn't agree with me, I'll meet you out back of a local pub!

...although, Mr. Davies... Russell Tovey? New Doctor? Um... Look, I do like the man... but no. Not yet.

Me want... and Christmas is coming, Sue...

...of course, again thanks to the (hopefully not for long) defunct Blogtor Who site mentioned above, there's THIS too for a Christmas gift idea...

...and really, what says Christmas more than cuddling up to a warm Dalek?

...and David Tennant, good call... because it could have been an enormous fart in church... but it STILL could have been very entertaining if done right. (J.K's world "comes to life" and the Doctor needs to sort it out? how much fun is THAT!?!)

...plus, I did like RTD's idea... we've done Dickens, Shakespeare, and Agatha Christie... let's do a living writer... Something to show kids that although the past has created "The Greats", we have some "Greats" sharing oxygen with us right now!

...hmmm... and American Doctor Who... Living writer... Writer's fiction comes to real life...

...nevermind.

Last little bit of scuttlebutt... According to a reputable source on the Doctor Who Forum, it seems a British actor well known to American audiences has been "engaged" to play a big role in upcoming Doctor Who episodes... but I won't spoil it by saying which one.

Oops.

Many thanks to the hopefully-not-defunct-for-long Blogtor Who, Planet Gallifrey, Outpost Gallifrey, io9, BBC, Sylvester McCoy's Unofficial Site, and good ol' PBS for the image of David Morrissey I used.

Thou hast been warned...

It's time to do my regular cleaning up of links and such... basically, I like to keep my sidebar as uncluttered (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) as possible...

Basically, if I visit your link and there's been NO blog activity for eight weeks, I'm deleting it... NOT in spite and NOT in anger... just cleaning up a little.

If your blog HAS NOT been active for eight weeks BUT you have a really good excuse AND don't want me to take the nasty "delete" button to the link, let me know in an e-mail or comment below...

Sunday is "C" day (for "C"leaning...) so you've been warned...

In other news...

Check out my poll on the side bar... just scroll and you'll see it... let me know your opinion... I'm rather interested to find out how people are finding the "Less-Beggy-More-Bloggish-Like" Old Green Bus Blog...

This isn't NECESSARILY meaning I'm thinking of reverting back to the old ways, but just to gauge the temperature out there in the Blogsphere...

...because, as you know (I HOPE,) I really haven't given up on our dream!

Gotta be petty here... but it's a constant annoyance!

Below is a screen shot of a blog... not necessarily a good blog, but a blog none the less...

Now "blog" is a contraction of the "nouveaux" word, "weblog" or a "log" (meaning "journal") on the world wide "web".

You might notice that it's not a weblogo... or even a blogo... but a weblog or blog.

That said, below is a sphere...

It's a geometric shape... round... consisting of three dimensions. Think "ball" when looking at it.

Usually, in common linguistics, when one refers to a "sphere", the image that pops into mind is of our own planet... or the world...

Good ol' Earth... and although the Earth isn't a REAL sphere (it's a bit off from being a perfect sphere,) to say that the world is a sphere is not unacceptable.

Either way, it's not the Oearth... nor an Osphere... or even an Oball.

Putting this all together, to talk about the mass "world of weblogs", you might combine the word "sphere" with "blog"...

THAT SAID... why is it almost ALWAYS referred to as the BLOG-O-SPHERE... the blogosphere... not only on blogs themselves, but in the popular media?

Where did that errant "O" come from???

Now, had it been called the "Sphere O' Blogs", using the "O" as a folksy contraction of the word "OF", I might be a touch more understanding... I could even handle sphereoblogs as a possible word...

...but blogosphere?

Argh!

Etymology is our friend, people!!!

...and it ain't an osphere... nor are they blogos...

I'm fighting a losing battle, aren't I?

Thursday Thirteen: Yet More Randomness!

THURSDAY THIRTEEN!

I was to darned serious on my return to normal blogging on Tuesday this week, so I wanted to bring a little bit of teh funneh back... the question is, how? I couldn't think of anything terribly witty... I was thinking about "Thirteen Very Thin Books" and listing things like Environmental Awareness, Social Conscience, International Affairs, Employee Relations, Victims Rights, and How to Win Friends and Influence People by Sarah Palin... but I know that would end up ruffling feathers... so I fell back on something I've done in the past... "Google" the words BLOG and MEME... select thirteen random questions from thirteen different sources... and then present...

THIRTEEN RANDOM ANSWERS TO
THIRTEEN RANDOM QUESTIONS FROM
THIRTEEN RANDOM MEMES

#13: What is the one place on Earth you want to visit before you die?

How about the doctor, hospital, clinic, whatever that can stave off my impending death?

#12: Do you believe in angels?

Yup, but I have to admit, although Francisco Rodriguez has done an amazing job in saves, when it comes down to it, the Rays and Cubbies will probably be doing a lot better in the stretch... although I do expect them to get their home field advantage. (Most of my non-American readers are now utterly scratching their heads.)

#11: What are you doing right now?

Well, as someone who believes in the infinite possibilities of the multiverse and that the time-space fabric is most likely not static and is constantly in a state of flux creating new and different possible universes with every flip of a possibility/reality, I can honestly say that right now, as you're reading this, I'm doing nothing and everything at the exact same moment.

#10: What was the last drink you drank?

OH MY GOD!?! It was my LAST DRINK!!?!?! ...and I had to pick tap water!

#9: What were you doing at 9am today?

Hmmm... I believe I was either banging my head very hard against a granite surface for several minutes... or I was starting my day at work. It's hard to tell... they both make me feel pretty much the same way.

#8: What are you listening to?

The sound of hundreds of "Thursday Thirteen" readers getting really bored at my lame attempts at humour.

#7: What would you do if the world was going to end right now?

Oh... RIGHT now? That would be "Plan 3X-12B R36"... I can't tell you more than that... but as you're breathing your last and you hear a loud roar like a rocket taking off and someone yelling So long, suckers!, that would be me.

#6: What was your last trip to the hospital for?

Again, it was my LAST TRIP!?! Geez, everything is so final!!! Anyway, who's to say they let me out? Y'know, a good technician CAN find a way to use a computer and wifi even in a straight jacket...

#5: How are you doing?

I was okay... but then I found out the world is ending and I haven't gotten the rocket fueled up... but if that wasn't enough, I had my last drink AND my last trip to the hospital already!!! ...or is this all a hallucination because the darned nurse is late with my pills...

#4: What do you believe God's ultimate message is to all of mankind?

"Sorry for the inconvenience."

Rest in Peace, Mr. Adams... and sorry to steal the line, but let's face it... it's perfect.

#3: Do you believe that we can achieve a variance smaller than the one speculated in Planck's constant in terms of relative theory within the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics?

I thought I did once... but then I realised I forgot to carry the two... and reality, as we know it, dissolved in a vaporous cloud of poor mathematical logic. Yeah, it took me weeks to sweep that up... won't be doing that again!

#2: What song defines your personality best?

I'm tempted to say They're Coming to Take Me Away by Napoleon XIV... but it's too sad a song to really convey my inner-self... so I pick The Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe.

#1: Do u listen 2 muzik?

Ah, Google... leave it to you to find the truly intellectual memes out there... to find someone who, at their heart, knows how to ask... nay, convey their message of learning about their fellow electronic travellers' love of the muses of Terpsichore! How I delight in the gentle strains of the question... what emotions it brings to the fore... but allow me, if possible, to answer this in an appropriate manner befitting such a well rendered question from said meme... perhaps, as best I can, offer up a question with which to spark the mind of the gentle soul who composed this wonderful statement...

Has anyone said "NO" to this question?

Y'know, I'd have been more charitable with this answer had it not been posed on a STUDENTS WEBSITE FOR A LARGE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY!

Ugh.

Our leaders of tomorrow people... be afraid... be very afraid.

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

Kinda Wordless Wednesday: Time travel... how's that working out for you?

In a surprise move, with the imminent announcement of David Tennants departure, Russel T. Davies and Stephen Moffat have announced the selection of the eleventh person to play the role of the much vaunted "Doctor" in the re-booted series "Doctor Who"... The selection shows an obvious slant towards trying to cultivate more viewer numbers in the American market for the program...

In the first episode, the story will feature Davros consistently telling "The Doctor", You don't know me! to which the doctor talks to Davros about respecting his parents, other people's personal space, and coming to terms with his shortcomings... and setting achievable goals.

A sample of the script is below...

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Doctor: So you went out, and tried to destroy everything in the universe... reality itself... just to make your own creation the only thing out there... How'd that work out for ya?

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Doctor: Parents: I'd like to take a moment to point out that it's the level of entitlement that Davros has had that makes him think his actions were "o.k." We need to teach every child... be they Earthling or Kaled... that you can only achieve things through hard work and sacrifice. Destroying reality may seem like a good idea... or fun... but really, will it accomplish anything in the long run? We're going to post a 1-800 number for people to call for extra help...

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

This post made exactly 15% of my readers laugh... Sometimes, that's GOT to be enough... 'cuz it amused me too!

Healthy at last, healthy at last! Thank God almighty, I'm healthy at last!

S'interesting taking some time off from blogging... becoming a reader more than a writer... rather eye opening too.

First off, yes, I seem to be back to 100% health! Full of the proverbial whiz and vinegar... still, boy my eyes have seen the glory of some pretty thought and emotion provoking stuff...

If I may, allow me to voice some quick thoughts...

At the recent MTV awards, the host for the evening, British comedian Russell Brand, made the statement to the entire United States of America on behalf of the world to vote for Obama... which garnered SOME ire... but I would like to explain his comment from a member of the planet who is NOT American...

Realistically, I have few problems with Mr. McCain... in fact, I might have to turn in my "Lefty-Moonbat" card for saying I saw him as not a bad candidate... and although he DOES seem to be a bit of the "more of the same" type of guy, there DID/DOES seem to be a chance of a wee cleaning up under his presidential hand should he be elected. I was certainly heartened when he seemed to be interested in environmental concerns... and didn't mock or deny global warming.

...then came Sarah Palin.

Now, before I'm re-branded as a misogynist again... I have to set myself up for a complete beat-down from my supposed allies(?) on the left... I do believe, in my heart and soul, that former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher was the right women at the right time to lead that nation... and admire her for having to make some tough decisions. (The left can now take me to task over that statement... but please note, I also feel that Pierre Trudeau was absolutely necessary for Canada... so there...)

That said, it's not Mrs. Palin's religious views that frighten me, but much of her track record is really untenable... (see the link on her name above...) Her most recent outrage for me personally is this... Yup, her signature on the document forcing rape victims to have to pay for evidence collecting of the crime committed against them... perhaps I'm off base, but isn't one of the main tenants of good conservative values being tough on crime? Why penalize the victims???

Now, hopefully the recent world financial upheavals will show you folks in the States how important your country is to the world in many, many ways... and honestly, though it doesn't often come through, most of us appreciate you... but after the debacles of the last presidency, when we see a woman like Mrs. Palin as the standby "Commander and Chief" to you guys, it frightens many of us... a lot...

We do have a stake in how things work out for you... and yeah, someone who does have a track record of abuse of power and seemingly little care for those less fortunate or in trouble is really awful to most of us out here on the globe...

I guess what I'm asking... begging... is consider your vote carefully. If you MUST vote for McCain, do ask questions... put people's feet to the fire... ensure that what seems to be a series of questionable actions of a mayor/governor will not take seed in the vice-presidential offices... for those who MUST be in lock-step with the processes can see the problems now, don't react to them by attacking the opposite number and not considering the issues... try to get the issues dealt with now.

I'm asking on behalf of many people on the planet... who do see ourselves as friends... and hope that things will get much better for you... and therefore, for us.

When I look at a leader... ANY leader... I want to see that they have the best interests (even if I may disagree with their stance,) of their nation at heart...

I honestly believe, and the evidence does seem to show that the only thing that interests Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin...

I cannot say the same about Barrack Obama, Joe Biden, or indeed, even John McCain... they DO strike me as being interested in things other than their own personal power base.

Allow me to completely ruin my standing with the (apparent) Left now...

I won't do the service of putting a link in, but this quote is from a well-known Canadian blog that leans heavily to the left... and of course(?) being a social progressive means (apparently) being a hard-line, combative turd of an Atheist...

...posted on a Sunday...

That one's for all of my smart, witty, educated readers out there. The rest of you can go to church.

Well, I don't go to regular church services... and I'm not a religious man... so I suppose I shouldn't be outraged as, indeed, I did not go to a church on the Sunday this was posted... but I can still tell when I'm dealing with someone who's own vistas end pretty much at the tip of their nose.

To insinuate that people who ARE spiritual or go to church are all encompassingly all stupid is beyond friggin' dumb. History AND SCIENCE is repleat with good thinking people that *gasp* had a standing faith and *double-gasp* went to a church.

Also, this blogger (rightfully) makes fun of extremist right-wing bloggers that scream out shrilly against Muslims... and yet, apparently mocking religions him(them)selves (there's more than one blogger on this site that I'm talking about,) is okay as long as THEY do it.

One of the BEST and BRIGHTEST living astrophysicists in Canada is a Catholic. One of the steadfast and stable "sceptics" (read: Non-believer wrapping themselves up in the term "sceptic" when presenting things in public) who decries my own work quite often is Jewish.

...I could go on.

Intelligence is not interlocked with a LACK of faith.

Intelligence is interlocked in asking questions... and finding answers.

Faith and seeking answers to universal riddles are usually not mutually exclusive... I'd point out to this bonehead that Occam (of Occam's Razor fame,) was a monk... how about Gregor Mendel? Newton? Even the recent attempts of the "humanists" (atheists) to try and prove that Einstein was one of their number was proven false...

The only time (in my eyes) that religious beliefs MUST be questioned is if they are HARMING other people OR FORCING a global sense of behaviour on others outside societal norms... and even then, although history is (sadly) filled with religious violence and intolerance, this person is so dewy-eyed in their faith-of-non-faith and hero worship for the high priests of their non-faith that they cannot extricate themselves to notice that MOST religions around right now are not destructive at all.

Like the general population, you can't say All Religions are Bad because of a handful of rotten apples. In my eyes, it's like saying, Ted Bundy was a horrible killer... and he was male... Ergo: All males are bad.

Granted, allow me to sum up a little...

If this person feels that all people that practice a faith are idiots, then I assume he has no friends or (liked) family members that do so... in which case, I feel very sorry for him... because (as stated,) if they were around, he wouldn't want to hear what Mendel or Newton had to share.

(Get ready, spiritual folks... time for you to hate me a little now...)

I am a believer in the joke/saying that a Man without religion lacks an invisible means of support.

That said, if something gives someone strength and is NOT hurting me or forcing a change of lifestyle on me, who am I to deny that strength to those who find it helpful, useful, or genuinely calming?

If I challenge something their philosophy or indeed, faith offers... it behoves me to offer evidence to show my reasons... not simply crap on them because I don't like them...

...and to be honest, I cannot prove that there is no such thing as any higher power... so how can I, or anyone say without question it's an absolute impossibility?

Oh, and DON'T give me that nonsense about not being able to prove a negative because YES YOU CAN... read a science book!

Anyway, I don't find 99% of the people I know who do practise a faith at all problematic... They do not make me feel odd or awful for not subscribing to their faith...

Conversely, I do find about 75% of the humanists/atheists I have had to deal with far more insulting, biting, and genuinely ignorant than the rest of society in that they misuse the term science to define a "faith" (science is not a faith, it's a method... and science allows for hypothesis, testing, and observation... not question to conclusion without stops...) and ensure, like the example above, that they call anyone who DOES believe in a faith and idiot or the like.

As an agnostic, I have to say something... Those atheists (humanists) like the fellow above don't make me want to listen to their "rational offence" to religions... far from it... they come off more like antagonistic preachers, screeching from their pulpits about how we're all going to... um... well, how we're all not worthy because THEY are right and the rest of the world is incurably stupid.

Y'know, like I said, I ain't a church-going fella... and yet, I feel incredibly insulted... What does that say about their "message"?

Sicko Blogging... (Taking a week off...) Parte The Laste

THE FOLLOWING POST IS A TIME-STAMPED, PRE-WRITTEN THANG...
Live blogging... and a fairly good imitation of intelligence and creativity returns TOMORROW...

Sorry folks, this is not a "meme" or my usual lively post... I'm under the weather and basically pounding out a generic (sort-of) message to fill the airspace while I recouperate... if you're interested in What's Wrong With Me (and don't feel you've answered that question by yourself already, just keep reading this whole post... I explain all...

To those that DO know what's wrong, allow me to share a different "Busly Photo" each day that I'm away... from my friend at Ian's Bus Stop... which is a fabulous reserve of busly images and information!

Oh, and if you're new to the site and want to know WHAT the buses are all about, I entreat, beg, and plead with you to read this post (click here). Thanks!

Anyway... For details on WHY things aren't "live" this week, see below...

Thanks to everyone who's e-mailed and commented on the posts so far... for those NOT in the know...

I'M TAKING SOME TIME OFF BLOGGING...
(Back on Tuesday, September 23rd...)

Basically, I was (and am) pretty ill... with a virulent flu AND a brutal kidney stone... causing my body to need liquid... but not be able to retain it! Wheee~!

Did most of you reading this NEED to know this?

Anyway, the stone DID pass (THANK GOD! To be honest, I've had 'em before... and I'll have 'em again... thanks to a pair of defective kidneys... but let's hope that timing is better on the next one!) and the flu is going away SLOWLY (double-thank God) but I am going to concentrate on getting better... so I'm still takin' some time to relax and listen to the ol' iPod... or, iFraud/fauxPod which is what I have... and concentrate on getting back to fighting shape...

SO NO "WORDLESS WEDNESDAY", "THURSDAY THIRTEEN", "BLOG YOUR BLESSING", or "DOCTOR WHO MONDAY" for this week into next... but again, I'll be back on Tuesday, September 23rd...

Thanks again for your patience...

Still sickly... so taking some time off from blogging...

Folks, I'm battling a veritable Vesuvius of a flu combined with another kidney stone... meaning my body is screaming for extra liquids which I can't keep in! Either way, it's making coming up with cohesive thoughts rather tricky at best... and to be honest, I'm in some physical discomfort and generally unable to string a decent though together.

On that happy note, allow me to mention that INDEED, I'm not dying... and yes, I've been to the doctor and just have to ride all this out... but it may take some time...

Because of that, I'm doing the unthinkable and letting my blog lapse for a week... yup, from today until Tuesday, September 23rd, I'm gonna be away from the blog to concentrate on getting better.

(During October, I need all my faculties as a rule... don't rightly know why that is, but it tends to be busy for me...)

So, sorry about the abandonment... and again, I'm "okay" really... hey, if you're worried, watch Sue's blogs... if (Gosh forbid,) anything untowards DOES happen, it's a cinch that Sue will be all over it!

So, watch The Urban Zoo, The Paranormal Blog, Pastymes with Good Companye, and Nuttin' But Pimp if you are concerned about the radio silence here.

I honestly can't see this lasting for more than the week I'm taking... so I'll "E" you then.

Sorry again... and thanks to everyone who's already sent me "Get Well" wishes... I'm workin' on it!

When you're not well, DON'T listen to 640AM (former Mojo) Radio in Toronto on weekend afternoons...

Sorry Whovians... Doctor Who Mondays are cancelled AGAIN this week... due to a REAL nasty illness on my part... that, and I got nothing to report this week really... so please, allow me to vent my sickly spleen a little...

I had the station on for exactly SEVEN minutes... and if I may paraphrase...

Arlene Bynon: Hi and thanks for waiting for me to remove my lips from this picture of Sarah Palin which I cuddle up to at night... despite the inconvenient facts... Anyway, my dream girl brought up a good point... Don't you think big cities suck and small towns are way better? I mean, the stupid voters in Toronto only seem to care about what happens in Toronto and that sucks... small towns are much better and smarter! Sarah Palin says so, so it must be true! Let me take your calls on the matter... Is Toronto dumber than a bag of brass doorknobs?

Male Caller: Yeah, hi Arlene? Yeah... I'm from a small town and Toronto does suck. They're dumb and they have all these seats in Parliament that they, simply by being the largest population centre, get to decide on! ...and they keep voting Liberal which is stupid and dumb and the small town people think they're idiots!

Arlene Bynon: Oh, sorry about that... I was gazing into the photo of The Barracuda's Troopergate/Bridge-to-Nowhere Money-Grabbing/Book-Banning eyes... you were saying that Toronto sucks?

Male Caller: Yeah! I mean, they ruined Canada... just because they have statistically more "people" and democracies are "popular votes" and it's home to more universities and colleges than anywhere else in Canada, they don't elect Conservatives! Stupid! They ruin all of Canada!

Arlene Bynon: Y'know, I should get glasses like those... and wear more lipsti... er, sorry, Toronto does suck, doesn't it?

Male Caller: Yeah! I mean, it's the minorities always voting the way the minority newspapers tell them and that's what Toronto is! Stupid minorities...

Arlene Bynon: I'm sorry caller, I was just reminded that this station BROADCASTS out of the City of Toronto... and makes a lot of money advertising to the people of Toronto which, oddly enough, aren't all of European stock! Gotta let you go! Say goodbye to my picture of Sarah Palin before I cut off the line!

Yup, made me a bit sicker, it did.

Now, you may THINK this is a joke... but the key points weren't.

Arlene "Palinite" Bynon who hosts a show on AM640 TORONTO radio... did use the AMERICAN Vice Presidential Candidate to open a discussion on how Toronto sucks because it rarely votes Tory... which you could tell she was lurvin'... right up until the caller DID blame this on Toronto's minorities... not a "veiled" accusation... not something one could SEE as blaming minorities, but was phrased differently... no, he came right out and said it was stupid Toronto minorities... at which point, yup, he got cut off.

Granted, without folks like Arleneonpalin Byndmetoherplease where would folks like those spoken about here or here have a voice?

Now, what did that remind me off... I remember another idiot getting a lot of kudos from mouth-breathing, unable to see the inconvenient facts, moronic nincompoops... and when he failed, he blamed minorities...

Oh yeah! That's right... except I'm pretty sure Jacques had been into the sauce that night... the episode which made my flu/kidney-stone stomach whelp happened at about 2:30pm on a Sunday. I suppose this moron and the Palinfandominian MIGHT have been drunk too... but it seems unlikely.

Like I said, I lasted seven minutes on this racist and bigoted idiocy played out on a radio station that, as stated, is out of a city it was slamming... and advertising to a city and a populous it allowed to be smeared by bigoted nitwits.

Won't make that mistake again.

If I wanted to listen to people slam Toronto and the people of this city, I'd move to certain parts Hamilton.* I expect better of a lame talk show on a TORONTO radio station.

* - C'mon now... SOME Hamiltonians really dislike the big city to the North-East... (scroll down to the note about the Hamilton billboard campaign...) we know... s'okay... honest!

Anyway, I feel a LITTLE better here... but gee whillickers 640AM... if you ARE Toronto's "talk radio station", how about getting hosts that don't feel the need to hate the city because it won't embrace a fave American political hoaxy-mom idol... er, "hockey" mom idol... and won't vote en masse in the host's preferred direction!

Addendum... indeed. I suppose rape victims SHOULD be forced to pay fees to get justice... isn't that the motto? Justice for those who can afford it? Thanks Sarah Palin!

Blog Your Blessing Sundays from the Infirmary... yeah, I'm still fluish.

UGH! I'm VERY not well right now... and needing a little rest and recovery from a BAD flu bug that has completely ruined my weekend thus far. Because of that, I present the FIRST "BYB" (Blog Your Blessing) post I wrote... EVAH... Yup, this is from WAY back in February of 2007...

Blog yer Blessings

Y'know, when I decided to go ahead and try to make the ol' dream come true, MANY people (even those close to me,) were not exactly supportive.

Oh, don't get me wrong, most people were... and my family was (which is what counts most,) but true to Canadian form, most of my friends and acquaintances basically laughed at me, mocked me, or basically told me how putting this whacky family dream out into the wonderful public world of the Interweb would yield zip other than heart-ache and embarrassment.

Rare were those friends who did not have a slightly downcast defeatist attitude, but one truly stood up and stood out.

I can't give his name, as he's asked for a bit of privacy because of various situations (which you will become somewhat aware of,) but he really supported and helped me out with getting our dream off the ground... his enthusiasm and hope really picked me up on more than a few occasions.

This fellow is also interested in some of the same areas that Sue and I share studies in... which is how we initially met. You wouldn't believe the time and energy he's put into that study and I know his efforts have and will contribute to a greater understanding for us all.

There's no other way for me to say this, so let me just say that this fellow is a very good man in all aspects from what we know. He's a devoted father and husband, a curious student of life and in that aspect, a good teacher. He's a hard working person with an amazing ethic toward his efforts... and the best part is he challenges us all with new thoughts, ideas, concepts, and general philosophies on things... and listens to people who question back...

Recently, he's been plagued with serious health issues, and hopefully, he will overcome them with his very substantial strength of character and his internal fortitude.

It is my prayer that he will overcome his health obstacles... and it's been and continues to be my blessing for Sue and I to know him and count him amongst our friends.

In essence, all friends are blessings... but this one fellow is foremost in our thoughts and prayers right now...

If he reads this and realises it's about him, get through this buddy! We're all pullin' for ya!

Spacer

From Sept. of 2008 now... My friend's troubles have passed with happy results... and it's a blessing to have him around and at full stength... so perhaps this isn't really as old a blessing as I proclaimed it was!

My Turn!

I'd like to thank the wonderful person at my work who decided to come in sick... who's dedication and work-ethic ensured that, although they were fighting a nasty flu bug, their work probably got done! Who's outstanding accomplishment of pushing through adversity ensured one thing...

I ended up, along with others at work, needing a sick day.

Oh yes, you selfish turd, you're "little bug" that was "nothing to worry about" spread about... and now, here it is... and I get to spend my weekend near a bathroom.

When I return to work, I'll have a special surprise for you...

...just as soon as I can find out where I can purchase a box full of angry scorpions.

Oh, forgive this post today... but yeah, I'm sick... and as you can tell, I'm REALLY happy about that.

Stolen from Warren Kinsella's Blog: Why We Fight...

This was too moving not to reproduce... Mr. Kinsella found it via a Canadian Press report...

It's a poem... written by Cpl. Andrew Grenon, a Canadian soldier in Afghanistan in 2006. Cpl. Grenon, along with Cpl. Mike Seggie and Private Chad Horn was killed while on patrol in the Zhari district, West of Kandahar city earlier this month...

Why We Fight

I've often asked myself why we are here. Why my government actually agreed to send troops to this God-forsaken place. There are no natural resources. No oil, gold, or silver. Just people.

People who have been at war for the last 40 plus years. People who want nothing more than their children to be safe. People who will do anything for money; even give their own life.

I look into the eyes of these people. I see hate, destruction and depression. I see love, warmth, kindness and appreciation.

Why do we fight? For in this country, there are monsters. Monsters we could easily fight on a different battlefield, at a different time. Monsters that could easily take the fight to us.

Surrounding these mud walls and huts is a country in turmoil. A country that is unable to rebuild itself. A country that cannot guarantee a bright future for its youth.

Why do we fight? Because, if we don't fight today, on THIS battlefield, then our children will be forced to face these monsters on our own battlefield.

I fight because I'm a soldier.

I fight because I'm ordered.

I fight, so my children won't have to.

Thank you, Mr. Kinsella for bringing this to everyone's attention who, like me, might have missed it.

Thursday Thirteen: Epicurian Elective

Y'know, on reading this offering after completion, this was not my best effort to date... and I really think I could have done better... oh well, I'll do better next time, promise! That said... here's my...

THURSDAY THIRTEEN!

I was having a VERY hard time this Thursday to come up with a "Thirteen"... but fell back on what any red-blooded Canadian boy (who's actually over forty and weighs in at over 280lbs) does... food.

Yup, I reached back and thought about some old faves... and some not-so-forgotten faves... and came up with a list of...

THIRTEEN PERSONAL MEMORIES OF EPICURIAN
DELIGHTS

#13: Best French Fries: No longer available, as far as I know, but they used to be served in a side-walk-up window at The Rockcliffe Hotel in Minden

VERY fond childhood memories of stopping for a quick-bite en route to our former family cottage... the place made them amazing, no doubt, than anything the cooks were doing... but who knows.

#12: Best Baked Good: Butter Tarts from a forgotten Cannington Ontario Bakery...

I doubt it's still there, but in the town of Cannington, there was a GREAT little bakery that did a fabulous Chelsea Bun and made fantastic breads... but the butter tarts rarely lasted the drive either home or to our old cottage.

#11: Best Steak: Barbarian's Restaurant in Toronto

I've only been once and was thoroughly impressed! Just a great steak, cooked perfectly and not over-seasoned...

Runner up... but it's a hit-and-miss proposition... The Keg Restaurants in Toronto.

#10: Best "Candy Bar": Fresh Goo-Goo Bars from a peanut plantation en route to Florida

For years we (as a family) piled into the car and drove from Toronto to Florida... along I-75... past ENDLESS billboards for "Ruby Falls" and "Crystal Caves"... there was one "plantation" that also advertised heavily on the route that we'd stop in at... and made Goo Goo Clusters with slated peanuts. I remember how unappetizing it sounded... until I tried one. Heaven!

#9: Runner Up to the Above: Fresh Pecan Bars from the same place

Same place... and peacan bars. So sweet, I believe my mother refered to them as "instant diabetes"... but they were WELL worth the insulin injections!

#8: Best Fudge EVAH!!1!: Maple Leaf Maple-Walnut Fudge from Niagara-on-the-Lake

We've tried others... especially friends that strong-arm us towards fudge-samplings in Niagara Falls and London, Ontario... but always and forever, we've never been dissapointed with Maple Leaf Fudge!

#7: Best Ice Cream: Kawartha Dairies' Chocolate Ice Cream from either Minden, Uxbridge, Bobcaygeon, or Lindsay Ontario

Cheap and AMAZING... what you pay for a half-litre of Häagen-Dazs will buy you two litres of a superior ice cream. It's worth a trip!

#6: Best "Greasy Spoon": Johnny's Hamburgers in Toronto

Probably the most famous diner in Toronto... and with excellent reason! It's EVERYTHING you want in a small fast-food diner in a big city... and then some. I am NOT a fan of hot dogs as a rule, but there's something about Johnny's that makes them spectacular! Oh, and their hamburgers, steak on a bun, and a cornocopia of other greasy, artery-hardening goodies!

Of course, this is written without a trip to our dear friend at The Hot Dog Truck... I will need to sample his wares and my change my tune about hot dogs.

#5: Best Roti: Bacchus Roti in Toronto

There's no point in even TRYING to compare... it's the best roti ever. Period. Sue refres to it as "The Roti of the Gods". She could very well be right.

#4: Best "Chicken Burger" (sandwhich... whatever...): Mary Brown's Chicken

They make EXCELLENT everything... but their chicken sandwhich is unbelievably good. (Notice, if you go to their site, it's the big picture on their main page... says sumthin'!)

#3: Best Curry: Sue's curry... yes, MY Sue... at my home.

Sorry, it's by invite only, but Sue's culinary trapsing into Indian cuisine is outstanding! Add a good chunk of paratha and it's truly a goodly meal the whole family gobbles with gusto!

#2: Best Desert Pop (or "Soda" for our American readers...): Stewart's Orange and Cream

SWEET!!! (...and yes, I mean tasting...) but the perfect drink if you can hack it on a hot day. The combination of "cream" with "orange" gives you a good ol' fashioned creamsicle as a tastey drink. Not for those who like things not-so-sweet though!

#1: Best Sausages: "Smokies" from the old Stouffville Market

Another childhood memory which is probably long gone. In the main building, there was a "stand" that served grilled sausages... "smokies"... similar to a debreceni but smaller and (believe it or not,) a touch milder. These were terrific lunchtime meals loaded high with saurkraut, mustard, onions, and who knows what else. Truly, a lunch-treat of kings!

Again, apologies to The Hot Dog Truck... I may change this at a later date after a proper sampling!

You do of course realise that should we ever get our bus... or any bus... our first "long road trip" will HAVE to be to visit The Hot Dog Truck... especially after today's list and mentioning him twice.

For those that must, you may now hate me...

First of all, allow me to express regret at not having a "Doctor Who Monday" for today... quite frankly, there's really no news to report this week that I found...

That said, here is what people can get grumpy for...

Yup, that's right... I not only DID a post to say I won't be doing a post... but I did a GRAPHIC to show it too! EVIL! EVIL! EVIL!

Anyway, I have to catch up on some work and (combined with) the lack of Doctor Who news, I'm taking a couple of days off from blogging... I will return on Wednesday with a "Wordless" offering.

Thanks for stopping by... and "E" you on Wednesday!

Shortest Blog Your Blessing From Me EVER!

When one hears that they wish to keep the "home fires burning", it means to wait for someone to come back to that home where, indeed, the fire is burning... That said, when one is experiencing a tonne of work or other issues, they say that they are putting out a few fires.

Well, everyone here is home... save us missing the University-bound middle stepling... but there's a TONNE of "homework" to do... (Lot's of repairs, re-wiring, setting-up, patching, etc.) so I have to spend my day putting out fires while stoking them as well... and it's for all the right reasons... which lead me to a simple blessing...

My blessing today is to have a home and a family where it's a pleasure to help putting out some fires, and keep others burning.

Basically, I'm lovin' getting to play the part of the "proper dad" today.

Like I said, short and sweet today!

Wow... it's odd... sad... and... odd.

Despite all the things I have to keep me going, believe it or not, sometimes I get bored. I know, you're shocked...

That said, one of those times, long ago, I was looking for information on an actor... someone who I'd seen many times as a kid and I also knew he had a music career to boot.

I went online, desperately trying to remember this fellows name... and ended up on a site through my searches... The Dead People Server.

Now, this was a few years back... before the IMDB had really hit a stride... so finding this page with my search parameters came as a shock... after all, I didn't think this fellow was no longer with us... and if he was, it would be like losing a tiny bit more of my youth with memories of his movies still fairly fresh in my noggin.

Indeed, at the time, he wasn't deceased... he was quite alive! This is because the "DPS" catalogues pretty much everyone of note... and lets you know if they are with us or have joined the choir invisible... and as stated, my chap indeed was with us back then.

Well, imagine my surprise when this week, I flipped on to the DPS main page and sadly, there he was...

Jerry Reed, he of country music fame and Burt Reynolds' movies, passed away on August 31st...

I know what you're thinking...

Aren't you an old "gothy" kinda guy? What gives with country music and Burt movies?

Well, I admit... and please, don't hate me... I'm not a country music fan... that said, however, I am an old Burt Reynolds movie fan... and have very fond memories of watching the flicks on TV with my dad many moons ago.

...and as a guitarist, I never held a "preference" for styles when it comes to talent... and Jerry Reed was a very talented guitarist.

Ergo: Yes, I can hold a small if imperfect candle towards the memory of Jerry Reed... who's life lead me to a website that, rather disturbingly, lead me to find out about his recent departure.

It's been an odd sorta week.

Apparently, I'm a misogynist.

On Tuesday, I did a "half-butt" post about the current Vice Presidential candidate for the American Republican Party, Sarah Palin.

I pointed out what I thought was a bit of a failing in the fact that she preaches abstinence for "sex education" and tells her constituents that this is the best plan... and then had to announce that her seventeen year-old daughter was pregnant out of wedlock... and we must assume this was an "unplanned" pregnancy.

My feelings on this were that we teach our kiddollo not to play with matches... but still teach her the importance of what to do if she is burned, why we keep the battery in the smoke alarm in her bedroom and the one in our hallway fresh, and how and what to do if she needs to escape our home.

We also do believe that she should look both ways before crossing a street, but teach her to only walk at intersections and cross-walks.

Effectively, it would be great if all the kids in the world did what we want them to... but it's not reality... and we need to protect them and ensure that they are "good" no matter what the situation.

Apparently, teaching "abstinence only" was not effective for her daughter... and yeah, when someone preaches to others how to behave, and neglects to tend to their own back yard, I see a failing.

That said, I pointed out that "Troopergate" was worse... the story is that she fired a public safety commissioner in her home state of Alaska when he would not not fire her (in the process of becoming her "ex",) brother-in-law. Basically, she says it was over performance issues... but there is an investigation ongoing... and it doesn't look good. She has a lawyer helping with the case... he's on the government's payroll to do so.

I could now cite things like her also using the same "forcefulness" to try and dismiss a local librarian from the town where she was mayor. The reason? Apparently, the librarian did not give "full support to her mayor"... why? The mayor wanted to ban books that had "foul" language.

Then there is her minister at her church... who warned that critics of President Bush might be banished to Hell and that people who voted for John Kerry might not gain entry to Heaven... The same church where a guest speaker described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity. When compared to the howling about Obama Barrack's former pastor, one has to scratch their head a touch.

Of course, there's the "Bridge to Nowhere" issue... where Governor Palin axed what looked like a bad bit of business where a congressional initiative ponied up $233 million of the taxpayers money... yes, Palin was instrumental in killing this project, but did not return the taxpayers' money. In fact, while mayor she hired a Washington lobbying firm to secure almost $27 million in federal earmarks, which was about $1,000 per resident. This is exactly what McCain has fought against for years. It didn't stop when she took over the governor's desk. In February, she sent Republican Senator Ted Stevens a 700-page memo outlining nearly $200 million in new funding requests for her state. The money? Well, it's "eventually" going to go toward Alaskan roads... which is worthy, but didn't save the taxpayers a red cent.

Then, to return to the top of this, she slashed the funding of Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent... which included Passage House which is a place to help teenage mothers become self-sustaining parents.

Now, with all this in mind, I had to do a "big no-no" in the blogsphere... and delete a comment.

Why?

Well, on my post on Tuesday, I was accused of being a misogynist.

Now, that alone would NOT have made me censor something... although as a son, brother, step-father, and husband, I had to laugh a little... and it's the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I've been accused of this.

No, I deleted the comment because the poster needed a thesaurus rather badly... basically, the diatribe was laced with invectives, foul language, and was generally pointless other than to tell me how evil and awful a person I am for picking on this woman and her daughter... as well as more than a couple of lines tossed in about what kind of parent I am for being so mean to women.

I find it funny that bloggers who go out of their way to post Barrack Obama's middle name (Hussein) in "All Caps"... who proudly placed images of him dressed as a terrorist on their blogs... who went after Hillary Clinton "tooth and nail"... have suddenly become the moral compass we all desperately need to listen to.

I am and have not mocked Bristol Palin for her situation... far from it, I have nothing but genuine concern and feeling for someone in her position... doubly-so for the fact that her's is so in the public... and, at this rate, might be blamed for turning a page in history.

That said, if a man was as "guilty" of the things her mother is, I would be just as appalled and horrified that they had managed to get as close to what is arguably the highest position of power on the planet.

Sorry to say, genitalia has little to do with what I see as a concern... character has everything to do with it.

If you need to CONTINUE to label me, so be it... but it won't change the facts... and it won't change how I feel...

Realistically, telling me about the "banning of books" would have been enough on it's own... but add the rest...!

I still wonder why the McCain folks thought this rolling train wreck of a politician would be a good choice for Veep? I can't imagine it was for her speech making abilities alone... or was it?

Addendum: (From 07:07 EST)...

Indeed.

Hat Tip to The Raw Story...

Thursday Thirteen: Not Doin' The Dinner Thang!

THURSDAY THIRTEEN!

Ah, I run back to the original "Book of Lists" for an idea... which I've done a similar list like the one I'm doing now before... but this time, IN REVERSE!

Yup, I've told you who I'd LOVE to do dinner with, now let me tell you who I would say We'd love to, but sorry... we're sorting our sock drawer that day!

I'm going to skip over obvious ones like Hitler, Stalin, Bernardo, Olson, and all my ex-girlfriends together... and go with a list that may contain some name you may not be familiar with... but you soon will be!

So, without further adieu, here's...

THIRTEEN PEOPLE I DO NOT WANT TO
HAVE DINNER WITH

#13: Michel Lotito

...only for fear of losing my silverware, table, pets... anything that isn't nailed down... and even then.

#12: Mr. Patrick Edwards

In my opinion, the world doesn't need any Routemaster haters!

#11: Rev. Fred Phelps

I have a DISTINCT impression that his and his followers version of "hate" is not really based anywhere other than in lawsuits, I'd fear that I'd lose it and end up in court for "stifling his legal right" to be a complete cretin.

#10: Bill O'Reilly

Because I am a historian... amongst other reasons.

#9: Ingrid Newkirk

PETAs founder and I do not share a lot of common philosophies... like I don't believe in harming animals and she... well...

#8: (The Late) Ed and (The Not-Late) Lorraine Warren

I hate picking on folks who aren't around anymore... but these two "demonologists" set a money-grabbing and "stretching-the-truth" tone that has set back my study centuries in many of the educated public's eyes. Click here to see what I mean.

#7: Richard Bruce "Dick" Cheney

Now, I know... I'm picking on a certain type of people again... and I do apologise... but something in my guts tells me that when all the smoke clears (and it could be a LONG while,) we will really get a clear indication of certain things relating to choices in the Bush administration and the company he "didn't have anything to do with anymore" Haliburton... and it really, Really, REALLY won't be good... and America and the world will not be amused at all.

#6: Ann Coulter

Where do I start here? Well, the easiest is to note that as a proud Canadian, I really, Really, REALLY dislike her... unless she finally 'fesses up to being a socialist plant to discredit the Right with her stupidity.

The dinner disinvite goes double if she's bringing a date.

#5: Kellie Pickler

Sorry, if you don't know why, allow me to remind you...

#4: Nannie "The Giggling Granny" Doss

We all have "grannies" that cook for us... most are good... and then, there's this one. I know she SHOULD qualify in my "Ain't Doin' Serial Killers" bit, but there's something really eerie about a killer named "The Giggling Granny".

#3: Mary "Typhoid Mary" Mallon

Y'know, I'd be more forgiving of good ol' Typhoid Mary... if she hadn't made the same (and caught doing it) mistake MORE THAN ONCE.

#2: Pretty much everyone on this list...

Aside from being politically opposite, these folks have done much that is truly SCREAMworthy...

#1: Sawney Bean

...if you don't know who this fellow was, click here... and if you do time-travel and meet him, I suggest NOT doing a potluck... especially unarmed.

Wordless Wednesday: Back to basics this week...

Been a while since I visited Ian's Bus Stop... and scavenged some goodly Wordless material! (These ones from his photos from Worcester Park Running Day)

For the learned, yes, this is a "dream photo" for me with TWO RLH buses... and a lovely RT too. RLH 61 and RLH 23 together...

...had to do ONE green one for ya! (RT 3148 to be precise!)

Thanks, as always, to Ian's Bus Stop for the photos!

Some old news, but... um... no.

If you gotta make a stand... make sure it's not on a pile of steaming dung...

From the Ceeb...

Train wreck politics...

Um...

Um...

Um...

Um...

Um...

...let alone... which is even worse than the above... which made the news yesterday too...

...either way...

Um... no.

I'm not a fan, I admit... but still, allow me to ask... John McCain, what were you thinking!?!

(...and please, don't say that this had anything to do with it.)

Gotta comment on three "Entertainment" stories from the Beeb last week too...

Michael Jackson sings Robbie Burns

...and millions upon millions of fans of the Scots Bard weep. Apparently, the Gloved One has set some of Robbie Burn's poems to "modern music" in a recording session. Billy Jean, that's my bonnie lassy!

Um... no.

Aaron Sorkin is making "Facebook: The Movie"

...because only the creator of things like "The West Wing", "A Few Good Men", and "Sports Night" can do justice to the story of Harvard geeks making good. On the face of it, it sounds to me like being as riveting as watching paint dry... with less action.

Um... no.

Mulder enters rehab because he likes sex

Dear Tea Leoni... you shoulda taken up my offer of marriage a few years back. Too late now, I'm with Sue. That said, I have a difficult time with the concept of "Sex Addiction"... seems to me all of us in some ways HAVE this problem to a degree... after all, as a species, we're really built to procreate... only there seems to be only a select few of us can afford to act on it consistently enough to make it worthy of a visit to rehab. Sorry, Mr. Duchovny...

Um... no.

Labour Day Doctor Who Monday: Oodly enough, I have some news!

First up, I ain't gonna lie here... this was written before Labour Day and "Time Stamped" for a couple of good reasons...

Firstly, I'm a computer tech by trade, so working on computers, even a personal project like this one, still feels like work... and therefore, being labour day and all, I'm taking a day away from the screen except to check in now and again.

Secondly, it's the last day of The Canadian International Air Show... and Sue and I being aviation enthusiasts on top of everything else will be heading out to watch the show with the kiddollo... There's two aircraft in particular (the Talon and the Spitfire) I'm going to be excited and happy to watch put through their paces... and of course, I still get excited to see The Snowbirds... (GET THESE GUYS SOME NEW PLANES ALREADY!!!)

...where was I? Oh yes, I was digressing...

That said, there is SOME news in the Good Doctor front... and although it may SEEM like spoilers, I'd take it with a LARGE grain of salt considering the source...

Britain's The News of the World did an article (hat tip to Blogtor Who for posting it) that says a few things... all of which, through my studying and reading, have some levels of "truthiness" to them.

- Two of the four 2009 specials will be filmed in the United States.

Probably... and NotW cites the American Sci-Fi channel being the reason for this, what with the fan base of the show in North America growing like a bad weed.

This is LIKELY true... but I can't see the second major sponsor of the current show (The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) being too cool with this... and it could be the standard British non-understanding that America and Canada are actually two different and sovereign nations. I do see the shows being filmed in North America, sure, but my money's on Vancouver, British Colombia, being the likely place for the effort.

- There will be an American "companion" for the doctor... a "big name" star at that.

Very likely. Again, Vancouver would lend itself to this as many American shows film there and it's not a long trek between LA and Vancouver... and a familiar American starlet would add a touch of clout to the growing North American audience.

We can all start to speculate now as to who this companion might be!

- Show creator/producer/writer Russel T. Davies has said they are spending WAY more than usual on these four specials than a standard program.

This one's probably very accurate. First of all, it's Mr. Davies' last shows before handing the reigns to Stephen Moffat... and it's well known he wants to go out with a BIG bang, so to speak... but it also provides some evidence to my thoughts of Canada, not America, being the location of the shows... CBC would be more willing to pump money into things being filmed in Canada than in Los Angeles.

- Speaking of Stephen Moffat, according to the article, a "film" version of Doctor Who (in some form) is in the works.

I'd give this about a 45% chance... it's now known that Moffat, who worked with Stephen Spielberg on the new Tintin movie script has talked about it, and there was a BIG rumour that Spielberg wanted to discuss a "Who" movie with him... capped off with his statement that he made that "the world would be a poorer place without Doctor Who" (source)... but I ask those who are fans... How would you do a 90 minute Doctor Who movie for those who may be completely unfamiliar with the characters and concepts? You'd need 90 minutes just to bring folks up to speed! It would be a VERY tricky thing...

Although, there is This as well... (Look who's #1!) so there is a chance of fiscal success for such a product.

Granted, Moffat and the departing Davies both have said that a film is "okay" as long as it doesn't impede the television offerings.

- Here's the one that might send a collective shiver through everyone... The specials will be David Tennant's last appearances and he'll "regenerate" into a new leading man during them.

Here's where I waffle... but I wonder if it's out of fandom.

I am a big "mark" for David Tennant's Doctor... as is the whole family... and NotW "predicted" Tennant was going to leave the role twice in the past already... so I don't know...

Not to mention, Tennant's growing popularity with fans is a given... and if you're trying to woo North Americans, probably not a great idea to deep-six one of the more charismatic "Doctors" to come along in a while.

I know that if this WAS an American production, he would simply be offered an obscene salary to stick about... enough to make things pretty much a given... and reports DID say that The Beeb was ponying up a goodly sum... not a "Friends" version of a salary, but a decent amount of coin.

My instincts tell me expect our illustrious "Tenth Doctor" to be around until 2011... after that, I would expect a regeneration. This would be the fiscal and fan-base "wise" thing to do... and allow North Americans to "catch up" with a proven Doctor.

If anyone cares, my top five fave Doctors are still...

#1: David Tennant
#2: Tom Baker
#3: Jon Pertwee
#4: Christopher Eccleston
#5: Sylvester McCoy

...and I do hold a VERY warm spot in my heart for Peter Davison of course, but I have to "stay true" to my Doctors!

Why bring this up...

Because, despite the facts, the rumour MIGHT be true... but I'm clouded as I am a fan.

Hey, I try to be neutral... but cut me some slack.

Of course, I do have my idea of who SHOULD be the Eleventh Doctor... but I'll keep that under my hat for now.

NOT from the News of the World article... and often discussed on the Doctor Who Forum is a rumour that even "I" have some possible scoop on...

Better than average chance (really, almost a given,) through some little birds of my own and somewhat confirmed through the above mentioned forum... expect the fellow below to make an appearance...

...and this guy too...

...during the four specials.

...oh, and don't forget... Catherine Tate said she WOULD be interested in "The Return of Donna"... (it's also been demi-confirmed that she's spoken to Stephen Moffat about this,) which I'd like... and with that, perhaps more Wilf???

NOTHING CONFIRMED, but it's all from goodly sources.

Quick hat-tip to "Jess" from Planet Gallifrey who has returned after a five week hiatus... I don't know "Jess" personally, but I do thank her for a great source for news and Who-Shtuff!
