Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Nothin' like a little home nursin'...

I want you all to think about this... I'm about to do a SERIOUS blessing that involves "flu symptoms"... diarrhea to be exact... and I'm deadly serious...

Last night I was... to be honest, I am still a little ill. Not exactly the way to start off a blessing... and not all that horrendously ill either... but I would qualify my ailment as "mild flu-like symptoms" possibly caused by eating something a little... um... not-so-good.

Well, it's not being sick, that's for sure!

...but it revolves around it in a way.

When you're in a partnership with someone you love, be that a significant other or a spouse, you need to keep in mind that "your" time is more often "their" time as well... Ergo: It's Sue's weekend as much as mine.

Top that off with Mother's Day... but I'm leaving that bit up to steplings... with a tiny bit from me too...

...but this is about last night... and yeah, sadly, today...

We were at a dinner at my favourite pub... when it "hit"... my stomach said, Git Yer Butt Home!

Now, because this sort of thing has happened to everyone, (sitting about and all of a sudden, you know you need to be home shortly!!!) it's not an unusual thing to cope with... nor was it such an emergency at dinner that I knew I need to run home ASAP, but I also knew that it would be best if we made for home as soon as we could. (Read: I knew I was going to be ill within "X" amount of time... but not at that second...)

We did get home... and all was okay... but it was by the skin of my teeth.

This hit me as a blessing because of another "ghost" that haunts me...

For a long while in my early-to-mid-to-late twenties, before my intolerances (allergies) to certain foods was diagnosed, this scenario happened often to me on "evenings' out" with a particular old girlfriend of mine... it was embarrassing and dreadful... How do you say to someone, Lovely evening, thanks for having me! Sadly, I must depart as I don't wish to monopolise your bathroom...

You don't... you hopefully tell the person you're with, with a little understanding, they help you make excuses and get you home.

Sadly, at that time, the girl I was with was not terribly understanding... at all... in fact, to my horror, I found out just before we split that she had complained about my illnesses on a public internet forum to her friends... basically comparing me to a "comic book" character who always had similar stomach issues in "his" story lines. This wasn't the only reason for my split from this person, but it sure made it easier to mosey along once the bomb had dropped.

...but thankfully, that is ancient history now... and the reasons for my tummy-troubles were figured out and are now avoided... so this weekend's "outing" was a rotten surprise... that almost interrupted Sue's an my weekend...

Why almost?

I was able to "maintain" through dinner and even a brief stroll home... but then, I was dusted...

Why is this a blessing?

Two things... after the story I've related, Sue did not gripe about a "wasted evening" or worse... she actually helped me... she made sure I was comfy, got me the ol' Pepto Bismo... picked a couple of videos to watch... and we settled in.

No fuss, no hassle, and as the "sicky", I was allowed a little freedom to get better... and offered medicine and whatnot to facilitate the goal of regained health.

Appropriately today, Sue was a bit of "Nurse Mom" to me last night... and I am very thankful...

When one defines what a "good mother" is, isn't being a bit of a nurse very high on that list?

When one defines what makes a "good wife", sadly and a little "neanderthalically", is also up in the top ten for most men I know...

...and there was Sue last night... easing my pain... making me "better".

My Blessing Today is Being Cared For When You're Ill...

...especially by someone you love... who loves you right back.

I am wondering, however, if I am harbouring a wee flu-bug... which would suck, because then my "Nurse Sue" really should keep a safe distance!

I do believe "The Flu" would NOT be an appropriate gift to give on Mother's Day!

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
