Sending out an S,O.S... well, actually a H.U.M.A.D.P.F.T.A.T....

HUMADPFTAT... sounds like something He Who Cannot Be Named scraped from under his finger nails... Still, it's an accurate "acronym"... it stands for...

Help Us Make A Decent Proposal For The Ad Thing.

Here's the skinny...

If you're not familiar with it, the one idea I honestly believe has the "best shot" of working on helping us raise the $20k it will take to make the dream come true is our "Ad Idea"...

Effectively, the bus isn't running... so to get it from "Point A" to "Point B" would require is to travel on the back of a flat bed truck or on a train from California in the You-Ess of Ay! to Ontari-ari-ario Canada... and one HAS to assume that the sight of an old British bus on the back of these vehicles would draw a LOT of attention as it went by...

...kinda like a moving billboard going literally across the states and into Canada... right through the Golden Horseshoe... That's a lot of people who would be gawking... and it could be at SOMEONE'S ADVERTISING!

Top that off with this blog being fairly well known... and IF we succeeded in making the family dream come true, it would get mentioned a LOT in various locations...

Blogger's Family Sees Busly Dream Come True!

...and lots of pics and verbiage... on blogs and elsewhere...

Is that worth $20k to a company out there???

I think it might be...

I'm HOPING it might be.

Now, we've been pestering people online to "spread the word"... but it's a HARD word to spread... I mean, how do you get this out there and to whom???

Well, I've tried sending out e-mail and even snail-mail to ad companies and marketing agencies (no responses)... I've implored students of marketing to perhaps lend a hand and see if they could help (no one bit)... About the only thing I haven't done is danced through the downtown Toronto core wearing a sandwich board singing, Help Us Make Our Dream Come True to the tune of "Happy Days are Here Again"...

...I may not be above doing that if necessary...

Anyway, I am tossing this out to the following...

1: Students in Marketing, Advertising, or Public Relations...

2: Professionals in the above field who think our dream is just kooky enough to warrant a little bit of your time...

3: People who work with or for a company that might see value in the ad idea...

If you can help... even if it's suggestions about proposals... or maybe a good contact... please send me an e-mail... matthew(at)psican(dot)org is probably best right now (thanks to my "faultless" server company and their poor mail pointers,) and help us see our family dream come true...

Don't make me break out the sandwich board... my singing voice is atrocious.

I get spam requests to put ads on my blog every few weeks and ignore all of them. I did have one which actually read my blog and responded to an entry in it. Then sent an email asking about running an ad post. I've never done that before but did that one time. Worked out ok. I got samples of the product, which just came in the mail yesterday. That was the long story. For the short story try contacting Deana at Youcast. Send me a note and I will get the email out of my inbox. She might come up with something for your bus. Would like to see you get it up here after having a blog named for it and everything. :)

I can't imagine that there isn't someone that wouldn't want the advertising. Let me spend my weekend in nature thinking on it, and see what I can come up with for you.

Have you thought about using Pay Per Post to attract attention for your project? You can do it pretty inexpensively; I don't think you'll get a bigger bang for your buck. All sorts of companies do PPP spots; someone else using it, or looking at using it, could jump on this. Stumbling a bit today; I stopped by to give you a big THUMBS UP. Cheers!

This blog is called One Old Green Bus. Yup, the bus is green. What colour is the bus?

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

Allow me to start with we do not own nor are we selling a bus. Just had to get that out...

This blog was started in April of 2006... during a very bad time for me and my family when money was very tight and life was very hard.

We maintained by fantasizing... talking about what we would do when times were better... and as Sue and myself are Anglophiles, England factored greatly into our "plans".

During these bad times, while looking at news items and whatnot as London was removing their venerable old Routemasters, I came across one photo of an old green bus... and somehow, my whole family adopted it. It became very much "our bus". (Details about "our bus" are available by clicking here.)

Like most of you, I'd heard about the fellow who'd made a million dollars selling tiny ads online... and the fellow who did trades and turned a paper clip into a house... so I thought, since we couldn't make our bus actually into "our bus" (well beyond our means,) I'd try and appeal... to make the focused item of our hopes into a tangible thing in our lives...

More specifically, in a burst of adult/juvenile optimism, I had hoped to show the youngest member of the family, who at the time was still very young and impressionable, that dreams really could become reality if you hope and, more importantly, try.

Well, I'm pretty sure you figured it out... we failed... and the youngest has reached an age where she is more cynical than much else about the world which isn't a dreadful thing... but there's a "good news" portion to this... money is better, life has improved, and some people really liked my rambling here... so, I decided to keep things going... Yes, I will "give up" on asking for help on a bus... and have to give up on even trying to get the bus and be far more realistic... but I don't mind (I actually enjoy,) venting, trying my hand at humour, and generally keeping on online presence outside my usual things.

Thanks to those who were/are "Busly Dream" enthusiasts... I suppose that our buses now will be single-deck with the letters "TTC" emblazoned on them... but this blog will live!
