You may remember me posting a while back that I'd picked up a cheap portable MP4 video and music player for my commute to and fro work... Well, it was good while it lasted, after a few tumbles, the video component works... but eats the battery at an alarming rate... so I've switched back to music.
...and I forgot how wonderful the trip becomes when it has a soundtrack.
It's interesting... and I find myself selecting music to be "time released" (barring delays) for the trip...
Dance music from the door to the subway to get me moving. "Techno" during the subway ride to coordinate with the lights and human traffic of the ride. Old school "goth" (Siouxsie and whatnot) for the bus ride... and finally classical during my walk into the office... then, something "energetic" for the walk from the front door to my office inside to give me a wee bit of "pep" to start the day.
On the way home, classical to the bus to sooth my nerves, classic rock on the bus to make me feel like I'm finally "away from work", lounge and jazz on the subway to relax and get my "intellect" going, and a classic Sinatra tune from subway to the front door just for fun.
I find an odd sense of "accomplishment" when I've got the mix "just right"... and love continuously tweaking my playlist and adding new music and shuffling old tunes away.
I plug in... and I'm not simply "commuting" to and from work... I'm at a nightclub dancing... I'm at a concert... I'm conducting a symphony... I'm within myself, lost in music... free of the world around me as much as I can be as I let the notes and sounds carry me.
I am of an age where I do remember transistor radios... then walkmans... now iPods and other MP3 players... and the whole idea of setting one's day and life to music is still so appealing.
My blessing this week is portable music...
All my life, there's been something around playing a tune, picking me up, seeing the world and nature set to a beat... and although I do enjoy the sounds of silence... or the sounds of true nature... I can't imagine life without music with me at all times.
My world has a soundtrack... and in my own headphones, I get to call that tune.

See the "latest post" on the left here... I've decided to concentrate on other work so this blog is kinda done for me... THANKS kindly to my friends and regular readers... and as you'll note, I am still loitering in the blogsphere... and I'm still online... and I honestly haven't given up hope that we will get our dream bus one day! (We've just gotten REALLY quiet about it...)
