Servers fell down and went boom...

Sorry about the lack of post today folks... Woke up this morning and NO SERVER!!! Yup, the SQL server that powers our blogs went "Snap!" sometime in the wee hours...

Well, obviously it's fixed now... but no time to do a post... so I'll make up for it tomorrow and once again do away with my own meme of "Post Nothing Tuesdays". (In other words, I'll do a nice thoughtful post for tomorrow... probably on me having my Wiki entry TOSSED AWAY! - I'm shattered about that.)

Sorry again...

Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Expanding one's thoughts...

As word of warning, I've decided to talk about Doctor Who one last "intentional" time here... only as it pertains to my blessing... which will make sense, promise!

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Ian Chesterton: Let me get this straight. A thing that looks like a police box, standing in a junkyard, it can move anywhere in time and space?

Susan Foreman: Yes.

The Doctor: Quite so.

Ian Chesterton: But that's ridiculous! Time doesn't go round and round in circles. You can't get on or off whenever you like in the past or the future.

The Doctor: Really? Where does time go then?

Ian Chesterton: It doesn't go anywhere. It just happens and then its finished.

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

Allow me to share a memory with you again... this one a happier one.

Back in 1976, I was a strapping nine-year old boy... and we were on our first family vacation that wasn't cottage-country related. We didn't go to Disneyworld... or to New York... or even Quebec... nope, we went en masse to London England...

We stayed for a little over a week in town... in a lovely flat at the Grosvenor House... and while there, my father introduced me to something that had a profound affect on my life... a television program... a silly sci-fi broadcast feature a rather old-fashioned yet dapper man fighting pretty silly looking rubber monsters. It was Jon Pertwee in the odd clothes and the show was Doctor Who... it was love at first viewing... and that first show is a memory included my late father, my whole family really... London, and having fun in general.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've spilled enough pixels on the show of late with Sue and I plunging rather fiercely back into the "Whoniverse" over the last couple of weeks catching up on the new series (which we are REALLY enjoying,) with the shows since 2005 until present... and I suppose I could go into the show being a blessing for entertaining us so much now and entertaining me so much as a kid... but there's more to it than that...
The real blessing is that it expanded my thoughts a lot...
Science fiction does that... but things like Star Trek, especially the original series of Trek, was pretty two-dimensional... the morals and lessons were good and usually pertinent to everyday life now... and the action was "in your face"... and yeah, I am a PROUD Trekky...
Doctor Who went further... because unlike the world of rockets and phasers the viewer is faced with time and dimensional concepts.
"The Doctor" (the titular character) is an alien... but he not only looks and acts human, he has human quirks... and LOVES humanity because he sees us as the ultimate survivors and explorers as we're unwilling to remain stagnant in our knowledge.
Now, as a nine-year old raised on "The Trek", the concept of a benevolent alien was nothing new... but I did like the way he genuinely seemed to care about the Earth and humanity.
Next is his "ship"... the TARDIS... (an acronym for Time and Relative Dimension(s) in Space,) which appears significantly smaller on the outside than the inside... effectively, from the outside, it's a 1950's London Police Box... a phone box used for police emergencies... it's this "design" for camouflage... the TARDIS is SUPPOSED to camouflage itself in all environs... but got stuck in 1950's London Police Box mode and was just never repaired... Anyway, it's about the size of four "normal" phone booths on the outside... inside, it's a large room capable of holding about a dozen or more people... with "off rooms" that range from similar size to literally cathedrals...
It's a dimensional thing... small on the outside, huge on the in.
Yup, as a nine-year old, I ended up getting a very basic concept of dimensional concepts and the altering thereof... effectively, the basis of quantum physics 101. Just because WE assume something is what it looks like, we may be incorrect about it's true dimensions. We must expand the ideas we have about limitations in dimension because those laws may not be played out everywhere in the universe.
It's this kind of questioning that led me to fight with my grade seven science teacher... he stated with certainty about "Absolute Zero"... which he said was −270 on the Celsius scale. Yup, NOTHING could get colder than that, he said...
I said, Why not?
He said, with absolute assuredness, that we KNEW that ALL atomic functions cease at that temperature.
I asked how we knew about ...every atom and particle, considering we're stuck here on one planet? How can we have a clue that something is absolutely "universal" in nature?
I was quite roughly told that "It Was!" and silenced. Never argue with a teacher that's right!
I have to admit, even years later, in 1994, 2000, and then 2003 when "Absolute Zero" moved... I cheered... because, yup, they discovered that certain particles and atoms DID continue to move at -270 degrees centigrade.
Meanwhile, back at the show... the TARDIS and The Doctor travel through time and space... yup... time AND space...
Again, as a nine-year old, I was confronted with another bit of simple quantum physics...
How do you measure distance? Do you measure it in space or time?
For example, if I have to go from point "A" to point "B", I will either say "That will be a distance of 'X' miles." or "It will take me 'X' amount of time to do that."
Now, the faster we move, the "shorter" the distance in that aspect, correct?
Well, what if I travelled so fast, I arrived at virtually the same time I left?
...what if I moved faster than that? Would I arrive before I left?
While examining that, one realises we are all time travellers... going at a rate of one second per second... but Doctor Who made me ask, what if we altered that?
Doctor Who also posed some rather heavy moral questions on my young mind... in one episode I watched back in Toronto, The Doctor is about to kill his mortal enemies, The Daleks, before they get started... in essence, he had travelled to their nursery... and was confronted with the task of having to kill these shapeless monsters before they would inhabit a robotic body that would allow them to effectively wreak havoc on the galaxy....
...well, he hesitated... he was in the nursery... he knew they would BECOME evil... but at the time, they were "babies".
So, as a kid... here was a "hero" wrestling with a conscious decision... over what SEEMED like monsters by their appearance... but to him, as an alien himself, they were "new life"... and hesitating to kill them because they had not yet become what he knew they would be.
The question posed to me at the age of ten or eleven was effectively, if you found Hitler's pregnant mother, could you kill her or somehow destroy her unborn child?
By the time I was twelve, thanks to my fandom, I was familiar with the early variations of string theory, the "time-space-mesh", dimensional physics, and ethical and moral concepts including genocide.
Sure, it was "sci-fi"... it was trashy, campy rubber and tinfoil monsters... but it led to a very young man to become thirsty... VERY thirsty for scientific concepts and ideas... many well beyond the average university student (unless they were in theoretical physics.)
My Blessing is Expanding Knowledge through Entertainment...
One thing funny about this... when a recent revelation went through a part of our study about the concepts of the "bubbleverse", many people went Wow! What a striking new and exciting idea! Of course, to many Doctor Who fans, it was not exactly a new concept... but hey, everyone is not a Doctor Who fan!
Now, I want to point out... the "original" Doctor Who's were very campy at times... and the new shows have a MUCH higher budget and are a LOT more exciting and action-packed... and although I have nothing but respect and reverence for Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, (these three are "my" doctors... I watched them first... and re-started for a brief time with Sylvester McCoy...) we really enjoyed Christopher Eccleston...
...and David Tennant is now THE Doctor. He's done the role proud... and I'm glad he's Sue's and Schnookie's Doctor... and mine too.
I'm equally glad that Doctor Who's writers and producers CONTINUE to introduce us to expanded thoughts on time, the universe... and everything.
I wish everyone would examine the universe around them as thoroughly as the average Doctor Who fan...
Do atheists burn churches on Christmas day?
UPDATE: 9:11 EDST - YAY to MY PART OF TOWN!!!! (Scroll down for the full update...
Happy Earth Hour (coming soon to Toronto)!
My friends in the blogsphere have taught me much today... apparently, if you don't believe in something, you should automatically do the exact opposite of whatever it is in protest... even if there's good behind it.
So, if you are an atheist who believes that religion is bad or corrupt, considering the message of Christmas is "Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men." and we give gifts to celebrate the birth of Christ, it would behove you to kick the living keck out of a pregnant woman, steal something, then burn down the churches for good measure.
You see, do the opposite!
Now, some of you might say, But even if I was an atheist, what's the harm in being nice to people or giving a gift? but thanks to my friends in the blogsphere, I know you'd be WRONG!
You see, if you're fiscally conservative, as a rule, you try to save money, right?
...and most people understand that regardless of your feelings on global warming and climate change, pollution is bad and not something to strive to make more of...
...but tonight, during "Earth Hour", when many people on the planet are planning to turn off their lights and unnecessary appliances for one lousy hour, certain people in the blogsphere, wishing to PROVE beyond a measure of a doubt that they are just way smarter than the rest of us folks because of their political leaning, are saying they plan on wasting as much electricity and burning as much oil as humanly possible during this hour.
Smart, eh?
Wonder what they'd do if their opposite number had "Life Day" celebrating the individual's right to life... would they commit mass suicide to prove their testicular fortitude? (If so, when can we get anyone like Dr. David Suzuki to arrange a "Life Day"???)
So, basically, despite the concept of conserving and reducing being a fiscally conservative sound agenda and despite realising exhaust from say... oh, I don't know... a poorly tuned motorcycle being revved too high to "make a point"... being clearly unhealthy from a legitimate pollution point of view (let alone possible environmental issues,) these "smarter folks" are going to do it to show "us".
Ain't they intelligent?
I must say it again, can we have that "Life Day" soon please??? We really need to thin this herd... consider it God's way of weeding out the friggin' moronic.
Folks, EVEN IF you don't buy into climate change... turning off unnecessary lights and appliances even for ONE HOUR tonight is actually a sound FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE move with no ramifications. I promise doing it will not make you suddenly love Al Gore... it won't make you vote NDP or Green party if you weren't going to anyway... and it won't hurt a bit.
On the other hands, turning on "every" light in your home, barbecuing for no legit reason, firing up appliances just 'cuz, and revving your car (or motorcycle) engine will raise your electric bill, cost you in gas and oil, add to legitimate pollution, make you look like a nit, and will accomplish nothing of any value... In fact, the LIBERAL waste of energy AND MONEY is pretty much anti-fiscal conservation.
So, to those that feel they MUST do the opposite tonight of what's planned... can I send some of those atheists I mentioned at the beginning of this post over to your place on December 25th?
...and HONEST, Al Gore and David Suzuki have declared March 30th "Personal Life Day". I believe you can get a good strong rat poison for yourself at your local hardware store.
One wonders if it would have KILLED these morons to simply say, Well, this isn't for me so I'm not participating! instead of the stupid Ah'm a goin' to pulloots sum morez! insanity.
Oh, and before the nits come out to comment (like my buddy Barney,) I am that WEIRD and ODD thing you folks don't get known as a moderate.
I know that in your world, there is no middle ground, only angry, seething, irrational extremes mixed with hatred and bile... but in my bubble, I can see both sides of the street...
I believe that pollution is bad.
I don't believe that next year (or five years from now,) Manhattan will be under water.
I believe that pollution has taken a toll on our environment.
I don't believe in banning all cars.
I believe that there is enough evidence to take doing something about global warming seriously.
I don't believe the world is coming to an end over it.
I believe in trying to make things better for nature and my kids.
I don't believe that we should take a major hit to our lifestyles to do it.
...and finally, turning off lights and unnecessary appliances for ONE HOUR does not a political stripe make. It is, effectively, a celebration of conservation... "CONSERVATIon"... you might recognise the first and main part of that word... wonder what happened to some people that they keep missing it?
I seem to remember MOST of us in my part of the world revelling in our ability to maintain normalcy during the big blackout of August of 2003... Apparently, the aplomb that made some people so proud during that CANNOT WITHSTAND one hour just for the heck of it.
Wouldn't want to be a lefty-pinko-hippy-moonbat now, would we? Best to show our stupidity and ignorance and make sure we WASTE more to make a dumbassed point.
UPDATE: 9:11 EDST - YAY to MY PART OF TOWN!!!! Sue and I took our puppas and the kidollo out for a stroll between 7:45pm and 8:30pm just to watch the skyline... we probably passed about three or four hundred houses in our trek...
About ONE in TEN had SOME lights on and the rest had their lights out and many had visible candles flickering... not bad...
So that's NINE in TEN that participated in our neighbourhood!
...and only ONE BLITHERING MORON had gone out of their way to turn on EVERY light in "protest" of low electrical bills... and because they want more pollution in their air.
YAY TORONTO WEST END!!!
...and to the one moron, grow up... I don't begrudge the one in ten that simply went "meh" and didn't participate... but you really, Really, REALLY showed you're a complete idiot going out of your way to turn on EVERY LIGHT... ya twit.
Welcome to HALF-BUTT SATURDAY!!!
Creatively bankrupt as I am today... after a long week at work and many odd situations to handle, I have decided that today, I'm going to WASTE TIME!!! After all, in some ways, isn't that what the series of tubes that make up the interweb are all about... so, allow me to share with you, thanks to Wiki, ten amazing things that happened in history on THIS DATE! (March 29th)...
#10 On this day, in 1867, Queen Victoria gave Royal Assent to the British North America Act which established the Dominion of Canada on July 1st of that year! (Consider this the "act" that produced the birth of my nation... man, that sounds icky...)
#9 Speaking of births, Cy Young (a famed American baseball player) was born on the exact same day... (same year too!) I think it's safe to assume that Queen Victoria did not have anything to do with that.
#8 However, some years later on this day in 1871, she did open The Royal Albert Hall.
#7 On this date, in 1461, in England again, we had the Battle of Towton where Edward of York defeated Queen Margaret to become King. Apparently, it's good to be the king.
#6 Today's the day, way back in 1886 that Dr John Pemberton brewed the first batch of Coca-Cola in a backyard. Caffeine for everyone!
#5 Happy Birthday to Lucy Lawless who's ONE YEAR YOUNGER than Sue and myself... but we won't hold it against her... much.
#4 Today is also "Día del joven combatiente"... a remembrance day celebrated with civil disorder in Chile by leftists and anarchists. Sounds like fun.
#3 On this day in 1882, The Knights of Columbus were established... marking the first time someone said, No, we are NOT the Shriners!
#2 In 1058, Pope Stephen IX passed away. I heard they didn't even televise the funeral!
#1 Way back in 1632 on this very day, the Treaty of Saint-Germain was signed, returning Quebec to French control after the English had seized it in 1629... Many in Canada would like to return certain Quebec citizens to France now... if we can get another treaty going...
BONUS ...and it's Earth Day... and yup, we ARE doing the "Lights Out" routine at 8pm. Sue did a post on it.
#10 - High-Five Fridays
My Tenth High-Five Friday...
I'm calling a one-week moratorium on High-Five next week... so this will be it almost mid-April! Please bear with me!
#5: Rick Mercer
Canadian Political Commentary (sorry friends from outside the Great White North,) with a sincere comedic and cynical edge! Rick Mercer is easily one of the most humorous political commentators in this country... oh, and he does skewer ALL sides of the political spectrum... but of course, when he makes fun of "X" or "Y", the zealots of "X" or "Y" seem to think he's aimed at them... which honestly isn't true... but what the heck, it's politics, right?
#4: FarShores
Another fantastic collection of news and articles on all types of paranormal news and articles. An excellent site for news and general things most consider odd and weird! Big High-Five for Farshores!
#3: Life at Stars Rest
This is a blog I literally "stumbled" across... and I love... I have a sincere soft-spot for dogs and horses... and the photos are amazing! It's a great blog to visit!
#2: DUAL WINNER!!! Dackel Princess and RennyBA's Terella
Next time you see a news item that says that the internet is bad or wrong... read this post and this post and you'll see that the internet really, Really, REALLY can bring people together! This is TOTALLY wonderful!!! BIG BIG BIG HIGH FIVE~!!!
#1: Real Talk!
The blog of my big sister! (Don't you notice the family resemblance?) Gotta give my bigus sissus props today for some much needed help she gave me recently. I'ze gots me a great big sis... and she deserves a BIG high-five!
Find out how to give your High-Five Fridays here!
The purpose of this meme is to give high-fives to 5 people, posts, blogs and/or websites you've admired during the week. I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 5 high-fives on Friday. Trackbacks, pings, linky widgets, comment links accepted!
Visiting fellow High-Fivers is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your High-Fives in others comments (please note if NSFW - Not Safe for Work).
Hey High-Fivers... I pride myself on commenting back to anyone who comments on this here blog... but I've made a wee decision based on laziness and time... and that is, if you're going to post up in the comments two (or more) URLs for HFF sites, I will read them all (honest!) but probably comment on only one.
Just FYI...
Thursday Thirteen - 8 "Wants" and 7 "Not Wants!"
THURSDAY THIRTEEN!
Fans of I Can Has Cheezburger know of the "Want" and "Not Want" kinda things... and who am I not to capitalize on this a little by making my Thursday Thirteen this week resemble the "Want" and "Not Want" ideals... so I'm going to do EIGHT things I personally "Want" (guess what number one is???) and SEVEN things I "Don't Want"... so a total of...
THIRTEEN THINGS I WANT OR DON'T WANT
#13: Want: Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards People, Cure All Known Diseases, Eliminate Intolerance, My Girls to Grow and Be Happy... Wait a second, I do WANT all those things, but this is my PERSONAL list... so allow me to get more... um... oh what the hell, let me call like it is... let me get more shallow...
#13: Want: An Eee PC 8G (701)
Okay, I know... it's a toy... and it's not a mature product... and the pathetic 8 gig solid-state drive will be obsolete by the time I open the box... but I just really, Really, REALLY want one! Under two pounds in weight, seven inch screen, it's wee and perfect for my needs! I think it would rock during my commute to and fro work! Best part is, they're cheap (under five-hundred bones)... and I probably will have one soon as I can actually somewhat justify this as a work thing being in IT and all... we'll see...
Linkage
#12: Don't Want: Rope Burn
Hands up! Who likes rope burn??? Hands??? Anyone??? Poor rope-burn, a terribly unloved ailment. Last time I had it was "up North" tethering a boat... and yeah, it sucked. I don't want rope burn, thanks. (A paper cut WAS going to be the #12 entry here... but rope-burn squeaked in by a hair.)
Linkage
#11: Want: A Radio Control K-9
Okay, so I KINDA lied yesterday because, yes, I have worked in a Doctor Who reference in today's post... but c'mon now... after seeing my Wordless Wednesday (scroll down the blog to yesterday's post... loads of pics and two videos), don't YOU want a K-9 of your very own??? This would bring me much joy... and as it's inexpensive, I bet one might come on my birthday! (May 31st if you were considering it!) ...and don't worry about doubling-up... I'd love more than one! :)
Linkage
#10: Don't Want: A Velvet Elvis
I know that some people (like He Who Cannot Be Named) think these are the highest form of art and a perfect decoration for all places in the home, but they're just not for me... I would, however, cave in if someone managed to give me one that I could hang conspicuously in some place like Buckingham Palace...
Linkage
#9: Want: A Regent Low Height Bus...
I bet you thought this would be number one... well, this die-cast toy is most certainly NOT my number one want... but it would be a great thing to have on my desk... that way, no matter WHAT fate holds in store for our dream, I can always say Well, I do own an Regent Low Height! even if it is only a couple of inches long. Besides, it can keep my radio controlled K-9 company!
Linkage
(Hint! Easy to find on eBay! May 31st is coming!)
#8: Don't Want: To Make Out With He Who Shan't Be Named
...and he KEEPS ASKING which is just awful. I mean, aside from the fact that I'm happily ensconced in a loving relationship with Sue, he drools too much... and his breath smells like mackerel and day-old Cheetos.
Linkage
#7: Want: A Baker Rifle
I know, I know... I'm all for gun control and not a "gun nut" by any stretch (despite being a qualified and award winning marksman,) but this is a flintlock... a "black powder" muzzle loading rifle... and was my main weapon when I was trying to start into re-enacting. Sadly, during the REALLY bad times, I had to sell mine... but now that things are looking better, I would dearly love to replace it... with another Baker... maybe even a touch better than my old one.
Linkage
#6: Don't Want: To Become The NEXT Mr. Anderson-Lee
Okay, what lasts longer... a Tootsie-Pop or one of Pamela's husbands? Besides, I'm happy with Sue... and Pammie scares me a lot... and I'm still ticked she renounced her Canadian citizenship... that's unforgivable.
Linkage
#5: Want: A Classic British Phone Booth
Oh yes... When you put together #3 and #1 below, OF COURSE this would also be on this list... and really, with a bullet... I'd leave it up to Sue to either strongly weather-proof the thing and leave it outdoors... or allow us to keep it inside somewhere... but dear goodness, it would be the ultimate knick knack for this here family.
Linkage
#4: Don't Want: First Knight Part II - Arthur's Revenge
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! NO! NO! NO! NO!
Speaking of which, a certain country airing a television drama about the life of Henry VIII has a citizens' group trying to stop them from giving "Anne" the axe... that's ANNE BOLEYN they're trying to save... Let's re-write history because I want a good love story! Um, folks... Anne's head went choppy-choppy... not much can be done about it.
Linkage
#3: Want: A (real) home of our own...
Not that there's lick one wrong with The West-End Palatial Didier/Darroch Compound... save it's not palatial... or a compound... it resembles more a larger than average walk-in closet. With three people, two dogs, and three cats, the purchase of a house is DEFINITELY our true main goal... the bus may be our dream, but real home ownership is our goal.
Linkage
#2: Don't Want: Microsoft Windows Vista SP1
Earth calling Microsoft... Earth calling Microsoft... You re-released MS BOB and Windows ME and people like it about as much. PLEASE RECALL AND CEASE THIS NONSENSE!
Linkage
#1: Want: Our One Old Green Bus
There's still hope... there's still a chance... and yeah, we all still want it... it is, indeed, still our dream...
Linkage
What? You figured something else would be here at #1???
Wordless Wednesday: Who and a WOOOOO~!
Okay, I know that my last posts have been kinda "Doctor Who" top heavy... but seeing the (albeit brief) return of K-9 brought me so much joy... so allow me to INUNDATE you with my favourite campy highly technologically advanced pooch a few times... Last "Doctor Who" post for a while, promise!
Now, PLEASE remember, non-Who fans, that this dog was "developed" for the show in 1977 and yes, is more than a little dated. That said, he only (so far) has appeared in ONE of the new shows briefly which are a LOT less "campy fun" and FAR more "action/adventure" oriented... but hey, I like "campy fun"... and the "nod" of having K-9 back on the show made me smile BROADLY!
Oh, by the way... the NEW Doctor Who series have a CANADIAN CONNECTION!!! They are JOINTLY produced by The BBC and The CBC!!! Finally, semi-Canadian programming that's worth celebrating... and my tax dollars going someplace I am VERY proud of! Woo-hoo CBC!
...and if you haven't caught this show yet, TRY TO! It's an amazing series and WELL, WELL, WELL worth your time... Honestly, I said to Sue (who agreed) that this show could NEVER be done in Hollywood... it's simply too good.
VIDEOS
K-9 of old...
A bit from K-9's return in the new series...
(...if you want to know what happens next, watch the show!)
...and in honour of the upcoming Wrestlemania festivities, allow me to show the GREATEST Pro Wrestler of ALL TIME...
*Sigh!* - Memories! (A Brief Doctor Update...)
GEEK WARNING!
Well, it's back to work this morning...
after the three day Easter weekend here in Toronto... and as you can tell by the image above, we are NOW almost 100% caught up on our Doctor Who episodes... and for Andy and those who are DYING to know, although Sue thinks there SHOULD be a female doctor soon and LOVED the idea of Joanna Lumley as our Time Lord...
Sue has a doctor now...
Sue's doctor is David Tennant... The Tenth Doctor...
I think him beating up on a Werewolf sealed the deal... or it was re-living a combination of Titanic, The Poseidon Adventure, and West World...
Call it a hunch, but I can see the poor kidollo getting "forced" into having the same doctor... and probably Torchwood to boot. Ten'll get you twenty trying to get the kidollo into this will be, as they say, Teh Epic Fail!
(Non-Doctor Who fans are now completely mystified...)
I would say Tennant is our "family" doctor... but my doctor was Jon Pertwee or the Third Doctor (as I date myself again...)
*Phew* Okay, I've geeked enough... and feel the resurgence of geek running through these veins of mine...
We want our own K-9... okay, we want the bus first... THEN we want a K-9!
Sue corrected me... she now wants a TARDIS... I should ask her, would she want the "traditional police box"... or some other form of wonderful camouflage.
First off, I want to wish everyone a "Happy Easter" and remind folks that, although I do understand the significance of the celebration, as an heathen admitted agnostic, I don't celebrate the same ways as many others might... but I do respect the season and still acknowledge it and it's importance... and wish you all the best of the day. The reason for this caveat is because, although I know I won't be alone in doing this, my blessing has really nothing to do with this most holy of days to the Christian readers of this blog... well, not really...
I was raised in a mildly agnostic household... I've explained this before, but my parents encouraged me to ask questions and learn about religion and spirituality even as a young child, but never truly forced any religion down my throat.
Because of this, Easter was really, and don't be too mad at me, a time of bunnies, coloured eggs, and chocolate... and not a whole lot else... for a fairly long time.
...but then I finally asked... what WAS Easter all about?
When I was told about the resurrection, I gotta be totally honest... I had my doubts... no, that's not quite it... I had complete and total doubt. I didn't "deny" the concept, but boy it was kinda hard to swallow.
Then, top this off with why this celebration had anything to do with rabbits, eggs, and baskets.... and I think you can imagine how I was more than a little confused as a kid.
That said, through my learnings, I did find out how important and significant the day was in the Christian calendar... and truly did respect the reverence my friends who were Christian had for the occasion... and yes, was happy to celebrate with them in the understanding of what and why there was a celebration.
To be honest, whether you believe in something or not, one hopes we all have the courtesy and manners to respect those who do have faith in things we may not... and perhaps, like me, if you do understand the reason for a belief, you can appreciate it moreso than simply going through the motions.
Respect + Education = Understanding
What got me into this today was thinking about how I enjoyed things more because of understanding them... like being in a non-religious family and learning about Easter... and then enjoying Easter traditions (especially Easter dinner!) with friends and family... it somehow made it more special to know what the importance of the day was beyond baskets and chocolate... even if I wouldn't qualify in most people's books as a good, church-going Christian.
My blessing is the understanding and respect of belief and faith... and how much more enlightened and happy we are when we do have these blessings.
I won't bother re-hashing why this day is so important in the Christian calendar (if you're not aware of it,) as I already know from my "surfing" that there are better resources in the holiday and it's festivities than I could ever be...
...but what I can tell you is that no matter what faith you are, what belief system you have in place, no matter where and who you are... for a lot of people in this world, there's a celebration going on today... and who doesn't like a celebration?
Long weekend... busy Saturday...
Oh, I promise to do a bang-up "blessing" tomorrow... but right now, other than chores and grocery shopping, I'm FINALLY catching someone (Sue) up...
Starting at the last Jon Pertwee, then to Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, (skipping Paul McGann... sorry...) Christopher Eccleston, and now working on David Tennant.
It's been a "marathon" of Who.
Although "My Doctor" will always be Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker... Sue's chosen Joanna Lumley.
She feels she be a bigger fan if Lumley had been given the office to be the doctor for a while as opposed to a special. I have to admit, I think Lumley would have made a TERRIFIC Doctor too (believe it or not!) as would Richard E. Grant from the special...
So, we continue our "Who" Fest today... this is what is taking me away from blogging today... but Time Lords MUST come first.
#9 - High-Five Fridays
My Ninth High-Five Friday...
#5: Sandy Carlson at Writing in Faith
Easily one of the most prolific "commenters" in the blogsphere... and a prolific blogger as well! Ms. Carlson has done some wonderful and thought provoking posts... and is a genuine light on these here series of tubes we know as the interwebs! Sandy Carlson deserves a high-five just for being Sandy Carlson! She's one of the best!
#4: Andy at The Spicy Cauldron for this post (click here) about something we can do to PERHAPS send a message...
Sorry, I won't be watching the Olympics this year which ad revenue people might notice if enough of us say something. As much as I know it hurts the athletes, I cannot and will not support this.
#3: "He Who Cannot Be Named" again!
Okay, for those not in the know, when I mention "He Who's Name is Anathema to Hits", my hits go down about ten percent from normal. I honestly don't know why... but okay...
Anyway, Mr. You Know Who has a podcast, and showing he had a pair of stones bigger than all outdoors, the nervy bugger invited a rather questionable right-wing ardent Christian on the show... who's only eighteen. Now, Mr. Can't Be Named Here is not known for being too "Godly"... in fact, spoofing Jesus in various ways is a thing for him... and his audience is not exactly the kind that would warm Pat Roberston's heart. Anyway, things got ugly... and Mr. Stones Kinda Shrunk tried to keep it happy (EPIC FAIL) but I have to "High Five" him anyway for at least having the gumption to give this girl an outlet...
#2: Kyra at The Kyra Sutra
In relationship to my #3 above, this is Kyra who "got into it" a little with the person on "He Who Cannot Be Named's" podcast... and read this post (click here) to find out why I have a TONNE of respect for this lady! Bigtime High Five!
#1: Christie St.Martin's New Blog in the LA Times!
How cool is this gig? Toronto-girl and admitted geek, Christie St.Martin's blog, "Exhusticated", was a favourite stop of mine... she mined articles and "the funny" and I often shared links with others... it was like having a cool filter through Fark and a bunch of forums! Now she's blogging for the LA Times! HIGH-FIVE for Christie!
Find out how to give your High-Five Fridays here!
The purpose of this meme is to give high-fives to 5 people, posts, blogs and/or websites you've admired during the week. I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 5 high-fives on Friday. Trackbacks, pings, linky widgets, comment links accepted!
Visiting fellow High-Fivers is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your High-Fives in others comments (please note if NSFW - Not Safe for Work).
Hey High-Fivers... I pride myself on commenting back to anyone who comments on this here blog... but I've made a wee decision based on laziness and time... and that is, if you're going to post up in the comments two (or more) URLs for HFF sites, I will read them all (honest!) but probably comment on only one.
Just FYI...
Funny movie for the world poker crown
Okay, this could be disturbing... or funny depending on your point of view...
The above video is from some folks doing poker tournaments ... which, indeed, require a good poker face... although hacking off one's finger should be cause for some facial contortions in my eyes.
The video is a promotion for the world poker crown being run via 888.com which culminates in a $3 million guaranteed poker tournament... While it's going to be a "mostly online" tourney (in which case, your poker face doesn't need to be all that great,) the final eight players online will "play off" at a casino in a televised event... which culminates in the "big prize" which anyone can take... The World Poker Crown Final Event being played at Perlada Castle in Barcelona, Spain... between May 6th to May 10th!
777.com is offering a chance to win a seat at the 888.com WPC competition worth well over $1,000.00... this includes two seats at the competition, two flights to Spain, a welcome party in a yacht in Peralada Harbour, three nights stay in the five star Peralada Hotel, and full hospitality at the organized events! All in all, it sounds like a heck of a time for you and a special friend!
...but is it worth losing a finger?
...maybe... :)
Check it out!
Thursday Thirteen (I lost count...) - Thirteen Facebook Facts about Moi!
THURSDAY THIRTEEN!
It did not come to pass. When I signed up for Facebook, everyone said, Oh well, there goes YOUR free time! (assuming I had any to begin with.) I think my favourite was Welcome to lost time. Population: You.
Well, no, it didn't take control... and I'm still a Bloggin' Fool! (WHEEEEE~!)
That said, I do like one feature in Facebook... and MySpace has it too, but it's not so easily accessed... and that is telling people your "disposition" at the present time. Basically, it prompts you with something like...
YOUR NAME...
...and you fill in the blank after that.
So, most people do things like John Doe is Happy! or John Doe is eating dinner!
Well, since my name isn't "John Doe" nor am I most people, like a few selected whackos, I like fuddling with this... and here are...
THIRTEEN THINGS I WROTE IN
FACEBOOK ABOUT MYSELF
#13: Matthew Didier... is watching everything with benign amusement.
#12: Matthew Didier... is not a gnome. He's far too tall, has never been to Argentina and has better taste in hats.
#11: Matthew Didier... doesn't like to shave his chest... but it's so kissably smooth afterwards!
#10: Matthew Didier... has disappointed Bongo.
#9: Matthew Didier... believes evil unicorns are waiting in the shadows... FOR HIM!
#8: Matthew Didier... is the shop steward for Illuminati Local 416.
#7:Matthew Didier... has the negatives.*
* - Anyone under the age of twenty-five probably doesn't know what a "negative" is... or why, sometimes, having the originals was important for some people... *Sigh*... dating myself, aren't I?
#6: Matthew Didier... knows if you've been sleeping. He knows if you're awake. Draw your curtains and call the police.
#5: Matthew Didier... is chatting with his dark passenger.*
* - If you've read the Dexter novels, this should be reasonably creepy to you.
#4: Matthew Didier... is intentionally delaying (He Who Cannot Be Named)'s pizza.
#3: Matthew Didier... knows what it's all about and we've been LIED to! The "Hokey Pokey" ain't got jack dung to do with it!
#2:Matthew Didier... knows the maximum airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.
#1:Matthew Didier... knows that Technoviking approves this entry!
BONUS: Reposted Blob Video! Just 'cuz!
Blobs rule.
BREAKING MY OWN MEME (with Uncle Karl)!!!!
This is SUPPOSED to be "Post Squat Tuesday", but as I leapt into the frey on another blog...
Here, please comment about what an awful a "moonbat" I am on the correct post about my views on things...
Hard lines on immigration.
The War in Iraq.
The whole "Global Warming" and "Climate Change" thingy...
Global warming/Climate change - and the deniers thereof...
How I've been treated because I'm a commie-moonbat who would like to do something about pollution...
Gun Control... (Read the comments too for fun!)
...and I agree with Sue... PLEASE READ the whole thing before commenting like a whackjob.
Ann Coulter.
Michael Moore.
...and my overall beliefs.
I will now retire with my glorious protalitarian comrades and bask in the glowing sun of our workers paradise!
LONG LIVE THE STRUGGLE!!!
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
Wretchedly tagged AGAIN!
Yeah, I know... I've used the above graphic... but I like it so NYEAH!
There I was, happily hopping through the blogsphere when out of nowhere, BAM! Tagged by Penelope Anne of The Café at the End of the Universe fame.
It's the "Crazy Eights" meme... a series of seven questions with eight answers each... the last one a "tag" for eight other marks bloggers to do the same task.
Awright then... although I'm honour bound to complete this meme... and this "Monday before Post Nothing Tuesdays" needs something in it... I'm about to start...
THAT SAID, however, I'm going to change a couple of the questions... especially the last part as I shall NOT tag anyone else. If you wish to be "tagged", consider it done... otherwise, enjoy the meme...
8 Things I'm Passionate About
1 - My family
2 - Trying my hardest to do the right things in life
3 - Helping where I can those who need help
4 - Exploring and learning/Continuing my education
5 - My country
6 - My heritage/My history
7 - Sharing smiles and laughter
8 - Nature and wildlife
8 Things I Want To Do Before I Die
1 - Rescue and fix-up a double-decker bus.
2 - Own my own home.
3 - See my girls grow up.
4 - Take Sue and the kidollo to England for at least fourteen days.
5 - "Take to the field" and start re-enacting again.
6 - Really work on some good efforts in my field of study.
7 - Learn to play either piano or guitar better.
8 - Lie under the shade of a tree beside a small, quiet river in the Summer time and just ponder life.
8 Things I Often Say
1 - "When the world is wrong and you are right, it's time to examine your stance on things."
2 - "Since when did being conservative mean THIS!?!"
3 - "The difference between 'bad' and 'not-so-bad' is often the difference between a little bit of poison and a lot of poison. It's all still poison."
4 - "I believe in ghostly experiences, not necessarily ghosts."
5 - "I'm a non-practising agnostic."
6 - "Beauty is finite. Stupid is forever."
7 - "Scepticism, by definition, means to doubt, not deny out of hand. Yet so many people that claim they don't believe in something then claim they are sceptical. Which are they? A non-believer or a sceptic?"
8 - "If aliens landed on the White House lawn, the average person would watch the events on the news, then watch their sitcoms or soaps, sleep, get up, and go to work the next day. It will be an important event, but the world will not grind to a halt because of it."
8 Books I've Recently Read/Currently Reading
1 - When We Were Young - Stuart MacClean
2 - Abnormal Psychology - Davison Neale
3 - Vampires, Burial, and Death in Folklore and Reality - Paul Barber
4 - Poltergeists and the Paranormal - Dr. Philip Stander and Dr. Paul Schmoling
5 - Castles and Ancient Monuments of England - Damien Noonan
6 - Apparitions - GNM Tyrell
7 - The Canterbury Tales - Geoffery Chaucer
8 - The Poltergeist Phenomenon - John and Anne Spencer
8 Songs I Could Listen To Over and Over
1 - Cruiser's Creek - The Fall
2 - London Calling - The Clash
3 - Come Fly With Me - Frank Sinatra
4 - Dark Streets of London - The Pogues
5 - Dear Prudence - Siouxsie and the Banshees
6 - Bare Necessities - Harry Connick Jr.
7 - Take Five - Dave Brubeck
8 - The Israelites - Desmond Decker and the Aces
8 Things That Attract Me To My Friends
1 - Intelligence
2 - Wit
3 - Good Conversationalists
4 - Full of Initiative (Do-ers, not arm-chair quarterbacks.)
5 - Sense of the absurd
6 - Ability to debate
7 - Loyalty
8 - Respect and Manners
8 More Random Things About Me
1 - I was in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets as a kid.
2 - I love boating... anything from canoes to ski-boats.
3 - I would rather watch a documentary than ANY sitcom, drama, or soap on TV.
4 - I love to walk through cemeteries. This has NOTHING to do with ghosts because, oddly enough, cemeteries really aren't all that haunted, but has everything to do with simply enjoying history, nature, and memorials. I find cemeteries beautiful places of art and tranquillity.
5 - I am not a big game console geek. Sue is a Nintendo FIEND... but me, I prefer to read or to surf for information online... Console video games, after the Atari 2600, just don't excite me.
6 - Chocolate is the blood... Chocolate is the life...
7 - For some weird reason, everyone assumes I'm a big drinker... and I'm not. I'm a teetotaler for the most part and it's VERY rare I have even a beer or glass of wine to drink.
8 - I do not believe that film-maker Michael Moore is a liar. I do not believe that he is evil. I believe that he is a propagandist, not a true documentarian, and often shows only one side of any argument while almost completely ignoring the other. One could say he "lies by omission", but what he's presented is not fraudulent material... and it bothers me greatly that certain people scream "LIAR!" because they don't seem to like the truth.
8 Reasons We Should Have Our Dream Come True of Getting The Bus
1 - Because our little one is STILL (just barely) young enough to see true magic in a dream coming true.
2 - The bus needs rescuing... and soon.
3 - It would bring joy not only to ourselves, but the thousands that are following this venture.
4 - It will also bring some joy to those "offline" who will see it rolling about the streets. (Who doesn't like watching a classic vehicle roll by?)
5 - What's better than knowing someone's dream has come true?
6 - It will keep the bus out of the hands of some nefarious rudos! Look below to see what I mean!
7 - Although the bus really couldn't be used for SOME of our work (a little difficult to be discreet in a bus!) it would make a great "portable lab" when we do go to places where discretion isn't an absolute necessity... like historic sites and whatnot.
8 - I often mention our little one... but there's two others... one eighteen, one twenty-one... and they too need a little lesson about dreams and this might provide it.
Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Portable Music
You may remember me posting a while back that I'd picked up a cheap portable MP4 video and music player for my commute to and fro work... Well, it was good while it lasted, after a few tumbles, the video component works... but eats the battery at an alarming rate... so I've switched back to music.
...and I forgot how wonderful the trip becomes when it has a soundtrack.
It's interesting... and I find myself selecting music to be "time released" (barring delays) for the trip...
Dance music from the door to the subway to get me moving. "Techno" during the subway ride to coordinate with the lights and human traffic of the ride. Old school "goth" (Siouxsie and whatnot) for the bus ride... and finally classical during my walk into the office... then, something "energetic" for the walk from the front door to my office inside to give me a wee bit of "pep" to start the day.
On the way home, classical to the bus to sooth my nerves, classic rock on the bus to make me feel like I'm finally "away from work", lounge and jazz on the subway to relax and get my "intellect" going, and a classic Sinatra tune from subway to the front door just for fun.
I find an odd sense of "accomplishment" when I've got the mix "just right"... and love continuously tweaking my playlist and adding new music and shuffling old tunes away.
I plug in... and I'm not simply "commuting" to and from work... I'm at a nightclub dancing... I'm at a concert... I'm conducting a symphony... I'm within myself, lost in music... free of the world around me as much as I can be as I let the notes and sounds carry me.
I am of an age where I do remember transistor radios... then walkmans... now iPods and other MP3 players... and the whole idea of setting one's day and life to music is still so appealing.
My blessing this week is portable music...
All my life, there's been something around playing a tune, picking me up, seeing the world and nature set to a beat... and although I do enjoy the sounds of silence... or the sounds of true nature... I can't imagine life without music with me at all times.
My world has a soundtrack... and in my own headphones, I get to call that tune.
A Lazy Kinda Saturday...
THIS JUST IN... okay, it's from yesterday, but... Yet another reason not to hate Matt Damon...
From Ananova...
...thus we wanted to give Matty-boy a souvenir of his trip to remember his time - and us, of course - by.
The prezzie we gave him was a London red bus key ring, and may we say that Mr D was mighty chuffed, and told Sky Showbiz: "Thank you so much, the sad thing is I will actually use this."
Not "sad", Matt. Cool. Very, very cool.
I concur... very, Very, VERY cool!
You know the bus on the chain HAS to be a Routemaster... although Ananova didn't supply a picture. (Hey Matt... that's a classic bus on that keychain!)
IF (and boy this is a big if... but considering about one-thousand, six-hundred of you readers stop by daily, it's not impossible...) Mr. Damon reads this post, I would be mighty happy if he could e-mail me a photo holding his fine new keychain! It'd make a nice addition to this site and blog, no doubt... so c'mon Matt.. whadya say? Got a second? Got a digital camera? Prove that what I said was true...
Double Decker Bus is the New Black!
I mean, c'mon... if Matt Damon's sporting one, it must be cool! After all, he's done TONNES of good for various charities, is a movie star without question, seems like a good dad and a genuinely decent guy, and I heard he's having relations with someone... I just wish I could remember who that was...
Perhaps it's the weather... it's been a kinda gloomy late Winter... perhaps it's the wetness of the Spring thaw that SEEMS to finally be taking place... perhaps it's the time-change to "Daylight Savings Time"... whatever it is, everyone seems a little drowsy and more than a little grumpy in some ways... I'd call it a not-terribly localized "general malaise".
...and I ain't immune to it.
On that note, I'm doing a short post today... so that I may wander out on a short sojourn with Sue to visit some favourite local locales and then, POWER NAP!
I always feel a sense of kinda letting you folks down when I do such a short post with little content... it's a weird guilt, but none-the-less, it's there... and I wonder how other bloggers deal with it?
I know I won't feel TOO guilty while I'm wandering the streets of Toronto with Sue... nor while I'm napping... but here I am, pounding out what I hope will be a few meaningful words for you to read...
Perhaps I should do some goodly quotes to give this some more meat...?
Nah, been there, done that... click here to see them...
How about a funny image... um...
I KNOW!
Mr. Fa... er... "He Who Cannot Be Mentioned" (reason: I mention this fellow's name and my hits go radically down... I don't know why exactly, but they do...) did a post about a tasty treat sent to him for his birthday by this guy he seems to have a... um... "strange" relationship with... Anyway, the gift is rated PC-17 but if you really, Really, REALLY want to see it, click here...
Anyway, that gift for Mr. Fabul... er, "He Who Cannot Be Named" made me remember this post I did a while back... and it's obvious that Mr. Fab... er, "He Who's Name is Forbidden to be Written on this Blog" needs some soup to wash down that sweet treat!
Mmmm... Goodly FABULOUS soup.
No?
How about a nice hot chocolate drink from Portugal?
Anyway, speaking of "The Man Who's Name Kills My Traffic", you'll notice that wee icon beneath my posts (Click "You Know How" - Save Babies) for the last few days... it'll be included on my posts until the 29th... please click on it and if possible, help The March of Dimes help kids.
#8: - High Five Fridays
My Eighth High-Five Friday...
#5: Slash/Dot
As a professional geek nerd poindexter computer technician, you'd think working with high tech all day would be enough... but NOOOOOOOO! I still gotta see what's happenin' in the land of geek... and news... and things geek and news related... and Slash/Dot's my crack for that.
#4: Dead People Server
Sure, I know last week I admitted to being an amateur thanatologist, but this link offer something that makes it unique... Have you ever watched an old movie and wondered if what's his name was still sharing oxygen with us? Well, The DPS will let you know!
#3: The Crime Library - Serial Killers
Feeding my inner Dexter? Perhaps... or at least amusing my own dark passenger... anyway, I have a fascination with criminally deviant behaviour that stems from simply being overly empathic and not personally understanding how someone can kill without remorse... Ergo: I study and read...
#2: eBay... but a certain search query always is first with me...
What? You thinkin' I'm obsessed??? WELL... Maybe...
#1: New Scientist
I know, I know... I've been told that this is a "left-wing, moonbat, dumbass site for fear mongers" by one of my pro-pollution pals (Barney!) but indeed, it's a mag for those in {{gulp!}} actual peer-reviewed science! ...and no, contrary to the Barnster's thoughts, they cover a wide variety of topics... so like dotting the slash as I do in #5 above, this is a news resource that keeps me in the know... even if they lie, Lie, LIE about things! (Which they don't... but why spoil some people's fun?)
Thursday Thirteen (#37) on the Thirteenth! - Thirteen Thoughts on Canada...
Of recent, nothing has made me more sad than the realisation, thanks to the blogsphere, that there is a horrible and awful undercurrent of intolerance and isolationism that is smouldering within the ranks of some of our society that is now bubbling to the surface in the guise of Just My Opinion or Exorcising My Right to Free Speech and the last domain of the desperate, It's Just a Joke.
Thankfully, I know that those bloggers who propagate this nonsense are in the minority... and have used recent world events to justify their own intolerance, racism, and even sexism. This is true across the spectrum, but in Canada, I always had higher hopes for our population... that we had somehow outgrown the need to differentiate on a negative basis and that by the nature of this country, we understood that a person is a person regardless of any cultural or philosophical situation.
I was wrong.
There are those who, in a desperate attempt to prove themselves akin to a political stripe that isn't even native to Canada, regularly exorcise their right to ignorance, intolerance, and injustice. They "preach" hate and they do so proudly with the usual "excuses" of why they are what they are... and the problem is there is a huge difference between an "excuse" and a "reason"... and reason doesn't seem to be a forte amongst this vocal minority.
I can only imagine that they heard the marvellous utterings of people like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Tucker Carlson and assumed these were "wise words"... or "funny and true"... not realising the hate that tends to accompany these people's utterances. Most of the actual "Right Wing" of America know that these people are cartoons who are bordering lampoons of conservatism... and many in the Right Wing of America are embarrassed by these pundits. Far from winning people to "their side", they polarized the populace and made debating colleagues into blood enemies.
None-the-less, to the intolerant and ignorant, they become demigods and their words are like warmed honey... and in Canada, some people ape the words back not realising that these "pundits" are more than a little ambiguous to these bloggers home and native land.
I have really never considered myself either "right" or "left" politically. I have stayed with what I thought was best for myself and those around me... in fact, many of my friends have labelled me "Conservative" because of some of my stances... and now, lately, apparently I'm a moonbat and a lefty... or at least, so I'm told... I find it odd that my "left-leaning" friends who feel I'm too right are still my friends... whereas some of this blogging "right" seem to wish to see me hung, drawn, and quartered.
Now, I promised to stay away from politics on this blog... and obviously, I'm breaching this promise... but I just wanted to list...
Thirteen Personal Views of Canada
#1: I keep being told how "things have changed" and "things are different"... but are they... or have people allowed events to manipulate them into believing things are worse here than they really are? This country was invaded in 1812 by the Americans... and yet, today and yesterday, they are our neighbours, partners, and friends... somehow, we managed to work together... are we so sure it's impossible now... or are we so lazy we're not willing to try... or so scared that we will forget our own heritage and origins, we must fight back against trying?
#2: We are not Americans... most of us revel in the distinction that we aren't only because we feel very much like a mouse trying to slumber next to an elephant. We aren't a melting pot, we're a proud mosaic. We aren't only about industry, exploitation, and capitalization although they do factor in with modern life, but we're also about natural resources and conservation as we are a country founded on the bounty that nature provided. We became a nation unto ourselves with very few bloody noses compared to most... but really, our nation was born through shrewd political moves and agreements. We were not built on the blood and fire of revolution. We are, as a people, aware of our colonial heritage and our native roots without the taint of needing to say one is "better" than the other... and at one point, revelled in our reputation as a moderate, gentle but firm, even-handed, polite society.
#3: I care as deeply for the people of The North West Territories as I do for the people in Toronto's beaches. When you consider the state of Texas fits nicely several-times over into my province alone and it is a longer trip to Victoria, British Colombia than it is to London, England for me... I'm happy that British Colombia is still my home... because it's Canada... and I'm proud of that.
#4: My Canada includes things like tolerance... tolerance between all races, religions, and philosophies... but no tolerance of those who preach hate OF ANY STRIPE. No petty jealousies mixed with ego-driven spirituality, and worst of all, no fear-based xenophobia. Most of us are pretty glad to be here... and the ones that aren't... well... they exist, but I refuse to believe they are even close to the majority... after all, hate and intolerance is taught, you're not born with it.
#5: I wish that every kid in Canada between the ages of thirteen and seventeen could experience a full-fledged canoe-driven camping trip... to paddle the lakes and rivers of the country... to experience nature as unspoiled as possible... to work hard at portaging and setting up a camp site in the rough... to swim in pristine waters from a rocky outcrop amongst the trees. Perhaps then they would understand that no matter what the pundits or media tells them, this is what their country is really all about. This is what life is... and it's not as dirty, smoggy, and isolated/insulated as one might believe. It's vast, beautiful, and awe inspiring. It's difficult to stand on the observation deck of the CN Tower in Toronto and feel impressed when you've negotiated a tricky river and paddled the length of a lake in Algonquin Park.
#6: Is there any feeling better than letting a slap-shot or hard wrist-shot go into a board with that satisfying "thud" in ice hockey? I know American kids feel the same about whacking a baseball out of the park and European kids feel the same about kicking a ball into the net of a goal... but to be gliding and flying on skates and give a cold puck a good smack... nothing beats that in my eyes. That's a quintessential Canadian experience... and it doesn't matter what God you worship, what country your grandparents came from... if you're Canadian, you understand this.
#7: The supposed "right-wing" pundits (I know, not all of them... just the most vocal idiots,) often make comments about immigrants and new comers... blaming them for the ills of this country... and they seem to forget that the vast majority of these new comers CHOSE Canada. They came here to be Canadian... and that USED to mean they could still claim their original heritage and even spirituality provided as they were tolerated, so would they tolerate the next person and we would share our world views and culture. I went to school with their kids... I played games, sports, and studied with them... I still work with them. My family traces back to Canada in the 1700's... and one side to New Amsterdam before that... and yet, I don't feel that my friends, schoolmates, and colleagues were or are any less or more "Canadian" than I was... after all, it may be a couple of hundred years before their parents and grand-parents came here, but my family also chose Canada. The only people that didn't were the first-nations or natives... and they don't want to leave. What does that tell you?
#8: I have to admit, it still astounds me that anyone for the reason of wishing to be seen as "politically" to one side would promote pollution that lives in Canada. It seems to me that they must have neglected some of the Canadian experience of being in Canada's natural areas... paddling it's rivers and lakes... walking through it's woods... spotting wildlife legitimately in the wild... this is Canada. Not some town or city... they were built on that natural scene... it is us at our heart and legitimately, regardless of where you hang your hat, it's our foundation... and shouldn't we strive to help preserve it at least in some way?
#9: Anyone who is Canadian may still thrill when the country of their ancestry does well in sports or on the world stage. I know I get a kick when England, Ireland, Scotland, France, or Holland do well... and considering part of my family is truly "original American settlers", I get a small glee when our neighbours to the South do something wonderful... but nothing, Nothing, NOTHING tops the feeling when I see the Snowbirds jets fly by... or see a picture of the Canadian monument at Vimy... or see a dress-uniform (scarlet) coated Mounty... or hear "O Canada" played at the Olympics or any sporting event... or simply see three stripes... red - white - red with a red maple leaf in the centre where I wasn't expecting to see it. I may say I'm of "English and French" origin... but my pride and my heart are Canadian. To my abilities to understand this, these feelings have nothing to do with my skin colour, spirituality, gender preference, or abilities of any sort... The only mitigating factor into this is that I am Canadian.
#10: I did a post series that won much acclaim and was very popular (and still is) on one dozen "hand picked" Canadian heroes. For the most part, the dozen I picked are virtually unknown in this country... and my suspicion is that if we, as a nation, held these people to the same candle as other nations held their heroes, you might see a big difference in the people of this land... but as long as we still have a small amount of voices fighting without the education of what they think Canada truly means and has meant, it will never come to pass. These people can't educate, they can only infuriate and use rage and anger to try and "win over" their cause... that has never worked in the past and will not work in the future... it simply keeps people ignorant and bitter and divides us as a nation and as a people.
#11: I think, despite being born and raised in Toronto (an urban environment) that I keep harking back to the history of this country and it's natural heritage is that "back in the day", you needed to rely on your neighbour for survival... hospitality wasn't a "formality" or "nicety", but a necessity... and if your neighbour didn't have the same background or the same philosophies as your own, you still had to work together to get through life. The concept of helping everyone regardless of their situation was considered something that "should be done"... somewhere, this has been lost to isolationists who literally do not see value in certain "types" of people... and begrudge any "helping hand" as "meddling from the nanny state"... and are rather open about their intolerance... and then they wonder why their neighbours don't like them very much.
#12: I do "the ghost thing". You can mock that if you want... or be interested... or be indifferent. It's what I do and I don't force it down anyone's throat. Reporting and collecting cases of reported "ghostly" sightings ends up with some serious questions about ethics... like "How long is too soon" to cover a person who's died turning back up in some form or another? One of the more interesting things is how we decided, from the get-go, that we needed to be prudent in this and take into account people's feelings... for example, what about Grosse Île? This was the terminus for most European immigrants coming to Canada in the late nineteenth through mid-twentieth century. There were many outbreaks of disease in it's operating time and many died on the island literally in sight of Montreal and their dreams of coming to Canada. I asked my group, if we heard of any, should "we" cover ghost stories there? Interestingly enough, the response was negative... it was still "too soon" and there were still people who saw the island as a memorial to those immigrants who breathed their last, dying in a bid to become Canadian. That said, apparently it has become "fashionable" for (sorry to say again,) certain "right-wing" bloggers in Canada to mock the holocaust... which means, in my reckoning, that a small band of paranormal investigators and researchers have better ethics and morals than those who purport to be the "moral compass" of their own nation.
#13: Love him or hate him... I was a fan... and I appreciated him... and of all the things I have said in this Thursday Thirteen, the late Peter Gzowski, a CBC radio personality, journalist, and writer sums it up nicely...
This is what prompted this list... although this mitigated my venom a touch.
Wordless Wednesday: Two Memes For The Price of one PART DEUX!
NO BUSES NOW FOR TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!! That is a record... but I enjoyed the alter-meme I did last week so much, that I'm doin' it ONE LAST TIME here on Wordless Wednesday...
So, once again, CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED (if you so desire) with this meme...
Here's how it works.
Go to "Google", and type in your birthday... so for me, May 31 1967
Switch the search items to "Images" and show us five that pop up ON THE FIRST PAGE of the Google search! (No cheating!)
Thanks to the good Rev. Anaglyph for this meme...
...and here's the SECOND five from the FIRST PAGE ONLY I came up with...
It appears I share my birthday with ballplayer Kenny Lofton!
Original Link
...and I share the same birthday with fellow Ontarian/Canadian "Centenary Kid" and pro-grappler, Vampiro!
Original Link
Vampiro, Kenny, and I were also brought about as the guys at the US Naval Dept. started playing with GPS satellites. This is a picture of TIMATION I which launched on our birthdate heralding in the modern age of having a computer in your car direct you directly into a swamp or suggesting going the wrong way on a one-way street to get to your destination.
Original Link
Saw this one... and since we're still digging out from being buried in a tonne of snow, the image only makes one sigh deeply... It's a Japanese album by Sadao Watanabe who is known for being involved with Brazilian music.
Original Link
Last, but most certainly not least, is this image of the composer and pianist, Billy Strayhorn (who composed "Lush Life" while only a teen!) who passed away while I, Kenny, and Vamp were coming into this world...
Original Link
HONOURABLE MENTION must go to a fellow traveller in the blogsphere, The Cheek That Doth Not Fade, as a picture he posted of his wife made my "page" in Google... I don't wish to reproduce it and his words, to someone who has strong ties to the military, do more justice to the power of the image than I could ever try... Click here to see the post and the image I am referring to.
Categories: Monday before Post Nothing Tuesdays!
I think "Tuesdays" will now be... NOTHING TUESDAYS! (...and some quick notes...)
Seriously. I think I'm creating a NEW meme... "Don't Post Anything Tuesdays"!
The concept is that I will actually take a more-or-less permanent day off... TUESDAY! Yup, every week, NO NEW POST on TUESDAY!
There will be "fresh posts" every other day... but I must abide by my new meme... "Don't Post Anything Tuesdays"!
Of course, I may need to ignore my meme... y'know, if something cool or relevant pops up... but otherwise, as of tomorrow, I'm a keepin' my new meme!
Since we all enjoy a train wreck now and again...
It's kinda weird to see what's going on with our Paranormal Blog... well, on this post in particular... if you read the comments.
I had to "nuke" one earlier today... and answer a sticky question while I'm trying to remain neutral about a couple known in the paranormal field simply as The Warrens.
Granted, we must stay neutral in this... after all, we were simply reporting the news, not trying to stir a hornets nest...
...oh, and ALL the I.P. numbers on those comments check out okay... and we can verify that it is legitimately Carl Glatzel commenting... beyond that, EVERY I.P. number in the comments is from either Texas, Virginia, or Connecticut for the most part.
If you missed the link, here it is again.
It's fascinating to watch, really... at least, for us it is...
STILL no new news on the possible sale of RLH 3...
I gotta be honest... this (with me) is either a VERY good sign... or a bad sign... but after the family weekend we shared this past Sat. and Sun. where the dream was ACTUALLY re-kindled with some discussion during the snowstorm we had... I'm kinda entering into this week with renewed optimism!
Now, again, this is either a "good" thing... or once again, the cosmic joker's way of getting ready to pull the rug out from under me...
...one or the other...
Wish me luck.
If you didn't see it last week, I did update the posting about the whole dream... it can be accessed by clicking here.
Since ONE person asked, allow me to 'splain my whacky (sorry Andy,) FaceBook image...
...came from a series of WWII poster for American soldier to know their allies...
I assure you, and no offence to the fine soldier in this poster above, not all Canadians look like this... but hey, I guess the Yanks had to start with some image... after all, in WWII, look who else "fought for freedom" apparently...
Yes! I know my history... don't send hate-mail or make silly comments...
Thanks to the New Hampshire State Library for the images...
...and The Rev. Anaglyph for first showing them to me so I knew of their existence.
So, that's it until Wordless Wednesday... where I think I'll continue my meme there from last week... 'cuz it was COOL!
Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Blog Your Blessing Sundays!
For those that haven't figured it out, it's been a rather rough few weeks for us here at The Bus... Between work in our hobby, work at (well,) work, and the normal rigmarole, it's been a little insane... and often extremely frustrating!
Scene from outside our window yesterday...
That said, we made it to the weekend... and, in all honesty, compared to LAST weekend, this has been a lovely and relaxing time for the whole family...
The kid is home reading the third book in the "Twilight" series quietly... the puppies are playing about or snoozing... the cats are doing "things catly"... Sue and I are still working, but the pace is much more survivable...
...it's a nice weekend so far... save a small blizzard happening... but from the inside, it's just pretty for us to watch.
Last night, we stayed in... ordered Chinese food (told them to "take their time" in the weather... we were okay if it was late)... watched some TV... chatted... and even talked things busly... which, happily, is still on EVERYONE'S radar here.
Y'know, the whole "bus thing" came about because we used to NEED to talk and dream and fantasize to escape a little from bad times... well, the really bad times are pretty much over... and it's really cool that we indeed STILL do get together, not for "need", but because we want to... and yup, we all still all dream about our bus... and making our dream come true... the whole family is still "on board" (forgive the pun.)
...some things never change... and in this case, that's a good thing.
So, thinking of this weekend... and the blessing of simply spending time with the family, My blessing today is Sundays... Blog your blessing and otherwise... but yeah, it's a "Blog Your Blessing" Sunday here... so there you have it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, there's a hot cup of mulled apple cider and another fun documentary waiting for me on the couch!
Scene from our window yesterday...
They Are Here...
Well, actually they were here yesterday... but since I do a "meme" on Fridays, I waited until now to show off...
MY BOOTY PICTURES~!
Yup, FINALLY... and I was getting VERY worried as the communications with the company I bought them from were NON-EXISTENT... that said, despite me getting VERY paranoid that I'd tossed money into a pit of no return, they showed up...
This is them after their FIRST OFFICIAL DAY! Yup, they did about a mile today all told... and yup, I treated 'em like mad for water and salt protection which was WISE in Toronto...
Still, it didn't stop me from (sadly) experiencing my first "scuff" to the leather of the toe!
The Truth: I was sitting on the bus and some guy stepped on my toe. Granted, it didn't hurt much because it's tough and reinforced leather... but it left the scuff none-the-less... and the twit didn't even apologise!
The Factually Challenged Embellishment: A so-called right-wing Conservative blogger, who recognised me as someone who actually wants to clean up pollution, saw me on the bus. "You moonbat nut job! If my 1972 Eldorado or my Hummer was working, I wouldn't be on this death-trap of a disease incubator with you, you communist tree-hugger! Say, are those NEW BOOTS! DAMN YOU TO HELL!" to which he leaped onto my toe scuffing them permanently. Of course, I took the moderate approach, got off the bus with him at the next stop... and I promise his next of kin they'll find MOST of his body after Spring thaw.
I'll just use some polish to fix it later.
#7 - High Five Fridays
"High Five Fridays" is a GREAT meme... and was started by bloggers who deal in "erotica" and therefore, certain links may be of a more "Adult" variety... If you see the dreaded "NSFW" (Not Safe for Work) or "NWS" (Not Work Safe) and you're of a more delicate constitution, please do not click on those links. That said, this new "meme" is a great idea... and I am glad it exists and plan on using it to it's fullest potential!
So, without further adieu... actually, this week... there IS further adieu...
Normally, I list blogs... today, just to stir the pot, I'm listing FIVE excellent websites that amuse, entertain, and enlighten me!
So, on that note...
My Seventh High-Five Friday...
#5: Is the PSICAN Message Board. If you're interested in ghosts, hauntings, UFOs, cryptozoology, psychical phenomena, and other things... it's a great place. Sure, it's my (and Sue's) website (we've been doing the "paranormal thing" for over a decade now)... and my (and Sue's) servers... and it MAY seem like "self promotion"... but I have about as much control over that message board as you would if you tried to herd cats.
The main PSICAN site (and group) is under serious renovations behind the scene... but the message board will remain... and Sue's site (ParaResearchers) and my site (Torontoghosts) are humming along.
WARNING: Yes, we take this stuff seriously... and we accept EVERYONE'S point of view and this means there are those who are true believers... and those who are non-believers (or "so-called sceptics")... and yet, flame wars are almost unheard of! It's a place to discuss, share, and yes, debate.
...so this is really a "High Five" to the "IRREGULARS" on the PSICAN Message Board.
#4: Staying in the realm of the paranormal, The Anomalist is a GREAT site that culls "paranormal news" from the mainstream and not-so mainstream sources. The amount of effort to comb through teh interwebs and grab these stories totally deserves a high-five!
#3: My one "guilty pleasure" is pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts... and my not-so-guilty, worth EVERY penny I pay for membership (less than eight-bucks a month) pleasure is the articles and podcasts from Figure Four Online.
Bryan Alvarez, Vincent Verhei, Mike Sempervive, and the good doctor, Keith Lipinski are all there brightening my commute with tales of mat-madness and brutal violence... er, good displays of athleticism.
#2: Okay, there's NO DOUBT our bus comes first... but should those lottery tickets in my wallet come in, that's when my next dream vehicles kicks in... and cruising the ads on Barnstormers make me feel all tingly like!
#1: I am a happily admitted thanatologist... and to feed my more macabre side, very little online brings me more joy than perusing Find-a-Death.
A great combination of gossip, trivia, and of course death... Scott Michaels has done an extraordinary job of maintaining an entertaining and fun website of the lives and, of course, the deaths (and details therein) of celebs and such. This site is WAY too fun. If you click on the "Directory" and start going through things, prepare to lose several hours... it's fantastic.
Find out how to give your High-Five Fridays here!
The purpose of this meme is to give high-fives to 5 people, posts, blogs and/or websites you've admired during the week. I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 5 high-fives on Friday. Trackbacks, pings, linky widgets, comment links accepted!
Visiting fellow High-Fivers is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your High-Fives in others comments (please note if NSFW - Not Safe for Work).
Thursday Thirteen 36... 9... 12... - Thirteen Scaled Aggravations
THURSDAY THIRTEEN!
I admit... it's been a tiring few days... and along came Thursday and my creative well was comin' up dry... but then, in a flash... I thought how about...
THIRTEEN
"MATTHEW'S AGGRAVATION SCALE"
RATINGS
#13: Can I get some money from you to go out with friends? (as asked by the kiddollo...)
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 1 out of 10
It would be lower than a one 'cuz kids need to ask for help... but usually this question comes before "Hi! Welcome home from work! How was your day?" when I come in the door.
#12: "Hello! Do you need your carpets cleaned? How about a newspaper subscription?" (usually requested by phone... usually at dinner time.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 4 out of 10
This is mitigated by the existence of Tom Mabe... and the (hopefully working one day) no-call list.
#11: Walking along a sidewalk at a good pace when the person directly in front of you stops DEAD in their tracks to do "something" causing you to halt as rapidly.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 6 out of 10
This becomes an 8 out of 10 if it's to talk with the person they're walking with who also stops... thus barring your path completely... and a 6.5 out of ten if it's a bunch of nitwits standing and obstructing the sidewalk to "chat" or smoke...
#10: Political bloggers who either lie, are racist, are sexist, can't read, use bad facts, and are so wound up in their religion philosophy hero worship posts that they mistake good manners for the evil thing known as "political correctness".
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 9.9 out of 10
Okay, unless you're with certain "fringe" elements, chances are the heads of your party are NOT racist, sexist, or ignorant... so why are you? Also, don't report "rumours" as truth... or be ignorant and hostile to anyone with a differing opinion than your own. Being nice, respectful, and intelligent is called "good manners" and "common courtesy"... and should not be shunned as something else. You're not attracting me to your thinking and getting me to support your "party", you're pushing me away... and yes, I do vote... always.
#9: Thank you for buying the electronic thingy from our store. Wanna buy the extended warranty? C'mon, buy the extended warranty! Let me tell you about the extended warranty! YOU MUST BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! I'll kill all the little ones in this box of puppies if you don't buy the extended warranty...
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 5 out of 10
Just let me buy my toy! I don't want the warranty! Geez, lemme guess? You're commissioned on warranties, aren't you?
#8: Puddle near sidewalk + fast moving vehicle = wet and dirty person.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 9.3 out of 10
Mitigated by the fact that at times, in the right moment, it can get you time off work. "I can't stay here! Look at me!"
Mitigation rebuffed because stupid idiots who get a kick out of doing that and TRY have been known to lose control of their cars and kill folks.
#7: Look! One of the dogs ate my favourite book!
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 7.8 out of 10
I love my dogs... I love my dogs... I love my dogs...
#6: Bank Service Charges
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 3 out of 10
'Nuff said. I mean, I can't deny these people (here in Canada,) their billion-dollar profit reports PER QUARTER! They NEED their money from us!
#5: The site's down.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 2 out of 10
Outages happen... and when our servers "burp", it doesn't phase me too much...
...but if the outage lasts more than an hour, it becomes a 5 out of 10...
...and if I get e-mails from people telling me the site's down when it goes down for less than ten minutes, it becomes a 6 out of 10.
#4: My mouse stopped working! (said at my office...)
Now, before I rate this one, remember... I am in "I.T."... and it's my job to fix problems... but when a person calls and says this, I always ask, "Is it plugged in?" and they always say "Yes! I checked!"... and then I go to the person and find out, shock, it's not plugged in...
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 6.7 out of 10
#3: You spelled a word wrong on your site.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 5.5 out of 10
This goes up to a 7 out of 10 if they DON'T bother to tell me WHERE the misspelling is.
The part that niggles at me about this... how much do I charge to look at ANY of the websites I work on??? Answer: NOTHING!
I often consider sending them an e-mail offering them a FULL refund for their horror, torment, and issues with my lack of proper spell-checking.
#2: Look! It's late at night, you're tired, you wanna crash, and one of your pets has been ill on your bed!
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 6.9 out of 10
I love my dogs... I love my cats... I love my dogs... I love my cats...
#1: Being creatively bankrupt for an idea for a Thursday Thirteen.
Matthew's Scale of Aggravation Rating: 4 out of 10
Something usually comes up to fill the space... and I hope it's amusing... I know my last week's was 'cuz over THREE-THOUSAND HITS on that day!
Wordless Wednesday: Two Memes For The Price of ONE!
NOT BUSLY STUFF TODAY! (But don't think I've lost the passion of the dream... see Monday nights post to prove that...)
Anyway, instead, I'm doing an "Open Meme" I found that dovetails WONDERFULLY with Wordless Wednesday... and I'm tossing it back at all of you as a meme if you wish to do it... Consider yourself tagged.
Here's how it works.
Go to "Google", and type in your birthday... so for me, May 31 1967
Switch the search items to "Images" and show us five that pop up ON THE FIRST PAGE of the Google search! (No cheating!)
Thanks to the good Rev. Anaglyph for this meme...
...and here's my five from the FIRST PAGE ONLY I came up with...
From the Clear Creek Watershed Authority, here's a photo of a damaged overpass in Texas as a result of flooding.
Original Link
Dr. George Jeffries Mueller was a researcher and investigator into (get this,) the unknown... (sounds familiar...) and worked with George W. Meek, an industrialist who funded many experiments, studies, and even expeditions looking into the "stranger" things in this world... Dr. Mueller passed on my birthday... if he had a thing for double-decker buses, perhaps he was a past life of mine!
Original Link
From the Canadian Government's online archive of military graves is this one... of Roxanne Elizabeth Gates who passed away (also) on my birthday... at the age of 11 days. She was the daughter of Private and Mrs. JH Gates. The page this originates from shows her old stone... but this one, that popped up in my "meme" attempt, is the new replacement stone.
Original Link
This barely readable thing above is graphed data collected by the Jicamarca IS Radar at Jicamarca, Peru... it's collected data shown above showing the atmospheric electron density, electron temperatures, and ion temperatures for May 30 - 31 of 1967.
Original Link
An old ad from the "Sky-Vu" drive in... I now must see "Dr. Goldfoot & The Girl Bombs". (Starring Vincent Price and Fabian!)
Okay... meanwhile back on topic...
Okay folks, sorry about the drama there... and soon I will be able to "tell the tale of the tape" as to what's going on... Suffice to say that Sue and Matthew are OKAY, going good, and all is well...
...and that we're SWAMPED with work... some of which is rather odd and important... but sadly for me, not "busly" related... mostly ghostly stuff... (Whee~!)
That said, I think I've shaken the bad vibes loose... and am getting my sea-legs back in order... and managing to deal with a lot of crud and crapulence...
Ergo: During my "downtimes"...
...MUST...CONCENTRATE...ON...THINGS...BUSLY!
They make me happy...
I gotta be honest, the bus would have been VERY handy this weekend past for us... as an ESCAPE vehicle! Yup, away from the 'net, away from "things ghostly"... just away! Y'know, get myself rested, re-charged, and READY for ACTION!
...which this evening consists of fixing databases and clearing out e-mails and trying to figure out what news I can spill and what news must be suppressed for safety and security reasons...
...and no, none of it revolved around "He Who Can Not Be Named" or my new pal, Barney!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, during this "less than 24 hour" hiatus I tried to take, I received an e-mail from someone asking THE POINT of this blog and why it has it's unusual name.
Okay, I know it's on the "side bar"... but for those NOT in the know, click here... please note that I have updated that post as of today... to kinda explain what's been a-happenin'.
Oh, by the way... last week's Thursday Thirteen I wrote... MOST HITS EVER! People seem to like the funny!
Hey, I got a whacky thing to ask all of you... I'm SERIOUSLY considering corresponding with (or trying to) Conrad Black while he's killing time... I don't want to get into a debate with anyone, but believe it or not, I have a lot of respect for the man... and perhaps, during this "downtime", he might have some suggestions on ways to find (read: make) $20k to make a busly dream come true.
Whadya think? I'm deadly serious... I mean, I have to ask if he has any ideas... the worst he can say is "No", right?
So, it'll be back to "same-old-same-old" by Wednesday... hang in there... and fingers crossed the DREAM will COME TRUE!
(There's still hope!)
Not fair... let me get out my blessing...
I wasn't going to post a blessing because... well... I had written a blessing... a lengthy one.
It was part rant, and ended in an optimistic way about my feelings and how things would hopefully go... it was based on a wonderful dream I had... and in that dream, things were wonderful, but there was reminders of what that "rant" was about... to be honest, it was my torn old jacket... but it (the dream,) was like things were awful... but there was goodness and brightness in what was happening and what I think would be the end result.
...and that blessing, when setting it "to pixels" in the morning, was pretty soundly shot down.
I won't lie... this upset me greatly... and I went for a walk...
Now, it may sound corny... but there's been many times in my life where a dream... an expression... something I thought was "excellent" or even "good" had been trampled and effectively wrested from me... and like all those times, I took a walk... downtrodden and feeling very abandoned and sad... in all cases, like my future and my present was pointless.
...and every time, during those walks away from the anger or great sadness... one song always goes through my mind...
It went through my head when I was at the hospital the night my father died... it went through my mind when I was truly wandering homeless wondering where I'd sleep on those nights when things were bad... it played out in my head when I was upset over a million different things... it's a song that actually carried me.
I know... corny... and perhaps, in these situations, a little depressive... but it gets me through... and when I'm at my end, it's a song that's meant something to me... and for that, it's a blessing.
I'm pretty down right now... and may be for a while... and that's a long story as to why... so I am going to take time off from blogging... well, until my "Wordless Wednesday" again.
ISSUES! Don't misread this... Sue and I are fine... no issues there... it's other things that bit me in the bum. Sorry if I gave any inference in any other way.
Hang in there! - Blessing coming later...
Sorry for the delays... the blessing will be up later today. It's been a very busy weekend with things "ghostly"... long story...
UPDATE 10:49am EST: Sorry, strike that... I'm afraid there won't be any blog entries today or tomorrow.
I do apologise to my readers... but I must give my attention to some other matters.
If you're wondering why the little to no post today...
It's because the video below, from YouTube, sums up how I'm feeling today...
...so I think I'll take a wee break and catch a cat-nap or seven.
See you for my "Blog Your Blessing Sunday" tomorrow!
