Wordless Wednesday: Revisiting the past...

This Wednesday, I tapped "The London Transport Museum Collection" again from their poster collection this time... Unknown to many people outside London, London Transport often commissioned some amazing artists to do artwork for their posters... Click here to view more than the few I've included below... if you like art, it's WELL worth the click!

...and just for some fun...

Although one could "hop" on a bus, I'd recommend using both feet.

...we can relate to the above one right now...

Sure, THIS bus is free... well, for a day...

A modern poster saying "Keep it green by using public transport"? Nope... it's from 1961!!!

...and the last one's for Sue... specially commissioned by London General (the bus company that would become London Transport) to aid in tourism...

Sue's Queen...

Great nostalgia there.

I need to think about this Wordless Wednesday, but getting me to shut up isn't easy.

On a side note, I'm keeping Sue in my thoughts, and any ideas why her blog is so hard to load for me, but yours pops right up?
Thanks :)

Hey Sweety... Yup, I saw her and thought, "She is for Sue!"

Hello Jessie... I try to mix 'em up!

Hiya Jeanine... What I loved is the artistry... it's quite spectacular in some of the posters!

Hey There, Penelope Anne... Thanks... Sue really appreciates it... I'll go through her code this weekend and try to find the culprit!

Howdy liza... I wish they WERE mine... they're from the London Transport's Museum Collection...

Salutations, mommy's little corner... Thanks kindly!

I really love that first picture. It's like something out of a book I want to read. I read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere thinking it would be about a lost world kind of thing. It was and I liked it.

Happy WW. I'm lazy... er... late getting mine out today.

The one you noted with "we can relate" strikes me as whimsical and contemporary. What fun. Thanks for this series. They are beautiful posters.

Love these old LT ads..

I was at the LT museum a few weeks ago, wonderful.. I also have a whole book of this type of art!

On another note, I saw your comment on Lauras blog re FF 3..

Installed it but it's not very good (yet) as the extensions are not compatible.

Hey Lady Banana... Well, it is a beta version (the new one yet to come) and it does run along side your old one... so I thought it might have been a good balance. In time, all extension will work when they do the "final release"...

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

Allow me to start with we do not own nor are we selling a bus. Just had to get that out...

This blog was started in April of 2006... during a very bad time for me and my family when money was very tight and life was very hard.

We maintained by fantasizing... talking about what we would do when times were better... and as Sue and myself are Anglophiles, England factored greatly into our "plans".

During these bad times, while looking at news items and whatnot as London was removing their venerable old Routemasters, I came across one photo of an old green bus... and somehow, my whole family adopted it. It became very much "our bus". (Details about "our bus" are available by clicking here.)

Like most of you, I'd heard about the fellow who'd made a million dollars selling tiny ads online... and the fellow who did trades and turned a paper clip into a house... so I thought, since we couldn't make our bus actually into "our bus" (well beyond our means,) I'd try and appeal... to make the focused item of our hopes into a tangible thing in our lives...

More specifically, in a burst of adult/juvenile optimism, I had hoped to show the youngest member of the family, who at the time was still very young and impressionable, that dreams really could become reality if you hope and, more importantly, try.

Well, I'm pretty sure you figured it out... we failed... and the youngest has reached an age where she is more cynical than much else about the world which isn't a dreadful thing... but there's a "good news" portion to this... money is better, life has improved, and some people really liked my rambling here... so, I decided to keep things going... Yes, I will "give up" on asking for help on a bus... and have to give up on even trying to get the bus and be far more realistic... but I don't mind (I actually enjoy,) venting, trying my hand at humour, and generally keeping on online presence outside my usual things.

Thanks to those who were/are "Busly Dream" enthusiasts... I suppose that our buses now will be single-deck with the letters "TTC" emblazoned on them... but this blog will live!
