Got another rant... and I may take heat for it... BUT FIRST...

First off, allow me to address something made VERY clear (multiple times) to me via e-mail about yesterday's rant... Yes, I know that China and India are THE WORST offenders as far as pollution and therefore, yes, carbon pollution and global warming.

...but my point is, we can make a SMALL difference which is a start... and then start HOPING and TRYING convince the populace of those countries to start realising that IN SOME ASPECTS, we share this planet... and their bad is NOT just our bad... it's hurting them too.

...but we CAN still do OUR part. Get the ball rolling, so to speak. Prove we're "ahead" of the game... an all without hurting ourselves.

Think this is a lot of cod's wollop? Think it can't be done? Think that cleaning up our act to a degree will be meaningless and cause us all undue economic hardship? Click here. In North America, when industry AND people were told they HAD to change things to lessen the effects of acid rain, I heard ALL ABOUT the rampant unemployment and horrible economic effects that would happen when the changes went down...

What happened?

North America cleaned up it's act... and acid rain is no longer a BAD issue here (it's still around, but not as bad...) AND guess what? The quality of life was NOT affected!

Guess which countries are now suffering HORRIBLE effects of acid rain?

C'mon now, guess!

If you said China and India, YOU'D BE RIGHT!

Ten'll get ya twenty they WILL end up doing something about it... just like we had to do... and guess what else that will accomplish?

I look at the utter morons that say, Why should we do anything about pollution and global warming if China and India won't? and think this is like saying, Why should I vacuum my carpet? My neighbour doesn't! I bet they don't ever flush their toilet either, so I'm gonna stop now too!

Sorry folks, we gotta do SUMTHIN'!

Okay, now the rant I'm REALLY gonna take heat on...

What a sweet creature... PLEASE don't beat it to death with us!

I have friends that have a cat. That's not the rant... we have three ourselves... but this friend is also a "tech-nut"... which again, is not a rant because, hey, I'm sitting in a room that has three high-end system within a few feet of each other and technology has put bread on my table for over a decade...

No... it's the combination of cat-lovin' techno-nuts that has led to something I find VERY disturbing.

The friends have placed web-cams around their home (save a few strategic locations,) to... here it comes...

Now, at first, I thought the cat might have been getting up to "mischief" and they were trying to figure out the "whats" and "wheres"... but I was corrected... no...

It's because they just love their snuggly-wuggly-lumpkin kitty just ever so much that they want to know what the furry critter is up to 24x7.

That's right, they have a personal "web-cam kitty".

Folks, having a photo or two of your pets I can understand... having them up at your desk or workplace is understandable...

But when one of your major reasons for having stable, high-speed internet at home is to keep track of the box-user... you got issues in my eyes.

I love my two yappy boys... I love my three furry girls... and our two little guys and our winged couple... and our "world's biggest dwarf"...

...but not ONCE have I had the desire to ensure that their movements are tracked LIVE ONLINE while I'm struggling at the office.

Most weekdays, I'm quite content with my greeting on my arrival and the snuggling at bedtime, thanks kindly... the still pictures fill the gap nicely.

So, for those people who "blog" for their pets (you've seen 'em... "Fluffy's Diaries" and whatnot...) you have a NEW level to achieve!

Please don't try.

It's kinda disturbing to the rest of us.

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

I never get email about my posts/rants. Either I'm not controversial enough, or I've made them all askeered of me. LOL

I totally agree with you. We should all do our part - won't change our lives much at all, and will have a huge impact on the environment if we're all doing it.

My lightbulbs are all squiggly and weird lookin' - but I hear they're the ones I'm supposed to use.. I recycle, reduce, reuse.. I even won't buy certain products because they've got way too much packaging and maybe they'll get the hint if enough of us boycott their products. I reuse plastic bags AND have a bunch of canvas ones (they say Compaq, funnily enough.. from the Hubby's days there. LOL) - although I still can't figure out why they can recycle plastic, but can't make recyclable plastic bags.. ?!

As for the kitty people.. yeah.. that's just wrong. I blog about my pets.. mostly 'cause they're big ol' ****tards.. but honestly? I don't think I *WANT* to know what they do when I'm not around. :D

ONIT... Sadly, I believe there are two reasons I get e-mail about posts here from several readers...

#1: They can be REALLY mean without going public.

#2: They feel that, since we ARE asking for something, they have a right to demand ANSWERS!

I'd agree on both parts, really...

...anyway, yeah, the cat people are... um... odd.

You forgot #3. You actually post it on the side of your blog without making everyone click on your profile first. ;)

Speaking of.. that weather thing is new!! :)

I'd have thought the cat people were more odd if they had.. oh, I dunno.. set it up to record their guinea pigs while at work. :D I think ours just hang out and snooze.. when they're not whooping at each other and Tully. LOL

ONIT... Yeah, I found the "Weather Plug-In" and LOVED it! Sue's using it on "The Urban Zoo" now too!

Ain't Guineas grand? We had a few... and they are wonderful pets... but yeah, they ain't all that exciting during daylight so I 'spose that could be worse than the "cat cams"... but not much. Guineas would need what... Two cams MAYBE? These people have about ten.

Spooky stuff.

Isn't it cool when someone notices you're wearing a new accessory? :)

I call 'em my piggles. They're adorable. :) The cooing is awesome. It's like having tribbles. :)

I'll be the cat people go deeper.. I'll bet its a kitty porn ring or something. Sick, twisted minds, cat people.

ONIT... Thinking porn and cats... and a name used for cats beginning with "P"... and how a search engine might lead people to the wrong conclusion if they saw a site that says "Watch My P..."

You ever see the "Skinny Pigs"? The hairless variety? My little one wants one of them right now... I ain't sold on 'em personally.

That site must get a lot of disappointed visitors.. kinda like mine when they do searches for giant dild... uhm... yeah..

Had a skinny pig. It died after a week. Dunno why. We did everything right, treated it like a little king.. my son was heartbroken. That's how we ended up with three regular piggles. :) Too much genetic altering can lead to many health problems. :(

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
