So close... so close, and yet so far..., how many of you just started singing "My Eyes Adored You"?

Actually, how many people read the titles of my blog entries?

An RLH and a Bristol K - Difficult to tell apart for some...

ANYWAY, there is reason to this madness.

Got an e-mail from a friend alerting me that a bus which looks very much like the one [we're] trying to purchase was spotted in an auto-shop in Toronto.

Now, I ain't gonna lie... I got legitimately excited.

The reason?

Well, there's always that "off chance" that someone, somewhere is going to surprise us and Voila! There it is one day...

I know, "pipe dream", but I still have it... heck, we all (here at the homestead) have it.

I fired off a rapid e-mail asking about it's colour to ensure it might be RLH 3...

The answer was no... it's red, not green.

The super-bus-geek in me was able to most likely tell him which bus it actually was...

On a hunch, it's KEL 724... a Hants and Dorset Bristol K bus... a "wide bodied" bus (8 feet instead of 7) which, I believe, was purchased by a Toronto tour group for their fleet... but perhaps they've given up on her... or the work is taking a LONG time...

KEL 724 in Toronto last Summer

There's a picture of her "in her prime" at the link and this link.

She's a beauty and we'd love to have her... and I even asked the friend if, in his travels he stops by the auto-shop, to ask if she's for sale...

...but sadly, she's not our dear RLH 3... and although they're both "low bridge" models, as regular readers know, RLH 3 is pretty near and dear to our heart...

Would we say no to KEL 724?

No way! We'd STILL be trying for RLH 3... but we'd love to have another bus to play with try to fix and restore!

...and if the price is right... :)

Don't worry, THAT price would have to be so low that I could afford it myself... which would be very, Very, VERY low... but what is it I always say 'cuz me mum used to say it all the time?

Ask. The worst anyone can say is no.

Anyway, I admit to being a little "let down" that a benefactor hadn't been trying to ready a HUGE surprise for us... but it's not the first time... and probably won't be the last I think that we're so close... so close and yet find our we're still so far. :)

Gotta keep plugging away!

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

M'kay, so cool about the bus!! Have you called? What'd you find out? How much??? :)

And second.. yes, I do read your titles.. but no, I didn't think about .. uhm.. eyes and ... something.. 'cause I'm not a huge Frankie Valley (er whutever) fan. I'm not even a little one. In 1975, I was.. 6. I really liked the Mr. Roger's Neighbourhood theme song..

ONIT... We don't know the name of the yard yet... Matt C. is looking into it (gently and over time) so it'll be a while... AND ARE YOU CALLING US OLD!?! Geez, we're only TWO years older that you for goodness sake... although, as I like to point out often, SUE'S OLDER THAN ME! ( just a TOUCH over five months... She's my cougar!)

~shocked look~ I would NEVER call Sue old. EVER. Although it is cute that she's your cougar. LOL

Two years can mean the world of difference in some cases. 'specially when I still act like a 6 yr old. LOL My husband is 6 years older than I am.. and you'd think it was a span of generations sometimes. ESPECIALLY when referring to music of HIS time vs music of MY time. :D

ONIT... Also, two-years in old fashioned "dog years" would be FOURTEEN! That would be significant!

ONIT... Hey you whipper-snapper! You be nice there or I'll whack you with my walker! I tell you, don't make me resort to fisticuffs! In my day, you could spend a whole day at the "ex" for a NICKLE and come back with change and a potato sack full of candy!

~snort~ "fisticuffs" "whipper-snapper"

What's next? I'm a hooligan up to my old shenanigans, huh? :D

I'll bet you walked there, too.. uphill.. both ways... for 20 miles. In sleet in the middle of summer. Just to get those Tiny Tom donuts. :D

(Hell, I would!)

And I DO respect my elders.. Well, not the ones that stop me on the bus.. 'cause they're just freaky.. but .. some of them.

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
