High Weirdness With The Bus and Me...

This is a repost... well, a re-edit and re-post... I don't feel TOO bad about this as, if you look below, there's a "Blogtalkers" post from earlier today AND a "Blog Your Blessing Sunday"... but I had a request to re-post the "synchronicities" that exist with the bus and ourselves...

So, here's our BUSLY SYNCHRONICITY...

#1: Sue and I really chose our neighbourhood from the heart. We live in a place that isn't terribly handy to either of our work places (back when we moved) and we knew there were "issues" with moving into an old building with NO ELEVATOR (fourth floor walk-up) and NO AIR CONDITIONING (low amp circuits can't handle them)... but we loved (and love) the place SO much, that we have no intentions of moving until we purchase a home... and we're hoping to stay in the neighbourhood...

We literally visited the area (and building) on a fluke during a stroll for some exorcise... and JUST after Sue said she would NEVER live in an apartment building during this walk, I pointed to this one and said, How about that one? and she said, Yes. I like that one.

The next week, we visited again and KISMET! There was a two-bedroom just made available... we applied... and we're in it now as I type.

Again, this all pre-dates finding the bus... and the dream... but it's our neighbourhood and here we are.

Fast-forward to a few scant months ago, the blog here is in full swing and we're trying to make our dream of owning RLH 3 a reality...

While looking through old Toronto Transit information, I found that Toronto Transit DID run double-deckers (see the pic above)... way back when our building was brand new... and those old double-deckers ran on ONE route only...

Guess what it passed on it's journeys to and fro?

Yup, our apartment building.

Wheee!

#2: One of it's former residences was in Roswell, New Mexico ...and the fact that Sue's a Ufologist and we both study the paranormal makes this one's my favourite! We don't know (yet) if the bus is haunted... but considering it's journeys, if we find ANY debris from a UFO in the bus, we'll let everyone know.

Bday Cake

#3: RLH 3 began life on May 31st, 1950... and I began life on May 31st, 1967... so we share a birthday.

LT Bus Stop

#4: When last in England, I use to take a long walk through London almost every night... it ends up that the route I walked was RLH 3's "centre city" route when it came in from the country... this was it's longest lasting route when in service. Needless to say, the last time I was in London was 1995 and I knew nothing of RLH 3... I just liked the walk.

Advance, by the centre, MARCH!

#5: While "Googling" RLH 3, I came across this...

Table of contents for Battlegrounds of freedom : a historical guide to the battlefields of the War of American Independence / Norman Desmarais.

RLH-3: Re-enacting, family activities, children and cooking.

...which I found weird since we're (the family) War of 1812 re-enactors.

...and for those wondering, RLH 3 is "Regent Low Height 3" to us... yup, our bus...

...and I've often joked that we would be "back in the field" with the re-enactors when we could drive there in our bus.

BlogTalkers: Someone read my "Blog Your Blessing Sunday"!

BlogTalkers!

This week's question/request...

What do you most enjoy, or miss, about being single?

Yo-Ho! Yo-Ho! A Bachelor's Life For Me!

woo hoo.

Ahhhh... single-hood! How do I miss thee, let me count the ways...

Oh, the life I had as a merry bachelor... the not caring about money so blowing it constantly on stupidity and therefore going from feast to famine constantly and spending most of my time broke... the "not being sure what I'm doing the next day" so ending up with Vampire hours as a living arrangement making waking up for work difficult at best... the loud music and parties which felt great when they happened, not-so-great the day after and probably reduced my life expectancy by many years... the menu of a man who, although able to cook, hated buying groceries that would go bad so thoughts like Is left over Kentucky Fried Chicken okay after ten days of refrigeration? were not uncommon... the constant worry that anyone gives a sweet damn about me... the pressure from family, friends, and hormones to find a mate...

What's not to love?

Now, I admit... reading the above, if you were a psychiatrist, you might be concerned with me being attached as an "act" to avoid these things... but it isn't. Sue and I were friends and colleagues first and instead of a "spark" right away, it grew and continues to grow...

...that said...

I know too many people that are trying to recapture their supposed "happy youth" and doing things they ASSUME will make this happen. The most common of which is divorcing or splitting with people to become a "happy single".

Ah yes, FREEDOM! (they think...)

Y'know what... there ARE bad marriages... there are people that need to be apart... and then there's people that ASSUME their lives will be infinitely better if they're "free" and "single" despite their marriage probably being very sound... save their now Forever Seventeen thought process.

...and of the people that "took the plunge" to single-hood for thrills and "freedom" that I know, how many are happy when they became single...? (...not counting those who left a marriage for genuine reasons as opposed to simply "fond memories" of their single-life...)

NONE.

In fact, the greener pastures they set out for often turn to a tangle of swamps. Women who were fending off suitors as a teen and have "flirty-friends" as an adult often find life as a legitimate single not what they expected and the characture of the cougar is pretty much the usual destination for their new journey... and men that believe that being single will open the doors to those "hot babes" they see wandering around are just sad and pathetic... does the words "aging hipster" mean anything to you?

I don't mean to depress anyone out there, but honestly, MOST people over the age of thirty who are single are single for a reason... and it ain't good... and rare is the exception.

Now, if ANYONE is wondering, I love Sue VERY much... see my "Blog You Blessing" below if you doubt this... but do I miss anything about being without her?

NO!

Not a bit!

I wouldn't trade my life now to go back to ANY point in my life... REGARDLESS!

So, what do I miss about being single? NOT A BLOODY THING!

...and as a witness to those who make the stupid assumption that there WAS something to miss, if I became a bachelor at this stage in life through a tragedy (GOD FORBID) or the like, I would become a hermit.

About the only benefit I see to being single at my age and at this time is the ability to sleep sprawled all over the bed...

Other than that, you can keep the bachelor life, thank you very much!

Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Time with Sue...

Blog yer Blessings

It's always a bit sad when the little one goes away for a while... as she's a "stepling" to me, it's a fact of life to deal with.

Her dad (Sue's ex) is a very nice fellow (who we all get along with very well... Sue and his break-up was amicable...) and he's off with her to a cottage for a week with other friends and family.

On the bright side, it does give Sue and I a little time to ourselves... a vacation of sorts from being parental... which is very nice, if a little lonely at times.

Above is a winter picture, sure, and it's VERY hot right now... but it's currently the best images of the boys I have... this will undoubtedly change considering the amount of photos we take of them...

Still, Saturday was a great day as it was truly a "Sue" day... after taking Frick and Frack for a nice walk that brushed by a favourite park of ours, we travelled to the Royal Ontario Museum where we got to do the "adult visit" thing of not rushing to the more "exciting bits" for the kid and taking our time to enjoy and absorb the exhibits... and blow a TONNE of "pixels" on some great photos... I'd share some of them, but I'll leave that to the resident photographer here which really is Sue.

After that, we strolled through the University of Toronto's downtown campus and then off to my favourite "Fish and Chips" shop in Toronto, Harbord Fish and Chips which has been around for a DONKEY'S years (and then some) because Sue, believe it or not, despite the place honestly being honestly my favourite, had yet to "sample" the food there... (It's not exactly convenient for us to get to.) The fish was excellent as always and the portions are BEYOND generous! (Neither of us finished...)

We brought the food home and enjoyed our meal, went through our images of the museum, checked the online stuff, watched an old movie on DVD (Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward)... and just been relaxed and enjoyed each other's company...

They say there's a "honeymoon phase" which we, as a couple, were supposed to have passed by now... this doesn't seem to be the case... I'm still SO in love with Sue it's kinda sickening to some people... until they find out we're whacky and kinda cynical ourselves about such things.

The most oft stated address to each other is, Y'know what? I love you! to which the other responds with, Well, that's good because I love you too... and if it was only one of us in love with the other, it would be kind of icky considering the amount of time we spend together. I think it would be considered stalking and possibly confinement.

I can't rightly say I've known anyone who's company I've enjoyed more...

On Thursday, I blogged about The Pogues... who most people know through their "Christmas song" called Fairytale of New York which is really an awful song about a terribly dysfunctional couple... a drunk and a bitter wife or girlfriend of said drunk... hey, the lyrics start with the words It was Christmas eve, babe... in the drunk tank. An old man said to me, wont see another one...

None the less, and why I'm bringing this up... in the last stanzas of the song are the lines, starting with our female singer... You took my dreams from me, When I first found you... then the male singer replies... I kept them with me, babe. I put them with my own. Can't make it all alone... I've built my dreams around you.

Well, I can sorta relate... save one fact... it never seemed to be about her dreams or my dreams... but our dreams. We took both each other's dreams... and put them with our own... and we ARE building our world with them together. (This is the benefit of having extremely similar interests and hobbies as well as a GOOD strong friendship for a basis of the relationship.)

...and no, I've never been in a drunk tank.

...I sincerely doubt Sue has either... but I can't say for 100% certain...

:)

...moving on...

To get to my point, and I've blogged that Sue's a blessing before and why, but this weeks blessing is a personal one... it's all about My Blessing of Spending Time With My Sue.

I don't think I ever stopped smiling yesterday... and what more can anyone ask for. That, my dear readers, is a HUGE blessing.

Remember, this is a woman who, although looking into the paranormal BEFORE we got together so we can't count that, is now hoping to have a huge, old, dusty, green double-decker bus in her future... think about that! How many fellas reading this could say their significant other would support this dream, let alone ADOPT it!?!

Sue's the best. Period!

My Disclosure Policy For Sponsored Posts

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
