The Dozen Blogging Commandments...

So, there I was... on top of an office tower, having a chat with this tree... when all of a sudden, the Great God of The Internet and, therefore, the Blogsphere, gave me these DOZEN "commandments" that they hope all blogger will follow. It's amazing really... the Great God of the Internet looks like the dumpy fellow that plays the "PC" in the new Macinsloth commercials...

Still, take these as thy will... and FEEL FREE to reproduce them ANYWHERE!!!

He looks familiar...

i: Thou shalt, under penalty of having your genitals removed with a rusty pair of vice-grips, have auto-play music on thy blog. Thou MUST givest us a CHOICE to play or not to play.

ii: Thou shalt, under penalty of WORSE than having your genitals removed with a rusty pair of vice-grips, have auto-play VIDEOS on thy blog. As above, PLAY or NOT TO PLAY must be an option.

iii: Thou shalt not use ridiculous g33k s934k. U r not txtng ur frndz. U r not l00king 2 l33t. U simply l00k lyk a n1tw1t. (U R One-D-Ten-T there, d00d! It iz teh sux0rz!)

iv: Thou shalt try to find thyne inner thesaurus... although certain words are fine words, thou should not useth them fifteen times to describe a newborn puppy. (Yellow Dog Granny is exempt from this commandment.)

v: Thou shalt remember that when thou uses the "FONT" tag, that thyne tag shall only work if thyne audience's computer has thy font installed locally... and whereas thou might have it, others may not and it looks dumb.

vi: Thou shalt not steal... thou shalt at least attempt to ask for permission to republish information and thou SHALL give credit when it's due REGARDLESS.

vi (part deux): Addendum to above: It is good to even credit thyne inspiration if thou was inspired by another. Link-backs and mentions make happy 'Netizens in the blogsphere.

vii: Thou shalt avoid huge, long-loading graphics. Not all thyne readers have a fibre-optic T-3 connection at home.

viii: Thou shalt remember that not all in the blogsphere watches the same television programs, listens to the same music, lives in the same area, or even has any of the same frame of reference. Thou shalt try to be as clear as possible in thyne information.

ix: If thou needest to comment and act as the grammar or spelling police, remember, to many, they do not see thy intrusion as a "good thing" so be tactful or consider not posting at all.

x: The people are happy to see pictures of thyne pets and thyne children... but all things in moderation... seven-hundred images on the same page doth not a happy surfer make. We can know thou art a proud parent and/or pet owner without too much overkill.

xi: Although thou hast great wisdom in things that are political, but we would like it if thou tempered your hatred for those who do not share thyne brilliance in logic and stance. It is a big turn off to hear who should "die" because thou thinkest them to be against thyne country because they are of a different political stripe despite being fellow countrymen. Dost thou TRULY believe that Democrats or Republicans REALLY hate America... or dost thou, in hind sight, thinkest that possibly they simply haveth a differing view?

xii: Thou should temper thyne money-making on thy blog. Where'st most, though not all, do not mind scrolling past one "paid ad" per two posts, more than this becomes like watching an infomercial that we do not like. Thou should always make thyne blog entertaining, interesting, and/or informative or thou shalt not have readers.

I do hope no one of a very religious nature takes offence to this post... although there is truth to these commandments, it was not written with intent to upset or offend.

I know, I've kinda done this before... but perhaps in this format, it might reach those few that ignored my other post...

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

RLH 3

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

Making The Right Decision

No one can really ever accuse me of being indecisive, usually I weigh the pros, and the cons of any one question, and then make a firm commitment towards a course of action. Sometimes it works out in my favour, and other times it does not. That is life I suppose.

When it comes to very serious decisions though, I do believe that obtaining as much information as possible is the key to finding the right course of action, and therefore make the right choice or decision.

Substance abuse of any sort is a serious issue, quite prevalent, and one where a decision to seek help or not must never be made lightly. On the one hand a person could choose to suffer needlessly causing pain, and pain to those around them, or admit there may be a problem, learn about what treatment options are available, and choose to seek a Drug Rehabilitation facility that has the best chance for working for them.

I'm not going to pretend it is easy, while I do not have first-hand experience as an addict, my father was an alcoholic, and I was with him when he sought help, and succeeded in the battle with his own inner demons.

If you or someone you know has a substance abuse problem click on this link for the Drug Rehabilitation Network their expert staff, and information on the site can assist you in making the right decisions in getting help.

The best kind of decisions are ultimately those that help ourselves, and those around us in my opinion, and the Drug Rehabilitation Network can help you to get on the path of healthy, happy living.

Our thanks to our sponsor.

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
