Have you ever had something from your youth LEAP into your brain...

There I was Sunday (I know, two days ago... but I'm just blogging about it now...) minding my own business when THIS leapt into my cranium out of nowhere... no trigger... just WHAMMO... and when you see it, and I remind you I was born in 1967, if you recognize it, you'll be slightly amazed...

I have a pair of Levis,
They've really been around.
I've taken' 'em campin',
and I played 'em on the ground.
They've been with me to parties,
and they've climbed up a tree,
well they've been to school so often,
they're nearly smart as me.
Now after years and years of wearin' my Levis in and out,
I couldn't help a noticing the knee wore out.
So I sewed on a patch,
a flower here and there,
and they looked so good again,
I could take 'em anywhere.
Now I'm wearin' them as cut offs,
and flyin' through the air.
Now I really think it's time that I bought another pair.

You can live in Levis

This is from a commercial way back in the 1970's I believe... meaning I was under thirteen at least when I heard it last.

Come to think about it, considering WHEN I believe it was made, it very well COULD be the first "rap" ever thrown out to the masses by anyone!

Oh, but my mental abilities to retain over-run commercial nonsense ends not there!

Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun... YEAH!

You deserve a break today... so get out and get away... to McDonalds.

...and slightly less commercial, and for the Canadian readers only (I think)...

We're three sad souls, oh me of my.
No brain, no heart, he's much too shy.
Oh never mind you three.
Here's the wizard as you can see.
He'll fix you one two three in that funny land,
called the World of Oz.

Oh the world of Oz is a funny, funny place,
where every one has a funny, funny face.
All the streets are paved with gold...
and no one ever gets old,
in that funny land,
called the World of Oz.

...and if you can remember The New Adventures of Pinochio with a "Cricket" who sounded like he smoked seventeen packs of no-filter Camels every hour, then you SHOULD know all of the above...

...which to me is proof positive...

Thirty year-old brain cells DO NOT DIE.

...and I'm not so sure that's a good thing... considering some of the things I forget.

Want To Hear Some Good Gossip?

I was surfing around this fun new site that has all the latest juicy tidbits of hollywood gossip, and thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce our celeb chatter loving readers to it. :D

Like I said above Celebrity Gossip is FUN! The site not only dishes up the latest in news, but allows the users of the site to vote on each item. You can also leave your own two cents worth via a comment.

To sign up for an account at Celebrity Gossip is absolutely free, and very easy to do. Once you are hooked up with your account you can then check out the latest or use their search to find other bits of info that you are interested in. B)

The site is also a really good way to find out if there is any truth to certain celeb rumours or not.

Go check it out! :D

Ask... the worst anyone can say is no.

See the title above?

These are the words of my mother... who always reminded me of this truth.

What's odd is I heard actress Kirsty Alley say something similar... Ask! If you never ask, you'll never get!

This is the impetus of this blog... I'm asking for help... if I don't, it's a guarantee we'll never succeed...

...but that's not what this post is about...

There is a GREAT hoo-haw over copyrighted material online... using music, images, and the lot... and I agree... it is wrong to "use" something without payment... and/or permission.

Today, on the initial pages of this blog, you'll notice TWO songs... both "studio production" tunes as well.

For the record, for both, I did something whacky...

I asked.

Now, I own BOTH CDs these tunes are from, but I e-mailed their respective publishers, explained that this was NOT a "for profit" site devoted to music downloads or the like... I even explained what we are doing here.

I got the e-mail addresses off their corporate sites, sent an e-mail to any executive or the like who I could find, and prayed for a positive response.

To be fair, one of them answered within three days... one of them took almost three weeks... but they both simply requested "credit" and "thanks" and the deal was done.

Now, granted, the two tunes are not "Top Twenty" songs and a little exposure is probably a good thing as it might spur sales of CDs or tracks... and I have to admit, I've asked for use of a total of seven songs at various times... and only received THREE permissions... and four rejections... and two of the three "okays" came with verbiage that HAD to be posted with the songs... and long "private" missives about use, issues, whatnots, howzits... and a caveat that they can request removal at any time and I must abide by it... and I can NEVER try to "sell"(trade or otherwise use in a commercial sense beyond posting them here) the tracks... and I'm very cool with all that to be able to share here...

...but three out of four positive responses? That ain't bad!

My point? If you want to use something, ASK! It doesn't hurt... the worst anyone can really say is "no"... and you might be surprised at the response... I know I was over the moon for the two you see today... especially the one embedded in the post below.

Anyway, I guess I'm excited because with this new "approval", albeit just for the posting of a song for a few days, made me once again realise that the whole concept of this blog and it's related sites might be okay... and maybe, by asking, we might just get.

...and that would mean the world to all of us here.

The Drug Rehabilitation Network

Having had a parent who suffered a substance abuse problem (my father was an alcoholic) I understand why a lot of people are squeamish about openly discussing drug, and alcohol related issues either in regards to themselves or a loved one. Although I understand it, I have personally never shied away from being candid, and open with the subject.

My Dad battled his demons for years until finally being admitted into a Drug Rehabilitation facility. And because he had the courage to admit he had a problem, and sought the appropriate help the last years of his life were proudly spent clean, and sober.

There is help for people available online through The Drug Rehabilitation Network . If you or someone you know is suffering with a drug and/or alcohol addiction, they can put you in touch with the right treatment plan available to you. They have many articles of interest on addiction that you can read through, and because the do not charge money to the rehabilitation facilities they list they will give you an honest assessment of the treatment being offered.

The site is a powerhouse online resource, and I was impressed by the quality of the information presented there when I surfed through their pages. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone who is in need of further information on all addiction related issues.

Cycling On The Beach

Here in Toronto we have some fantastic cycling trails along our northern Lake Ontario beaches. These board walks suitable for cycling, roller blading etc stretch out for miles, and they make for a fun, and relaxing way to spend the day. Pleasure cycling is one of our fave ways to work on getting in shape, and it is an eco-friendly way to get around.

XYZbikes.com is a company based out of California that manufactures, and sells to the general public beach cruisers, that are perfect for the pleasure cyclist. These bikes are lightweight and easy to assemble meaning they are great to load into an RV or even a bus as well.

These bikes are priced to sell (they are not expensive at all), and you can have a look at what the company is offering by visiting their bicycle online catalogue. My own fave from their catalogue is this classic blue beach cruiser that looks sturdy, but fun too!

If you are a cycling enthusiast you might want to check out their biking blog, which I was reading through earlier this morning. There are some good entries in there that are well worth the read.

Go have a look at the beach cruisers, and if you are interested in possibly purchasing one there is an FAQ on the site that will give you all the information you need on how to do so, plus shipping (they will ship to certain European countries).

My Disclosure Policy For Sponsored Posts

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
