List-er-ino Friday - Small Pleasures...

Everyone has their "moments"... little things that really just give you a sense of satisfaction and happiness... and I once tried to get people to share theirs here on the blog, but failed... so here's my list of of a dozen tiny pleasures that I love and make me feel really good in an odd, small sense... My "Simple Joys"...

#1: Being the first one at the bus stop to say, "The bus is coming."

#2: Looking into your pockets and finding a little money... more than the usual change, but not an astounding sum... just enough to be a pleasant surprise.

#3: An outside-evening walk and the smell of a "wood fire" from either a campsite or a fireplace.

#4: Being bored, turning on the television set and accidentally finding out a movie or show you really like is on.

#5: Making perfect popcorn... few unpopped kernels, no burnt bits... just perfect.

#6: Going to a restaurant and lucking out in getting a favourite table without requesting it.

#7: Having an unexpected comment on your blog from a blogger you like, but have never commented on their blog yourself.

#8: Going to a yard sale or used book store and finding a book on a topic you really, really love.

#9: As per the above, finding the book was a gift originally and was inscribed to the original owner with a lovely or interesting note.

#10: Having a stranger recognise you in a "positive" way from something your have done that you are proud of.

#11: Being smiled at by a "comely lass". (I know, I'm married... and HAPPILY so... but it's still nice to be admired!)

#12: (For me alone, probably...) Unexpectedly seeing an old double-decker bus running a road in Toronto.

Online Cell Phone Accessory Shop

I had the opportunity to check out the newly revamped Wirefly cell phone accessory pages earlier this morning, and thought I'd pass along to you dear readers the scoop on some of their hot deals on RAZR accessories.

If you haven't already checked out their site, it's really easy to use, and if you have visited them before you may want to see the improvements they've made to the over all look, and design of the site. Website design aside, the real scoop is that they are having a grand opening sale to coincide with their relaunching.

One of the accessories they've got listed that caught my eye was the Jabra BT350 Bluetooth Headset because a good quality headset is something I just can't live without! This item they've got on sale for 1/2 price!

You might also want to check out this Wireless Signal Extender to be honest this is the first I've personally heard of such a device, but I can see how handy it will be for some users!

There are too many good deals on right now for me to list individually, but if I've whet your appetite for a good bargain then just surf on over to the site using any of the links I've provided for you above. Definitely worth checking out!

Our thanks to our sponsors!

Not Making it To Wordless Wednesday...

Here's some photos that I was going to toss on our "Wordless Wednesday" posts... but nah... I've got MANY others, and these ones just aren't making the cut... because I got too many to use as it stands!

Now, ALMOST ALL the buses below are not red... I get a lot of people asking me about our "Old Green Bus" as it's from London and it's green... well...

London Transport "City Buses" are indeed red, but the "country buses" (those going to the suburbs) were (and still occasionally are) green... Now, the green buses still did (do) come into the city core, but they went further afield then their red counterparts... so now you know. (If you didn't already...)

So, without further adieu, allow me to share the pics!

Play Bus

More popular in the UK than in North America, there seem to be a few "play buses" rolling about... buses turned into rolling playrooms for kids. Above is one getting some final touches on it's paint job... I'm kinda surprised that I haven't seen any "play buses" in North America... seems like a great idea for kids parties... and no, sadly, our bus really won't be used for that purpose... save our eleven year-old's friends... To operate a bus as a business would take mucho denero outlay... and it's not part of our plans for the Old Green Bus.

Stripes!

Now I know some people find stripes nice... even slimming... but the above just doesn't do it for me.

Tour Bus Fiesta!

Now the above is a very jaunty tour bus... very new, very modern, and quite festive! Looks more like an "adult play bus"! ...wait, that could be misconstrued... an "adult party bus"! ...well, that too could be misconstrued... let's just say it looks very festive!

Standard RM made up to look like...

It looks like "The Knight Bus" from Harry Potter, doesn't it? Well, it's just a standard London Transport Routemaster done up as an advertisement... very cool still though, eh? (For those interested, the "Knight Bus" in the movie was a "chopped/souped up" Regent III bus... not a Routemaster.)

Whee!

...and not just Harry Potter advertises using a whole bus! The above one looks very interesting and love the "windows" of the buildings/bus...

Yankee Doodle Double Decker

...and for our American friends, here's a patriotic bus showing itself off... I think I may have another here...

Yankee Doodle Double Decker

Yup!

Local Bus to Us!

...and lastly, a more local bus to us... Brampton is near Toronto and has been running double-deckers for some time... but look carefully at this picture... the passenger in the upper-right window... is The Truth in Brampton and is The Truth riding in a double-decker??? Apparently, they are heading to Blackpool... and I don't mean the one in England! This has to be one of Sue's favourite bus photos, no doubt!

Thanks to British Buses Abroad in North America, Bus Photo UK, The Bristol Commercial Vehicles Enthusiasts, and The Routemaster Golden Jubilee Page for the images above.

My Disclosure Policy For Sponsored Posts

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
