Okay, back to work...

I tell you, it's been rough. I've REALLY, REALLY wanted to get more multi-media going, work harder at finding "catches" to get more traffic to the blog... do what I know it takes to get more readers and more help and eventually, by the grace of God, make the family dream come true.

I know that since I'm not willing to post nude pictures of myself... and knowing that if I did, I might get a lot of money to STOP posting nude pictures of myself... I need to get the name/blog/URL/dream out there... to get the readers to either find our "White Knight(s)" or to find the help we need... but every time I sit down to do anything that may require a little silence and perhaps more than fifteen minutes uninterrupted work, I'll be danged if the "life" thing doesn't keep getting in the way.

It really makes me wonder how some people do it... how do they produce inventions, artwork, or anything if they have family and pets?

This ISN'T to say I don't want my family or pets... FAR FROM IT... it's just how does one managed to burn that candle on one end, let alone both?

I still have a learning curve to overcome too... as much as, indeed, my career is in high-tech, it has NOT been in media presentation and creation... in fact, due to the corporate nature of my longest job, it's been on suppressing the abilities of others to enjoy media playing on their computers! (Not a good thing in an office environment for the masses...)

So, how to/when to knuckle down and start?

Heck, aside from that, I have a feeling that should a major news agency even do a half-piece on this dream, it would have a MUCH stronger chance at "getting over" and succeeding... but how to get them to notice us?

Our press releases (two of which done by budding publicists) have failed... despite the large readership of this here blog, we've gone unnoticed... and I have a feeling I could purchase a megaphone, stand on the second or third tallest building in the city and SCREAM about this blog and our dream... and we'd still not make any headway... save a headline... Loon stands on roof of TD Centre/First Canadian Place and Screams - Torontonians Indifferent

Realistically, a "YouTube" video or a fun-flash thingy would go much further...

...but in my perfect world, I'd have both... good press and something snazzy for the peeps to look at.

Time is SO not on our side...

I 'spose I have some chances this week in the evening to TRY and work on things... provided dogs aren't freaking out, the building is quiet, a kid goes to bed without hassle, and all is quiet in the world...

...but man, that seems like such a pipe dream.

So a PLEA...

HEY MEDIA-TYPES!!! C'mon now, you need a "puff piece" for your newscast, don't you? You need a good story to take up space? Sure, you COULD go with a water-skiing squirrel or perhaps a seventy-year-old paper boy, but how about the dream of a whacky family? Bonus is, the two adults are paranormal investigators of some note...? C'mon, what's NOT to love!?! We've been trying/hoping/dreaming of help for over a YEAR! We've written thousands of pages of original text! We've bled into this thing... NOTICE US! After all, with your help, we could see our dream come true! So c'mon! Give us a chance! Write about us! Please...?

Well, if that doesn't help... I still have been playing the lottery and something's weird in Canada...

The "big one" (Lotto 6/49) has been HUGE the last few draws... $30million, then $35million, then $37million... now $40million!

What's odd is that there HAVE been winners.

I thought the "jackpots" had to accumulate?

Well, we didn't win previously (obviously) but we'll try again on Wednesday for the forty-million!

...oh, and why didn't we win previously? Well, we KNEW other people were playing... and we liked them so ALTHOUGH we WERE going to play the winning numbers, we "threw the game", so to speak... Yup, we INTENTIONALLY let them win!, if any of them are reading this and would care to maybe throw $25k (Canadian... it's $20k USD to do it... but the Canadian dollar is still a little weaker than the US "greenback" so we need a little extra in Canadian funds...) at us to make the dream come true as a gift for us not only throwing the game, but indeed, ROOTING for you to win, we'd be very grateful! Who knows, perhaps we'll do the same Wednesday if we feel so inclined... and then the winner there can consider the same thing!

Do you think if any of the winners mentioned above read this it would work...?

Well, it was worth a try!

Well, no promises on when I'll have the movies and/or Shockwave thingies will be ready... but I'm gonna try...

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

A friend of mine has just (within the last three months got a business charity up and going ).

He started with printed leaflets at a local market - which were picked up by local paper - then at other markets the idea was picked up by other local papers - then by local radio then by local TV. It has now been picked up on the BBC locally and he is now getting offered funding and sponsorship.

It might be worth thinking about participation in local events and handing our flyers etc, It might get you to the attention of local radio/ newspapers (although I can understand that this may not work quite the same in Canada as it does in the UK).

The other option is maybe approach a small local PR firm and ask them how to tackle it?

Hey MsDemmie... Good ideas... my only concern about "locally" though is bringing a little unwanted heat on a sort-of normal eleven year-old. Believe it or not, the evil stepfather in the newspaper or on TV is kinda cool... but in the local grocery store probably won't fly... but perhaps with a wee bit of modification... maybe try the downtown core here in the big T-Dot?

As for the publicist... we've been trying to get one (even a student or "apprentice") pro-bono... but no luck except for two press releases... perhaps I should look into the cost of hiring a professional... although to spend hundreds of dollars really isn't in our budget yet.

I'll put some thought into things... thanks for the input!

They have an 11 year old daughter as well - she follows the blog, shares it with her classmates and now the whole school is involved with the project.

He however is not the "evil stepfather" and you have a very valid point there - knowing the problems my ex caused me.

Hey MsDemmie... Well, we also have to take into account that the dream is 95% personal, 5% altruistic.

Let's face it... at it's core, "We want a bus!"

Secondary: "This bus meant a lot to us..."

Altruistically: "...and if we don't succeed, it probably will be scrapped or carved up beyond future restoration."

If it was a more publicly noble endeavour, I'm sure we'd still be catching some static about trying to raise money, but since this isn't completely based on altruism, it's a guarantee that it would be unwelcome attention for the kid.

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
