Blog Your Blessings Sundays: Emotions and Thoughts

Blog yer Blessings

Sometimes, a blessing can be a double-edged sword... and this is one of them.

I pride myself at being very open about a lot of things within my life... it's rare I'm suppressing much of anything save pain as that's one thing I don't like to share... but if I'm happy, everyone knows it... sadly, if I'm depressed or grumpy, I don't spare people from that either... at least, not well.

Yesterday, I learned of the passing of a person in the blogsphere... a mother of two, a daughter, and far too young to go at 33 years of age. I can't say I "knew" her... I had read her blog before... granted, if you see a "hit" from me, I read yours too... I'm not a "hit-and-run" kinda guy... I may not comment as often as I should, but I read...

...and like all bloggers, I came away feeling a little like I knew a bit of this person... their trials, tribulations, thoughts... and therefore, were a little closer than an absolute stranger... at least, in a semi-online secretive kinda way... as creepy as that sounds... but it isn't... I read, absorbed, thought about, and genuinely appreciated what was typed. It spurred discussion in my home... and that's never a bad thing.

She passed last Monday... and although I knew I was just an I.P. in the ol' hitlog, I still took a second to sign the online memorial guest book.

I felt weird about it as it's not like I was a "close personal friend" nor an acquaintance really, but I hope her significant other, her children, and her genuine friends see it as a "fellow blogger" saying I am thinking of her... and them... at this terrible and sad time.

In 99% of eulogies I've heard delivered, they often say that these times should not be sad, but happy memories of the lives lived.

I disagree... partly...

They should be sad... because a life is gone and that person... no person... can truly be "replaced". They are all special... and human nature is to mourn and grieve.

I'd be lying if I said as simply a "reader", I was truly grieving with all my heart, but I am saddened at the loss... and I am thinking of the family...

I wanted to get that out... but that's not the only thing one can share... and why I said "partly" to disagreeing with the people who deliver eulogies...

We all should share our happiness... REGARDLESS.

Realistically, if things are going well, shouldn't we try to spread that warmth and happiness? Shouldn't we do what we can to improve the moods and demeanour of all we come into contact with?

...and rare and precious are those who, in times of great sadness, can bring out the happiness in things.

My blessing... and I hope yours too... is feelings... Be they "out there for the world" or whatever, how marvellous is it to express our emotions and thoughts... and despite not knowing the fellow traveller in the blogsphere, I'm so grateful that I was, through this entry and through a quick jot in the memorial page, to express my sadness and thoughts to her family and friends... and I hope that this brings them a little bit of happiness to know that she did reach into the world... and although it may have been at "screens length", her efforts were seen and read...

Natalie Rose... I didn't know you... and you didn't know me... but I read... and I cared... and I will continue to care in my mind... and wherever you are, I hope that the "anonymous IP" in Canada is bringing you a little happiness... your words and thoughts got out there... just like a gentle touch.

What a sad story - so quick so fast - no chance at all.

The blessing however is a great one - we need to feel to live and be alive.

Happy BYB Sunday.

I felt moved to post this for you, Matthew. She would not want you to grieve. She is beyond pain now.

Remembered Joy

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...

I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

Hey Neo... Yes... it feels good... cathartic... to allow a moment or two of raw emotion to slip out.

Hi MsDemmie... A lot of people ASSUME, incorrectly in my eyes, that life should be nothing but "happy" and "smiling"... and no, I think we need to feel sad... it just shouldn't be constant, that's all... or even the majority of the time. I feel wonderful after getting out all the "bad" (if that's accurate) emotions.

Hello CyberCelt... I agree, and that wasn't my point... my point was that we need to "release" the sadness, and then work towards why you're sad... which is the happy part... if that makes sense. No one wants to be remembered only as tears, but I do believe we all realise that tears are part of the equation... and why suppress them?

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
