Wordless Wednesdays: Old Bill - A London Double-Decker "Conscripted" To Carry Troops at the Front During WWI.

Drawing of Old Bill
I wish I could properly credit this drawing, but it was sent to me and I honestly don't know who to give credit to... If you know, please use the "Comments" section of this entry to let me know... the "Peace Globe" is my own creation for this day when we're being requested to display one...and I do pray for peace in our times... I think that's why I chose the image... there are not greater times when peace is needed than in times of conflict.

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Remotely Access Your PC From Anywhere!

RemotePC is a service that provides computers users with the ability to safely, and securely remotely access their PC from anywhere that has an internet connection. A great service for those of us who are constantly on the go, as well as small, and larger businesses.

If you think that being able to remote access your own home or office PC would be a service that would make your life easier then check out the RemotePC website for all the specs, and functions that they provide. They offer a free 30 day trial with no limitations, and the prices quoted for this type of service starting at just $4.95 per month are very reasonable in my opinion.

I was very impressed with them after visiting their site!

Simple Truths...

I spent the evening yesterday catching up on blog reading... and that meant surfing around aimlessly for the most part hitting blogs that were linked to blogs that were linked to blogs...

As usual, I noticed something amongst a large portion of bloggers that I hope they read and take to heart...

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it untrue.

"Facts" are pretty much standard... a fact is something tangible... something you can assume (due to its nature) that is correct... Veritas vos liberabit.

"Differing opinion", "The wish to do things differently", and/or "Disagreement" with something doesn't mean the opposing view is wrong or untrue.

If I don't like something, it's not horrible and everyone should hate it to... and if I like something, it's not going to appeal to everyone.

It's up to the reader/person/individual to make a judgement on something based on the facts at hand... and it's wrong of me to say that because certain "facts" don't jive with my philosophy that they must be lies.

In fact, they have a word for people that assume "facts" and "truths" that question their philosophies or thoughts are obviously planted lies... they are called paranoid.

I give you a simple case...

You see me walking down the street. I'm drinking a soda (pop for our Canadian readers) that I stop and say, "Boy howdy! This is the BEST soft drink ever invented!"

This is an opinion... and it's only fact is that I like and approve of it.

Ergo: I'd be insane to assume that you will feel exactly the same.

Ergo: If you didn't agree with me, that doesn't make you a liar.

Ergo: For you to claim, as you decided you don't like that drink that, indeed, I'm dead wrong and in fact, it's the WORST drink ever conceived is also incorrect and based solely on your perspective.

There is no "right" truth... there is no "left" truth... there's no REAL shades of grey in truth... there's only TRUTH which is quantifiable and tangible... and not capable of being "spun"... unless you believe propaganda is "truth".

Okay, there CAN be truth WITHIN propaganda, but I doubt anyone on any side would say it's "clear" truth... without taint...

...moving on...

You wanna convince me, present FACTS from multiple, unbiased sources. Show me tangible evidence.

Don't spew nonsense you heard from "here" or "there" through an editorial piece... or a "blogger" or "writer" you like who really "isn't there" and has no "hands on" experience with a subject... and is only toeing a "party line" on something.

The one thing most truly evil people fear is a population that can learn and think for itself and make decisions based on evidence and truth... not spin.

So, consider this yet another beg from the bus people... and not the type of begging you expect from us...

In any matter be it social, political, scientific, or cultural... take the time to study BOTH sides of an equation and look at all possibilities and present FACTS and EVIDENCE... and be your own worst critic 'cuz that way, you'll be prepared if someone questions your "authority" on a subject.

Quick for example... I do read/study/understand the "so-called sceptics" point of view on the paranormal... and often look into what they're saying, doing, writing, and generally thinking... this does not mean I subscribe to their point of view, but I need to understand it... because of a very important truth... they might be right and I could be wrong... and I must understand that if they bring a "fact" or "evidence" to the table, I should re-examine my thought process on things... and if they bring opinion to the table masquerading as "fact", I must be prepared to counter it with REAL truths... not opinions.

In my opinion, if the world truly took the time to study all sides of any argument, ten will get you twenty that things would not be as messed up as they are.

So, in conclusion, DON'T PREACH TO ME and DON'T SPOUT RHETORIC... teach me and show me proof, evidence, and that most rare and beautiful thing, truth.

...and if you don't know enough about something, you have two options... learn more about it... or stay quiet...

...because I'm noticing what I think are truly good people who, because of their "beliefs" in things are ignoring Samuel Clemmen's sage advice...

It's better to be silent and thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

'Nuff said!

Little Sue Got A Credit Card

For non-regular readers or first timers to this blog, "Little Sue" is the eldest kiddo who is now twenty. And yes, a few weeks ago "Little Sue" proudly reached into her wallet, and pulled out her brand-spanking new plastic card announcing to both Matthew, and I how awesome she thought it was.

Ugh!

Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I hate credit cards, I have one, and most people that we know do. Heck, they've even got credit cards with cash back available to consumers now that are quite handy when you find yourself in need of a quickie financial fix.

However, I also know a thing or two about impulse shopping, and had to learn the hard way how not to overspend, and it took me a long time to repair the bad credit I endured from doing just that with my credit cards when I was in my twenties.

I did advise "Little Sue" to look into getting a 0% Credit Card when applying for, and comparing different types of cards. And at least in that she did appear to listen to Mama's advice.

I would also advise any of our readers here that are mired down in credit card debt (believe me I understand your pain) to look seriously into 0% Balance Transfers that are being offered by many of the major companies now, and get yourselves a better rate.

I'll follow up in a few more weeks, and let you know how "Little Sue" is doing, if she has been smart with the dreaded card or if she walks in with a brand new treadmill (something I know she has been eyeing).

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
