I WANT TO COME IN SECOND!!!

UPDATE! Now we need to come in first place... they "lowered" the prizes and second prize is now $10k... and first prize is $25k... and there is some question as to the authenticity of the competition... I'm going to give it one week (June 16th) and if things don't come a little more clear AND we don't make a decent move towards the top voted blogs, we're gonna call it quits on this...

I ain't gonna lie to you all, it does seem a little weird...

Homework is being done and we'll see if we continue this line towards the quest...

Note the upper-right-hand bit of the blog... near the top of the sidebar...

Blogging to Fame

Now, I gotta be honest... this contest SEEMS to good to be true... $100,000.00 for "first place"?

Awards?

Now, I'm a cynic by nature... a true "sceptic" in that I doubt (but don't deny without evidence!) so I'm willing to give it a shot.

Here's the kicker... SECOND prize is $25,000.00

That's a magic number... $25k... $5k more than we need for the dream to come true...

So, here's a weird one...

PLEASE VOTE FOR ME TO BE SECOND BEST!

That's right, I want to be #2!

What's great about that is I can support anyone goin' for the gold... 'cuz all we want is the silver!

OH HOW CANADIAN! Shootin' to be just behind the winner!

...but it's true...

Help us get to SECOND PLACE!

Click on the button and VOTE FOR US!

...and if you're a blogger, consider signing up...

...and we hope that we can claim in the future...

WE'RE SECOND BEST! WE'RE SECOND BEST!

(...and then this blog changes to us getting/fixing the bus!)

Yup, coming in second would ROCK and make us unbelievably happy!

Of course, if this doesn't pan out... there's always...

Think it'll work?

Hottest New Look In Women's Tennis

Are you a fan of women's tennis? If so, have you noticed that womens tennis apparel over the years have evolved into a hot fashion item? It's true, every year womens tennis stars are looking way better in some really fun styles, that are obviously completely wearable on or off the court. I remember the more utilitarian looks of the 70's and and compared with today, all I can say is wow!

It's no secret that WTA star Maria Kirilenko is now sporting Adidas apparel that has been designed by one of the hottest in talented fashion designers, Stella McCartney herself! Have a look at some of these hot tennis dresses, and I think you'll agree with me, when I say that it looks like Adidas is winning the womens tennis, fashion battle royale, by teaming up with Ms McCartney! BlogTalkers: Can't it be longer than a year?

BlogTalkers!

This week's question/request...

If you had to spend one year living alone in a remote cabin, what would you spend your time doing? (And let’s assume there is no access to Internet)

I have a feeling my answer to this one is not exactly going to be terribly original...

This is effectively the infamous "desert island" question...

Well, since no limits have been put on OTHER things I can bring (save an ISP connection,) I'm going to bring the following...

  • My laptop for writing. (I hate pens and paper... because of poor penmanship.)
  • A radio (any sort provided I can reach news in English or French. I'd almost prefer French to improve my skills in that language...)
  • A camera.

...and most importantly...

  • LOADS OF BOOKS!

In fact, I'd go out of my way to grab every book I "never got around to" or felt was a little "much" to read... save perhaps Proust as it would occupy the solid year no doubt... and I'd want to be as productive as possible.

Now, of course, the question might ALSO be interpreted as being alone as the authors of this blog... meaning Sue and myself... which would then lead to other things... (nudge-nudge-wink-wink)...

That's right... DAYS and DAYS of great conversation, philosophical discussion, and probably some of the world's greatest ideas and concepts being put forward after 365 days by two really intellectual people! Heck, our ideas could bring about peace in the Middle East!

So, that's what I'd do for a year up in our log cabin...

Of course, depending on the location, I'd also bring...

...I think anyone who's been in a secluded cabin or "in the woods of some sort" knows what I mean there!

Free Online Backup

Making certain your data is backed up is very important, trust me I have in my early days of computer use learned this fact the hard way. It's vital for businesses to backup their data, but it is equally important in my opinion for everyone to make sure their files like photos, school papers, books etc are safe, and secure.

Did you know that idrive.com offers free Online Backup up to 2GB without any further obligations? How cool is that! Of course you can always upgrade to their PRO plan suitable for businesses that gives you unlimited storage space for a small fee of $4.95 per month.

The service is safe, and secure, and completely automated so you never have to worry about losing your important data. Why not try it out, again the basic plan is absolutely free!

Meade MySKY Looks Cool!

When I was a little kid I participated in a lot of backyard astronomy with my Dad. I used to love setting up our old telescope with him, or grabbing the binos, and just staring out into the heavens. No one can gaze into a clear night sky, and at some point not come away with a feeling of awe at the magnitude of what is our Universe.

The term "we have come a long way" is completely apt in regards to the latest gadgets, and technologies available to the backyard astronomer today. I was just checking out meade my sky, and was completely blown away at it's capabilities! In fact I want one! MySKY is an easy to use, multimedia gadget that works with a computerized telescope. You simply point, and shoot! Go check it out by clicking on the link.

OpticsPlanet.com is offering MySky at an amazing price - lowest price guaranteed along with other astronomy related items like spotting scopes, and binoculars.

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
