There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.

So sayeth Oscar Wilde...

Big Whoopsie

I think we've all Googled our names... or our websites... or blogs... just to see where we "come up" and how.

Some, like Sue, are wondering how they're doing in a Google Page Rank... most are just curious.

Me... it's a little bit from "Column A" and a little bit from "Column B"...

I'm pleased to note that more than a few websites and blogs talk about the ol' "Bus Blog" around the web... and pretty much all the "Google Hits" I've found (save three) are positive to our little quest which is genuinely nice... I think MOST people have realised (save three people) that what the blog and pages here are all about are pretty harmless and, in honesty, not truly "cyber begging" to pay off a credit card, a bizarre "cash grab", or other weirdness...

...but this blog and it's related sites are just an "attempt"... a thing that might touch someone who can help us make our one strange dream come true.

Initially, and still from some corners, we get people assuming that we are a little like the old Save Karyn site and deal... and there are SOME similarities...

Karyn had debts, we have debts.

Karyn asked for money to pay her debts, we actually aren't.

Karyn succeeded...

The "debts" bit should be explained to newbies to the site here...

SHORT VERSION: I had a very good, long term job, got laid off, took time off to heal some wounds, thought getting back into the career maze would be easy... whoops... during the "good times" we racked up about $8,000.00 worth of debt... being unemployed and family and needs coming first, we haven't REALLY paid down those debts. During the truly HARD times, we found the bus and it became a "focal point" in working through some very hard times as a family... Just towards the end of those hard times, we started this blog to try and save/own the bus... The hard times (employment and income wise) are now ALMOST at an end with me FINALLY getting back into my field et al... but our $8k worth of debts MUST come before a bus, regardless of how important it is to us as we need to have a good and proper home for our family and we need to clean up our credit rating from those pretty bad times... The blog and yes, the begging for help are still here because the bus' future is finite and clean-credit record for us is probably about a year and a half away... and if we aren't fast enough, it may be scrapped or "carved up"... and even without the worry of paying down debt, we don't have the money to execute a rescue in the foreseeable future... So we ARE asking for help (see the bottom of this post) to try and expedite the dream and to keep the bus safe.

THERE! (Hey! Regular readers! There's the handy-way to explain it, eh?)

Anyway, we are ONLY here online for "The Bus"... not for our debts or to buy a home... and I believe, FINALLY, people understand this which I'm really grateful for.

What's REALLY cool with the "Googling" is finding NOT ONE, but TWO bloggers that are threatening to set up a "Bus Blog" of their own. Both CALLED their possible new blogs this, but are talking about their own "dreams" that they need help with.

Now, I don't know about you, but HOW COOL would it be if this offering spurred similar blogs for people with similar aims... "I can't do it alone right now, please help me achieve a DREAM that means something to me and here's why..." and those blogs be CALLED (in the urban/online world,) "Bus Blogs"... all because of us here!

"Bus Blogs" may be seen as self-serving... non-altruistic... whatever... but in my eyes, we all have kooky dreams... some of us share them... some of us ask for help in obtaining them... the importance of them varies from point-to-point, person-to-person that learns about them...

If you read this post, you'll see why our dream is very important to us... but hey, even I realise that there are people who's dreams are to have regular meals... shelter... proper health care...

...but if we DON'T share these dreams and ASK for the help we need AND TAKE THE CHANCE of being called names, abused a little, and possibly "trolled", we will never know if we might have achieved them, right?

Oscar Wilde said a lot of things... including An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all.

Why not take that chance? Why not risk the slings and arrows of outraged internet denizens?

The reward, we hope, will be a dream come true and something to show our kids that humans WILL help each other and are generally kind and good hearted.

After all, even though it sounds a little negative, We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

...and ain't the stars grand?

Hey, if you're looking at 'em, might as well aim for 'em, right?

From Figure Four Online, the latest FREE "Bryan and Vinny Show"...

This sounds like it must have been the BEST MATCH EVER ALL TIME ALL MY LIFE...

Before I introduce you to this, the language used in the clip I'm about to link to is a LITTLE salty, so you've had fair warning, but if you can take it, Click here to hear that portion of the show that reviews this FANTASTIC contest...

The show was put on by the FINE, FINE folks of Chikara Pro Wrestling... home of the FABULOUS Ultra-Mantis Black and Hydra... but this match described, sadly, didn't feature either of those two grapplers...

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
