BlogTalkers: Little Matthew Homemaker!

BlogTalkers!

This week's question/request...

Who generally does the housework in your family? Do you say “Thank You” to your significant other when he/she does housework? Why or why not? Are you thanked when you do housework?

Little Matthew Homemaker

This one's an easy one... we share... although right now, with Sue currently home more than me, she does the lion's share... but a few years back, I was home more and I did the lion's share...

Still, there's NO DOUBT that I not only AM thankful for her help, I say it usually with a hug. In fact, yesterday Sue did a TONNE of work and after cleaning our bunny's cage, I gave her a hug and said "Thank You!" to which she said, "What for?" and I simply said it was for all her work... but let her know that the bunny cage was what I was really saying it for at the moment.

...then, I cooked supper for the household and she reciprocated the hug and the thanks.

Another example is I don't mind doing laundry at all... but I suck at folding clothes. Don't ask me why, people have TRIED to show me... literally holding my hands and taking me through the motions, but I just can't do it... and Sue, after watching me agreed... "You wash, I'll fold." is often the order of the day.

Lately, as I've been sick (I'm getting better, but still coughing and have little or no voice,) Sue's really stepped up... and I notice it... and I hope she knows I've noticed it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure she does as she acknowledged a few days back that she's "stepped up" as I have in the past when she's been ill.

I was primarily raised in a household of women... two older sisters and a mother... my father was an executive and often away from home. The concept of "traditional roles" when it comes to chores et al is lost on me... and always has been.

A prime example is cooking... since one of my "heroes" growing up was my Grandpere and he was a master chef at a prestigious hotel in Toronto (he cooked for the Queen, we were often reminded,) the pecking order of cooking was often my mother calling and asking for tips from my Grandpere. Ergo: Cooking was anyone who was capable's job.

I had a military "fixation" as a kid... and was a cadet (and now a re-enactor) and therefore ironing, stitching, and sewing were often my own handiwork.

I lived alone for YEARS... therefore scrubbing, washing, cleaning, vacuuming, and all that fun stuff is not alien to me.

In fact, Sue will probably tell you that housework comes more naturally to me then it does to her... that said, she's more than capable and also no stranger to it...

So, we share chores... one doing more than the other depending on schedules and health.

...and yes, we greatly appreciate each other.

I wonder... since Karen asked this, is she feeling a little unappreciated for something? :)

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

RLH 3

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

Good luck with your project! I'll see if my pal Bill Blunt will give it a mention on his blog. I can't promise anything, as you never know with Bill!

Kind Regards

Should we go back to concentrating on and letting folks know how things are going with our bus? (Kinda back to the good ol' days?)
