First off, let me explain the whacky "title" of the post today... if you read down to my "Blog Your Blessings" post, you'll see not only is it Easter Sunday (Happy Easter to All!), but it's this blog's first anniversary! Yup, one year ago I started this here blog... so I hope you'll indulge me and read down to the BYB post... 'cuz I'd like to thank you all...
This week's question/request...
What three main rules, standards, or morals do you live by?
What a GREAT question! (...and I know that Sue will be gearing up to write a novel on this one!)
For once, I may have a simple answer to one of these here questions/requests...
#1: Do not act out of anger. Do not act out with evil intent. Anger and violence are not just last resorts, but should be completely avoided when possible. All conflicts can usually be resolved without negative actions and that should be one's first goal. Positive measures vs. negative actions will always yield the best, and usually mutually beneficial results. Respect everyone... including those who seem like your worst enemy... because they may also become your greatest ally at a later date.
#2: Try to spend more time being happy than anything other emotion. Spread the smiles, laughter, and joy as you can. Be the antithesis of "misery loves company" and attempt to ensure your joy has lots of company.
#3: Never stop learning. To quote Epictitus, you must first... "part with self conceit. For it is impossible for any one to begin to learn what he thinks that he already knows." Always try to learn, teach, share, and continue to gain knowledge and insights. There are no limits to knowledge, so why limit yourself?
"The universe is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper." - Eden Phillpotts
As a addendum to #3 above, even if you feel someone doesn't have anything to teach you, they probably do... someone not wise in one area probably has much to offer in another... and when faced with someone who is filled with self-conceit and who's "lessons" are rather questionable, you can learn from their actions what not to do.
I am also fond of the old motto (albeit fictional) of the Knights of the Round Table... Adopt, Adapt, Improve meaning, in my eyes, take what you have and be grateful for it, work with it to your own needs, and if possible, make it better. This motto basically, in my eyes, allows one to appreciate what one has while still having enough ambition to make things better.
I enjoyed that... but the above is truly the way(s) I try to govern my life... I don't know if anyone found it helpful to read that, but if it did, I'm glad...
The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!
This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.
Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.
This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.
If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our tiny banner site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)
Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!
We thank you for your support!
Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...
See the "latest post" on the left here... I've decided to concentrate on other work so this blog is kinda done for me... THANKS kindly to my friends and regular readers... and as you'll note, I am still loitering in the blogsphere... and I'm still online... and I honestly haven't given up hope that we will get our dream bus one day! (We've just gotten REALLY quiet about it...)
