Give a Days Pay and Let Us Pimp Your Blog!

As regular readers know, I love to read the two freebie papers given out in the subway stations on my commute into work... The Metro and 24hrs...

William Adolphe Bouguereau
Above is titled "Charity" by William Adolphe Bouguereau

Today, both rags had an interesting story... and an idea that's not new, but something I've often thought was a good idea...

Toronto doctor, Dr. Jane Philpott, who lost her daughter to meningitis in West Africa, has started a campaign to convince everyone to give one day's pay to fighting the AIDS pandemic in Africa.

Dr. Philpott has said that her child's death is what spurred her to this when she realised the suffering and tragedy of the situation there.

It's a pretty simple concept, figure out what one day's worth of work is on a paycheque and donate that to a charity that's helping with this terrible disease.

This is a pretty honourable thing... and I appreciate it... but I wish that, instead of those who "can" doing this, I'd almost like to see a "day" given in the year that employers try to get employees involved in... preferably the middle of a month (when most people aren't too poor thanks to bills and life in general) and not around a time when most people desperately cling to their cash (like Christmas season or Summer vacations...)

On that day, payroll departments or whomever ask their employees which charity they'd like to give ONE DAY to... any of them...

Cancer Society? Heart and Stroke? Homelessness? Food Banks? Animal Shelters?

...heck, even Historical Boards, Libraries... anything!

Not to take away (AT ALL) from Dr. Philpott's cause (something I do strongly believe in), but can you imagine the overall good if everyone did that on one day...?

I guess what I'm saying is that I bet you'd have a HUGE response if it was a specific day for everyone... and it was "known" to be happening on 'X' date to allow for some quick revisions of budgets... and allowed everyone to choose their cause...

Deep down, I do believe that pretty much all humans are decent at heart and would work with this... and it could be an excellent way for every charity to have a little extra in their coffers...

Granted, can anyone else see the absolute nonsense that would ensue... the number of people that, regardless, would NOT welcome or take part... the number of charities that would be trying to be "put in the mix"...

...and even more sadly, the number of "questionable" charities that are out there that would be "making moves" to get money on that day.

Perhaps we need to start with Dr. Philpott's idea... and maybe, one day, work from there. She'll be getting my "day's pay" in mid-Novemeber... when, thanks to my illness, I'll be able to afford giving that day's pay to a worthy cause.

Egads! What gives??? I think this is the LONGEST we've ever gone without a "rent bid" via BlogExplosion!

I know BlogExplosion's server's have been a little flakey lately (up and down), but wow...

Surely, SOME nice blogger out there would like to see their blog pimped by Sue! Someone want's to see their thumbnail placed in the upper-righthand side of our dear double-decker bus blog???

C'mon, fellow bloggers! Click here and RENT THIS BLOG!

Sue's dying to pimp someone!

Update Oops! We have a renter! While I was typing the above, blammo! Sue posted the new one up! I expect her "pimping post" tomorrow! :)

Addendum: 13:26 EDT Mark my words... Sue has just finished writing an article for our paranormal websites and blog that kinda outs a "popular recent haunt" as... well... perhaps a new urban myth.

Ten'll get ya twenty, we're gonna get a LOT of heat for this... despite the article being 100% factual.

Curious? Well, the "rough draft" was published on the PSICAN Message Board... You have to be a member to read it, but if you're interested, it's worth it... Click here for a direct link. (Oh, sign-up to the board is FREE.)

The standard last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

This blog is here to help promote a dream that an entire family shares... that dream is to rescue an old London Double-Decker bus.

Please, if you have a few minutes, take some time to find out more about this bus and the kooky dream by clicking here.

This bus is VERY special to myself and the whole family, and any help any person can lend us would be most gratefully accepted.

If you or someone you know might be interested, there's our pixel ad site, HelpCoverTheBus.Com and a PayPal donation button (see the upper-right hand side of the blog) and, of course, a Cafe Press shop for T-Shirts and shtuff!
(...and who doesn't need some shtuff!)

Please help us make this dream a reality and save a piece of history!

We thank you for your support!

Please Note: We are also hoping for help from a public relations/marketing standpoint... If you might be able to assist OR know someone who might be willing to, please click here and read this entry...

Should we go back to concentrating on and letting folks know how things are going with our bus? (Kinda back to the good ol' days?)
