Canadian Media Suddenly Ghost-Crazy!
Okay, there must be something in the water...
As somewhat of a close-up observer of mainstream media interest in the paranormal, it's not at all unusual to see an major increase in levels of ghostly coverage around Halloween time (end of October), but here we are... end of August/beginning of September and there's quite a lot of interest... for no applicable reason.
First there was the front-page of the Sun a couple of Thursdays ago... with a cover story on the provincial legislature's ghosts... before that, the Sun also covered a "very haunted house" based on reports from a crime scene/bio-hazard clean-up crew (tasteless, but that's how it broke down...) which, a scant week and a half made it to TV and was covered admirably by Sue on the Paranormal Blog and myself here...
...and yesterday, in all of the weird places, we have mention of a "haunting" in the original Moosehead brewery in Newfoundland in a daily freebie mag here called 24hrs in their... get this... business section.
No, no... not for a "ghost tour"... here's part of the article...
The ghost of Cdn. breweries past
By CPThe old brick headquarters of Moosehead Brewery in downtown Saint John is said to be haunted by the restless spirit of a long-dead brewmaster.
The apparition has been spotted in the damp cellars of the Victorian-era building, hovering over the huge copper vats where the Oland family has brewed its beer for generations.
But Derek Oland, 66, Moosehead's chairman, is haunted by ghosts of a different sort these days.
In his office, where his ancestors toiled to create what is now the largest Canadian-owned brewery, Oland lives with the fading memory of a once-great industry that was populated by some of the most colourful characters from Canada's corporate past.
(Above with apologies to Sun Media...)
The article continues about the sale of Canadian breweries to foreign interests... so it's not really about a ghost, but I have to notice the "catch" of the article is "ghostly" in it's nature.
So what's with the "mainstream" ghostly stuff?
Usually, it's sparked by (as stated) Halloween... sometimes by a movie or popular television program... but this latest "batch" seems to be truly out of the ether... at least as far as I can tell.
Now, before I get launched at (as usual) for making this statement, four major news items in the mainstream media is unusual... but for some (like ourselves and possibly you, the reader,) the interest is constant... so please, remember, I am talking about the mainstream media here... not Art Bell, George Noory, Ian Punnet, Errol Bruce-Knapp, Sci-Fi Channel offerings, occasional documentaries, and the ceaseless noise from the thousands of websites out there... I'm talking "normal" news items that the masses who are not terribly interested in the topic read/watch/listen to.
I've often joked that miserably few journalists or media folk are interested in talking to us in February (yet, we're still doing the study then) and have even embarrassed one fellow announcing live, on the air on a TV program that he should consider having me on in February instead of Halloween as there is interest and we're still working the studies... I've never been invited back to that program... and I was NICE about it!
Either way, will the "ghostly interest" continue??? I suppose, like our efforts to own the old bus, time will tell...
The press release went up yesterday... and "The Crowd Went Mild."
Who knows though... and every little bit helps!
