Speaking of things in Texas... and other shtuff...

Allow me to introduce you to RLH 25... a "cousin" of our dear RLH 3...

Before... you can see, she was in a very bad way...

She was more-or-less rescued (although still not running) and used as a parade float... It's amazing what a little elbow grease and a lick of paint can do...

Granted, I'm sure the purist preservationists are having a right fit...

From what I'm to understand (and I admit, a little wishful thinking,) Regent Low Height 3 is not nearly in the rough shape as her cousin above was in... In fact, she "broke down" in Santa Rosa and has been there for a few years... perhaps her engine will be repairable... and (again) according to Mr. Bob Martin, she appears to be in good structural shape... even if she's being used as a garbage tip at the moment.

(See this post for details...)

The fellow who's been helping us with information about "The Magic Bus" (or BMMO 4111) also bought a bus "sight-unseen" and that one is his pride and joy of (apparently) a bit of a "fleet" of them now... and this bus of his I hope to have some information (and pictures!) of shortly and will share them is allowed!

I admit to still being a little stressed at RLH 3's current conditions and tentative storage... my fears are not really going away and I hope to rescue her soon.

I'm going to TRY and contact the fellow in Roswell and see if he might be willing to assist in the legal ownership department... I know I have no money right now... and not in the near future... but if he gives us ownership, it's one step... right?

Wish us luck... We are bringing nothing to the table, but perhaps he'll see the dream and want to help... who knows...

I was hoping to go with some money in hand (since I know there is a storage fee situation that needs to be resolved), but considering RLH 3's situation, as I've said before, I have to try ALL avenues...

Okay, those "Bloggers" that hate this blog because of it's (sometime) fixation??? Imagine living with me and the family... or just working with me...

Yesterday, a fellow from the office came up to me and said, "Hey, I think I just saw an open-top RM outside. It's red and near Union Station."

After saying this, he turned to me as said, and I quote... "Damnit! Before I met you, I wouldn't know about these things! I didn't know (expletive deleted) about these friggin' buses! Damnit, why do I know this stuff now?"

He was right... it was an open-top Routemaster... one of my favourites in the city here...

Open Top RM

(With apologies to Phil Groocock who just sent the above image through the BBNA mail group... Sorry, sir for using the image... it's just it's the best picture I've seen of this bus...)

Anyway, yup, it's RM 2209 now plying the streets of Toronto!

...sure, it's no RLH (and especially no RLH 3) but she's a beauty!

You see, slowly but surely, I'm twisting EVERYONE! Yes, soon YOU'LL be able to tell the difference between a Lodekka, a Routemaster, and a Regent! My evil plot is WORKING!!! Muahahahaha!

Oh, and again, if you're wondering... no, a Routemaster is not on my list... RLH 3 is PRIMO! RLH 39 would be a reasonable "second", and a Lodekka as a third option...

...but our (my wife's, my kid's, and my own) heart belongs to our RLH 3!

We gotta save that bus... please help us...

The usual last note on the old blog... PLEASE SUPPORT THE DREAM!

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
