One of those weird days...

If you already read this blog today, please scroll down to the "Addendum" I put up at 8:11pm EDT... If you're just coming to our blog, please read the whole thing to understand... Thanks!

First off I'd like to let everyone know (especially those East of Toronto) that the oppressive heat we had here has broken... It's a comfortable 25 degrees centigrade (77 degrees Fahrenheit) which beats the snot out of the 40 degree centigrade (104 Fahrenheit) we've suffered through the last few days... one good storm and we're out of the horrid heatwave... thank goodness!

So, to our friends in New York and "parts East", hang in there! The colder temps are coming!!!

Did you ever have one of those days... not a bad day... but you just KNEW instinctively that something good or bad was going to happen? There's just "something" about the environment or the way the world looks and feels that let's you know that something is "up"?

Fortune Teller

I'm currently having one of those days... and my gut is telling me that "good stuff" is coming... very good stuff.

I don't know what it is though... but it's coming... perhaps the bus is coming... perhaps a better job... perhaps some extra money... but something good is on the horizon.

Did I mention I'm a believer in luck...?

Good Luck!

Always being one to over-analyze things, I started thinking about this... when us humans have those moments... sometimes of dread... sometimes (like me today) of other things.

If I may, let me impart a weird-but-true story on you... that could very well be a "better fit" into our Paranormal Blog... but bear with me here...

It was Friday, December 6th, 1984... I was FINALLY on the "guest list" to go to my favourite after-hours night clubs in Toronto. A "friend" (better to say an acquaintance...) was DJing and put me and my buddies from high-school on the list. I was thrilled!

Better yet, the girl who I had a MASSIVE crush on would be there... and that was really good news.

Now, let me preface this with letting you know... I was a "death-punk"... a "blitz-kid"... whatever people called "goths" before "goth" was coined... THAT SAID, don't mock me on the next bit...

I got home from school that Friday, ate dinner with the folks, and proceeded to get myself ready to go out which was quite the "do" for a 17 year old of my ilk.

Hair was crimped, back-combed, teased, sprayed (repeat), make-up applied, all-black outfit put on... and at about 9pm, after several hours, I was ready to head out!

I walked out the front door of my home... stepped out onto the small front porch and...

Stopped dead, turned around, showered (washing off and out all the crud I'd put onto myself), and went to bed.

There was no feeling of "dread"... no "voice in my head" telling me to go back... It was just a decision... "I don't really want to go out tonight."

Trust me, nothing would give me more joy than to say SOMETHING more than just a "change of mind" happened... but that's not what it felt like.

I'd equate the feeling to the one most people get when you head to the fridge to "find something to eat" (usually when you're bored) and once there, decide nothing appeals to you and you return to whatever it was you were up to before you entered the kitchen.

Yeah, about that much "gravity".

I was in bed at about 10pm... when, at around 10:30pm, I heard my mother scream...

I raced into her room to see my dad lying on his back on the bed... he was making an odd "snorting" noise... he was dying of a sudden heart attack that led to him asperating.

He died that evening. (Oh, that's a link to the left... I didn't underline it for "gravity"...)

Now, had I gone to that club... had I left after the anticipation of friends, music, and general merriment, and after the process of "getting ready"... I would not have been home or around until (at the earliest) about 8am the following morning.

Instead, I was home when it started... I was at the hospital as it completed... I was with my mom... and I was "dressed down" without looking like a freak.

To this day, I cannot tell you what changed my mind... but I'm glad it happened...

Some say it was a "guardian angel", some a "guardian spirit"... I don't know...

One of the more "natural" answers that I've been given (and a definite possibility) is that although my father seemed 100% healthy that day and evening, somehow I was able to pick up on "something" (like the colour of his face) and in the back of my mind, I knew that he was "not well" and therefore I stayed behind. It wasn't a "conscious" decision, but an unconscious thing I picked up on...

Good answer... definitely less "paranormal" in it's nature... don't know if it's accurate... but one has to examine every possibility to find "the truth".

ANYWAY, I guess what I'm saying with this story is how most people have had a "moment" like this... something happens and they "feel" it and... voila!

The only thing in my story above is, I "felt" it... but not in any tangible way...

Horse Shoe

Well, today I've got this "lucky"/tangible feeling that things are going to be very good... happy... I dunno why, but I do.

Call me a whacko if you'd like... but it's the way I'm feeling.

GRANTED, remember that along these lines, RLH 3 (the bus we're trying to get) and ourselves share a lot of very odd synchronicities...

I won't re-spell them out here... if you're interested in the "weird connections" between us and our bus, click here to read about them... it's spooky in a way...

...and yeah, I would consider us the luckiest family in the world if we find a way to get that bus...

...but for today, all I can say is it feel like something very good is on the not-so-distant horizon.

Addendum: 20:11 EDT CURSES!

Well, my luck did change after posting this...

First, I was down to one "TTC Token" (transit ticket) and lost it. I then went to the bank machine to buy more... and it was down... I talked to the folks at the bank who said it would take about 30 minutes... so I started walking... that's when it started raining... and my right shoe fell apart... after walking towards my home for about 1/2 an hour, I tried a bank machine... still no luck. I walked home... 1 hour, 47 minutes... with one shoe in pieces.

When I got home, I was told one of our dwarf hamsters had passed away.

Black Cat

Yup... I shouldn't have posted my thoughts about the "good stuff coming" here...

Serves me right.

The Current Time in Toronto is...

One Old Green Bus

This blog was started in April of 2006... its original itent was really twofold. One was to be a "sounding board" for it's author... and the other... well...

At the time we started this, your humble author was unemployed and going through the usual crisis situations that arise from being jobless.

We (my wife, stepdaughter, and I,) used to "amuse" ourselves (read: Take our minds off our troubles) by more-or-less fantasizing as a family about what we'd do when things "turned around". Along this route, we discussed going to England on a vacation... and in that, alighted on "double-decker buses".

We kind of adopted one bus... Regent Low Height 3... as Our Bus... and we used to talk about what we'd do with "our bus" if we got it... from fixing it up to the trips we'd take on it.

Along the way, we became students of the history of this bus which HONESTLY seemd it was truly for us... trouble was, we couldn't afford the bus and weren't in a position to work towards the bus... so we had a couple of options...

Since the bus' position was sketchy (there's a chance she might be sold for scrap or "carved up" in other ways,) we could forget about her and pretend she didn't exist...

...or we could TRY... ask for help... put our dream of owning and saving "One Old Green Bus" into the universe and see what happens...

As of February, 2008, we knew that there was a perspective buyer for the bus (not us, obviously,) and made some difficult decisions... The first was that we wouldn't "beg" for help anymore and give the little money we received to a few different charities both online and off... and the second was simply hope that either we find a corporate sponsor (for an "ad" idea we have, click here to about read that,) or even a patron who see's the value in a silly family's dream...

But, if the bus is about to be purchased by someone who's planning on restoring it and they "get there first", we wish them well and are glad that at least Our One Old Green Bus is in a safe place being looked after.

For now, though, we are still hoping WE might be the ones to get our One Old Green Bus and see a family dream come true...

Regardless, this blog WILL continue... and we will still "go for" a bus of our own... but this blog will ALWAYS be dedicated to our own One Old Green Bus.
