Betcha didn't know this was originally about two buses... let me explain...

Oh no, don't worry... our sights and dreams have always rested with Regent Low Height 3... but there was (*gasp!*) another bus...

Lemme explain...

FNW 706

Above is a picture of a Leyland TD5 (FNW 706) built in 1937... making her possibly the oldest British Bus in North America in one piece...

It's been in my home province of Ontario, Canada since 1961 and was "decapitated" in 1967 to become an "open top". It's "paint scheme" is actually from when it was owned by a group of Shriners...

A while back, it was more-or-less seemingly abandoned in the impound yard in Elliot Lake and word was, the (current) owner was willing to hand over ownership for $1.00... plus "shipping costs" to the new perspective owners.

Now, even back then, our true sights were on RLH 3... but to save this bus from the scrapyard was a definite task I was willing to undertake.

I went nuts trying to contact this fellow to no avail... I then contacted the City of Elliot Lake to ask them if they could give me any updates or information...

It took them a couple of weeks, but to their benefit, they got back to me... They said it was being released back to the owner and I would need to communicate to him through his solicitor. They were kind enough to send me the information to contact the fellow, and I tried... but no answer back to my messages and e-mails.

FNW 706's fate is uncertain... and even more mysterious than before.

Sad thing is, I have ready access and help in that area of Ontario... and have a friend who's pretty much still asking me about "getting the bus" as he has a flat-bed truck to do the job... which he'd do gratis... and I have good storage space up there too.

So, I could have saved and looked after this old bus... but now it's missing in action.

Sue kind of adopted this one too when it seemed "within our grasp" calling it the "beach bus" and suggesting it as the "daytripper" as it's already been hacked-up and not truly completely "restorable" to it's former glory...

It is a beauty... and for us, attainable... but right now, it's not to be...

Oh, again, don't forget, RLH 3 was and still is our goal and dream... but "The Beach Bus" or FNW 706 would have been a great project too...

Who knows... maybe she still will be one day. :)

If you need a clearer idea, this is the equivelant to restoring and having a real thing for Ford Mustangs... and one day, finding out an old T-Bird was available for a buck and needed work... and if it wasn't saved, it would be sent to the scrappers... That sums up FNW 706 with us.

Should we go back to concentrating on and letting folks know how things are going with our bus? (Kinda back to the good ol' days?)
